What the heck is this talk? We have had far more egregious problems with previous presidents. George Bush as never been involved in any scandal. Just because he took action to protect our nation when we were attacked on 9/11, which if you remember the whole nation supported at the time, we want to impeach him? My goodness, maybe it will take another terrorist attack on American soil for this fickle nation to come to its senses.

Bush hasn't committed any impeachable crimes! Those who rattle their sabers would just have to use some imaginary articles of impeachment thought up by the media.

The reason our country is so great is because of the framework it was built on – namely the Constitution of The United States. This is long overdue. And not only do we need to do that, we need to collectively push our state governments to try to impose an amendment on the U.S. Constitution setting term limits on federal Congressmen. We retain these same idiots for decade after decade after decade that don't accomplish a thing. I thought the Democratic leadership promised the American people during the 2006 elections that they would not do this act. Again, they fail to keep their promises. I guess we should, also, impeach Clinton again for the faulty intelligence and reduction of the CIA (human intelligence) that lead to the faulty war. Did he produce anyone who actually lost their constitutional rights at the hearing? Let me answer that question, NO! How about really working and provide the American people solutions to the Social Security problem, Medicare, high taxes on our corporations, and other issues. I would just as soon Bush not be impeached given that I live in Greeneville, TN, the home of Andrew Johnson. Up until President Clinton was impeached, Johnson was the only other President to ever face impeachment proceedings. I sure don't want to see our little town's claim to fame smeared by placing Johnson (a far finer President than the one we have now) in the same league as W.

What if Bush were to face an International Tribunal (like the Nuremberg trials)? This adminstration disregards laws and accords that they see as inconvenient.

This will at least be a symbolic effort, even if it ends up with the president being pardoned like Clinton. I don't understand how we can impeach a president for lying about having a sexual affair and not impeach a president for lying about starting a war.

It is too late to be meaningful, other than just symbolism. However, it's always been clear for at least the past few years that if the Democrats really wanted to impeach Bush they could very possibly get the votes to do it, certainly in the House. While Bush hasn't quite trampled the Constitution like Nixon did, he has indeed crossed the line or gotten close enough to it to make an impeachment something to at least consider.

But the Democrats would never risk the backfire in an election year for something that was just pure show at this point.

If it hadn't been for the treason of Bill Clinton and Madeline Albright, George Bush would not have had to take the totally legitimate steps he had to take with Iraq. There shoud be public treason trials followed by public executions for Bill and Madeline after their conviction.

We need a system where the president can be removed from office much more easily than impeachment. His actions don't have to be a criminal to be incompetent and dangerous. Democracies that actually work (ie ones outside the USA), can remove a leader with a simple vote of no-confidence at any time – we need that too.

Forget about Bush – we have to overhaul the whole electoral system completely, to make sure it can't happen again. The system we have now is the laughing stock of the whole democratic world .

I doubt that is writer, Joe Von Kanel, even watched the hearing. During the 6 hours Kucinich spoke only twice, at the beginning and end, and not long. Bruce Fein was very eloquent as were many of the other witnesses who were asked very specific questions as to what recourse Congress has to check the power of an executive who overreaches his or her authority.

It was a serious inquiry, not, as the author says "purely stagecraft".

I listened/watched the entire thing... the Republicans are the ones playing partisan politics. The President himself has admitted they waterboarded at least 3 people on national television. Most Countries consider waterboarding a form of torture. The US tried Japanese soldiers for it as a warcrime after WWII.

Just the fact Cheney refuses to disclose whom he met with 30 + times to set national energy policy and being so secretive, sneaky is grounds for impeachment alone.

Bush and Cheney run the White House as if they are above the law and Constitution and forget we the taxpayers have the right to know who they meet with to form policy at OUR expense.

It's odd to note how Republicans are "scoffing" at the thought of impeaching George Bush, when they were all set to organize a neck tie party and skewer Bill Clinton for sexual indiscretions, which had no affect on anyone other than perhaps his wife. The laundry list of items leveled against Bush, however, have a huge impact on every citizen of this country.

it's a shame that this can't at least be discussed in the committee with the respect that it deserves. i'm an independent liberal, who has maybe once or twice agreed with the bush administration. i'm not in favor of impeachment, but i would at least like both houses of congress to have an unbiased discussion of the transgressions against the constitution that may or may not have been committed by this president.
the attempt would be to determine how best to protect the constitution from any future presidents who may see the bush administration as a blue print.
i would also love to see someone in the media ask both presidential candidates how they would restore the constitution to pre bush white house.

When Nancy Pelosi said upon becoming the speaker, that impeachment was "off the table", I was very disappointed. Bush needs to be not only impeached but tried in a court of law for his crimes againt this country, its citizens and the world. Republicans can scoff all they want, but the impeachable offenses and criminal acts are almost too numerous to count.

Whether you agree or disagree that Bush should be impeached or not, there are much bigger issues that these yahoos in Washington should be concerned with. Impeaching Bush wont lower food or gas prices. Impeaching Bush wont help the housing market or fix the bank crisis. Impeaching Bush wont reign in CEO salaries. Bush should have been impeached long ago. The conduct for which President Clinton was impeached (but not convicted) pales in comparison to the crimes against humanity committed by the Bush/Cheney Administration. However, there is still hope that one day these criminals will be brought to justice. And, there is no doubt that the Creator will punish them like no human could ever do.
