Obama calls latest Palestinian attack 'intolerable'

Obama held a press conference in Israel Tuesday.

Obama held a press conference in Israel Tuesday.

(CNN) - Sen. Barack Obama on Wednesday said the terror in Sderot is “intolerable,” and praised the residents for their courage and resilience.

“I’m here to say that - as an American and as a friend of Israel - that we stand with the people of Sderot and with all the people of Israel,” Obama said.

Sderot is a southern Israeli town that has come under rocket attack from Palestinian militants in Gaza. Obama earlier toured a home that was damaged in one of the attacks.

“Israelis should not have to live endangered in their homes and schools. I’m hopeful that the recent understanding to end the attacks will provide some relief, but America must always stand up for Israel’s right to defend itself against those who threaten its people,” he said.

Obama said he was “deeply committed” to helping Israelis achieve a lasting peace with Palestinians who are prepared to accept the state of Israel, renounce terrorism and abide by agreements.

“We must support Palestinian leaders who share this vision,” Obama said, calling attention to President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayad, both of whom he met with earlier.

Obama was joined in Sderot by Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.

Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, also toured the war-torn city when he visited the region in March.

I'm not worried, the Israelis can and will defend themselves; against "any enemies, of the state". It's America's welfare and her safety; from her enemies, that concerns me. We aren't a country of "whiners", but some of us have become "pacifiers". What's wrong with defending yourselves from being attacked; before you are actually attacked, again? If that makes me a "warmonger", so be it. When the " attackers" states that their goal is "to destroy you, your mire existence, and your way of life". What you don't believe "them"? You think they are lying? As for me and my house, I will take them at "their words"................

Oh come on Obama, you have always sided with the Palestinians. You tell them to keep up the good work when they protest etc. etc. Your mentor Rev Wright told you for 20 years how the Israeli's are scum and you must stick up for the palestinian cause.

The way Israel treats the Palestinians is intolerable and I wish our representatives would start to say so.

Obama will continue to support Israel but he will not promote subjugation and unfair treatment. The Palestinians will have decide if they will continue to tolerate elements within their society that want no peace.

Thank God for Obama. I hope the people of this country get their heads out of their stinky behinds and vote him into office so we can have an intelligent leader for a change! Maybe then we can regain our standing with the rest of the world.

It's disgusting how every politician must pander to Israel and the Israeli lobby to even get into American Politics. Just disgusting. Real change there huh? Is it OK for the IDF to shot bound prisoners? Is it OK to quarrantine people, bulldoze houses, cut off electricity to millions of OCCUPIED people?

Obama in aligned with John Hagee on these issues apparently.

Will this political situation ever change? Not until a viable 3rd party is created in my opionion because the 2-party system is played like a fiddle by Corportists in DC.

    CNN is biased

How many Palestinians were killed over the same period of time?

President Carter is the only brave politician in this country to tell the truth...
CNN, Be fair once and tell the whole story.
Unless Obama is careful, he might gain some Jewish American votes, but loose most Arab/ Muslim American vote.

"If Barack Obama had had his way, the Sheiks who started the Awakening would have been murdered at the hands of al Qaeda, and US forces would have already left Iraq in defeat," he added.

A better statement is if Barack Obama had his way 4200 Americans would be alive today. Also 4 trillion dollars would have benn saved, gas prices would have been lower. Further al Qaeda would not have been in Iraq and maybe just maybe OBL would have been killed or captured.

    Hamas attack–not Palistinian.
I believe that the Palestinians still are in a revolution. In our revolution we attacked the British until we gained our independence. Shout the people of Palestine not receive the same support for their efforts we received from Germany and France while gaining our own independence?

When Obama returns I hope he will be able to explain why this Ireal – Palestinian war has gone on for so long. I've read alot about it, but there is very little said about why this war can't be settled after all of this time fighting it. I would think the people in both these countries are tired of it by now. Maybe all of the countries in the free world need to come together to get this conflict resolved.

What? Obama isn't calling on the good people of Sderot to immeadiatley surrender in the face of their enemy's aggression? What a departure. Oh yeah, he always has tomorrow to change his mind before addressing the next crowd. What an empty suit this man is!

Obama needs to be in the states. We have no say so in those country's, it's like he is speaking for all of us in the states, that's how we got in the war in Iraq, being in peoples business when we shouldn't be [ SOUNDS LIKE GEORGE BUSH TO ME].I sure don't want him talking for me. We have enough problems over here, and he needs to remember, there's 18 million voters that didn't vote for him. Let's get the debates started, so people can see for themselfs whose the best man to lead the country.
