McCain, who made a stop at a Pennsylvania supermarket Wednesday, will host political allies at his Arizona ranch this weekend.

(CNN) - Aides to John McCain tell CNN that the presumptive Republican nominee will host a group of political allies and fundraisers from around the country this weekend at his cabin outside Sedona, Arizona.

As many as 75 people are expected to attend a barbeque at McCain's home Saturday.

The attendees will also get meetings and briefings from staff, including campaign manager Rick Davis, Saturday morning at a nearby Sedona resort where most will stay.

Watch: McCain goes grocery shopping with a Pennsylvania family

McCain often uses his creek-side cabin to hold intimate political events in a relaxed setting. He told reporters he hosted there this spring that making ribs on his large grill is one of his only means of relaxation.

A few months ago he hosted a group that included several would-be running mates and their wives. It was at that event that McCain says he and his wife Cindy really got to know, and like, his former rival Mitt Romney and his wife Ann.

English Teacher – you are correct. I chosse the wrong form of the word discriminate. Chalk it up to trying to type as fast as you can and submit it before they close the comments!! :)

To some of the other replies, I realize that everyone gets old, but not everyone gets black. That's not the point. We should be treating all of our leaders with some respect. I don't agree with Obama on every issue but I respect who he is and the fact that he's doing what he thinks is best for our country. Nothing wrong with that. The same goes for McCain. Yes he's in his early 70's, that's really not that old everyone. I think he's got the best interests for our country at heart and is ready to do the job of President. Will he run for re-election in 2012 maybe/maybe not, but he will definately be able to serve the first 4 years. Critique his decisions or policies, but leave him as a man alone.

Please, I'll watch paint dry, anything but more photos of John McSame campaigning. We get it John, go home.

We'll post your photos in places that we think you would go, if you were a regular guy and not a millionaire Senator who has been in Congress for over 20 years, with eight houses, and a private plane. Yeah, we get it–you can go home and rest now. Send the help out to buy your groceries, as you always do.

Please Note:

MCCAIN: ‘I RECEIVED THE HIGHEST AWARD FROM LITERALLY EVERY VETERANS ORGANIZATION IN AMERICA"

Hold on there big boy.....

The recognition McCain has received from veterans groups is not "high awards" but FAILING GRADES:

IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN VETERANS OF AMERICA GAVE MCCAIN A GRADE OF D FOR HIS RECORD OF VOTING AGAINST VETERANS. (By contrast, Obama got a B+.)

DISABLED VETERANS OF AMERICA NOTED MCCAIN’S DISMAL 20 PERCENT VOTING RECORD ON VETERANS’ ISSUES. (Obama had an 80 percent.)

IN A LIST OF "KEY VOTES," VIETNAM VETERANS OF AMERICA (VVA) NOTES MCCAIN "VOTED AGAINST US" 15 TIMES AND "VOTED FOR US" ONLY 8. (Obama voted for VVA 12 times, and against only once.)

Vietnam POW Activists Called McCain ‘Songbird’ and ‘Manchurian Candidate’ We aren’t talking about a bunch of republican paid and funded operatives, we’re talking about all those who had to suffer at the hands of the Cong while McCain received special treatment.
Sequentially, integrity is what I look for in someone running for President. Self-aggrandizement without end is a characteristic flaw that cannot be overlook in anyone running for that same position.

Some Vet's might have forgotten, I haven't.

Joy, MI   July 24th, 2008 1:25 pm ET

Let's give McCain a break. He really didn't think he had to work this hard. He thought he could just trot out the old photos of his military service and that would be it. Grocery store shopping and all that other stuff is for the birds, expecially when he has corporate backers, and his wife to finance his campaign.

He's old, and he's tired and he wants Barack to come home and stop being a superstar. WHAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

He's not complaining now, no not complaining.

