Obama last played basketball while visiting U.S. forces in Kuwait where he complained of hip pain.

CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) – Just back from an eight-day trip to the Middle East and Europe, Barack Obama went to see a doctor Sunday night at the University of Chicago Medical Center to examine a sore hip.

"His hip has been sore from basketball for a few weeks so he's going to see an orthopedic doctor," said senior adviser Robert Gibbs.

Obama works out almost every day and is an avid basketball player. The last time he played was shooting around with U.S. troops on a quick stop in Kuwait where he complained of hip pain.

UPDATE: Obama left the hospital less than an hour after entering, telling a pool reporter that he had some X-rays done because of a basketball injury but "It's all good." "I think I'm going to be good in about a week." He is back home and leaves Chicago Monday morning for a day of economic meetings in Washington.

When Obama visited Kuwait at the beginning of his international trip he told the troops, "Unfortunately I have a hip injury. You don't believe me, I was playing a couple weeks ago and I had a little twist up. So I'm not going to be able to play full ball with you guys. But I am going to take someone in a game of horse."

Some of you Obamabots are the stupidest sounding people I have ever heard, your remarks have no basis of truth or any facts.

This empty vessel, hurt his hip dancing around any actual answers to questions.

The fact is simpletons he LIED about visting the troops and HE GOT CAUGHT, but the media is allowing the story to dry up.

McCain should keep pounding this home as Obama is just another socialist who HATES the military.

AdamW   July 28th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

Republiscams are funny. When it's one of theirs you people think everything is news. I remember when CNN and other stations though Bush clearing bushes and trees at his ranch was news.

They tried to paint him as a regular guy who does yard work but they didn't show all of his ranch hands that this so called regular guy can afford to employ. Ridiculous.

The fact is people like Obama. He sells news because people like him so CNN and other media outlets who are all about money are going to sell him. Get a clue. They do this for all interesting people. The other fact is McCain is not interesting. His tired old war stories are not relevant. He has no vision for the future because he lives in the past. The American people want a new future, new ideas...they don't need more tough guy talk about staying the course. The days of John Wayne are dead.

CNN Why do you print some of these totally stupid and ignorant comments? Can't you stick with comments that actually make sense and are literate? I want to read the comments of thinking people. Those who actually care about this country and what is good for it. Please chose the comments more carefully and not the ones you do, just to get an ignorant exchange going.

Tomorrows Story: CNN reported that Barrack Obama had a hang nail. Actually it was a historic hang nail because it was the first time that a black Presidential nominee had one. The Obama camp stated that Barrack is in good spirits and he will make a major speech about the hang nail later today. I love how the media is trying to win this election by keeping Barrack in the lime light.

I thought Obama's trip was to see how things are in Iraq and Afganistan. To talk to the Generals and troops. He spent less time there than people on vacation. And where does the importance of going to France, Germany & Britain come in? That had nothing to do with Iraq or Afganistan whatsoever. Just an oppurtunity to give a speech and LOOK Prsidental...what a joke. Obama doesn't care about America, He is for CHANGE...Yeah, change to World Governance, headed by the United Nations. A redistribution of America's wealth to poorer countries thru the UN. Obama wants a new world order where he will become its first King!!!

Hello CNN / ONN (Obama News Network), instead of focusing on Obama's hip / lumbar / sacral pain including etiology, intensity and duration of the silly pain, and all about his frightening WIFE, can you
please spare a minute to mention LITTLE BIT about the GREAT HUMANITARIAN WORK CINDY McCAIN has been doing all over the world, especilly in Africa where your OBAMA'S fatherland is located OR LITTLE BIT about the meeting that John McCain had with Dalai Lama high lightening the sufferings of Tibetians and atrocities of China. Why you are wasting so much of time on a man with IDENTITY CRISIS, is no one's guess – Obama has Muslim name, but he shied away of visiting a MOSQUE in Kuwait, but had time to play basket ball – he freaks out if some one asks about his connection to Islam or whether his father was a Muslim. WHO IS HE?? We all are concerned about the consequences, because we Germans do contribute our troops (as part of NATO) to your BATTLES. We certainly oppose to let our TROOPS fight and die for the mistakes that you make out of your fantasies. So, stop your BIAS and give a justifiable journalism, and let the people decide.
You (and your MALE CHAUVINISM) can't even imagine of having a talented WOMAN as YOUR PRESIDENT, because you worry that there woudn't be a First Lady. PATHETIC!! Europe is far AHEAD of you.

I don't get it – first they won't vote for him because they don't know anything about him. Now that we know his every move, people are saying "who cares."

He is being criticized for going to Berlin and acting presidential in front of 200,000 people. Why is the media not reporting that there were 2 rock bands performing there before Barack stepped on the stage? I am willing to bet that 150,000 of those folks were there to see the bands not Barack Obama.

