Sen. John McCain.
Sen. John McCain.

(AP) — John McCain's is using a weekly radio address to take some jabs at his Democratic rival's trip abroad.

He says the presidential contest became "a long-distance affair" this week, as Barack Obama made speeches abroad to "the people of the world." McCain says he began to feel "a little left out" and wonders if the American people did, too.

McCain also took aim at what he called Obama's "multiple positions" on the surge in Iraq. He says Obama says he still would oppose sending extra troops to Iraq. McCain said — quote — that's
"not the kind of judgment we seek in a commander-in-chief."

The Republican candidate adds that Obama is now urging the U.S. to send two new combat brigades to Afghanistan. As McCain puts it, his opponent denies the surge in Iraq worked, while calling for one in Afghanistan.

McCain also spoke about the economy and the need for the U.S. to end its dependence on foreign oil.

I do not think I could stand it if John McCain became president and I had to listen to him whistling when he talks for the next 4 to 8 years. At least Obama is pleasant to listen to!!

> I agree we need alternative fuels but there is nothing on the horizon
> that can meet our energy needs

That just reflects your ignorance. As someone who works in the fuels industry, I can tell you for a fact that there are a number of fossil alternatives that are viable in about the same time frame that results from offshore drilling would require. Try to educate yourself and maybe you would have something worthwhile to offer.

Aw, poor Johnny-Wohnny. Does he need his nappy time?

Personally, I love that we have a candidate engaging the world without threatening to blow it up - it's been eight long years since this has happened.

Mike Smith   July 26th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

Sola's sarcasm that McCain should visit "CHEZOSLOVAKIA" is quite comical, considering it is spelled wrong and that it is now the Czech Republic and Slovakia and has been for almost 20 years.

I find it amusing but sad to see the childish blogs with the name calling and obvious ignorance of the Obama backers, it sometimes seems like it is the same 1 or 2 persons vigorously re-writing the same lame "old man" and "Mcsame" attacks. I hope the campaign is paying you well, because anyone who thinks, can see that Obama is an empty suit who has not said one (not one) thing that was specific or showed he has any plan. Its is pure rhetoric and platitudes.

K.   July 26th, 2008 8:05 pm ET

I can't for the life of me understand how it's a bad thing that Obama "looks too presidential". What? Don't we want a president who can help our image in the world as well as at home? I'd rather have someone in office who looked like a president, acts like a president and feels like a president than someone who is acting like a sniveling cry-baby.

curmudgeon   July 26th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

The ole geezer McCain(cient) is just too little and too late on all the major issues. That he feels marginalized is a consequence of his no vision platform and presages his impending defeat at the polls. We have had enough of 'their' corrupt policies–change is on the menu and we are hungry for it–even the illusion of it will taste better than the bitter plate we have been served for the past eight years.

Jordan   July 26th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

I don't get it. First Barack was too inexperienced because he had never been to the Middle East and had been to Europe few times, if at all. Now, he's acting "too presidential" and thinks Obama is leaving out America. AND he has the gall to say the Obama is the flip-flopper!

Hmmm….

Sally from Florida   July 26th, 2008 7:56 pm ET

Stop favoring Obama! His ego trip to foreign countries has been over publicized. McCain deserves more recognition because of his sincerity and military experience. Obama's disrespect for General Petreaus, who has valuable military experience and is presently serving his country with honor, shows Obama's inexperience and immaturity. America cannot risk putting such a man in such a high office as president of the United States.

marvin   July 26th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

McCain's statement was wasted, because the American people have always been left out for many years. Doesn't mater whether it is McCain or Obama, both are professional lip service providers.

Best way to handle these politicians is go your own way. The Constitution provides for such liberty.

Ohio   July 26th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

I AM TRULY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE MSM AND HOW THEY COVER THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN.
BEFORE OBAMA LEFT FOR OVERSEAS'S EVERYONE IN THE MSM WAS TELLING THE VIEWING AUDIENCE HOW MUCH THE MEDIA WILL BE COVERING HIS TRIP. AFTER HE (OBAMA) LANDED OVERSEAS THE MSM TURNED ON HIM AND WAS ASKING QUESTION'S "WHY IS THERE SO MUCH MEDIA COVERAGE"? I FIRMLY BELIEVE THE MEDIA IS TRYING TO LOSE THIS ELECTION FOR OBAMA.

tola   July 26th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

McCain is starting to sound a little envious and jealous, also what is his latest position on withdrawal, its a good idea - does he mean now or in 100 years?