Obama experience will get US ahead again in the world.
He is the man for the job; the best one. you get experience by doing a job with this say neither McCain or Obama have been president before so none of them have that experience. This nonsense that Obama has no experience need to stop because Mccain has none as well. United States of America for Barack Obama

There is nothing wrong with John McCain doing what hs is doing for his campaign. It is obvious Ms Fat Wallet Oprah isn't going to throw any change in McCains direction. Maybe McCain isn't the only one with a dream have you thought of that? Let the man do what he has to do. As far as the grocery store scene, I think it's great that he is looking at things closer to home that is affecting families finacial today.

McCain's campaign is absolutely clueless with regard to prioritizing, campaigning, and conveying a persuasive message. They had ample opportunity this week to discuss McCain's economic agenda (or lack thereof) while Obama's on a world tour. Rather than using this time wisely, they decided to attack the press for unequal coverage, use an unthoughtful attack against Obama about the holocaust, distort Obama's acknowledgements of the Surge, poorly handle the new definition of the "Surge", mix up the sequence of events in Iraq with regard to the Surge, cancel their press conference, and ride around in a golf cart with Bush, Sr.

Veterans for Mccain you can not compare McCain's age to Obama being an African-American thats apples to oranges, McCain is 71 thats old past retirement age, the government tells people that they can stop working at 65, therefore even the US government by now would have told McCain he was too old to do the job and should retire !
Obama was never a thug he's an educated black man.. gangsta rap isn't even a term used anymore by the way
and this article doesn't talk about the issues either so anyone leaving a comment not talking about the issues isn't too far off..

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Commodities Futures Trading Commission charged global trading fund Optiver Holding BV with NYMEX oil market manipulation that allegedly took place in March 2007.

The Republicans are currently debating over a speculation bill and saying speculation and manipulation have nothing to do with high prices. Oh really? Breaking news, these speculators are beginning to get caught and charged for market manipulation. But the Republicans in the Senate continue to say it's not happening. Ok So McSame was just whining about his press coverage and now he goes home?

Maybe McSame doesn't get covrage because he is as boaring as dirt or because McSame can't talk for two minutes about his own plans.

I don't want to hear him talk about his personal war record = I don't care anymore.

I don't want to hear him making false, Rove like, statements just to get thee statement out.

I don't want to hear his half truths like drilling for oil. Why would big Oil overproduce and lower their own profits?

I do say give McSame the same coverage, I want to see endless week long coverage of McSame's mess ups. I want to see weeks of reporting based on false rumors, I want to see the media not let McCain slide on his daily mistakes like they have been doing for months. Report each time he messes up and run it for a week or two each time.

I want to hear the hard questions that McSame should have to answer.

Sen. McCain as President you may need to enter talks with Iran. How would you enter talks with comments on record like, "Bomb bomb Iran," and smoking being one way to kill them?

Sen. McCain why did you vote against the Enron loophole that is allowing the speculation and is responsible for a large amount of the current gas prices?

Sen. McCain wouldn't ending the loopholes have a quick, direct reaction in lowering the price of oil?

Sen. McCain why did you only send parts of your ecno plan to the 300 that you say supported it then change and add to the plan?

Why is this and other questions not being asked?

Praetorian, Fort Myers   July 24th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

I know it's not a catered affair–like Harvard elitist can afford to appreciate.

But 75 people at a back yard BBQ–and he'll be doing most of the cooking–is significant to many of us Amerigo's.

And You keep talking about debates, give me a break. McCain can't even read a simple telepromter, what makes you think he can win a debate? Sorry Dana, when I think about a cabin I am thinking a maximum occupancy of 6 or 7 people, not 75! Cabins don't have the grilling capacity to entertain 75 people unless McCain will be cooking continuously 24-hours a day for two days.

Can you just see McCain's face on a US coin someday?

tedious898   July 24th, 2008 11:06 am ET

Cheesey – just straight out sad.