And about going to see the troops in Germany at the hospital – why was he not allowed to go with cameras? Is it because our government won't even let us see when one of our soldier's coffins is brought back to the states. Not good press for the Bush Administration about his decision to go to war. Maybe if Obama would have been allowed to go with cameras we might have seen some our soldiers with no arms, legs, terrible injuries. All things that this administration does not want us to see. Yea, McCain you and Bush can fool the people some of the time.......

Well if McCain filpped-flopped why don't you report it?!!! If it was Obama that flipped you would be reporting it all week. Stop being bias and report the story correctly or I will head over to MSNBC. I'm sick of CNN's one sided reporting. The good thing is that no matter how much you try and make Obama look bad, his poll numbers continue to climb. When is McCain going to come up with some of his OWN ideas, and not Bush ideas. For example the surge. McCain acts as if he came up with that idea when it was George Bush's idea. All I ever see McCain do is critize Obama. He critized Obama's trip to Germany. The only reason why he critized Obama's trip is because Obama had over 200,000 supporters in Germany....GERMANY! McCain come not get that support on his best day..so he is showing his jealousy by critizing the trip. LOL...Come on McCain!!! Even Republican Chuch Hagel said "McCain should know better than that."

PS-There are clips of McCain all over YouTube.com showing how many times he flip-flops. They should change his name to John "Flipper" McCain. Also, his ads suck!!!

Inconvenient Truth   July 28th, 2008 10:45 am ET

Because we starved Afghanistan of troops while focusing on Iraq, 9 servicemen died in a brazen attack by Taliban and al Quieda forces. This is one man who stands up with confidence, never losing his focus, never losing his temper because he is not afraid...because fear is replaced by anger...and self-confidence and stability is replaced by better judgment and long term goals that are met by a better President. One who is much younger, however, with all working cells to perform the best leadership and change for the world. This man is definitely the best to run the country. Why do you post articles such as this while global news sources have focused on the policies of both candidates? The health of Senator Obama is important as is the health of Senator McCain and Senator Clinton, but how does this news affect citizens who face unemployment, homes in foreclosure and who have loved ones who are in danger overseas? Lord Forbid any of the above-mentioned individuals face a serious health issue which may affect the general election, and such news should be reported, but not necessarily this news. Don, Fairfax, VA   July 28th, 2008 10:25 am ET

Obama has a boo boo . . . for all those that are complaining why CNN is reporting this stuff, please remember the Obama campaign releases this information either formally or as I am sure in this case informally. Pretty soon the campaign will start letting the public know when Barack has gas . . . that's from all the hot air.

I thought hip problems were for old people...
Can this person with elderly traits possibly be president?!?!

Obama 08: mature, white woman   July 28th, 2008 10:21 am ET

Why is CNN giving free media time to a McCain ad that is inaccurate. McCain also was refused and accepted the decision not to visit a Florida in April of 2008 due to the fact that it was political. The McCain campaign stated that they played by the rules. Also, the footage of Obama was of him playing basketball with the troops in Kuwait.

The three senators also visited wounded troops in both Iraq and Afghanistan announced by both Senator Reed and Hagel.

Yes, give McCain equal air time which means equal scrutiny.

Obama Mia!   July 28th, 2008 10:21 am ET

He's not the one complaining. He is doing what any of us would do. Go to the doctor. The news media are the ones that report his every move. Its a wonder they don't follow him to the men's room. Give it a rest. You (media) will have next 4-8 yrs to follow him around on more important matters.

GO OBAMA

MikeH   July 28th, 2008 10:16 am ET

Obama's hip injury is proof positive he is not qualified to be president.

(Just practicing my PUMA/Republican Troll imitation).

Yo, CNN whatsamatter, you guys chicken? I posted a rant about compromised polls four times and you have the "Your Comments are Awaiting Moderation" label on them all weekend on closed threads. Am I too close to the truth?

". . .shoot a game of horse. . ." is not a presidential thing. Get real.

Marik   July 28th, 2008 10:14 am ET

The media doesn't give equal time to McCain simply because McCain has nothing of value to contribute to the human race, let alone America or the campaign. McCain is a useless, old, whining relic. Nobody gives a hoot about him, he's done, in my eyes, he's already done the honorable thing and given up. Long live Obama.

MAMMA MIA   July 28th, 2008 10:12 am ET

Well, Well, Well...The price of gas has gone down a significant amount and without offshore drilling. Was it do to Senator Obama? I think not! How long is the MSM going to let Bush and his crooked administration get away with their lies and deciete of the American people? Americans have suffered enough under his rule. He and his administraton should be jailed for their abuse of power.

