Obama spoke at the National Council of La Raza Annual Meeting earlier this month.

(CNN) — Barack Obama’s campaign released a new Spanish-language radio ad Wednesday that will hit the air in battleground states with large Latino voting blocs, after mistakenly sending out an earlier script of the spot that included a reference to the Illinois senator's immigrant father.

"Some people have power and connections. But most of us have to make our own way through life,” says the announcer in “Nuestro Propio Camino.”

“This is true even for the man who could become the next President … Barack Obama. He grew up without a father — raised by his mother with the support of his grandparents. Through student loans and hard work, he graduated from college.

Listen: Obama camp details new strategy

“Obama never forgot his roots,” continues the announcer, adding that "despite the political pressure, Obama has stood with us for immigration reform and spoke out for our veterans. It’s time we had a President who understands we all deserve a chance to make our own way."

An earlier version of the script released earlier Wednesday also pointed out that “His father was an immigrant. His mother from a humble, middle class family.” In that version, the announcer added that “Obama never pulled people down as he made his way up.”

The Obama campaign said the change had not been an attempt to downplay the presumptive Democratic nominee's immigrant father. “We don’t just wipe Barack’s father, who meant so much to him, out of the campaign. An ad is an ad,” said Deputy Campaign Manager Steve Hildebrand, after being asked about the change on a conference call with reporters, adding that “there is no strategy to eliminate him by any stretch.”

A clear majority of Hispanic voters backed Hillary Clinton over Obama during the primary season, but recent polls suggest he now holds a significant lead over John McCain among this key demographic. The new ad will air in Florida, Colorado, Nevada, and New Mexico – states where the Hispanic vote could prove decisive this November.

People should recognize that Obama's campaign is being respectful to Latino's by speaking to them in their own language. This is not pandering it is called Communication. Puma and other Clinton supporters are Idiots…

I am an immigrant and will vote for Obama because mcsame and republicans are scary, anti-immigrant and think that everybody who has an accent is here illegally. Not surprisingly, majority of immigrants and first time American voters like myself will vote for Obama, - a candidate we can indentify with, and who was not brought up on a silver spoon laced with beer..

If Latinos believe that McCain will support them because he lives in Arizona, they will be sadly mistaken.

Whatever pro-Latino sentiment McCain held has been swept away as he has tried to move to the right to appease Rush, Hannity, and Ann Coulter.

And, if he wins, don't expect anything from the Republicans until 6 months before the next election.

As a Latino voter, one of many I know, that most of us are now backing Sen. Obama. In my family we were split between Hillary & Obama.

We KNOW that McCain is pandering to Latinos, trying his best not to be too excited about the fence being built! And we KNOW, that the majority of the Republican base calls "illegals" immigrants that are not documented. We KNOW whose side McCain is on, though sometimes we all wonder.

McCain can not talk out of both sides of his mouth, he is either a moderate and a maverick or he is a conservative.

He can't wink at Latinos, and wink at the far-right-extremist whom he needs to support him.

He is playing both sides, hope someone notices!

THe Hispanic community will understand and recognize that Senator Obama is an average politician that makes customized promises of change everywhere he goes in order to get the votes of that community.

His actions proved that he does not care about achieving or meeting his goals as the asbestos project he was involved in in Chicago shows.

Obama is moving to the center now and will sacrifice his positions with the ledt wing of the Democratic Party to appeal to the center and some right wing voters.

Is this the change we want: It is not. We do not want this arrogant person in the white house.

It interests me how Americans find fault with change when we live in a society that's constantly changing, at head of most other societies.
If they felt the add didn't hit the most relevant points and corrected it, why should that be an issue? How many of you out there don't say things and change your mind later when conditions change.

How many of you haven't said I love you to someone and then later said, it's time to move on when things didn't go well?

Why do you keep criticising the politicians when the change or modify things that they said before? I am particularly referring to the recent bashing of Obama that he's now shifting from his 16month Iraq timetable…if situations don't allow for what he had planned earlier and he's willing to accommondate for it, why should that be perceived negatively?

The Latino population is growing steadfastly and each eligible vote will make a difference. According to several reports, circa 2050, 29% of the population will be Hispanic. T

Those who advocate learning Spanish or another foreign language are absolutely right. The face of the nation is changing and the necessity for interaction with a multi-lingual world goes without saying.

On the local level, a very recent press release from NYC's Mayor Bloomberg's office states the following: "Language Access Executive Order Requires City Agencies to Improve Customer Service by Providing Translation and Interpretation Services for All New Yorkers.
Agencies to Provide Services in Top Six Languages Spoken in New York including Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Korean, Italian, and French Creole".

These CNN stories and blogs provide an excellent means where ordinary citizens can state erroneous information, and give opinions.
This story is about radio ads about Barack Obama is an excellent example of this. Error Number One: Oft repeated but completely erroneous is the fact that he was raised by a single mom, with some help from his grandparents. Truth: After Obama's father left when he was 2 years old, his mother took him to Indonesia where she married again. Obama lived with her and his stepfather until he was 10 years old. He then went to live with his grandparents in Hawaii, where he stayed until he graduated from high school and entered college. Error Number Two: It has been said that Obama worked his way through college. Truth: This was refuted last week when it was learned that he only had one or two menial jobs during this time.
I'm always grateful when others point out errors about the two candidates, Obama and McCain.

