Sen. Obama met with Jordan's King Abdullah Tuesday.
Sen. Obama met with Jordan's King Abdullah Tuesday.

(CNN) – Running for president, Obama is used to getting driven around — but perhaps not by royalty.

Following his meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah II, the Democratic presidential nominee got a lift to the airport from none other than the monarch himself, in a royal Mercedes.

The airport drive followed a meeting between the two men during which the king reportedly repeated his long-standing view that a Palestinian state is vital to ending the Arab-Israeli conflict.

McCain's suggestion would be "WAR". If he wins the election the entire region will be at war.

Kim, Dallas, TX   July 22nd, 2008 4:01 pm ET

It would seem that much of the world respects Obama. It's difficult to find anyone who doesn't support him outside of the US, and trust me, the world is keeping track of our election much more than some of our own population. Makes you wonder why our citizens are not supportive. Why do they back more of the same that created such distress not only in our country, but worldwide. Oh yeah, this is the same population that elected Bush twice.

Vote Nader   July 22nd, 2008 4:06 pm ET

Too bad King Abdullah II's view fell on deaf ears. Sen. Obama has already told us he stands firmly behind Israel and does not appear open to discussion on the matter.

There is a candidate that does stand with the Middle East viewpoint on Palestine/Isreal. His name is Ralph Nader.

Obama seems to have an incredible ability to connect with whomever he meets. perhaps that's why he advocates a direct style of "talking to your enemies" - because he has the ability to effectively communicate and conduct negotiations with both friends and enemies.

Ambrose Smith, Borrego Springs, California   July 22nd, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Obama is a man who can be respected by other world leaders. He may be able to quickly fix the tarnished reputation we have gotten over the last 8 years by "the gang that couldn't shoot straight".

It seems International diplomacy is well in hand and 7years late in grand style. I don't recall any republican or democrat ever getting this treatment from a country leader……EVER.

Maybe the foreign countries know something that we Americans need to learn. But I forgot, there's 28% of the American Public who still believe the current president is doing a good job, that Sen. McCain is the best candidate for the job of POTUS and the economy is just fine the way it is.

My friends, could this trip have tuned out any better for Senator Obama? Here’s to the remainder of it being as successful, and most importantly, as safe, as it has been so far. It's a joy to watch a statesman and a gentleman who by the way hasn’t said a single negative word in response to all the venom being spewed his way constantly since he left this country.

“The people of Iraq, and I've been there, are now leading normal lives." – John McCain July 22, 2008

What could POSSIBLY be “normal” about life in Iraq right now with 130,000 U.S. troops on the ground, daily car bombings, intermittent power supplies, a government held together by bailing wire and gum, and worsening ethnic segregation? Is John McCain that completely out of touch?

It's interesting to note that Sens. Obama and McCain are two distinctly different people. While world leaders know better than to outwardly endorse in this campagn, they chose other means to demonstrate an overwhelming preference - Mr. Obama. Not that we as nation should vote based on what the rest of the world want, in fact we shouldn't. However, what we should bare in mind is that its advantageous to have a leader whom the rest of the world greatly admires.

Perhaps the newsworthiness, though unstated in this brief blog-entry, comes from world leaders already treating Obama as though he has won the election. I pray the American electorate will see the writing on the wall, and turn out in droves to cast their ballot for OBAMA!!!

The GOP is loosing their freakin' mind right now with Obama and the great success he is having overseas.

Me thinks this trip will get even better for Obama.

TheTruthHurts   July 22nd, 2008 4:33 pm ET

I would really prefer some investigative reporting. Can someone shine a light on how CONgress is about to bury the country in debt, kill the value of the dollar and generally screw us financial before the new prez even takes the oath.

This has got to be the most bailouts I've ever seen for a Republican. Must be the electioneering goin' on.

Andre' for Obama   July 22nd, 2008 4:33 pm ET

America take a look. We have never had a person treated with as much respect as Obama. Being a President is being a Leader. To be an effective Leader you must have respect forst and clearly Obama has that. This will help in us talking to our enemies instead of sending in our troops because our President can't put a full sentence together. Enough with the old hard heads who have ran this country into the ground. Time for change

Go Obama!!!!

Sheila   July 22nd, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Matt H, the world cares, especially since America has lost in standings in other countries around the world. Bush has made it so that our allies left us hanging in Iraq and Aftganastan because Bush got us into a war that McCain supported based on a lie. We will need the other countries if another war pops up, we can't fight the terriost alone. So it does matter if other countries feel friends with America. Don't be stupid all your life, we need to look at things for what will happen down the road. McCain ratings are pitiful in other countries, they see him as another taste of Bush. when we need help from other countries, I hope you are willing to strap up and go fight along with McCain the war hero that has about as much sense as a rock.

Rob from Va   July 22nd, 2008 4:34 pm ET

I think this probably does not say a whole lot. We will probably never know what was said in the sedan ride to the airport. However, time will tell if Senator Obama's trip will actually gain any real traction in the states (I certainly hope so). So far, it looks like he is being well received and respected by the various governments he has visited. Just wait until the European visits. One thing is for sure, Senator Obama is certainly looking very Presidentail out there and no one who is honest with themselves can dispute that.

