A plane carrying Ron Paul and six other congressmen made an emergency landing Tuesday.

(CNN)— A plane carrying Texas Rep. Ron Paul and six other members of Congress was forced to make an emergency landing Tuesday due to mechanical issues.

According to the Federal Avaiation Administration (FAA), Continental Airlines flight 458, a Boeing 737 en route to Washington, DC from Houston made a rapid decent in New Orleans when the pilot reported pressurization problems.

Reps. Ted Poe, Nick Lampson, and Henry Cuellar, Solomon P. Ortiz, John Carter, and Ciro Rodriguez were among those aboard the flight. The FAA says the plane had a safe landing in New Orleans with no injuries.

Update: Trevor Kincaid, a spokesman for Rep. Nick Lampson, tells CNN the congressmen are being rebooked on two different flights from New Orleans to Washington, D.C.

Kincaid said Lampson told him, "there was a minor technical failure with the pressure" and there was "a slow gradual descent, no nosedive." Lampson told him in a phone conversation that, "some people didn't realize there was a problem until the gas masks came down." Lampson said there was no panic on the plane and praised Continental Airlines for their handling of the situation.

This must be McPain's piece of work. :-)
Ron is definitely better than McCain
OBAMA (2008 -16)

Mr. Binky   July 22nd, 2008 10:58 pm ET

Why is it that hardly ever, if at all, are there any planes with neo-cons that have to land for an emergency, or crash land? It seems the GOP is "protected" pretty well. It makes you wonder why the engine failure, or other problems, with all the Dems' who've been killed in plane crashes (Paul Wellstone, JFK Jr., Mickey Leland, etc)… and no GOP that I can recall have ever been in any type of plane incident, much less injured or killed…. Very odd coincidence. Ron Paul is a Republican, but he's running against McCain… Interesting. What else besides choosing a VP has Mr. McSame's camp been organizing?

Ron Paul 2008! That's the real hero of this election campaign, not McCain and Obama. If only Ron Paul had fair media coverage and equal time at the debates!

I will VOTE for RON PAUL anyway.

We, the people, are being lied to on a DAILY BASIS.

GOD BLESS RON PAUL.

Glad to hear all are safe too. Something happended to Obama's plane too! Forget about the centralized commie/fascie federal government, run for Governor of Texas and make it a sanctuary for Americans!! Do it Ron Paul, we'll help! Then after we start the shangrila, others will follow suit and recoup America for the Americans!! God bless all of us.

I support Mr. Obama, but I'm glad to hear Ron Paul is safe. He's a decent guy that just wants what he feels is best for the country, just not necessarily what is in fact best for the country.

Most news on this said Ted Poe (Tyler Congressman), yet CNN says Ron Paul in the title of the article.

we have come a long way, but where was this coverage 12 months ago.

Well, better late than never.

khovalyg   July 22nd, 2008 8:17 pm ET

Glad they're safe. - As to the media not covering Paul, it blacklisted the major peace candidates (Paul and Kucinich) plus 10+ other political parties. The corporatist-fascist media ALLOWED us to hear Obama and McCain. As the peace candidates were censored, we only get to vote for war agenda candidates. WHY THINK INSIDE THE RIGGED ELECTION BOX ANY MORE? - Again, glad lhat Ron Paul wasn't Wellstoned. I disagree with his 'unregulated capitalism' notion though.

kenneth bernstein   July 22nd, 2008 8:15 pm ET

We love you Barack Obama!!!!!!!!

TheTruthHurts   July 22nd, 2008 8:12 pm ET

I was thinking of supporting his event near the Republican convention. I have much more respect for libertarians than republicans. At least their beliefs are internally consistent. At least they don't believe in corporate welfare like the republicans (and most democrats for that matter).

They're just a bit too Darwinistic for me.

Anyone besides me think that there are more forces at work than just faulty mechanical parts or bad weather? And why do these "emergency landings" always seem to happen during an election year?

California Gold   July 22nd, 2008 7:36 pm ET

No panic in the plane? I've been in a plane with pressurization problems and the oxygen masks deploy. I never saw so many flight attendants triple jumping to grab oxygen masks in my life. The look of dismay and fear on every persons face, including mine, was very real. No panic? I doubt it. Although I must say my experience ended up being a social flight. Free alcohol for everyone! Oh, it was also a Continental flight.

Marcello   July 22nd, 2008 7:33 pm ET

Thank God Ron Paul is safe. The revolution will live on long after he is gone, but it won't be the same without him.

TheTruthHurts   July 22nd, 2008 6:22 pm ET

I could never vote for him, but these nutcases running the country's finances need to listen to him. He sees what's happening to the dollar, to oil, to our competitiveness and it's UGLY.

I"m voting for Barack despite his support of many government interventions in the economy I do not support. Why? I know his heart is in the right place and that he is a pragmatist and not an ideolog. Frankly, McCain is a pragmatist too, except he's gotten twisted up with the Republicans who are turning him into an ideolog.

Obama says uncomfortable things to Democrats in a way McCain is no longer willing to do with Republicans. That shows a lack of leadership on McCain's part.

That is why I respect Paul who tells it as he sees it regardless of the audience. On some issues he's a nutcase, but at least he believes himself.

Gene   July 22nd, 2008 6:22 pm ET