Don Colony14Author, Peruibe, Brasil   July 26th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

Good point, McCain… if a troop surge will work in Afghanistan why was wonderboy against the one that worked (although he says it didn't) in Iraq?

Similarly, going after hundreds of millions of gallons of oil in ANWR and offshore would allegedly do nothing to lower the price of oil (Pelosi argued it would mean only two cents per gallon), yet releasing just a tiny fraction of that amount from our strategic reserves would allegedly (according to Pelosi) do wonders! Apparently it's not the thought that counts, it's only who came up with the thought. (Oh, and when we empty our strategic reserves, where will we then get the oil to replenish them? Won't we have to buy it from overseas if we aren't allowed to drill our own?)

Doug in Ohio   July 26th, 2008 7:50 pm ET

I nervous that the American people have gotten used to 3rd-grade sentences and incoherent thoughts as "the norm." A man that can put together articulate, thoughtful, sometimes even inspirational sentences is now seen as a elitist? Friends, if you feel that Obama is elitist, check yourself to find where the line for confidence comes into play, then check yourself, are you afraid to believe in something better, are you afraid of returning coherent thought to the White House? Let's not get all bitter because the man is well-spoken, an African-American man understands my plight, troubles and reality more than an oil tycoon (GWB) ever has and a heck of a lot more than a 70+ year old man ever will.

FIRE BREATHING LIBERAL SOCIALIST MINDED PATRIOT(& so proud of it)   July 26th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

As an American person I'm feeling a little left out of John McCain's campaign. It consists of "I'm not Barrack Obama"- that's the only reason he gives to vote for him.
The government is now putting banks on lockdown and all kinds of bailout nonsense, & when McCain's spokesman was asked to cite a difference between his economic plan and Bush's he stammers for awhile and says "I'm drawing a blank". Well I'm drawing a blank on how these polls are still so close. What is wrong w/these mongoloids!!?!?!?!
And Greg Greenman- WE NEED MORE TROOPS IN AFGANISTAN CAUSE WE HAVEN"T CAUGHT BIN LADDEN YET YOU REPUBLO-DORKIN.

McSurge, haha. That's good.
"Why won't you admit the surge has worked?"
I welcome Senator Obama to silence this broken record with one turn of phrase:
'Mr McCain, I will never support sending more troops to Iraq. Not before the war, not during, and not after. Bringing our troops home is what I supported then, now, and forever more. XX number of troops have died since the surge began- tell their families how successful your surge has been Mr McCain. Tell them how we have now won this war. Tell them how we have brought peace to the middle east and ended the war on terror. Tell them how successful your surge has been Mr McCain.'

Advice for Patti above,
I am disappointed that you feel you do not know the specifics about Obama's plans. Have you been to barackobama.com? If you have, you would know what those plans are.

All you hater Republicans are upset that our candidate is smarter than your candidate. Our candidate runs his campaign like a well oiled machine and your candidate runs his campaign…oh wait, your candidate doesn't know how to run a campaign. Our candidate inspires his supporters; your candidate whines to his supporters like a grumpy old man. Our candidate is smart enough to invite the press to his foreign travels; yours just isn't that smart. OUR candidate knows that he shouldn't have such a narrow vision or strategy in the 21st century; and your candidate's vision is….oh wait, your candidate doesn't have a vision, clue nor strategy!