OBAMA 08′

I meant maternal grandfather.

Sharon Kitchen   July 22nd, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Very good…….Alot of people home and abroad see Obama for what he is…..the next Pres.

Steve   July 22nd, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Hmmm…..so unless the media is completely skewed here, I seem to remember that when McCain has gone to the Mideast, he's rarely had more than a minute or two with any of the leadership there. Obama seems to be getting some quality time with the people that don't care much to talk to McCain. What do you think this indicates? Obama is ready, willing, and able to talk to leaders about the issues they think are important, and try to work with them to find a solution. McCain is not. John, if you are attacking Obama these days so that he doesn't look quite so presidential, it's too late. He looks very much like a leader. You look very much like a follower. We don't need followers, thanks.

BG, TX   July 22nd, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Can someone tell me why ANYONE would consider voting for McCain, when the difference is so clear!

Naomi, Texas   July 22nd, 2008 4:37 pm ET

If nothing else… If Obama loses this election bid I think the man would still have a wondeful career writing books about all his experiences running for he White House… I sure hope he wins though :)

Reality Check   July 22nd, 2008 4:38 pm ET

Abdullah is a very intelligent, modernity-friendly and reasonable man. It's no surprise that he and Obama would hit it off.

Mc894/899 must be gnashing his teeth…if only he could remember why.

xddy4u   July 22nd, 2008 4:39 pm ET

Obama is just a good listener as well as a good conversationalist.
King Abdullah II just felt comfortable talking with Obama. Even if they didn't agree on all the issues they discussed, he didn't feel treatened.
Obama has a way of setting you at ease. From a lowly supporter all the way up to Your Highnest, he make you feel you are important to him and he enjoys your company. The man is just a God send.

NC Man   July 22nd, 2008 4:39 pm ET

Obama supporters need to surf the net and READ how the Arab world really feels about Obama. Check out Al Jazeera English and see the feedback.

Bottom line is they want US troops out of Iraqi and Afghan, if Obama don't obey them, they see him no different then Bush.

My question to Obama supports, if the troops are pulled out now "as you all state" what happens t the Iraqi people? How can you put a "timeline" on when the Iraqi people can stand on their own? Regardless if you are for the war or not how can you justified pulling the troops out without any conditions?

CNN needs to be boycotted for their spread of McCain's fear mongering. They are acting irresponsible by broadcasting this free fear mongering for the McCain camp. Almost everything from McCain are attacks posted and aired by CNN at no cost without any solutions. CNN even attacked Obama last night because the ARMY was taking pictures of Obama in Iraq. CNN was a Hillary supporter and now they are taking it out on Obama. Thank you CNN. I hope people stop watching your new spin zone reporting.

Kim-Dallas Tex–the world loves Obama because he continually demeans the USA and the government–have you never heard of sour grapes? It amazes me that the same people who hated Clinton now hate and spew vulgarities at McCain. They are not at all alike or have the same values–keep drinking the kool-aid, Obamabots. I just hope enough patriotic Americans come to their senses in November.

The Right Vote   July 22nd, 2008 4:44 pm ET

I count that as Obama's 3rd endorsement from a foreign leader so far on this trip. Slam Dunk, Obama!!!!

You, You, You!!!!

Jere, Salt Lake City   July 22nd, 2008 4:44 pm ET

Rather than being so impressed that King Abdullah II wants to be Obama's pal, I want to see a promise that our image will improve in the eyes of all our current allies.

I'm still pulling for Obama, but really, this is just food for Obama-fanboys (and fangirls)

roger dowdle, lockhart, Tx   July 22nd, 2008 4:44 pm ET

Never heard of that happening before- how many rulers have personally driven McCain to the airport during all his trips overseas? Looks like Obama already is positioned to do some good things in the mideast.! The better he can impress world leaders, the less chance there is of having to resort to war to solve problems. With all the great treatment Obama is getting, it is easy to see why McCain wanted to tag along on this tour.

DO YOU REALLY THINK THEY TRUST HIM AFTER ALL THE FLIP FLOPPING HE DOES. WHO IS HIS SPEECH WRITER ? SOME ONE FROM OPHRA , OR SHIPRO.

SURE IS NOT HAGEL , OR REED. COULD BE THE ABC NEWS DOCTRING IT ALL UP , FOR HIM WITH MAKE UP AN EDIT OUT THE FLIP'. AN FLOP'S.

REZKO WILL PICK HIM UP , WHEN HE RETURNS,AN TAKE HIM DIRECT TO WRIGHT, AN CELEBRATE HIS ALL EXPENSE TRIP.

NOOOOOO OBAMA , SEND HIM BACK IN FULL DRESSED UNIFORM. AN WATCH HIM RUN , WHICH WAY, FOR HE DON'T KNOW. THEN HE MUST TRY FLIP FLOPING ONCE AGAI.

