New McCain press pass coincides with Obama’s European swing.

(CNN) - Barack Obama's campaign correspondents went to Europe - but all the reporters covering John McCain got was a European press pass.

Campaign reporters trailing McCain across the United States as the press corps covering Obama gears up for the European leg of the presumptive Democratic nominee's journey still got a set of continental media credentials Tuesday night, courtesy of the Arizona senator's campaign.

Reporters arriving in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania with the campaign were handed press passes that feature a shot of the Statue of Liberty in front of an American flag, and the words: "McCain Press Corps/JV Squad/"Left Behind To Report in America."

The back features a picture of what appears to be a Frenchman - sporting a beret and a neck scarf - standing in front of a silhouette of the Eiffel Tower, staring at the camera as he pours a glass of wine. The legend below is the McCain campaign's take on a translation of the English on the front of the pass: "Le groupe de presse de McCain/L'equipe junior/"Laisse en arriere pour faire un rapport en Amerique."

FROM CNN’s Jack Cafferty:
“The world is waiting to love America again.” That is a quote from a recent editorial in a British newspaper, and many Europeans are hoping Barack Obama will provide them with just that chance. When Obama travels to Europe later this week, it’s expected he’ll be treated like a rock star – mobbed by cheering fans in Berlin, Paris and London.
A recent poll from England found 70% of Italians, 67% of Germans, 65% of the French and 49% of Britons would vote for Obama. Compare that to Republican John McCain, who gets support from 15% of Italians, 6% of Germans, 8% of the French and 14% in Britain.

I know that this is red meat for the Republicans, and someone will jump down my throat either for not having a "sense of humor" or being "politically correct" or not being adequately "America First".... or all of the above.... but this is offensive. Is that the McCain plan: to play off of negative ethnic stereotypes? Wow, what's next? A minstrel-dark black guy (or, how about a white guy in blackface!?) with exaggerated eyes and lips eating fried chicken and watermelon??

Sorry, no: there is no difference.

What happened to McCain's lofty promises of an honorable and positive campaign?

Those pinheads who pilloried the Europeans generally and the French in particular are the epitome of the "ugly American." Pride in one's own identity and country NEVER means having to denigrate others. Our duties and burdens of world leadership require that we treat others with respect. A lesson so badly lost on the Bushies. I am very sorry to see that McCain also does not understand.

And he claims to be so savvy in foreign affairs.

John McCain is not seizing the opportunity to use Obama's own words against himself. He has flipped-flopped over and over and where are the ads – a split-screen showing Obama vs. Obama? This would be the ideal time – while Obama is playing President overseas – McCain should be unmasking Obama's two-mouths.

I don't really understand the point of this. What does it mean? Is it satire? Is he trying to use sterotyping to insult the French? Is he insulting the journalists? Is he insulting the press in general? Or is he still insulting us by calling us whiners?
