McCain camp hammers Obama press conference

,
CNN

Watch McCain slam Obama on Iraq.

(CNN) - After Barack Obama spoke out against the surge again Tuesday, John McCain's campaign responded by repeating athe charge that the Illinois senator favors “unconditional withdrawal.”

Earlier: Obama: Stability in hands of Iraqis

“By continuing his opposition to the surge strategy long after it has proven successful and by admitting that his plan for withdrawal places him at odds with General David Patraeus, Barack Obama has made clear that his goal remains unconditional withdrawal rather than securing the victory our troops have earned and the surge has made possible," McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said.

The McCain campaign is also conducting a conference call with Rep. Heather Wilson, Sen. Sam Brownback, and McCain adviser Randy Scheunemann to keep up the pressure on Obama.

Listen: McCain surrogates target Obama over his Iraq policy

UPDATE: McCain himself also took a swipe at Obama over his Iraq policy at a New Hampshire town hall Tuesday.

"You might recall that Senator Obama, my opponent, said the surge would not succeed, that he wanted us out. If he had his way, we'd been out last March. .. We would have had defeat," he said. "And my friends, that would have been a catastrophe for the United States of America. He was wrong then, he's wrong now and he still failed to acknowledge that the surge succeeded ... remarkable, remarkable. "

this is something that worries me about Obama. he was always against the war but once he secured the nomination we hear him saying he can't see a withdrawal until something like 2012. what the.....??? I thought he wanted them out of there quick. guess he's been bought and paid for by the military-industrial complex. no change coming....politics as usual.

I really wish, just once, that McGaffe could explain how he is going to WIN the war! That's all he says "I'm going to win". Well, McGaffe, please, please tell us how?

I'm so sick of McGaffe saying that Obama has never been to Iraq. He just said it in his little town hall meeting. Not true McGaffe. Obama has been to Iraq, in fact he was there two years ago. So sick of this guys lies.

McCain sounds desperate to get some sort of media coverage.

Pity he can't get any by actually having ideas...

"Of course Obama is getting twice the coverage than McCain.Obama is the media’s little darling, their rock star. Despite this man’s ties to racist anti-American people, flip-flopping on every issue, and refusing to debate McCain one-on-one. This man is going to be a disaster as President, and I am a life-long democrat! May God have mercy on us all.
The media is NOT going to dictate who I vote for, no matter how biased and in love they are with this empty suit."

Who cares if the surge worked? It should have worked, we added thousands of troops. The problem is JOHN, that we should not even be there in the first place, yet you continue to laud these minimal victories as though they are some sort of legitamate claim for your bid to claim the Presidency. You screwed up in the first place by supporting this ill-conceived war, on the wrong front, against the wrong enemy, in the wrong country, looking for weapons that you said were there to get us to go, and now you can't even get the government to work in 5 years. It's time to go Johnny, we need to leave and let Iraq settle itself now. Oh yea, ur an idiot.

OK McCain, now that your surge has suceeded, how do we win? What do we win? When do we leave? Why should we stay? How many more American lives do we need to lose before this war ends?

I'm a Republican....who will support Obama in the general election – there is really nothing wrong with McCain – other than the fact his policy ideas are dated...and don't reflect the US today...

  12. Obama is King

Why isn't the media reporting this for what it is, an immature grab for perceived power.

He is just a senator on a fact-finding mission, remember?

He has no authority to negotiate with anyone.

Obama is just trying to create the perception that he is the inevitable president... so that the votes will follow the expectation created by hims, his campaign and the media.

you got to love bho's efforts at playing president.....with his great judgement he shows just how weak of a president that he will make.......i would love to see him debate mccain in a live debate.....no prompters for bho to lean on......he will stammer all the way through like he did with hillary........he has ideas, everyone elses......and all you bho supporters think that he will end the war, think again. we will leave iraq only to move next door......as long as we need oil, we will be in the middle east with no end in sight.....this junior senator has some nerve acting as if he has won the oval office and the american people havent even voted yet.......making promises, that he may never keep.....again his great judgement....what a joke......

Mcain and his camp are pitiful. they are really reaching to make this trip to the Middle East and Europe look bad for Obama, it's to much good publicity for Obama and now they are really reaching for something, anything to make him look bad. What mccain and his camp needs to do is sit down and try to write another article, a good productive article for the new york times they are out of their league with this nonsense about the press conference.

I see the Obama-haters are out this morning. I don't understand why we can't debate the candidates without the personal attacks?

We were fooled by the GOP in 2000(even though W.'s margin of victory was tiny) and in 2004 (same thing small margin of victory)! We wont be fooled again. The RNC's attack machine is alive and attacking.

But here are a few things I would like answers to:

HOW WILL MCCAIN PAY OFF THE $10 TRILLION IN NATIONAL DEBT?

HOW WILL CONTINUING TO SPEND $1.38 BILLION A DAY IN IRAQ STRENGTHEN OUR NATION?

HOW WILL SPENDING $650 BILLION A YEAR IN IRAQ SECURE US? ESPECIALLY SINCE MOST OF THE $$$$$ IS BORROWED MONEY??????????????????????????????????????????

HOW WILL MCCAIN FOREIGN POLICY "BOMB........BOMB......BOMB IRAN" HELP US??????????????????????????????????????

HOW CAN ANYONE VOTE FOR A MAN WHO VOTED FOR THE ENRON LOOPHOLE WHICH HAS ALLOWED SPECULATORS TO DRIVE UP THE PRICE OF OIL????????????????????????????

WHY IS NO ONE TALKIG ABOUT MCCAIN'S RECORD? HE VOTED FOR THE BAN ON OFF-SHORE DRILLING, NOW WANTS TO DRILL EVERYWHERE???????????????????????????????????????

WHY IS NO ONE UPSET ABOUT HIS CLOSE FRIEND AND ECONOMIC ADVISER, PHIL GRAMM CALLING THE RECESSION "ALL IN OUR HEADS"? AND AMERICANS WHINERS?????????????

I love the arrogant McBush Neocons who love to beat the war drum. Anything Bush or his second in command McBush say is alright with them. It is only a pity their own children or family were/are not the ones dying for a stupid war.

They'll still not agree that Afghanistan is where the war is and should be fought while complaining about the bad economy. They prefer to spend a trillion bucks in an illegal war than helping their own family.

Ignorance is certainly bliss and for the Neocons, it's a blessing. Now they are saying Obama is the cause of the high gas price...hmmm...I wonder; was he in the meetings help by Dick Cheney and big oil?

Obama needs to be asked how many US casualties he is willing to accept in Afganinistan, how much collateral damage, how many years, how much violence? He is not a peace movement candidate anymore. The mountains of Afganistan have broken super powers and world powers in modern history and his strategy will pit our forces against history. I think we can be successful but how would an Obama administration react to calls from the left to get out when things get really ugly. The media needs to ask these questions.