Lisa D.   July 22nd, 2008 4:49 pm ET

Brendan says, wonder how the right-wing ill take this…many of them have secretly crossed over in their hearts and minds and are obamacans who will vote on "our" side for Obama. I think Obama can really be a tremendous help toward peace in this region and here at home. The problems the King faces have been there since I was a little girl and Carter was facing these and gasoline issues. WE WILL ALL MAKE SOME COMPRIMISES IN THIS NEW OBAMA VISION, but the poorest to the richest of us will live in a better America each day.

THE NEXT KING SOLOMON < KING OBAMA ,THE GREATEST OF ALL TIMES, ROCKS THE NATION, AND ALL EYES SHALL BEHOLD THIS …

US Army 4 Obama   July 22nd, 2008 4:49 pm ET

I've been all over the Middle East, courtesy of the US Army, and the local populace stance on the US government is usually the same; they think we are a populace of arrogant, and misguided followers of GWB. By the King of Jordan actually giving B.O. a ride to the Air Port will send a message to the country of Jordan, and surronding countries, that this is a man (B.O) to respect. Ally is not just a word, it has more meaning when trust, and respect is involved. I just wish the current administration had this effect on the Muslim world.

Tamara , Canada   July 22nd, 2008 4:50 pm ET

This really shows what airheads the Obama supporters are.
He gets a ride to the airport and you exclaim that this is another sign of how much the world loves him.
Take a reality check , not everybody sees Obama the way you see him.
Obama might have bamboozled a lot of Americans , but he won't get the same free ride in other countries , no pun intended.

DJ, LA, CA   July 22nd, 2008 4:51 pm ET

Yes…Obama GET ITS. Some of you McCain and Limbaugh fans will NEVER get it. The King of Jordon basically just summed it all up. Israel needs to reconcile the fact it invaded and took over their land from the Palestinians after WW2. The Israeli's have never made a serious effort to make peace or give them back some of their land.

All this is happening while his adversaries are at home whining, clutching at straws, and bankrupt of ideas on how to steal the spotlight. With every breath he takes and move he makes, Senator Obama is proving that there is hope for not only for America but for those who look to it from afar.

not an obamabot, thank GOD   July 22nd, 2008 4:57 pm ET

why are we even having the general election, coranate the new god king so he can rule for the next 8-10 yrs and get it over with. the media with their tongues so firmly entrenched in the messiahs backside is getting older than mcamnesty. looking forward to not keeping any of my money, and the joining of the north american union. maybe the god king can be on the "amero."

Dayahka   July 22nd, 2008 4:57 pm ET

We've known for decades that a Palestinian state is needed, but it's the Israelis who are intransigent–and the Americans who have no backbone to challenge the Israelis. Yes, King Abdullah, we know, we know, but the American sheeple haven't a clue.

I am now supporting Obama, and he better choose Hillary as his VP..However, CNN..If Obama farts in the Middle East is this going to be "Breaking News". I support the man and I am getting sick of the media love fest. The excuse that Obama is new, so this is news doesn't wash. You guys need to stop before you make him look like only a media darling.

Peggy - TX   July 22nd, 2008 5:03 pm ET

Obama is looking good. Every snap shot I have seen of him this past week makes me proud to have been a supporter from the time he gave that speach where he alone stood up and challanged President Bush on the Iraq war.

dasebre   July 22nd, 2008 5:03 pm ET

"go and rule the Americans" (world) a video clip seen in Obama's trip to Kenya some years back. Now is coming to fruition, I think is a good thing. God bless America, God bless the world.

BBB   July 22nd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

When a true leader arises, the nations are at peace, but when you hear comotions, wars, and rumors of wars, there is a warmonger on the throne. Obama's trip goes to show how hungry and thirsty this world is for a a slice of peace. Obama has the vision for that peace. That is why everyone is bearing witness of that, including the kings.

Proud American   July 22nd, 2008 5:05 pm ET

It is the continuation of Bush's policy that many world leaders don't want, and certainly Obama is showing that America can change to a better place.

If McCain visits a place, they might take him back to the airport on a scooter, or just let him drive himself there.

I can't wait for the first debate between Obama and McCain. Obama is sharp, man this guy IS sharp, McCain ,on the other hand, still talks about "we're fighting for our freedome in Iraq" Huh?!! HELLOOOW, it's $4.00 a galone here, beep beep wake up McCain. I think Obama is going to wipe him like he was his daddy.

The Left is Dumb   July 22nd, 2008 5:12 pm ET

What's more impressive? Getting a ride to the airport or being involved in delicate national security matters? Remember when McCain was in Columbia the same time the hostages were rescued? McCain was briefed by the Columbian government BEFORE it happened. Do you really think Obama would have been? Do you really think Obama knows where Columbia is on a map? I bet he would end up at Five Points, just down from The University of South Carolina . . .

And this is news?? How many times must every minute thing this man does be pushed on us? What did they discuss? Why take this trip now after so many years of problems? Ok I forgot that OB has only been in his seat for a few years but still never paid any attention until now? And this is not a photo op/free media ride on our tax money? Please spare me.. How much can be talked about and "solved" in a few hours? From reading the majority of these posts I would think that now the world loves America again all because of this man. How foolish some people are.. I'm waiting to find out how many times and when OB has a bowel movement!! Now that is news…