Would someone tell me what the Clintons are doing? It would not surprise me a bit if they are not part of the GOP that Mc Cain is having here in AZ!! McCain is getting worse and complaining more as the time narrows down, I wonder if he can hold out until November?? He wonders why he does not get any Media time, well what does he have important to say, but Obama bashing. I am sure our friends out in the world who watch our candidates perform are as much at shame for McClain as we are. Maybe Hillary Clinton is going to be McCains new VP. Hope you all watch cspan once in awhile, very interesting on the Bush people and their impeachments. LOL

Happily Independent   July 26th, 2008 7:39 pm ET

McCain feels left out because Bush is starting to do the things Obama said. Bush is talking about time horizons for U.S. troops to leave Iraq. The Bush administration is considering sending more troops to Afghanistan. The Bush administration started some diplomacy with Iran. McCain is left out of the right course the U.S. should follow after almost eight years of GO IT ALONE. Tough diplomacy with our enemies. Re-establishing U.S. leadership by re-building relationships with our allies. When we re-build our international relationships then we can challenge other countries on issues such as fair trade, terrorism, global climate change and other issues. Yes, McCain, you will be left out. You will be left out of the Oval Office when Obama is elected the 44th President of the United States of America.

B.E.Lahmon   July 26th, 2008 7:39 pm ET

McCain has not been left out of anything he's just too boring for anyone to want to listen to him most old people never talk about anything new at all, even if they (old people) never move on or advance the rest of the world usuall does McCain reminds me of my late father in law his conversation hardly ever let the 40s

Steve   July 26th, 2008 7:32 pm ET

Of course McCain feels left out. Look at the contrasts in the crowds and attention each of the two candidates get. McCain represents more of the same thing the world has come to really find disgusting in the US. Obama is giving hope, both at home and abroad that maybe, just maybe, we can fix some of the things that Bush has so badly damaged. McCain is generally focused inwardly (into the country). He has litle respect or knowledge of the outside world. Obama is outward focused, and understands that fixing world problems can help fix home problems.
We Americans may have to wait to November to pick our candidate. The world has already picked.

Edward   July 26th, 2008 7:32 pm ET

Indeed, Mr. McCain got less coverage this week than he could have. Probably a good thing since he:
1) Moved his position on Afghanistan to Obama's
2) Moved his position of Iraq to Obama's
3) Accused Obama of being so unpatriotic as to value winning an election over losing a war, there being no war that we can lose or win, just the abandonment of leaving our troops in the middle of a civil war.
4) Got mixed up about the chronology of the Sunni Awakening and the Surge, a horrible evidence of his "empty suit" intellect
5) Released a TV ad accusing Obama of high gasoline prices, while voting against release of a part of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which would likely pop the speculative bubble in Oil and hurt those financing his campaign

P.J   July 26th, 2008 7:31 pm ET

Iwould feel left out if I was in John's shoes. Obama Obama Obama have you noticed all the face time he gets on the tube and how much is on the web and in the papers. The non biased media has all but put him in the white house. Look beyond all that and check his small political record. Not much good stuff there. Check John's. You will find he buts heads with whom ever is president democrat or republican. I am not in agreement with most of Mc cain's view but I don't much like what I see in Obama's record either. People and the media need to check records and make educated decisions not just put him in the white because he is a good orator and he is not another white republican

RJ, CA   July 26th, 2008 7:31 pm ET

Obama's overseas sightseeing tour makes him an "effective diplomat"? Now that's funny! But wait — 143 days in the Senate also qualifies him to be president. Yup! That's why our country's in trouble - INSTANT GRATIFICATION!

Julia   July 26th, 2008 7:30 pm ET

McCain does nothing except follow Obama's work, snarking and carping at him, then whining about something.
Why doesn't he get his own agenda or pack it up?
I'm really tired of Obama and the press having to try to make time for McCain when he has nothing original or interesting going on.

Trish in NC   July 26th, 2008 7:29 pm ET

I've been seeing this story about McCain whining about lack of attention while Senator Obama is out of the country. McCain complained for weeks that his rival for President had not been overseas and now when Obama makes the trip, McCain is again complaining and whining. This time that he isnt getting any attention! (??) (I also wonder if part of the reason McCain is upset is he realises there is no way he could gather as many people as his counterpart has at any rally, either here or abroad) Why would i want someone who acts like this for President of the United States of America…

Boston For OBAMA   July 26th, 2008 7:27 pm ET

I have ONE question for McCain………When are you going to stop bashing OBAMA everytime he takes a breath and begin your own campaign?????

