Poll: 'Sharp reversal' for Obama with Latino voters

A new poll out Thursday shows strong support for Sen. Barack Obama among Latinos.
A new poll out Thursday shows strong support for Sen. Barack Obama among Latinos.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - A new poll released Thursday shows overwhelming support from Latinos for Sen. Barack Obama over Sen. John McCain.

Obama's approval rating with registered Latino voters, the nationwide Pew Hispanic Center poll found, is at 66 percent versus 23 percent favoring McCain.

Obama's "strong showing in this survey represents a sharp reversal in his fortunes from the primaries, when Obama lost the Latino vote to Hillary Clinton by a margin of nearly 2-to-1," according to Pew Hispanic Center associate director Mark Hugo Lopez.

Obama's favorability among Latinos is slightly up from a Gallup Poll summary of surveys taken in May, which showed Obama with 62 percent of Latino voters nationwide, compared with 29 percent for McCain.

"He now appears to be even more popular than Hillary Clinton among Latinos," Lopez said.

It's amazing how stupid some people can be. Nightengale, reality is the exact opposite of what you just said. During the primary, as it is now, the more education you have the more likely you are to support Obama. The mouth-breathing knuckle draggers supported Hillary and are supporting McCain now. Given your utter inability to see reality for what it is, you must be one of them.

Osama....uh, Obama is a friend to Islamic terrorists...vote for him and open the door to more trouble from the Middle East....
This is AMERICA!! Why are we even comfortable with a guy named BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA running for president?? Which one of those names does not have some link to Islam or middle eastern values? There is power in a name.....WAKE UP AMERICA!!!

Your hate is evident in your post. To disparage people like me and others as ignorant is interesting since, in your rant, you spelled Osama WRONG. If you are going to insult someone on their brains, at least take the time to spell check your words before hitting the submit button.

Now, for the rest of you haters. If any of you actually paid attention to McCain's speech to the Latino community recently, you would have seen how he practically ran from the stage when the questions were not going his way. I knew immediately after watching this that he was going to lose the Latino vote.

McCain has been the Latinos "friend" for over 27 years. Where has that got us? This is not about allegiance, vote Barack Obama.

Hey I visited the Berlin Wall when it was dangerous and the press didn't cover my trip.

The press is sick covering a US Senator who has spent less than 123 work days in the senate and will be given a pension that kings could covet.

Amazing the amount of sick people (mentally) Obama doesn't deserve the honor, hasn't accomplished anything to win the honor and has no experience except talking. I like Denzel better and he speaks better.

Isn't it funny that most of Ossama's supporters are uneducated and illiterate. But that is sad as well. Someone should teach them the difference between lose and loose. And the "60 year old white woman" should add descriptive phrase behind her name as "white trash."

Vote Hillary she is the true leader. Experience, conjones and dependablilty

Your rant shows your obvious jealousy and inability to cope with inevitability where Obama is concerned. Unlike you and your obvious lack of intelligence, most of us with sense knows that McStain and his multimillion dollar Barbie granny trophy don't understand what it's like to live as we do everyday and all you can do is go on about Hillary (as if it were all about her and not about our country's economy and other issues). Why don't you go post your insults and rants on her website and pay off her debt while you're at it. Make something productive of yourself instead of DEstructive. You call Obama supporters uneducated and illiterate but the fact that you call Obama "Ossama" shows your lack of education and the fact that you are a typical bitter fool who can't see their way in the dark because you refuse to turn on the flashlight you hold in your hand.

the remark about Sen. Clinton was un-called for, she ran a great campaign and gave it everything she had (literally), so the article is troublesom for that reason. Also Latino voters have not been courted by the left until the clintons, they open the doors for Sen. obama to seal the deal, it looks like he might do just that. it is a good sign for the dems, but I don't think it should be a gloating point over Sen. Clinton. besides, the republicans have yet to step up their attacks and their own courting, so don't think this is going to a landslide victory just yet. Good Luck Sen. Obama, but be villiant there is plenty of time left in this race.

I want a president who listens. We all have grievances, and everybody can't get everything they want, when they want.

McCain doesn't listen. He's like a little general who keeps marching up a hill. Let him march up alone, vote for Barack Obama.

What are the Republicans going to do in the future when soon all minorities combined will be more than the white majority? Maybe they will turn into more of a white nationalist party or maybe they already have. bye bye republicans.

I happen to be educated and voting for Barack Obama. Comments posted on a political blog that resort to name-calling are truly the sign of ignorance. Instead of having something of substance to say, you have to call people "stupid".

This poll doesn't surprise me one bit. Having worked closely with the Mexican work force – I know them as people that get informed when it comes to elections. They actually take an interest, listen to candidates, and vote on issues important to their family's interest – something, sadly, too many white American voters lack.

I would put money that the % of Latinos registered to vote and actually casting a vote is the highest of any group. Glad to see Obama as their choice.

After George Bush and that Administration, I think the Latinos just like everyone else has opened their eyes and refused to be SUCKERED again!!!

Way to Go everyone. Let's take our country back from the control of the GOP. We do not need more Grid Lock in Washington. That is not healthy for our country. Grid Lock is not best, it is a stand still that will cause us to be years behind other countries that are well developed.