I really feel bad for McCain. To be honest, I felt really bad for Barack because everyone was attacking him – The WH, McCain, The repubs (that could care less about McCain), The Press – yeah I said it....Rev. Wright, Jesse Jackson, New York Mag, Pumas

I mean how does one defend against all this? Oh yeah...the American people are on Barack's side.

Make it happen fella!

Janey/Michigan   July 24th, 2008 11:05 am ET

Such jealousy from Obama supporters when McCain gets a little coverage! Methinks they are sick of saying nice things on all those Obama blogs and were just waiting for a nice blog about JM. I have news for you Obamabots–McCain is waiting to make news when he pulverizes Obama in debates. (that is, if BO has the courage to debate him) PS–no teleprompters allowed in town hall debates.

Greg, NY   July 24th, 2008 11:04 am ET

Veteran for McCain,

One thing that I have to mention here. Everyone gets old, not everyone is black.

So by calling Obama a 'thug' and saying that he listens to 'gangsta rap' would certainly be racist.

Making fun of McCain's age could be considered 'ageist' I suppose, but like I said. Everyone gets old.

Dan from Kitchener   July 24th, 2008 11:03 am ET

Unfortunately any Republicans wanting to run in elections have to keep a safe distance from McCain to keep their images intact.

An acceptable candidate can't keep making so many ridiculous mistakes and expect support from anyone with a modicum of intelligence.

Republicans need to select a more presentable candidate at their convention before the GOP is swept into oblivion. Can anyone say Ron Paul?

Tony C.   July 24th, 2008 11:01 am ET

YAWN! I hope someone brings some DVD's.

James Hussein, SC   July 24th, 2008 11:01 am ET

In other words, McSurge will invite a bunch of very, very rich people to his private cabin to sell-off another piece of himself. Maybe we can send him a couple of million to have him change his views about Iraq. We know he would change. We just don't know how much this change will cost.

CNN: let's see if you would print this.

Independent-woman-4-Obama   July 24th, 2008 11:00 am ET

TO "CALLING ON INDEPENDENTS, TX" :

YES, we hear you! We were once Republicans, after 2001 when Bush showed us who he really was, we switched to Independents! We are disgusted with the GOP and its fear-and-hate-mongering stance!

We are thinking people, we actually DO listen carefully to both sides, even (hold our noses) and watch Fox every now and then (sickening).

Here's why we are NOT voting for McCain:

HE DOES NOT 'GET' THE ECONOMY; HIS PAL AND ADVISER IS PHIL 'ENRON LOOPHOLE- AMERICANS-ARE-WHINERS' GRAMM

HIS FOREIGN POLICY STATEMENT IS A LITTLE SONG "BOMB......BOMB..........BOMB IRAN" IN OTHER WORDS MORE OF THE SAME-BUSH-CHENEY-FAILURES!

Add to this the $10 TRILLION dollars in national debt, most of which we owe to China, the Saudis and Dubai!

And the McCain record that is in lock-step with Bush. My fear is though, that there are people who do not do research, who do not think, who are too narrow minded to look past the color of a man's skin. Not thinking for yourself is dangerous, that's what the communist did, they got their people to not think for themselves. We, Americans, need to really THINK, read, talk to one another, discern.

God willing we will change the course our nation is on!

karen-phoenix   July 24th, 2008 11:00 am ET

Note: His "cabin" is a multimillion dollar high end ranch in Sadona! The most expensive area in AZ!!! And he has eight other houses!!!
How can this man relate to average Americans! Shopping yesterday? First time in his life! He has "servants" that do that! Get real! The man has also NOT done a thing for us in AZ except mess up our school systems! I do believe Obama is up by 3 points in AZ.

Dear American Citizens and the Press

As a concerned citizen, I consider it is my duty to bring following message to you all.

"We the citizens of the United States of America have the ultimate responsibility to elect the " Right Candidate" to lead our nation, out of our huge present and future internal and external challenges as well as opportunities. This is to prevent depression and isolation in-spite of being the only superpower in the world morally, democratically, economically, and militarily.