JP Bless   July 26th, 2008 7:27 pm ET

I think Mccain should change his campain slogan to "the surge is working; not else to campaign on." What he fails to point out is the US spent hundreds of million $$ buying back Iraqi loose weapons about the same time as the surge. Also (about the same time as the surge) Sunis and Shiites reconciled and pledged to work today.

The two incidents no doubt contributed in a big way to the lull in Iraq. What Mccain can't really do is look Americans in the eye and tell them why he and Bush went to a needless war that has so far wasted over 4000 young American lives, a million Iraqi lives and nearly a trillion$$ US cash. Imagine what that kind of money would have done in the US… replace all bridges, rebuild rundown inner city schools; pave thousands of miles of freeways and of course there would be no current credit crunch. Mccain should be apologizing for his role in starting the Iraq war.

Terry   July 26th, 2008 7:27 pm ET

How come know one speaks of the real truth of why the SURGE is working. Our company has clients serving in IRAQ and they have told us repeatedly why it is because we are paying loads of money to local groups to provide security and keep peace. Our American troops are now acting as security personal escorting payrolls totaling in the millions to pay these groups to provide a false illusion of peace.

Just Capri   July 26th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

Why would the rest of the world not want to talk about Sen. Obama when even his opponent can't stop talking about him!! McCain has been running for president for a very long time and instead of attacking Sen. Obama, which only makes him look weak and bitter, he should be explaining to the American people why he, as the candidate they rejected twice as being less than Bush, should be their candidate of choice this time around.

Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

Dave Nittel   July 26th, 2008 7:24 pm ET

My oh my. As is always the case, the best Republicans can do is hold Obama accountable for things beyond his control. He is to be condemned because people are interested in him. And apparently, the media is to be condemned because they cover stories people are interested in!
I won't be surpised to see a backlash from the media though- everytime "they" are accused of a bias they actually believe it and compensate within days. Just because the media objectively covers the Obama campaign without slinging false dirt at the man; they must be in his pocket right? This is how alienated from decency Republicans are: they can't fathom that a man could actually be good!

San Francisco: What's the typical life expectancy of a man McCain's age, and how would it be affected by the abuse he suffered as a POW? What's the likelihood of Alzheimer's disease or other mental decline? At 72, McCain would be the oldest person to ever become president. Reagan's mental health declined in his second term.

Dr. David Katz: Average life span for men in the U.S. is roughly 75. The fact that Senator McCain is a senator, has money, influence, and privilege; a family; excellent medical care — all mitigate in his favor. These are factors that would, all things being equal, tend to extend his life expectancy. His past traumas, and the melanoma, would mitigate the other way — lowering his life expectancy.

You cannot deceive americans with your so-called "surge" - it is the cry of a drawning person looking for something to hang on - we all understand and know what is going on!

McCain needs to retire. It's almost like running in the beauty pageant for a third time and still losing. By this time everything has changed and you have gotten years older and look it. Give it up. You are too old to run a country. Once a man, twice a child. You're in your second childhood now. All you do is whine. The world does not need it.
Obama draws attention automatically, not by favortism from the media. You turn the TV on and Obama is in Berlin with 200,000 people listening to him and McCain is in the grocery store following around struggling people and trying to make it seem like everything is ok. People are not stupid as you think they are McCain.

henriettap   July 26th, 2008 7:13 pm ET

Why does McCain feel left out ?Is it because he and the republicans harped about him not going across seas and not having any experience with the international affairs, well now they are whining because he was recieved well throughout the trip.McCain and the rest of the whiners and the talking heads on radio and tv are trying to find something else to cry about. Now even McCain is saying that 16 months is good as long as things are stable over there. He has explained the surge several times with a different meaning. It was truly refreshing to see that a person representing this country could go to visit another country and get respect. We lost that with the Bush administration we are not all looking for a fight diplomacy is the way to go.

