(CNN) - Barack Obama and John McCain are statistically tied in New Hampshire, the state known for its perennial political role that is again expected to be a key battleground in the race for the White House.
According to a new poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire, Obama holds a narrow 3 point lead over McCain, 46 percent to 43 percent, with 8 percent remaining undecided. That marks a clear departure from a similar poll conducted there in April that showed McCain with a 6 point lead among Granite State voters.
New Hampshire is only worth 4 electoral votes, but its famously independent voting electorate has repeatedly rendered the state a tossup at the presidential level: it voted for John Kerry by 1 percentage point in 2004 and for George Bush by 3 points in 2000.
The state has already played a vital role in the 2008 presidential process - John McCain's come-from-behind victory there is largely credited with salvaging the Arizona senator's White House hopes while Hillary Clinton's surprising win set the stage for the prolonged Democratic primary. Clinton and Obama later held their first public show of support in Unity, New Hampshire - a town where the two candidates exactly tied.
Watch: A look back at New Hampshire
The poll, conducted on July 11-20, surveyed 519 voters and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percentage points.

You PUMA folks are just too much. Do you think that we (the reasonable people) care that you are wasting your votes to make a stupid point. Do you think we care who you vote for because we don't. You PUMA people are so lacking in moral fiber that you leave it to the rest of us to pay your candidates debt. With supporters like you Hillary never had a chance. Take your votes where ever you. You do not matter and you do not love this country. I will continue to pay down Hillary's debts and vote for Obama.
Obama, we're no longer listening. After a while even my 13 yr old realized that you had no substance.
Obama was trailing by 6points in NH 2month ago and now leads McCain by 3points. Thats a 9 % switch from McCain to OBAMA and not a tie.
I hope Presidentail Elect Barack Obama continue to extend his lead over McCain. McCain is a discussing flip flopper he said he would not run a negative campaign but that is all he has done is attack Obama's plan everytime he makes a speech as though he is a god where as no one can be right but him. its one thing to make a point about his own plan but to come of as though only he can possibly be right is acting like a god. Even though the Iraqi government is saying that they would like the US to pull the troops out by 2010 in line with what Obama has said McCain camp will still twist and spin his words. They are very good at telling half trues to confuse the voters. Don't be confused by their polictics. Obama Jan 20 09.
Remember the exit polls? What people tell pollsters and what they decide when the curtain's closed in the voting booth are sometimes two different things.
Shady, put down the wine, sleep it off and then listen to John McCain. This flip flopper is the candidate who can't get three words right. When he is asked a hard question, he stutters and stammers and says he'll have to check his voting record. What a shame he is ruining his political reputation. By the way, less government in your life got you the last eight years.
1 – Obama is doing well because of his good judgement. You cannot repair a limping country with policies that all revolve around Hate.
2 – PUMAs are Republicans posing as bitter Democrats – trying to work the division angle. Do not waste your time......
There you go! NOTE TO Senator Obama and his misguided/bleeding heart supporters: There are certain things you can not buy in America. Sorry Senator, but the Presidency of the US is not for sale. If you want it, you are going to have to really earn it by being honest, respecting voters (particularly the women that count), being patriotic, gaining more political and overseas experience, etc., etc.
And, I really believe that may be a too tall order for you and your supporters.
John McCain just announced he will be going on a world tour and plans to visit Persia, Abyssinia, Ceylon, Mesopotamia, Southern Rhodesia, Northern Rhodesia, Siam, and Burma. He also hopes to meet with Nebuchadnezzar at some point, however has had no response on his official request yet.
John Mc................. another Bush.
Go Obama 2008....................
We need some change....................
Everyone is after Obama... Uncle John can say anything,
do anything. ...... No problem. He has experience..
But Obama can't yarn... Obama Can't smile... Obama can't taste
All is because he has no experience.... Give him a break.
OBAMA 08 Go Obama...
All I see on these blogs is REVERSE HATE. As soon as everyone drops their hyphenate – Americanism we can move forward.
