LONDON, England (CNN) - Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama headed back to the United States Saturday night, bringing to an end his eight-day trip to the Middle East and Europe.

The Obama campaign's chartered Boeing 757 took off from London's Heathrow Airport just after 6 p.m. local time (1 p.m. ET), bound for Chicago, Illinois.

During the trip, Obama visited Kuwait, Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan, Israel, Germany, France and the United Kingdom.

The senator told reporters just before takeoff that he intended to sleep the entire way home on the nearly eight-hour flight.

Good…now that he has demonstrated to the World that he will be a far more capable leader than McCain, it is time to finish the job at hand. Use this experience to highlight over and over again how McCain in his 50 or so trips never once stimulated the interest that Obama did w/ the World leaders he visited. Why do you think that is?

Did he stimulate them the same way a bum get's stimulated when he see's an easy mark coming? Or the way a parasites eyes light up when they find a new host?

matty   July 26th, 2008 5:50 pm ET

Mccain, you are the one who encourage Obama to take that trip
once you saw he could stand up to world leaders and be good at it,
you started to act like a jelious kid. Barack you got game!!

Sherry   July 26th, 2008 5:50 pm ET

WILLY

SEEMS YOU SOUND A LITTLE JEALOUS

DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT HAD MCCAIN GONE TO GERMANY THAT 200,000 PEOPLE WOULD OF SHOWED UP TO SEE HIM?

I THINK NOT.....MAYBE 400 OR SO....LOL

BELIEVE IT THAT OBAMA WILL BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

Yes, Change we can believe in and Change WE need!
Obama 2008 and beyond!

We don't need more of the same from Bush like minded people = McCain, please no.

Diane   July 26th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

Happy Obama is heading home. Excellent job!!! Now if old McCain would just button his lip! He really is a cranky old fart. How anyone can vote for him is beyond my imagination. What is America coming to?

vince   July 26th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

Get some rest after your huge photo-op (waste of time and tax payer dollars). We will wait for your gaffes and double speak. Get Michelle some earings. Think about why you didn't go visit the wounded soldiers. Maybe a nice 300 dollar sleep over might cheer you up some. How about some $100/LB ham and arugala sandwhiches?

doris enow   July 26th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

ypical Brown to not let us here in the UK see Obama – I only got his agenda after midnihgt last the night (BST) before after watching news/web all day and by the time I would have got to Downing St his press conference woiuld have been over – watched it all on telly instead..
we on the real Left of british POlitics hope to have a proper democratic ;eadership election now Brwon os in trouble – expect John McDonnell Mp will stand again as our candidate – hsi previous bid was mysteriously not mentione dby the BBC today but I know it existed as i woked on it!

doris enow   July 26th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

He did a good job. I wasn't going to vote for him for several reasons, but he impressed me by his willingness to learn about other cultures and nations. That is always appreciated in the world. As far as I know Bush didn't hardly know where Iraq was on the map and never sat foot in Europe. This man was dumber than a gnat in a hailstorm as far as other nations are concerned and we feel the outcome now after his 8 years. Obama did a good thing. People were curious who he is, and if he gets elected they know what they are dealing with. There will be handshakes again when he meets the leaders, and this is a big plus for America. McCaine the sour puss sat at home and found fault. ha ha.....Unless something unusual comes along I won't vote for McCaine, because I appreciate a man who is trying .

They can't stand the fact that a colony of theirs kicked their butts and became the most powerful country on the face of earth were freedom abounds. I don't think most americans will be voting for the BLACK MONARCH that the europeans want. Just like it didn't elect that blue-blood Kerry.

Here is someone who has the respect of world leaders and who can restore faith in the USA, because the reality is the only way to finally get peace in the world is the American leader having the respect and leadership to get countries to sit together, discuss and come to a consensus about how to stop the terrorists and how to use the armed forces of all the countries to bring peace. I wish Barack Obama was our leader, and I sincerely pray that he will be your next President.

Take that week with your family, rest up as your journey and trip to the White House will be full of GOP set landmines and smear tactics. Your values and steadfastness will see you through.

while you were away, the opponent spent all that time trying to change the game. They stole most of your plan, and now wants to make them theirs. The also oppenents plan to steal all your good judgements, make theirs, and leave you with none left and then trun around with some audacity to call you in-expereinced. The next thing after that (of course!) would be to appeal to the fear and racism amongst the majority of the country that do not and will not travel. History has it right that this is how the Repubs always win election. This year will not be different. We only hope that the nation has woken up from its Republican sedation to reclaim respect from the world. Get your rest and please fight hard from now to the finish line. Good luck Obama!