McCain is attacking Obama's position to send more troops to Afghanistan while not sending more to Iraq, whats with this guy? Why doesnt McCain get the message? Our fight is IN Afghanistan, Iraq is not a central front on the war against terror. There are terrorists in Iraq because we went to Iraq not the other way around. Once we leave Iraq and focus on Afghanistan, the terrorists would also go to Afghanistan, the ones that stay in Iraq are the ones that were fighting for Iraqi soverignty and hence not terrorists. The only reason why the US is still in Iraq is because they realized they blundered and basically cleaned the table for Iran to move in on the country. Good Job President Wack Job. thats how youll go down in history.

Oh poor baby, Johnny Mac. I didn't feel left out but I missed my Barack. It's kind of like when your spouse, family member or best friend goes away for awhile. You miss them terribly. Hurry back Sen. Obama, you were greatly missed. Be safe! Oh yeah, outstanding job representing us abroad. You were spectacular, and we are proud!

Garth   July 26th, 2008 6:55 pm ET

John- I didn't feel left out. I was glad to see a leader like Obama on the world stage giving me, the US and the world some hope for the future. John, you feel left out because no one really cares for your message, you, your wife or anything else about the repeat of the last four years.

John, you will never speak for me. Don't try.

There is no proof the surge did what all the proponents say it did. How about the start of the Iraqi government to get it together (because Obama will take the troops out), the rise of the Sunni leaders to work with the government rather than against it, the role of the Mehdi Army standing down and the rise of the Iraqi Army to finally get in the fight. I suggest the surge slightly helped, but there are so many other factors at play here.

In my estimation, Barack is proposing that a redployment of our troops be sent to the long neglected battleground in Afganistan, where help is needed most. Our service men and women there are under supported, under protected and outnumbered. That, to me, is evaluative thinking and effectve decision making.

Incredible standards, What happened to respect our elders. Americans vote for their President. Quite frankly it does NOT matter if the rest of the world likes our President. OUR President looks after US. The Majority of Americans pick the President (usually). So stop saying its "important" that the rest of the world agrees with our pick.

We were founded with half the world hating us.

I have become a political junkie this election season! I have listened to both candidates with an open mind as an undecided voter, and I can honestly say that John McCain's campaign has nothing but hate, and outright lies coming from within! His jealousy this past week spoke volumes! Instead of focusing on the issues that every American is interested in while his opponent was abroad, he attacked Obama each and every day! This is not the John McCain of 2000, the maverick, he has become a bitter and jealous man who feels entitled to the presidency. We want a leader who is intelligent, articulate, and has keen judgment. I will be voting for Obama!

OBAMA '08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

arnold chait   July 26th, 2008 6:35 pm ET

M"cain is most pathetic in his remarks about obama. He seems unable to speak about the more important issues. reminds me of a 3 year old repeating the same thing over and over. THE CAUSUALTY RATE DROPPED BECAUSE THE IRAQ PEOPLE WERE FED UP WITH THE VIOLENCE AND KILLING AND DECIDED TO HELP THE AMERICANS BRING ABOUT CHANGE. THERE HEARTS AND MINDS WERE WON OVER BY OUR TROOPS. m' cain should stick his surge up where the sun do'nt shine. the man is a complete incompetent!

William   July 26th, 2008 6:35 pm ET

Oh MAN! Left out???? Is he joking! John McCain needs to admit how jealous he is of Obama. Maybe if he focused on his own agenda and stopped bashing him, the media and the public would care more about what he has to say! I was an Independent and after listening to him whine about and constantly put down Obama the last six weeks, I and many others I know would never vote for him. I was proud also to see Obama in Europe representing the US. He is an impressive, bright, intelligent man. How sad that some don't see that and would vote for someone so archaic who can't even use the internet!

Frank from Peterborough   July 26th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

Unfortunately it is John McCain's entire campaign that has left him out………..out of the political race to the White House.

He is depending upon the American people being too gullible like they were when they got all hyped up on lies about Iraq when the administration played the public like a 10 dollar fiddle. When you think about this don't leave out the main stream news medias that were cheerleaders for the war and need to accept some of the blame for their complicity.

If the intellectual level in American is at least average John McCain won't come within 40% of Obama………..it's in his policy and in his mind or what ever is left of it.