We need to consider the "critical qualities and characteristics" of our presumptive presidential nominees at the time we vote.

In my personal and professional opinion the critical considerations are as under:

1. Calm, cool, and collected " temper " [ Presidential Temperament ].
2. Sound and sustained "Judgment and Caliber".
3. "Thought-fullness and togetherness" of purpose and positions.
4. Minimum "ex-poser and exploitation" around "Washington and Washington insiders".
5. Renewed " Vigor and Vision " for our Greatgrand Nation.
6. Foreign policy based on " American Values, Virtuous, Vastness".

Stay informed, stay involved, and stay engaged. Do not allow some partisan media, pundits, pollsters, and perpetual political opinion makers effect your vote in the wrong direction.

Don't be effected and duped by "Psychological Terrorism" that is directed at common American people without their full consent and awareness.

Long live U.S.A and its diverse but democratic people.

Listening to John McBush trying to tear Obama down all this week, his gaffes and all of his pandering, I can not believe that 41% of those polled will vote for him.He has shown how much like Bush he is every time he opens his mouth he sticks his foot in it. I can not wait for the debates.Obama 08

This is so pathic! 75 people at his CABIN????

Obama is on the world stage and so far doing great and McSame will hold a get together at his cabin????

Go Obama!

JfromNC   July 24th, 2008 10:43 am ET

McCain has gone from maveric to a sad, petty, jealous man. Would a real "man" attack his opponent while the opponent is overseas? Obama has more integrity in his little finger that McCain has in his whole body. The press has tried repeatedly all week to get Obama to respond to McCain, but he won't bite.

Only sissies attack when they know the opponent won't attack back.

JA Cook   July 24th, 2008 10:42 am ET

How does he define "cabin".

Is it in a thousand words like his new definition of "surge" and his similarly lengthy explanation of how he mangled Chzeckoslovakia?

Phil, FL   July 24th, 2008 10:41 am ET

Okay – maybe it is definition of victory that you all keep cutting.

Phil, FL   July 24th, 2008 10:40 am ET

Aha – you didn't cut mega-mansion or columbia – is it past due taxes on his property in california?

Diing in Washington   July 24th, 2008 10:40 am ET

He absolutely needs to relax as his camp is completely off the message. Like economic, foreign policy is not Senator McCain's strong suit. That's leaves him with whinning, whinning, and more whinning. He needs to relax and chill out; otherwise, people will begin to call him McWhinner!

ProudToBeDemocrat   July 24th, 2008 10:40 am ET

I feel sorry for this old man, he knows he is not going to win, but he can not stop in the middle of the game that is a defeat, what he fails to see he is going to be defeated in November.

Phil, FL   July 24th, 2008 10:39 am ET

What word am I using in my post that it is cut immediately?

Mega-mansion? Columbia?

33/W/M in Ohio   July 24th, 2008 10:39 am ET

I don't know why people are attacking McCain for hosting a BBQ. If he wants to have a cookout and small gathering of people to discuss politics with, who cares? This is obviously not serious campaigning and vote pandering, as it with "political allies" and "fundraisers" who obviously already support him. And who doesn't like to stuff their face with ribs, brats, chicken, burgers, etc. and talk politics whille sucking down a few cold ones? I don't even understand how this is news. Come on CNN, I expect more...

I am supporting Obama this year, so please don't think I'm white-knighting for McCain. People are just getting baited into these flame wars. Be better than that, people!

This is just a front for McCain to rest. This 71 year old man can't run with the big boys and this is only more proof the Republicans need to find a candidate that is mentally and physically fit. If you notice in his town hall meetings he tries to lean on those flimsey campaign signs. Poor guy.

Kathy in Michigan   July 24th, 2008 10:34 am ET

WOW!!!! I am sure that CNN is going to have 15 trucks there to cover it minute by minute LIVE!!!