If you love and respect this county as I, an AMERICAN INDIAN does, you would just be AMERICANS – PERIOD. AND BE PROUD OF THE FREEDOMS YOU ENJOY.
Obama campaigning in other countries makes no sense to me; other than to show us that he can talk to other countries....sorry folks but WE have to elect a president.
If he is loved so much over there perhaps that is where he should stay.
Like I have said before, we are NOT voting for a high school prome king, we are voting for PRESIDENT.
Obama is the only one who can shake things up in Washington.
And it sure needs a good shaking!
It won't happen with Washington entrenched McCain.
If McCain were leading in a poll by even 1%, my guess is that the MSM headline would be "McCain Leading Obama". But when Obama leads by a narrow margin, it's a "statistical tie".
THE PRICE OF GAS IS NOT HIGH ENOUGH.
BY THE END OF CHANEY-BUSH TERM IN MOST PLACES
IN THIS COUNTRY IT WILL BE AROUND $6.50. FOLLOWED
BY AN INCREASE OF EVERYTHING FROM MILK TO EGGS.
AMERICANS JUST DON'T FULLY GET IT. BUT THEY
WILL. THEY ELECTED BUSH & SOME WANT SOME MORE
OF WHAT WE HAVE. BUT I DON'T THINK MOST CAN AFFORD
ANY MORE OF IT. WE CAN PROUD TO BE WHITE,
AFRICAN-AMERICAN, LATINO, ASIAN & ALL IN BETWEEN,
BUT NONE OF US ARE PROUD TO BE BROKE.
ME THINKS THOU DOEST GIVE NEW HAMPSHIRE TOO MUCH IMPORTANCE...MICHIGAN,OHIO,PENNSYLVANIA,AND FLORIDA IS WHERE YOU SHOULD CONCENTRATE YOUR POLL STUDIES.
Obama puppet July 21st, 2008 7:37 pm ET
what Obama is capable of doing will soon be known.
He was sent to tour the world with the press, to gain some intellect.
What happens in America and to bitter Americans is always secondary to him. He doesnt care, so far as his race and color can bring him the presidency

it is because of people like this we find our Country in the worst shape it has been in since the great depression...
sick of the hate, here you go, this is not an Obama supporter
hispanics for mccain....rethinking immigration because of you, thanks
and i am not an Obama supporter, i just know that we can not afford a McCain administration.
NO MORE REPUBLICAN
I'm confused-does CNN prefer we address Obama as your majesty or Messiah?
Jim, Provo
Cnn prefers your majesty... Obama insists....THE MESSIAH ! get it right now ...
After eight years of Bush and going against a guy like McCain, Obama should be leading in all states by 20 percentage points. Just shows you how weak of a candidate he is. I'll laugh when the Dems manage to lose this one too.
Can you imagine that if the media was not so much in the tank for Obama , where he would be today in the polls. He is a serial flip flopper who will do or say amything for a vote, who Flipped on FISA, abortion. gun control, an undivided Jerusalam, church based institutions to deliver services to the poor, trade, the war and the social security tax. Rasmussen polls shows a media bias in favor of Obama . Why? You figure it out, no experience, imature, arrogant, has consorted with ciminals, radicals, preacher's that hate Amrerica, etc. Oh, he is a rock star, the first black America to reach this level in American politics. How did he get to this level, by the same media that helped him to try to destroy the Clinton campaign. Sad! Don"t let the media select your next President. PUMA has the answer, go mto their web site.
With all the help Obama is getting from the media, McCain's win in 2008 will be a bigger miracle than Bush 2004
Barack Hussien Obama is a joke. People dont be fooled again
American people are coming to their senses and seeing how little Obama really knows...And more American's are starting not to trust Obama because he hasn't keep a word he said he would do in the primaries.....I can't wait till Obama will finally take McCain on in a debate....Didn't Obama say anytime any where ?......But Obama went back on his word on that too didn't he.....
I don't believe in your polls.
Good...
