Former Pres. Bush 'a little jealous' of Obama

Former Pres. Bush spoke about Obama Monday.
Former Pres. Bush spoke about Obama Monday.

(CNN) - There’s been plenty of second-guessing from Republican critics about Barack Obama's large-scale public events and speeches scheduled for his visit to Europe this week - but former President George H.W. Bush isn't one of them.

Asked today whether, as a former head of state who has a sensitivity about protocol, he has any thoughts about the appropriateness of Obama's planned events, the former President replied, "A little jealous, is all."

The former president, who says he's just returned from a visit to Germany's Brandenburg gate, added that Obama will "figure it out."

For more on the stagecraft of Obama's world tour, tune into Campbell Brown: Election Center tonight at 8 pm ET.

    Wow.

Bush Sr. gets it. His old school quality of honesty, which his son and his handlers lack, is refreshing.

Too bad the GOP won't draft him at the convention. I would still prefer Obama but would sleep soundly at night with Daddy Bush instead of McCain at the helm.

I dont know what he said that was so wrong. He's a little jealous of the greater attention Obama gets than he probably got during his own visit to Europe as president. He didnt say that he thinks Obama doesnt deserve it. Maybe he does maybe he doesnt. George H.W. is very good about keeping such opinions to himself.

I'm sure Clinton is a little jealous of the greater attention Obama got during their fight (media sexism charge aside).

Obama supporters, this was meant to be a compliment from a former president. Be civil and return the favor. I hate us insulting our former presidents whereas many of us can't do what they have done for this great country.

Perhaps with even more age has come wisdom for Bush the elder. He knows the better candidate when he sees and hears him.

HERE ARE JUST SOME OF THE REASONS JOHN McCAIN IS UNQUALIFIED TO BE PRESIDENT:

    1. JOHN McCAIN VOTED "FOR" THE IRAQ WAR, WHICH HAS BEEN ONE OF THE BIGGEST FOREIGN POLICY MISTAKES THE USA HAS EVER MADE.

    2. JOHN McCAIN FAILED TO RECOGNIZE THAT IT WAS THE WAR IN AFGHNAISTAN THAT WE SHOULD HAVE ALWAYS BEEN FOCUSED ON SINCE IT WAS the Taliban, and AlQueda IN AFGHANISTAN, WHO WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEATH OF 3000 PEOPLE ON 9/11.

    3. FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS JOHN McCAIN HAS THOUGHT THAT THINGS WERE GOING GREAT IN AFGHANISTAN, EVEN WHEN FACTS SHOWED THAT Al QUEDA, AND THE TALIBAN WERE GETTING STRONGER.

    4. JOHN McCAIN DOES NOT KNOW THAT CZECHOSLAVAKIA IS NO LONGER A COUNTRY, AND HAS NOT BEEN A COUNTRY FOR 10 YEARS.

    5. JOHN McCAIN THINKS THAT THE COUNTRY WHICH BORDERS PAKISTAN IS IRAQ, it is not! THE COUNTRY WHICH BORDERS PAKISTAN IS ACTUALLY AFGHANISTAN!

    6. JOHN MCCAIN WANTS TO BE A PRESIDENT IN THE 21ST CENTURY, BUT HE CANNOT USE A COMPUTER, AND HE CANNOT USE THE INTERNET.
HOW WILL McCAIN BE ABLE TO COMPREHEND, AND DEAL WITH ISSUES OF THE CYBERSPACE THREATS POSED BY COUNTRIES SUCH AS CHINA, AND OTHERS, COUNTRIES WHICH HACK INTO GOVERNMENT DATABASES ON A DAILY BASIS.

7.. JOHN McCAIN HAS ALREADY ADMITTED THAT HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THE ECONOMY.

    8. JOHN McCAIN CALLS HIMSELF "MR. FREE TRADE", JOHN McCAIN HAS SAID HE IS "THE BIGGEST FREE TRADER YOU WILL EVER SEE", EVEN THOUGH IT IS FREE TRADE, AND OUTSOURCING WHICH HAS RESULTED IN MILLIONS OF AMERICANS LOSING THEIR JOBS TO COUNTRIES LIKE MEXICO, CHINA, INDIA, AND OTHERS.

    9. AND WORST, AT A TIME WHEN WE ARE TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT NATIONS DO NOT GET THEIR HANDS ON NUCLEAR WEAPONS, JOHN McCAIN SAYS THAT AS PRESIDENT HE WILL KICK RUSSIA OUT OF THE G8, AND ACTIVELY ISOLATE CHINA AS WELL.
(SO IN ESSENCE JOHN McCAIN WANTS TO START A NEW COLD WAR WITH RUSSIA, AND CHINA, TWO OF THE RICHEST COUNTRIES ON THE PLANET, BOTH OF WHICH HAVE NUCLEAR WEAPONS!!)

JOHN MCCAIN IS A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN!! JOHN McCAIN IS NOT QUALIFIED TO BE PRESIDENT OF THIS COUNTRY!!!

Uh – guys – I read this as "When asked about Obama's planned events" he replied he was a little jealous – who wouldn't like to be a rock star and all the press that goes with it. I don't see how you are all taking that as him acknowledging Obama is fit to be president? You're a little overboard with the "I bet he's voting Obama" comments.

Had the article said "How do you feel about Obama's abilities" and Bush responded that he was jealous, that'd be a different matter...but I think that's how you all are reading it.

It is not that Obamas people are mean we are the ones that don't whine.McCain is always getting his facts wrong and I feel sorry for him. They are suppose to have a supplement to help the memory so maybe he could use a dose. But when it comes to the three o'clock in the morning we need someone who will remember what he was awakened for. There is no need to be jealous of Obama be happy.
