A new Obama ad hits back at McCain.
A new Obama ad hits back at McCain.

(CNN) - Barack Obama's campaign launched a new television ad Wednesday night declaring John McCain has taken the "low road" over the course of the presidential campaign - a direct response to the Arizona senator's television spot released earlier in the day likening Obama to celebrities Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.

"He’s practicing the politics of the past," the ad's narrator says as headlines from various medial outlets stating McCain has gone negative flash across the screen.

"John McCain. Same old politics, same failed policies," the ad's narrator also says.

Earlier: McCain camp links Obama to big celebs

McCain's ad, released earlier Wednesday declares Obama "the biggest celebrity in the world," while flashing images of both Hilton and Spears.

"But is he ready to lead? With gas prices soaring, Barack Obama says no to offshore drilling and says he'll raise taxes on electricity. Higher taxes, more foreign oil - that's the real Obama," the ad's narrator says while crowds screaming, "Obama!" are shown.

The McCain ad is the latest in a string of hard-hitting television commercials from the McCain campaign. Earlier spots suggest Obama is playing politics with the Iraq war, is against funding American troops and bears some of the responsibility for high gas prices.

UPDATE: Tucker Bounds, spokesman for the McCain campaign, released the following statement in response to the Obama campaign's new "Low Road" ad: "Pointing out your opponent’s worldwide celebrity is not the ‘low road,' and neither is pointing out that he opposes oil drilling and supports higher taxes.”

Did McCain think Obama would just sit and take the false attacks?? This isn't John Kerry, Obama fights back, and will win.

McCain's only chance at winning was to remain a 'maverick' and run against Bush's policies. Instead, he's become Bush's heir, and the American people don't want the same old failed policies. All the ads and talk is just filler, the choice is clear.

I am deeply disappointed with John McCain. What happened to the "Straight Talk Express?" Shame on you, John McCain, for becoming something that I never thought you would, Mr. Negativity.

Maggie Muggins From Selwyn   July 30th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Get off McCain's back. He can't help it don't forget the aging process might be beneficial to fine wines and liquors but probably not the right recipe for President of the United States.

Why don't people just look at the appearance of both candidates and honestly choose which person you would want representing your country for the next 4 years. The past 8 years with a rodeo clown at the helm has seen nothing but protests and flag burnings all over the world. And yes the U.S. image does matter world wide as you are not an Island unto yourself.

Parish   July 30th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Apparently he is ready to lead, because McCain is following in his footsteps when he changed his mind on a 16mo withdrawl timetable. Bush is following when it came to sending a high ranking official to sit in on the Iran talks.

I cant wait till the conventions are over when the REAL race starts. All this other crap isn't even news worthy. Neither candidate has gone into detail with their plans.

Texun   July 30th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Yup, McCain has taken the "dirt road", but it won't lead him to the White House. He has too much to hide–including his service record and his wife's income tax returns–to be fighting in the gutter. It figured that his campaign would take this turn after he hired several of Karl Rove's disciples. What kind of judgment does McCain have? None of the right kind! He's a bitter old man under the control of some totally amoral controllers.

Jeff Long   July 30th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

I saw this attack ad and it was very lame. Obama, you are the weakest link!

Clinton, no, wait, McCain Supporter   July 30th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Great ad, McCain folks.

Barack is all nervous, so nervous he had to crank his sorry excuse for a "reply."

This ad captures so much in such a short time. Brilliant!

It's hits too close to home, eh, Obama??

McShame is an idiot!!!!!!!!!!!! Just a sad old man with nowhere to go but negative. The best he can do is ride around with grandpappy Bush and speak in front of a cheese case and a German fudge shop.
McOld needs to retire and go home and enjoy his family with the time he has left in the world.

Tired of living as a 3rd world citizen in the USA   July 30th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

I cannot believe people will vote for any republican in 2008. Especially those that are living paycheck to paycheck. If you are not living paycheck to paycheck you probably do not have enough savings to survive 6 months of unemployment.

Why can't we just listen to the words that come from the candidates mouths in there entirety (in context)? Not just the pieces the media want us to hear. Are we that closed minded? This is really pathetic. The road ahead of us as a nation is very long (still).

I want my children to be proud of this country for it's Greatness. We have lost that and if you don't think so just look around.

I love the Obama campaign. They are quick with the response. Take that McCain, R.I.P. the strait talk of express of 2000.

I can't believe I respected you.

Obama 08.

Jack from California   July 30th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

John McCain is engaged in the most dirty campaign since old bushie beat him back in 2000.

John can't come out with his real platform because the American people have had enough of that stuff! So, he engages in mud slinging like all good republicans!

Larry/TX   July 30th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

It seems that some prominent Republicans are stepping up and criticizing Mccain, and rightfully so. Even some of his supporters, at least the ones who attended college, are turned off by this thinly veiled attempt to appeal to the voters worst instincts.>>>Don't trust someone who looks different, talks different, has a different kind of name. I have no problem with sonone who has rational based criticism of BO. But to appeal to people's prejuidices is another thing entirely, and is highly contemptible.