Jane   July 26th, 2008 6:31 pm ET

Senator Mc Cain's recent behavior is a bit disturbing to say the least.

I was outraged at the dispicable tactics his own party used against him iduring the 2000 presidential primary…in particular the challenging of his mental stabiltiy.

Formerly, the voice of the American people, vowing to return the government back to the people, he was the reform candidate…the candidate of hope, high morals and ideals.

Appearing bitter, a bit envious, and frankly erratic at times, one hopes he will once again embrace the ideology present during his "straight talk express" days. Perhaps this will reenergize his campaign.

It is extremely difficult to watch a candidate once admired by members of both political parties behave in a manner that is contrary to his true nature.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Mc-say-anything is jealous of Obama. Mc-say-anything keep talking about the surge. Do he realize, if we had not went to war in Iraq we would not have to worry about a surge or a victory. How dumb do he think the american people are? Then to top it off he wants Obama to admit that the surge worked. Why don't Mc-say-anything admit that the war was wrong in the first place.

Holden Litgo   July 26th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

Even after all these years of war in Iraq and the lies and obfuscation that got us there and the realization that Afghanistan is the front on the "war on terror" as the terrified insist on calling it, McCain still suggests that the "surge" is the thing that has and will save us from the enemy.

Even after all these years of war in Iraq and the lies and obfuscation that got us there and the realization that Afghanistan is the front on the "war on terror" as the terrified insist on calling it, McCain still suggests that the "surge" is the thing that has and will save us from the enemy.

So he "surges" against Obama, his new enemy, attacking him at every turn for his attempt to give our country options and a new way of looking at old problems. He even attacks the concept of hope. He might as well attack the concept of faith. One we desperately need now because our leaders have taken both hope and faith from us.

Instead of offering us insanity - doing the same thing and expecting a different result - Obama is offering us a new and different vision and he is attacked for it by those with no vision. That's what frightens McCain the most, not feeling "a little left out." He fears his vision and policies and politics are obsolete. Because they are.

The time has come for Americans to do the hardest thing that is asked of any person; change. Albert Einstein once said, “You cannot solve a problem with the same thinking that caused the problem.” And yet the McCains of the world keep trying to do just that.

You can call him whatever you want but names are inefficient weapons in the war against ignorance - which is the real terror we face. Those who are looking for a new day after 7 years of darkness, a new way of governing in a world that was changed forever when an arrogant, elitist and criminal mindset took over the executive branch of this country, will not find it with McCain. His way is tired, desperate and out of step with the world our children will face when we are gone.

It's time for a difference, to forge a new path. It's time to correct the mistakes of anger and greed and violence, not continue them. Our country is better than McCain. Bush and Cheney. And so are its people.

jamal husain   July 26th, 2008 6:25 pm ET

Surge. What a silly expression to describe a complex political process. It depicts the fantasy world of an old war monger whose understanding of politics borders on the absurd. In his mind he is winning a war that was a started on lies, deception and conspiracy, that failed to define any political objective, and whose only parameter of interest is whether violence is up or down. If he is mentally incompetent to distinguish the identities of the warring factions and their interests, he cannot make it up by repeating his surge mantra. He says he knows it all but he will not say what it is he knows. If the Iraqis and Maleki wants US out, will Patreus make the policies for the Iraqis. Are we liberators or occupiers Mr. McCain

If Obama started going on about how the surge worked, McCain would have called him a flip flopper on the war. Why would someone who thinks the war was never a good idea in the first place want to send even more troops there? If it was a stupid war, then why send even more troop?

McCain you are pathetic. For once actually tell us what your plan is to end the war and what defines victory.

Patti - I am shocked by how many Hillary supporters are willing to cut off their nose just to spite their face. It's disheartening to know that Hillary's supporters are willing to sell out to a anti-women's right advocate, denier of sufficient college funds for vets, no cognitive plans for balancing the budget older gent, who left his faithful wife for a younger wealthier girl (Cindy-Lu) whose politically well connected father catapulted John McCain's political career. By the way, where'd this description of "arrogance" of Barack Obama come from? Name specifically when Senator Obama (and not the press) has directly been any more arrogant than Hillary, McCain or even Huckabee. They certainly were never members of the humble-bunch and I dare say anyone running for president of the USA comes with a healthy dose of self-imposed high expectations, thank you very much. I've noticed that when black people demonstrate elevated leadership skills in the civilian world, they are routinely labeled arrogant. Years and years ago they were also known as "trouble makers". Very sad that there are some in our society who feel so entitled to the point where they rather nurse a bout of bitterness instead being proactive for the bigger picture, the bigger cause. Too bad for you Patti and for the other self-destructive Hillary supporters.