He complains about Sen Obama not going to IRaq and he goes then he complains! Sen Obama makes the trip interesting and exciting and gets coverage and interest, and Sen McShame complains that no one wants to cover him and Poppy Bush at a private country club in New Hampshire.

Senator Obama goes to Isreal where McSame is praying for a gaffe and says he supports Genocide, and he is photographed in the Cheese Isle looking confused.

The McBush campaign is just laughable. It is unbelievable that this is a general election campaign effort. I am amazed. Actually, I would like to be hired to do one of those jobs, obviously, you do not need any qualifications or previous success to work in the campaign.

This has been a huge contrast in terms of expertise in running a campaign. Is this also a contrast in how the country would be run????

Hey I visited the Berlin Wall when it was dangerous and the press didn't cover my trip.

The press is sick covering a US Senator who has spent less than 123 work days in the senate and will be given a pension that kings could covet.

Amazing the amount of sick people (mentally) Obama doesn't deserve the honor, hasn't accomplished anything to win the honor and has no experience except talking. I like Denzel better and he speaks better.

Isn't it funny that most of Ossama's supporters are uneducated and illiterate. But that is sad as well. Someone should teach them the difference between lose and loose. And the "60 year old white woman" should add descriptive phrase behind her name as "white trash."

Vote Hillary she is the true leader. Experience, conjones and dependablilty

Calling on Independents, TX   July 24th, 2008 10:30 am ET

Hello Independents:
I am calling each and everyone of you to do the right thing in this election, because I am also an Independent. I can understand why a republican would vote for McCain. I am having a very tough time understanding someone who is a true Independent will have any questions after having seen and heard both candidates. The difference is so obvious that you don't need to spend more than 5 minutes listening to McCain that he should not get your vote. I would have still votted for Obama even if the the candidates had switched their Parties. Come on lets do it!
OBAMA 08 to bring this country back on track!

Veteran for McCain   July 24th, 2008 10:28 am ET

Nice to hear the story about McCain. Not necessarily news worthy, but I nice story nonetheless. Ok a few issues with those leaving comments so far:

1. yankeegirl15 – your comments about old age are discriminating.
2. larry buchas – your comments about old age are discriminating.
3. 3 other comments were just putting him down rather than talking about any issues.
4. 1 comment stated "who cares" – valid point.
5. Be honest – actually brought up a fair point about campaign financing.

So during the next article about Obama, if I started characterizing Obama as a thug, who listens to gangsta rap, sippin on gin & juice, with his mind on his money and his money on his mind, what would you think? YOU WOULD SAY THAT I'M A RACIST, RIGHT? I would think that too because those comments are totally uncalled for. So what are we supposed to think about all of the age comments? Get the point? Probably not, but that's alright. If you disagree with McCain then voice your opinions or don't reply at all.

Mike   July 24th, 2008 10:28 am ET

great ...keep him out of the public eye for a day to give us a rest! if McCain is more comfortable doing ribs maybe he should check hinself into an old vets hospital and cook for his peers. our country doesn't need a gourmet chief,we need a leader that can solve the worlds crisis without having to sit in a rocking chair to rest before he can think what to do. do you think he trying to see which VP candidate looks the best in his side-by-side rockers? anyone with any sence would not want to be his VP. he would have to do all the work and make all the decisions and more than anything else have to clean up all the gaffes made by this old fool!
stay in the woods McCain...thats a good place for you!!

"McCain often uses his creek-side cabin to hold intimate political events in a relaxed setting. He told reporters he hosted there this spring that making ribs on his large grill is one of his only means of relaxation."

McWeekender takes too much time off.. makes a series of major gaffes all week and rubs his money in the face of Americans by having optional homes to sleep in while over a million americans are homeless due to medical or foreclosures reasons.

This man is sooooooo out of touch with real America... Malibu Cindy spends 750,000 a month on credit cards..says you need a plane to get around Arizona and stole money from her charity to support her drug addiction.