Obama = America leading the world by setting a positive example.

McCain = America "leading" the world through brute force and going it alone.

Republicans need to realize that brute force and going it alone costs a lot of money and we'll bankrupt us, much like the old Soviet Union.

Lisa   July 26th, 2008 4:26 pm ET

I haven't believed in the change that Obama has to offer.

PL   July 26th, 2008 4:26 pm ET

There is nothing wrong for Obama to have gone for this trip for "fact finding" to help him better grasp the temperature of foreign affairs. But the places he visited, the photo-ops, and his speeches portray him as something entirely different. He is acting like a "presumtive" president of the United States. In actuality, he is the "presumptive" candidate for his party for the general election, meaning that he is yet to be endorsed and officially stamped as the democratic candidate at the convention after due process by the final votes of the delegates and superdelegates.
He was so swooped up by the hype and opportunity of the moment that the display oozed presumptiousness and arrogance which trumped concerns for propriety. You would think that he is the president, or the secretary of states, or foreign minister of the US.
Hat off to his campaign staff. How did they pull that off no matter the result being plus or minus for history to judge. Wow!

I don't usually listen to Rush Limbaugh because I get so very angry, but I happened to have the car radio on one day this week, and your successful trip to Afghanistan, and the other countries seemed to set him off. I thought he was ranting, and it was hilarious. I got the impression that he was ticked off because you were getting such large crowds.
I was very impressed with the welcome that you got in Kuwait, from the military personnel there. It had to be very gratifying for you.
I am praying for your election to the office of President of the United States of America. I shudder to think of what will happen to our great country if we get another Republican Administration!.

Obama hasn't proven anything on this trip that would help him with his campaign at home.
People were looking for dialogue with substance and instead they got the usual political rhetoric.
As one newspaper said , Obama's dreadful , underreported performances when away from teleprompters makes you wonder more and more if their is even less to the Obama pheomenon than one thought.

The recent terrorist attacks in India clearly show that talking to terrorists and having an open society to promote muslims is not going to stop these barbarians from conducting attacks. Obama needs to realize that this is an ideological war driven by religion and not just a political war. If Obama doesn't change his stance on tackling islamic terror, then he is not the right person to lead America in this time of international crisis.

I am getting so sick of the biase news reporting promoting Obama that I have no plans to ever watch this news station again. This whole overseas sweep Obama took was disgusting. It was so staged and presumptuous. He is not the president of The United States and I pray everyday that he never will be. He is not qualified to be president. He has very little experience. He had an absent father from Kenya. He spent very little of his formative years in the United States. He has spent 20 years in some radical church where hate was promoted. With the background he's had there is no way he doesn't have dysfunctional aspects of his personality. What are the people in this country thinking. They'd better wake up.

RJ, CA   July 26th, 2008 3:45 pm ET

Obama does not represent ME and millions of other Americans abroad. Currently Obama is NOT the elected president - he is only a Senator. The ONLY people he currently legally represents are the people of Ilinois. He did his overseas dog and pony show under false pretenses - but what else is new! Not only is Obama merely the "presumptive" candidate - he is a PRESUMPTUOUS phony!

And, no, Loretta from California - Democrats will NOT unite this time! This time it's country over party!

You shouldn't need much rest with 300 advisors and this is because you don't know what you are doing. Just keep reading the speeches the 23 year old writes for you and keep refusing to debate and maybe you can keep on fooling people. Hope and Change LOL!

McCain 08'

LT for Obama   July 26th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Has anyone noticed that over the last week, Obama has barely mentioned McCain and when he did, it was with respect and decency even after he heard about McCain's week-long bashfest?

McCain has spent the last two weeks say "My opponent does not..." The man is like a broken record that I have finally gotten tired of hearing. I attempt to watch his speeches, but they are so full of crap. He says he has a plan for everything but does not elaborate because he then starts bashing Obama.

My favorate was yesterday when he announced that he knows the Middle East and knows how to win wars and knows how to capture Bin Laden. Well, if that is the case, why have you not shared this with our military by now? Wouldn't it help you more now if you had captured or killed this man before the election to show us how skilled you really are? Talk about saying anything to get elected. McCain preys on our fears. This did not work for Hillary, nor did complaining, it will not work for McCain.

Pennsylvania for Obama'08   July 26th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

A well deserved rest for a job well done! How many of us could keep up that kind of pace day after day and still make sense? Obama will be a tireless President for all... not just the wealthy.

