Former Pres. Bush 'a little jealous' of Obama

Former Pres. Bush spoke about Obama Monday.
Former Pres. Bush spoke about Obama Monday.

(CNN) - There’s been plenty of second-guessing from Republican critics about Barack Obama's large-scale public events and speeches scheduled for his visit to Europe this week - but former President George H.W. Bush isn't one of them.

Asked today whether, as a former head of state who has a sensitivity about protocol, he has any thoughts about the appropriateness of Obama's planned events, the former President replied, "A little jealous, is all."

The former president, who says he's just returned from a visit to Germany's Brandenburg gate, added that Obama will "figure it out."

For more on the stagecraft of Obama's world tour, tune into Campbell Brown: Election Center tonight at 8 pm ET.

Obama has the guts to admit there just may be some things to learn about other countries, cultures, and their politics if you go with a willingness to listen, and talk–and not rush in with "shock and awe" weaponry that may well show America's might, but obliterates its brains!
Thanks Obama for showing strength of character! Boy, does America need this now!

I am definitely sure that the former President Bush, former first lady Barbara Bush, first lady Laura Bush, the twins, Jenna and Barbara will be voting for Senator Barack Obama.

I keep trying to figure out why some people are in here calling Obama an idiot. Last time I checked he was a very well educated....articulate and intelligent man. That has nothing to do with being a presidential candidate. Calling somebody "stupid" or an "idiot" considering that type of educational background is a little much don't you think? Oh by the way...I haven't decided which way to vote yet. Waiting on some town halls and/or debates to actually happen along with some VP choices. So this is coming from somebody who is not an "Obamabot" or and "Obama Maniac". Just looking for some people to show some common sense in the the responses they post. Something with a little more depth than "he's and idiot or airhead".

I'm always amazed, yet not surprised, by how intolerant and hateful liberals are. Do you guys ever listen to yourself and the mean comments you spew about people?? You guys just think your the greatest and everyone else is dumb, etc.

It is hilarious how the Obama supporters run around screaming YES WE CAN! You got that right..YES YOU CAN LOSE ELECTIONS! You will get crushed in November and then whine for the next four years. Maybe in 2012 you will pick a candidate that A. Has no baggage (Clinton) and B. actually has some experience and stands a chance of winning (Obama).

  8. We're all f'd, not matter what

I'd be jealous too. Obama has no military experience, has accomplished nothing as a laywer and has not done anything as a senator worth noting. The guy's all hype.

I'll never understand everyone's infatuation with a guy that has accomplished absolutely nothing in his career.

For a trip that is supposed to be a "listening" session for Obama, there are many, many photo ops with heads of state. His poor Senate traveling companions are being totally left out of the spotlight. More and more I am thinking Obamania is Egomania on the part of the candidate.
And all of this is supposed to make Obama more presidential and "experienced" on the foreign policy front. I shudder every time I think of the total lack of leadership experience that Obama really has . . .

...I think he might he was jealous that he was getting to be in the middle of things which former President Bush isn't–NOT that he was jealous of the man. Your headlines are deceiving...

I always knew he was smarter than his son – Junior is a moron and so is McCain. The media is hyping this up because it's a huge acknowledge for GB Sr. to say he's jealous of Obama. Hooray!!!!

George W. will never be the man his father was. No one knows that more than his Dad – one of the most underrated presidents in our time.

I've always thought that Sr. Bush was much wiser than Jr. Bush. In the '91 Iraq War, he quickly completed the mission and..........LEFT!!! Got the heck out of there, etc, etc. If Jr. had shown such wisdom, we wouldn't be in the mess we are in now. The elder Bush always seemed to me to have a heart, and cared at least a little about the common man. A salute this afternoon to George H.W. Bush!!!!! Obama-'08

The Republicans should start over again and pick a realistic candidate at their convention. This is ridiculous--if this was a prize fight it would be stopped right now. And we need an amendment to the Constitution–no one over 55 can run for President. Afterall how many people do you see being made CEO of a company that are 72 years old?