I just am shock & awed people in America would even think of voting for ANOTHER BUSH REPILCA...

McCain = Bush....= recession growth in America...

Brian   July 24th, 2008 10:21 am ET

Can anyone explain to me why so many individuals feel the need to include blatant name-calling of McCain in their comments? It seems that any story that mentions McCain (be it in a negative, neutral, or the rarely seen positive light) elicits childish comments from dozens of posters. Name calling is not substantive and I highly doubt your candidate would think highly of it. If you admire Obama for being intelligent and articulate, argue thing the way he would. I don't expect to hear Obama utter "McSame", "McPain", or any of the other stunningly creative names that I have read in comments on CNN articles.

John   July 24th, 2008 10:19 am ET

What a contrast between Obama and McCain, Obama in helicopters over Iraq, seated witht he Afghani president, at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, etc. Meanwhile, McCain is at the Dairy section of the local Kwik E Mart.

What you don't see is that McCain's political team have taken over one of those free sample tables to use as their campaign headquarters. Any port in a storm!

Walt   July 24th, 2008 10:18 am ET

Maybe they can discuss what a great idea his off-shore oil drilling enthusiasm is in light of the 400,000 gallons of fuel oil spilled into the Mississippi River yesterday. The old man's energy policy is dangerous and solves nothing. Enjoy your ribs, cronies.

The famous "Cheese Aisle Lies" event. McCain fabricates a series of lies to try to explain what and when the "Surge" was, in order to smokescreen his earlier interview with CBS where he apparently didn't have a clue about the "Surge" history or that he was having a senility attack.

It was interesting that someone in CBS edited the original interview in such as way as to seemingly cover up McCain's confused state.

In the past, I was sarcastic about McCain, now I honestly believe the man has a cognitive problem that's chronic and progressive.

Is Dana Bash worried about losing her special seat on McCain's Bribery Express? I hear that McCain has reserved his good seats for reporters who earn them, by reporting good things about him. And Dana Bash is playing well to that tune for weeks now. Maybe it's about time CNN rotates her. With her covering McCain, CNN is looking more like FoxNoise - the propaganda arm of the Republican Party.

MMN-Milwaukee WI   July 24th, 2008 10:11 am ET

Open letter to McCain:

McCain for the umpteenth time! The troop surge is NOT and will NEVER be a strategy. It’s only a tactical move and you can’t seem to get beyond that which is why you sound more and more like Bush and you keep wondering why no one seems to care about what you’re saying.

McCain your Foreign Policy is beginning to look like a bundle of frustration and if not then you seem to have straitjacketed yourself in an ideology focused more on enemies (real and imagined) than on opportunities. More or less this is a Bush move. "It is impossible to ignore the many striking parallels between you and the so-called neocons and if you have not become one you sure have surrounded yourself with many of them.

McCain you continue to look un-presidential. In Rochester, NH you started whining saying; “you’d rather lose a political campaign than lose a war," and that "Obama would rather lose a war in order to win a political campaign." That is the work of your surrogates and aides to sling that kind of mud aka personal attacks. It seems your temper has blinded you from making simple prudent decisions.

McCain in less than a week, Obama has squandered your greatest claim to the presidency — your overseas expertise. Why you ask? Because he makes you appear brittle and inflexible, slow to adapt to changes on the ground, slow to grasp the full implications not only of the improving situation in Iraq but also of the worsening situation in Afghanistan and especially Pakistan. I am not an ageist but I’ll say this behavior raises questions about your age. This sudden collapse of your Middle East policy is a stunning event, although your joke about bomb-bomb-bombing Iran raised questions from the start and by the way it is also very un-presidential.

McCain is all for big business, not for the little man....and you people think Obama supporters are drinking the kool aid....well i would rather drink Okool aid than asphyxiate on the McArsenic McCain has been dolling out