The MSM should be ashamed and do a better job in seizing those conceiled documents the Bush administration has been hiding for the past several years and expose those criminals as they should be.

I know the MSM are overruled by the GOP and big money but you all should not be afraid to let the American people know the TRUTH!

Can't you come up with at least one photo of this fool where he's not surrounded by a majority of blacks? NoBama 08/NoBama's Ever

brad   July 28th, 2008 10:07 am ET

funny...no white people anywhere to be found...I know if it was McCain...and all he had was white people...you would have everyone from the NAACP to Jesse Jackson complaining racism!

I'm white...I'm not a racist and I despise anybody who is. But I just thought I would point out something the Blacks point out all the time about the whites.

This country will never change because our stances are too different on just about everything...IF you don't believe me, sit down for an hour or so with someone of the opposite color and chat with them...someone with the same income level and knowledge (education) as yourself and discuss issues plaguing our country. You will find out just how right I am...

I want change, I really do...But nothing is being done about it! The blacks use the racist card when a white policeman pulls them over...even if what they were doing WAS ILLEGAL...and the whites claim they didn't get promoted because the company has to be diversified so a black person was promoted instead...

I hope one day I can walk around my city and see whites and blacks getting along in everything they do...not just a few common themes.

Pray for Americans...Black, White, Latino, Oriental and so forth

President McCain   July 28th, 2008 10:06 am ET

It is ironic, that of the two candidates, it turns out to be Sen. Obama who is suffering from a bad hip.

Pick Me! Pick Me!   July 28th, 2008 9:59 am ET

McCain has stated that he survived because when the Vietnamese learned who his father was they rushed him to a hospital where his wounds were treated.

McCain admitted in the U.S. News and World Report article that the Vietnamese usually left other U.S. prisoners with similar wounds to die, not wishing to waste medication on them. McCain pointed out "there were hardly any amputees among the prisoners who came back because the North Vietnamese just would not give medical treatment to someone who was badly injured. They weren't going to waste their time."

So much for being beaten every day.

People believe what they want to believe, be it the truth or not.

Awwww, BO got a boo boo!

Maybe he can lay his hand on his hip and heal himself, since he, according to the press, can walk on water...

Lets see 5 years of torture in the Hanoi Hilton versus a sore hip playing basketball for a photo opt with the troops, you decide.

kiddada   July 28th, 2008 9:58 am ET

CNN,

Is this man whining already about a minor sports injury? I don't hear McCain complain about his aches and pains–multiple bone fractures from torture-defending the USA. Quite the wimp, I would say. Typical, focusing on himself instead of Americans.

Phil   July 28th, 2008 9:57 am ET

I'm just thankful it wasn't aggitated too much while in Germany. I would have hated for him to have the dilemma of visiting an American doctor where the wounded troops are staying. Talk about awkward!

I was upset when I learn that he skipped seeing and meeting our troops and visit injured soldiers, instead he goes and plays Basketball, that's really Presidential.

I rather vote for a candidate that is going to take time and really mean that he cares for us, for example taken the time to visit the troops, they are the ones that we owe our feedom, and I mean to play Basketball too Mr. Obama.

Shari, NY   July 28th, 2008 9:56 am ET

Get well soon! You covered a lot ground over the past week and you need a break. As your overseas mission has come to an end it is befitting to give credit to Sen. McCain without whose help (criticism) it probably would not have taken place. Obama jumped to a significant 9-point lead over GOP rival John McCain – his largest lead since the Gallup Poll began tracking the general election horse race in March. Obama tops McCain, 49% to 40%, among registered voters nationwide, Gallup's daily tracking poll conducted from Thursday to Saturday revealed. The latest survey results represent a "continuation of Obama's front-runner position," Gallup pollster Frank Newport noted Sunday.

I second this. I guess the obamatrons (CNN) would rather follow every step obama takes instead of reporting the real news and issues.

nina   July 28th, 2008 9:28 am ET

Maybe he is over exercising?

Looks like the start of another day of Obama praising for CNN. Obama the Great!!!

A Nightingale Sings in Berkley Square   July 28th, 2008 9:28 am ET

Why doesn't McCain release his records from Vietnam? What's to hide?

Google – Songbird McCain

Rennae, VA   July 28th, 2008 9:27 am ET

This U.S. election really does bring out the worst in fellow Americans and citizens abroad.

It's truly sad just how mean-spirited people can truly be towards each other. True personal and moral attributes are cockily displayed when cloaked by the anonymity of the Internet.

Sad, sad, sad...

Kevin   July 28th, 2008 9:27 am ET

Obama should not be doing extreme sport at 46. He should also reduce his 3-pointer show because Republicans are already using it against him.
Basketball players are not seen to be the best politicians especially when that politician is black. So Obama be careful.