Welcome back Mr. President.

Thanks for reminding the world what a great nation we are.

Now let's start the work to defeat backward thinking in this country (McCain and his horde of followers)

Me   July 26th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

Here's hoping he gets a chance to stop by some small town diners in Michigan, Colorado, North Carolina, and Ohio when he gets back. The people need to know the man even better.

Obama has shown himself far more capable than McLaugh. He didn't make a single misstep through his trip, and even the conservative commentators on the McLaughlin group this week noted the trip was a resounding success.

carolinas   July 26th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

dormar   July 26th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Good job, and get some rest so you can tell that old man off lol

Shannon   July 26th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Oh goody, maybe he can focus on some of the problems we are having here, maybe he could spend some of his time in the Senate, doing the job he was elected to do. I hope in doesn't interfere with his rock star schedule, but one would hope he could pay attention to high fuel costs, the housing crisis, the cost of groceries, or are those subject way to mundane for the man who's picture is on the cover of people. We need a leader, not a celebrity!

Farrell, Houston, Tx   July 26th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Berlin, you can't have Obama because we need him here in the U.S.A. Great going Obama and Welcome home.

Mike in Cincinnati   July 26th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

Just an absolutely outstanding week. Obama has shown that he has the intellect, the ability, the values, and the judgment to represent us on the world stage. He has the ability to rebuild and extend our alliances, and in so doing, will move the U.S.'s agenda forward in the international community. If anyone had doubts about his capability before, this last week should help ease those concerns. He IS the real deal.

Arden   July 26th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

Good. Although watching all of this live was exciting and he accomplished exactly what he needed to do and was forced to do, its time for him to get home and focus on the economy, the economy, the economy. Pick your running mate, get on your bus and head out together to the hearland. People want specifics. What are you SPECIFICALLY going to do to get people back to work, get money in the pockets, gas in their tank. These are the main topics. Sen. Obama can visit wounded veterans after he gets elected. Although a Vist to Veteran families like at Ft. Hood, Texas would't hurt make up for the canceled visit in Germany. Welcome Back Senator Obama. Job well done. Now let's get you elected.

Africa4obama   July 26th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

well let´s be mature here, because love him or hate him, one thing important here is the man(obama) has turned in a positif way the world eye on america that is about to be totally forgotten because of to the policy of bush and administration! and when even he should not be elected president i think he´s tour throughout EUROPA would make people continu to have a look at what´s going on in usa for sometime. and that alone is good advertisement for america.

Well Done   July 26th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

Well done Obama. What you have done in 8 days, the Bush govt. couldn't do in 8 years.
Have a nice trip home. The Americans accomplished what was lacking in this country. A true leadership for the world. We are in the Gobal arena. You made us proud. Now America, it people and flag will be honoured again in the world. You put a shine on this tarnished image. I am so thrilled to see the world leaders treating you with much love, friendship, honour and respect.

Obama is "so heavenly minded that he is no earthly good!" He can read saccharine rhetoric with no substance, and he is a good pretender in his one act drama. He still uses his kids in magazine glossy photos (People Magazine), and he forgot to pray for the "Peace of Jerusalem" as he posed at the wall!

Obama is the most nauseating, arrogant, egomaniac that has ever disgraced the political scene.

Concerned Canadian   July 26th, 2008 2:32 pm ET

I think Obama's trip was a resounding success and allowed world leaders and citizens to see the hope and the potential of a changed America, one not run by Republican money grubbing war mongers. Those same world leaders Obama met with have televisions, internet and read online newspapers too. I wonder how they felt about McCain as they watched him spend his week repeating the word SURGE some gazillion times and attacking Obama at every turn. Did he earn their respect I wonder?????

He failed to spend his time while Obama was away on promoting his own policies and positions, thereby missing a tremendous opportunity. He does not come across as serious about this country, just serious about beating Obama.

Clark   July 26th, 2008 2:32 pm ET

Welcome home! I never thought you'd go to Iraq and receive an implicit acceptance of the 16 month withdrawal plan from al-Maliki...and another, more explicit acceptance from McCain on Wolf Blitzer's show. It just goes to show that Mr. Obama is the man for the job.

Americans will not be fooled by an adoring press. We will not support someone with so little experience. The press can keep pushing Senator Obama on us but the voters will not elect him. We are not electing an American Idol. We are electing a president, which is more than a popularity contest.

Also, the last time I checked Europeans could not vote in US elections.

We will choose experience, judgment, and a genuine war hero over a zero every time!
