British leader tells Obama: Hit the beach

Sen. Barack Obama listens to British Tory Leader David Cameron Saturday in London.
Sen. Barack Obama listens to British Tory Leader David Cameron Saturday in London.

LONDON (CNN) – It is no secret that Sen. Barack Obama’s whirlwind tour of the Middle East and Europe has left him, and everyone staffing and covering him, absolutely exhausted.

When asked how he was feeling the other day, he told reporters aboard his campaign plane that he was feeling a bit “sleepy.”

Earlier today, while meeting with Conservative Party Leader David Cameron, the pool camera microphone picked up some light banter between the two men about Obama’s current state of fatigue.

Cameron told the candidate, "You should be on the beach...you need a break. Well you need to be able to keep your head together."

Obama told Cameron he would try to take a week of in August. And he said he got advice from a Clinton White House veteran on how to handle the demands on his time.

Obama said, "Somebody who had worked in the White House who-not Clinton himself- but somebody who had been close to the process, said that should we be successful that actually the most important thing you need to do is to have big chunks of time during the day when all you're doing is thinking and the biggest mistake that a lot of these folks make is just feeling as if you have to be..."

Cameron interjected, "these guys just chalk your diary up."

Obama agreed, "right, exactly, in 15 minute increments"

Cameron told him, "We call it the dentist waiting room. You have to scrap that because you've got to have time."

Obama said not taking that break is when "you start making mistakes or you lose the big picture."

  3. obama is unfit to be president of this country

The English are so nice. But, they would never have a black elected as their leader. And they would never turn their country over to obama. This is not a good thing for America either. Obama has already proven he will do and say ANYTHING to get elected. I don't trust him as far as I can throw him.

This exhausting tour that Obama was on has just shown how capable and intelligent he is under all circumstances. McCain would have been "asleep at the wheel" Congratulations Obama.

It's jet lag Senator Obama, beyond that, you have been going non-stop on the campaign trail without a break. We are all anxiously awaiting your return. McCain has made this campaign all about the SURGE SURGE SURGE, more SURGE, and did I mention the SURGE....SURGE SURGE SURGE SURGE SURGE. Yes, Iraq is important, but I think the top issue is the ECONOMY. I know it is with me! I think all McCain knows about (well sort of) is the SURGE....

If you want to go to one of the most beautiful beaches in the US, IMO, the world, Senator, go to Destin, FL....Before someone decides they should drill there! You won't regret it!

Calling CNN a suck up. But they posted McCain's attacks all week. Is that what we want a President that has NO humility, respect, nor honor for his opponent . There should have been no attacks while Obama was abroad, But Mccain couldn't even stay on message because it was attack... SURGE, SURGE, SURGE, SURGE.. Just a realistic question? Are we at war with Iraq? or are we occupying Iraq? the Iraq military has been disarmed for years but we call this a war.. Tribal conflicts and AlQaida stirring the pot does not add up to a war. Those are facts. 150,000 plus troops. Billions of American dollars gone for what? We should have left when they captured Saddam and went to get Bin Laden. McCain has missed managed this entire week as well as his campaign. He does not deserve to be President even if he is a Hero. Judgment counts totally McCain. He seems war hungry more then anyone. So bash bash and Surge Surge. Americans are paying attention. The World is paying attention. Respect needs to be earned not forced. CNN keep reporting if it is good or bad for either Candidate. The voters will figure it out.

Hey CNN...if I've already said this then make it show up on the blog!!!

All you so called Democrats who say you won't vote for Obama had better be prepared to explain why you won't vote for a black man for president. All you Independents who say you won't vote for Obama had better look at the last seven and a half years under George W. Bush and decide if you want four more years of this, and be prepared to explain why you won't vote for a black man for president.. All you Republicans who say you will hold your nose and vote for McCain had better decide if you are better off today than you were seven years ago, and be prepared to explain why you won't vote for a black man for president.

Bottom line – of the candidates who will be on the ballot in November, this white middle-aged, southern, retired military man thinks that Obama is the best one to lead this country back to where we were prior to Newt Gingrich and George W. Bush. This isn't about party or race: this is about the country and it's citizens.

Ok guys watch this: The McCain campaign criticizes Obama for beginning to put in place a transitional team and accuse him of being presumptuous.

Now when McCain is asked about this issue he says the elections are close and so its only okay for any party looking forward to taking over the reigns of Government to begin to prepare for it.

Another one, McCain was asked in 2007 what he would do if a sovereign Iraqi Government asks the United states to leave Iraq and this is what he said: That the United states would leave if they are asked to do so.

Fast forward to friday July 25 2008 when Wolf Blitzer asked McCain the same question and draws his attention to recent indications by the Maliki administration that they are in favour of a time table for the US withdrawal from Iraq and what did McCain do.

He sidesteps the question and calls Maliki a typical politician who is just saying so because Iraqi elections are near.

When he was pressed further he came around and said the would work with a "time horizon" but it should be based on conditions.

folks are you beginning to see the contradictions in the McCain campaign?Just attacking for the sake of it.

John McCain is accusing Obama for travelling abroad to address world leaders.Meanwhile McCain undertook a similar tour to Mexico,Colombia,Canada, Iraq, Afghanistan and the UK.

Are you seeing the double standards in the MaCain Campaign and the mix message?

Fred, go home to Fox and watch your own brand of crap. There's some great video of your guy's majestic campaign activities this week – talking to two people in a grocery store and knocking over a bunch of cans in the process, riding around with W's daddy trying unsuccessfully to look younger than somebody, talking about Czechoslovakia to show off his deep understanding of foreign policy, eating German sausages and whining that he would only make a speech in Germany as PRESIDENT not a candidate. But nobody would turn out to hear him either way.

Congrats! Obama. You made us all proud to be Americans! Now we can see clearly what is needed. The choice is between a man who is clearly unstable and thus, unfit to serve as president... and you... a textbook example of leadership. Thanks!