Actually, McCain is right. He is being left out, and it really is on purpose. The only thing he's been saying over the last few months is something stupid, or something that aligns himself with Bush's policies. We've been hearing enough of both for the last 8 years. Is it not ironic that you a non-American are also adding your two cents worth to the discussion?! Given the outcome of the last two elections, perhaps some external advice would not be such a bad thing. Americans can still vote their will but wouldn't it be nice to know a warm reception awaits Obama abroad if (when) he becomes the next President?

Does Barack Obama's worldly trip and worldly vision leave Americans feeling left out? What leave Americans left out are McCain, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Bush and the like. These Republican "economists" have put house owners on the street [mortgage crisis fueled by deregulation]. These Republican "economists" jerked gasoline prices through the roof. They have made college education available to the rich only. Credit card rates are 29% while the prime rate is 3. They have left the Americans out of jobs–60,000 a month. They have left the Americans out of money–trillions to Iraq, trillions owed abroad. The words, "left out" EQUAL Republicans. May WE PROVIDE THEM WITH A DOSE OF THEIR OWN MEDICINE IN NOVEMBER!!!!!

McCain talks of nothing but the Surge my friend, the war my friend. the surge my friend, the war my friend. You'd think he'd know that people are tired of his ranting. Let him get serious about our own country, which seems he's not too concerned about. And OMG if he'd quit saying my friend after every sentence. Poor GOP, did they know they were going to lose this election to put such an unelectable in to run? He likes having his foot in his mouth too. Can't wait for this election to be over and done with.

McCain's trip suggestion backfired bigtime! He had his countdown clock running telling everyone how long it had been since Obama had overseas contact. It looks like the only countdown being considered now is the number of days until Obama is elected president.

Crowds waving American flags and cheering, and not in this country. That to me said everything. If the rest of the world can once again be this hopeful and have goodwill toward America, that they are willing to forgive the last 8 years for want of a better world and a better United States, I am too. The emodiment of this transformation of nation comes in the form of an educated ,articulate, thoughtful, dignified forward thinking Barak Obama. The fact that he has a world view, that he understands we need the rest of the world as much as they need us, and that we must work together to survive the future, is somthing that is not escaping the rest of the worlds attention. I only hope that this fact does not go unacknowledged by the American public and this country chooses to elect more of the same McBUSH, if so then we deserve to go down, and we will. What does 'winning' mean in Iraq? What will we have 'won' anyway?

The last thing McCain and his supporters need is for him to get microscopic press coverage. He can do and say ANYTHING right now and it goes under the radar. His campaign is a gaffe machine. Just like mom said, "You just might get what you wish for."
This election is a mandate on Obama. Let Obama get the cameras and the quotes. A gaffe by him will be magnified by the coverage he gets. McCain needs to stop complaining and let everything go under the radar. Believe me, it's better for him the way it is now.
If McCain wants more coverage, it becomes a manadate on him. That's NOT what the GOP needs. The GOP needs a candidate that's comforable flying under the radar that can sneak up on the Democrat this year.
That's their only chance. So all of you Republicans out there complaining about the press and Obama, you better stop it because the press ignoring McCain is the only shot you have at getting him elected!!

McBush, you still don't get it. You have to take our country and it's problems caused by you and your twin, George W in it's totallity, This will require very critical thinking and problem solving skills with the ability to communicate "effectively" with everyone. You seem to have a one track mind, "the surge". With respect to your war hero service, you do not have the educational, nor intellectual skills needed to run this country. My greatest fear, is that if you are elected, America and Americans will have to re-live the past 8 years of a Bush, Cheney, Karl Rove, above the law, cowboy diplomacy administration. You should be proud that American Flags waved in Germany and were not burned as Obama gave his speech. That is called progress and moving forward. You, however, choose to proceed back to the 1960's. I gurantee you, that is a place in time I refuse to live ever again. Last point, the more you and your neocons attack Obama, the smaller and more pitiful you look. You would want to "man up".