Michael   July 30th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

Why, why, why doesn't anyone publically ask the "maverick"
Senator he has caved into GOP pressure to go so negative
this early in the general election cycle.
Sadly, tons of young voters will like the fact Senator Obama
was connected to the starlets. Obama may gain votes from the
under 25 crowd because of the ad.

Obama moved the DNC to his headquarters. McCain has
given his message to the fear mongers in the GOP.

Maybe the GOP can run with out a candidate. It seems that is
what they are doing anyway.

Peace

Wisco   July 30th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

Dang, I guess McCain's whole plan is to be "President Not-Obama." Doesn't he have anything to say about himself?

Observer   July 30th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

McCain would have done better to have Paris and Britney do a "McCain Girls" ad for him (you know, like "Obama Girl"?). Much more effective use of their names for him. I can just picture it now....

L.Bowie   July 30th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Not Cute Grandpa.....

Alphafemale   July 30th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

The ad does not quote media outlets claiming he has "gone negative" it quotes several media outlets saying the charges ARE FALSE – BALONEY – NOT TRUE. Get your sorry reporting straight.

Since Tucker Bounds does ALL the talking for John McCain why isn't HE running...oh thats right McCain is stuck in OZ- pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!

William J.   July 30th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Why does this post purport to be about Obama's ad but only link to McCain's? That doesn't make any sense.

Neither do McCain's spokespeople. Has anything intelligible ever come out of their mouths? These to be the most juvenile, amateurish PR people I've ever seen. They must think we Americans are pretty stupid. I for one am fed up with McCains old, stale ideas and his negative campaigning. Americans are hopeful people, not haters, and McCain's negative campaigning looks desperate and shameful.

If you'd like four more years listening to folks that treat you like second graders, McCain's your man. I on the other hand think America is ready to fulfill its destiny for greatness, so I'm voting for Obama!

Jimbo   July 30th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Kansas Republican is a hypocrite and a fool. I am so sick of people like that. The GOP(gross old perverts) are the masters of the smear and dirty tricks. Edmund Muskie, Tom Eagleton, Tricky Dick and Watergate, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth? It won't work anymore. And after they tried to destroy Clinton, we get Mark Foley and Larry Craig, and that's just a couple I can remember. Help me out here people. Let's bury these creeps for good. Democrats in 2008!

Perla   July 30th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

The McCain camp is looking more and more desperate and without a real message.

Ron   July 30th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

Too bad Senator Obama has too stoop to this level to send a clear message to the voters. Wish he could stay above the fray but with the false and misleading statements being made by McCain, the RNC,and certain conservative groups, what else can he do but defend himself and state the truth.

Sarah   July 30th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

I like the update part. Pointing out facts are the new low? take the hit man. Just point out that you have more followers and he's jealous...something along those lines. When are we going to debate? Talk about real issues? 2 wks before election? Get on the ball Media or your not going to have a Country to subscribe to your cable Networks.

Ifzal (AZ)   July 30th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

this clearly shows that McCain has no policy or a clear message. Old dirty tricks. if he wants to be the president he has got to show the people what he stands for beside supporting failed Bush policies. Barack in new, young but at least he has a clear message and he is talking to American people.

Stephen   July 30th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

Can some one please explain to me how Obama's ad isn't an attack ad??????

Alex   July 30th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

The old man is losing it. Did not he used to say this time around it will be different. I guess you cannot teach an old dog new trick. Anyway of his recent comments has any substance...just attack on Obama. Mr. McCain if you substance debt on issues or the scare tactic did not work for you on Bush. I just lost total respect for you. Anyways I was wrong in entertaining the idea of you being a decent opponent. You really proved that you represent the past.

RD Larson   July 30th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

John McCain is pitful and very afraid of Obama winning. I think he puts him self into the same spot as Hilton and Spears by using such a disgusting ad against Obama.

Christine   July 30th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

Kansas Republican July 30th, 2008 6:55 pm ET

"Yeah! Anytime McCain says anything about Obummer, he's just terrible. "

This wouldn't be an problem if McCain would stick to issues instead of personal attacks. People are tired of the Republican tactics when it comes to politics. McCain is so busy attacking Obama instead of stating where he stands on issues that no one knows what he stands for only what he doesn't like about Obama's stance on issues. He sold out to the Republicans, no longer having a mind of his own (which is probably why he doesn't state where he stands) and he's lost a lot of votes because of it.

Independant Thinker   July 30th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

Obama ought to know, he has been practicing old time politics himself.

Alex   July 30th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

As a Reoublican who awaits who John McCain will pick as a VP running mate (and that choice will decide whether I vote for McCain or not), I find this latest commercial absolutely ridiculous, stupid and mindless. Whoever McCain has running this part (and others as well) is a moron. These types of attacks linking Obama to two females who have serious issues despite their money, is weak and the point of their ad gets lost in the mush of a disjointed ad. Whatever happened to running a clean campaign, or did you just forget John?