Raised by his "Adopted Mother"… There is no DNA proof… Father/him left East Africa 1963-4, headed East across the Indian Ocean, and They finished up in theEast Indies.. What happened then is the Mystery..

ProudToBeDemocrat   July 23rd, 2008 1:12 pm ET

Latino for Obama we are all in it.

Claudia   July 23rd, 2008 1:10 pm ET

Hispanics take a close look at your brothers and sisters in Arizona, the state in which John McCain is Senator, and see how they have been hurded up like cattle, jailed and bused back across the border. Check it out for yourself and then make an informed decision before voting for McCain.

Crush Rush   July 23rd, 2008 1:04 pm ET

Thanks to Obama, even law breakers will get AMNESTY and criminals in the White House will get a pardon. What a nice Law and Order guy.I wont vote for John McCain and this guy is close to losing my vote too.

ali   July 23rd, 2008 1:04 pm ET

no news here

Ojamas   July 23rd, 2008 1:02 pm ET

Obama supporters can wear the latest in political fashion chic: pajamas that feature the Obama 'O' logo.

They're called … Ojamas. There is no McCain equivalent.

JD   July 23rd, 2008 1:02 pm ET

I understand that Mr. Obama is ashamed that I don't speak Spanish. Well, I guess I can live with that.

An American Whiner   July 23rd, 2008 12:59 pm ET

And the thing that is so powerful about this ad….

EVERY WORD OF IT IS TRUE.

Abby   July 23rd, 2008 12:56 pm ET

que bueno!

Pedro   July 23rd, 2008 12:52 pm ET

Too many promises and overcommitted. Obama should get real and understand the culture (e.g., Mexican) and hardships that many of Hispanics face. All those emblems and half pronounced Spanish words makes me vomit. He is a rock-stra want-a-be President. He is fake and transparent.

Sweetie   July 23rd, 2008 12:52 pm ET

This is one Hispanic that will NEVER vote for Obama!

And I haven't talked with anyone who plans on voting for him!

What a Joke-he does not connect with us at all!

McCain 08

Onedayatatime   July 23rd, 2008 12:51 pm ET

Come on CNN…are you telling me that this story was posted at 11:00 and almost 2 hours later ther haven't been any comments? Yet, a story posted 45 min. ago about Novak running into a bicycle rider has already received 20 comments. What's going on?

Brian   July 23rd, 2008 12:51 pm ET

Yeah, let's do let people make their own way rather than having the government dictate their lives. Vote McCain!

Rick FL   July 23rd, 2008 12:49 pm ET

Si se puede!
Vamonos '08 con Obama.

Praetorian, Fort Myers   July 23rd, 2008 12:49 pm ET

Is he running for President of Mexico?

Ken   July 23rd, 2008 12:48 pm ET

This is a joke! Where do we live, Mexico or the United States of America?

Our language here is English and NOT SPANISH! Give me a break. All that Obama is doing is pandering for the Latino vote. WE DON"T need a inexperience, no skills, no talent or anything else that makes him qualified to be our next President.

I would like to see that at the convention, the delegates would see Obama for what he really is, LACKING EVERYTHING THAT IS NEEDED TO BE OUR NEXT PRESIDENT, and decide to vote for Hillary Clinton, who is qualified to be our next President.

If Obama or the Democrats want to win in November, then they need to make sure that Hillary Clinton is ON THE TICKET with Obama,

Hillary Clinton/Obama 2008

Ricky - Hispanic/Educated and voting for Obama   July 23rd, 2008 12:47 pm ET

Good for you Obama. Remember your roots. I immigrated to Michigan from Puerto Rico when I was a little boy.

Obama is what the U.S.A. needs. He represents the country.

Obama '08.

James   July 23rd, 2008 12:46 pm ET

The truth is a powerful thing. There is more to unite us than there is to divide us.

Freida, NYC   July 23rd, 2008 12:45 pm ET

It will not make a difference among the Spanish or the Hispanic community. I am 1/2 Spaniard and 1/2 American, and I can tell you none of my friends or family members feel comfortable voting for BHO. I understand that having a good level of confidence is important for success, however; Obama is acting way too "cocky." I may consider voting for him only if Hillary is on the ticket.

Hillary 2008.

Francisco in NY   July 23rd, 2008 12:44 pm ET

I fail to see how WhamBama will support the spanish community. His first and foremost priority will be to his black constituents. He only wants our votes. Wake up people - do not support him !!!

Terri   July 23rd, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Good for you Obama

That is all most of us want, but some people just do not want others to be equal or succeed in life.

Latinos for Obama   July 23rd, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Senor Obama el apoyo del mundo Latino esta contigo!

Kris from AZ   July 23rd, 2008 12:41 pm ET

Educated and what do you know..not born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Obama 2008!