He started to feel left out?
Well, perhaps McCain had better up his game, so to speak.
Obama is out there presenting himself as a leader, an inspirer.
Who wants to rush to McCain's events in front of the cheese section?

Yes, substance is the most important thing. But there is plenty of substance on the part of each candidate, so it comes down to how interesting a candidate are you?

Barack Obama is the most interesting person on the planet, right now. Americans and the rest of the world are all watching to see if he'll be the next American president. Some may be hopeful that he wins and others that he loses, but either way, they are watching.
Who's watching John McCain?

Sherry   July 26th, 2008 5:43 pm ET

PATTI…….

WHAT ON EARTH WOULD MAKE YOU VOTE FOR MCCAIN?

WHAT HAS HE EVER DONE FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF WOMEN?

DO YOU EVEN KNOW?

I THINK YOU HAVE A COLOR ISSUE…..

Jeff, Huntington Beach, CA   July 26th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

The surge… the surge… the surge… is this all McCain knows how to talk about? Oh yeah, Phil Gramm will address the economy when he is president…

ben   July 26th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

McCain said if we pull out of Irak it will let the rest of the world think we are a nation unwilling to complete its commitments and there for they will become more agressive against us. I have news for him, if we pull out of Irak the rest of the world will still think the same of us as they always have, that we are the most powerful nation on the planet and to go against us is inviting another invasion , especialy if they have a large oil reserve.
How can this man talk about honor? What honor is there to invade a nation by trumping up lies and presenting forged documents to the United Nations?
How much blood shed was there in Irak before we invaded them?
How can he call them terrorist because they attack us on their own soil? The real terrorists came from saudia arabia, not Irak. The world sees us as the real terrorists because we have killed so many Irakies who had absolutely nothing to do with the 911 attack.

I'm a 53 year-old white woman who is a good judge of people. Just look at the way they treat their wives if you want to see their true character. Obama shows love and respect to Michelle. McCain calls Cindy a four letter "c" word in front of reporters. It can't get much simpler than that. Wake up all you women who are thinking of voting for McCain! He's not a nice person.

Doris,Memphis,TN   July 26th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

Obama is so smart and John McCain is playing directly into his hand.
Whose a whiner now John McCain?

Unbelievable! Typical of this liberal rag of a newspaper. Obama's trip is nothing more than a political ploy to spew his scripted nonsense which says nothing of substance.
I have not seen anything in CNN regarding Obama's stand on Iran and Cuba where he states that they are not a threat because they are so little.
What a moron he is!! They don't attack us with their square footage.
This idiot wants to be our commander in chief!!

Shame on all of you.
———————————————————————————————

YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME. AT LEAST KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT IF YOU ARE GOING TO TALK SMACK. OBAMA WAS TALKING ABOUT HOW MUCH OF A THREAT THEY CURRENTLY ARE RIGHT NOW, COMPARED TO HOW MUCH OF A THREAT THE SOVIET UNION WAS BACK IN THE 60′S.

David H.   July 26th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Obama has not denied the success of the surge in Iraq, we just recently saw that in his interview with Katie Couric whilst abroad. He acknowledges that it's occurrence has reduced violence throughout the country of Iraq.

What he also acknowledges, though, is that that surge would've been more useful in Afghanistan, where the actual "War on Terror" began and has now been forgotten.

Obama is not a flip-flopper of any sort. McCain is simply doing what all politicians do and that is spinning any soundbite he can get a hold of into something his party can use.

David   July 26th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

If you were not such a bore, actually had good ideas, and were the smallest bit in touch with the common person maybe people would pay attention to you. Also, learn to use a computer, don't call the average struggling working person a whyner, support a women's right to birth control, stop playing to the lowest common denominator, and stop being Bushes pool boy.