Janice   July 28th, 2008 9:27 am ET

This isn't even worthy of lining my cats litter box

John   July 28th, 2008 9:27 am ET

Somebody check McCain's pocket for a voodoo doll with pins in the hip.

"I hear there's several Teams looking for a good 3-point shot! Think you can fit that in on week-ends…as you work to secure the World the other five days?"

Bush rides his bike fairly frequently, when he's not out ruggedly posing for rugged photo ops as he ruggedly clears rugged brush on his rugged Texas ranch, and nobody gives him any crap for that. Although I suppose being a skinny athletic guy would make Obama an unsuitable representative of a nation of fat lazy slobs.

Polly   July 28th, 2008 9:26 am ET

This makes the news?

A Nightingale Sings in Berkley Square   July 28th, 2008 9:26 am ET

Timber,
McCain aided the enemy during his imprisonment in Vietnam to avoid the torture. That's why they call him Songbird McCain, Google it. Turning over on your fellow Americans does not make you a hero, it makes you human.

Sen. Obama and his family are constantly in our prayers.

Nick, NY   July 28th, 2008 9:24 am ET

So many bitter comments here. A man [yes, politicians are people too] has a sports/stress injury. So Sen. Obama likes basketball, a lot of men like sports. Sen. Obama is not 20 anymore and while he may work out frequently and keep active, he is not immune to injury. I think if the worst the injury does is change a friendly game with the troops into a game of horse, we're doing well. Heal well Sen. Obama try not to let it slow you down too much these coming days/weeks.

Jack Walden   July 28th, 2008 9:24 am ET

Wonder when McfCain is due for his Hip replacement?

ron, NYC   July 28th, 2008 9:24 am ET

Gas is over $4.00 a gallon where I live. Groceries are so expensive I have to forego some necessary items on my list. The country is embroiled in two wars. What does CNN, the so called news network put up on its ticker? Obama's hip sore. All morning, the McCain camp has been up in arms about Obama not visiting wounded troops in Germany. I don't think this back and forth answers the basic concerns of millions of Americans. You guys in the corporate media can let the Republicans use the troops as political pawns as they have always done. But this does not help the country. The so called mainstream media is just disgusting. You are a disgrace to journalism.
Please try to give us facts on what matters to Americans.

James Hussein, SC   July 28th, 2008 9:23 am ET

Timber (ex dem),

McCain was NOT beaten! He received his injuries from the plane crash, and then squealed like a pig for help from the Vietnamese military. After then he help them as much as he could to debase our POWs there. Why is it that he only gets support from a handful of Vietnam vets? They remember who he is and what he did to them. McCain is NO hero. He is a traitor and has extorted the Vietnamese government into closing the records on our MIAs to protect knowledge of his treason against the USA. Ho hopes to make up for his evil ways by, "winning," the Iraqi war that he helped start. He was one of the original five who proposed attacking Iraq.

If you really care about McCain, go prove me wrong.

Susan   July 28th, 2008 9:23 am ET

Obama's lead is 49% to 40% for McFossil. Enough said.

pb   July 28th, 2008 9:22 am ET

It amazes me that some of the comments made on this blog are so hateful. Is it too much to say, "God bless you and keep you well and safe, Senator Obama." You don't have to be a supporter of Obama, agree with his politics, or like the color of his skin to wish a fellow human being well. God has his back!...My God, what have we turned into?

Open Your 3rd Eye   July 28th, 2008 9:21 am ET

Can you give the guy just a little freedom. This is NOT news, please stop with the BS.

Hey guys. If McSame gets elected we are in big trouble. I don't no if we can stand 4 more years of Bush.

E.C.Coleman   July 28th, 2008 9:20 am ET

Yes.....and who cares? What Americans DO CARE ABOUT is that this egomaniac was too busy to stop in and see the Wounded U.S. Troops at the Hospital. Does he forget that thes very men and women are the people who allow his 'freedom?' Was Obama too busy, or what? Afraid to go alone? Or just play ego-centered and selfish?

Sandra   July 28th, 2008 9:13 am ET

McCain uses nothing but attacks in his ads now. Negatibecampaigning at his best. He even cut the troops from this video and used it in his latest ad to say Obama cares more for himself than the troops.

Whiner.

I am sure someone is going to say something to the effect that his sore hip means he shouldn't be President. I fully expect a stupid and ignorant statement like that here. Let's hear how he shouldn't have been playing basketball with the troops. He can't win with some ignorant folks because they will always come up with something petty.

Well, he must rethink about running for Presidency, what lies ahead ?

Becoming a Prez of USA is not something that he may have learnt from his dear friend Rev Wright, talking and boasting and flipping all the time. You need a stamina Mr Bama, a fighter's stamina.

And you think you can compare yourself with any war veteran ?
