Clinton holds 'retirement dinner' contest

Clinton's campaign advertises a chance to win dinner with the senator.
Clinton's campaign advertises a chance to win dinner with the senator.

(CNN) – No, she’s not leaving politics, but she is still trying to retire more than $25 million of campaign debt.

Sen. Hillary Clinton’s Web site is advertising a contest to win a summer “retirement dinner” with the former presidential contender. The price for a chance to win is a contribution to her creditors.

“Summer is a time for simple pleasures: family vacations, baseball games, and dinner out under the stars,” Clinton’s e-mail to supporters says. “At least it is if you aren't running for president! It sure is nice having a little more time on my hands, and I'd love to spend some of it with you.”

Those interested in helping Clinton retire the debt can pay from $10 to more than $2,300 for a chance to win the dinner and “talk about whatever you’d like.” The campaign’s site doesn’t say where the winner will dine with the senator, but it mentions that round-trip transportation and the total value may run $3,000.

According to the latest filing with the Federal Elections Commission, as of June 30 Clinton is $25 million in debt, over $13 million of which is owed to herself.

I'd love to have the dinner, but the company would be questionable. I wouldn't be able to believe a word she says.

    Just a side note!

During this campaign, lobbyists and trade groups donated $181,000 to McCain, while Obama received $6,000, according to the New York Times.

She should write it off as a "BAD INVESTMENT"!! I thought NOBAMA was going to help her out – seems as though he has lots of money from "WHERE"? Anybody figure out where he's getting all his money yet? Rumor is a lot of it is from "OFFSHORE SOURCES"!!

Money does not make a great President. A Great President will put their money on the line for the will of the people.

Obama will never donate a red cent of his own money for the American people!!

Michelle Obama is flip-flopping now by saying she likes Hillary. This is the same woman who stated she would not vote for Hillary is she was the Presidential nominee.
    --------------------------------

You are wrong Susie, Michelle said she didn't know if she COULD vote for Hillary if she won, NOT that she WOULD NOT vote for her. Make sure you get it right before you post.

She should just eat it. If you're campaign runs out of money, guess what – you're campaign's over. Now, if YOU decide that you want to continue on your own money, that's YOUR problem.

PUMA: biting off their noses to spite their faces.

People need to look beyond one single agenda to see the big picture.

It's unfortunate Hillary is in this position, but she should have seen it coming and known to suspend her bid. That said, if I had money to donate I would .. : /

  17. obama is unfit to be president of this country

I gave contributions to you twice but I can no longer help you. I will never vote for obama.......NEVER. I am so ashamed of you and Bill Clinton for having to kiss that fool's butt now. You should not do it! You never will understand that it is not the party but the man/woman that counts. Obama is such a joke running around with his "oh,look at me....I look so presidential......oh, I'm so important. The man is a liar and will bring nothing but trouble to this country. You know it and so do 18 million others. He is simply UNFIT.

I understand why Hillary is doing this. What I don't understand is why politicians go wild with expenses and feel the public should pay the bill. This campaign has been fueled by out of control expenditures on everyone's part for far too long. Someone needs to stop this waste.

I will gladly help her pay off her debt; I am in total support of her and her accomplishments to this point, and, I hope she never gives up on what she believes is best for this country. I would absolutely love to have dinner with her, but, my daughter would love it more!

If we give her money, will she promise to stop talking and go away??? I had no intention of bailing her out of her debt since she really did bring this on herself. I would, however, gladly contribute if she would just leave us alone...I can't think of anything more dreadful than having to sit over a dinner with Hillary and finding out about "what Hillary wants." Can you imagine what she would have done with the US budget just to get her way?

well u just got your big analysis report from CNN how Obama and McCain are clean from the "money with strings attached" – aka lobbyists. Obama is saying he doesnt take money from the D.C. lobbyists, but he sure does from big business, blunders, special interest groups, and last but not least – from State and Local lobbyists... Hmmm I really dont see what's the difference if one lobbyist works for X company and operates in state on behalf of this company, and another also working for X company is unfortunate to be registered in D.C. It's same effect for me.