Donna from Colorado Springs   July 30th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

McCain needs to read the paper as gas prices are not soaring as they once were.He does live in the past, and when he talks you hear the voice of George Bush. Constant attack ads are the sign of a man out of touch with the real issues of the day, and people are tired of them. From the mouth of the man who vowed to run a clean campaign concentrating on the issues, I'm sure that his ads will get very dirtyand viscious the closer we get to election day. It his stock and trade and the same type of campaign ads he ran against Bush senior. What a shame that the public has to hear the ranting of a man like that.

susie   July 30th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

In 2004, Obama liken himself to Paris Hilton, it wasn't McCain.

Bill   July 30th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

A nice uppercut after an underhanded shot seems fair to me...Old politics and the failed policies of the current administration have no place in a real America, and it will come to a stop when the American people start to demand accountability from their elected officials. If I remember correctly, they work for us, and I once heard that the customer is always right, more apparently, for better or worse. We need some sort of change in government now, if not yesterday. Bring on the debates.

Sam   July 30th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Obama's complaint = a slam against Britney and Paris. Why does he dislike the comparision?

John, London   July 30th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Its about time.
The GOP Negative tactics shall backfire on them this year.

Comparing Obama to Paris Hilton just lost McCaine team and the GOP youth votes and help to reaffirm the fact that McCain and the GOP is indeed a Geriatric Party with Geriatric ideas.

Obama as Democratic Party nominee spoke in Berlin and over 200,000 people turned out to see and listen to him. Imagine how many shall turn out when he goes back to speak in the same city Berlin as President? Perhaps Million. YES. Thats the extent to which he's loved all over the world.

Surprisingly, McCain too had been in Europe before where he couldn't even raised a crowd of 500 people. He comes accross as a dull, uninspiring man better suited to an Elderly Nursing Home.
He's just gone a step ahead to confirm this by his ad.

SHAME on McCain and the GOP.

Give it up Johnny.. you will never outshine Barack..never..

joanne de Menna   July 30th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

The McCain ad likening Obama to Paris and Britney is childish and jealous. I personally love the fact that the rest of the world is behind Barack – and the U.S. It's about time.

Instead of focusing on "People Magazine" politics, Senator McCain should take another course in Geography.

Jesse   July 30th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Obama is kinda starting to seem like a wuss as he tries to shift to the pollitical center for the general election. You should at least man up and stick to your beliefs, instead of Kerry-pandering to the center.

Yeah... Take his licks without crying and throw his punches without sarcasm...

This campaign is supposed to be about the issues we're facing as a nation. Not about dragging each other through the dirt. Unfortunately most voters, like politicians, would rather fight amongst themselves then get things done. Then these very same people wonder why things are the way they are today....

Splitting into different parties was the worst thing that ever happened to politics in this country. Let's think of more ways to divide ourselves. Using common sense is obviously not an option.

I think there may be some truth to the add. Albeit a low ball, but some one needs to show the sheep in this country that they are being led astray by nothing more than a celebrity pied piper. I'm glad to see the McCain campaign striving to enlighten people.
I concur with (Kansas Republican) and believe Obama needs to stop having a press conference and calling foul every time a new add comes out.

I'm a Democrat, and my Mom is a Republican, and we both felt terrible for how the 51% of the Democrats isolated and ridiculed the remaining 49% and demonized a loyal and hard-working Clinton, a proud Democrat and a patriot for the party.

Now you're at it again, laying insults at the feet of the truth about Obama's inadequacies. Get over the fact that the man does in fact have faults, and has errors in judgement, and perhaps doesn't see as much of the picture as everyone wants to claim.

What is wrong with you?

Maybe you could get an education if you supported a candidate that believes in making higher education available to everyone that wants it instead of a candidate that literally does not want to sign off on a GI bill to give our troops benefits because he doesn't want it to be easy to get out of the military. Before the attacks, he said that America was tired of the old attack-style politics. He and Cindy has stated emphatically that we wouldn't see any attacks fro the McCain campaign. Is abamba threatening the life of American Hero John McCain? I just read a blog that said obamba was challenging John to a duel. obamba just can't help himself with his mega ego personality can he?

Barry also said he is related to Wild Bill, George Bush, a King of England and a host of others to probably include Osama himself. He just can't help himself. He is risky and I don't trust him.

bam may not be a Muslim but he is no stranger in the Muslim Church.

He will raise your taxes and "dis" your values.

Tried and true is John McCain

Marv...   July 30th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

I really would like to hear from the Christian Right. I truly think McCain has represented conservatives across the board very well these past two weeks. All those pastors who stood by while G.W. Bush and Carl Rove called Good evil and evil Good without speaking a word. As the Republican attack machine spewed filth and slander all over honorable men who served their country, like John McCain and John Kerry, the Christian right didn’t find any error.

Conservative Christians supported this type of sinful behavior twice. Now they sit quietly in a corner pretending to be confused and unsure of themselves. They (Conservatives Christians) took part in slanderous deeds for the past 7 years. Now.... silent they sit.... allowing themselves and everyone who followed them to be mislead by the Conservative party.

Shame on you... those of you who call yourselves by HIS name. If you continue to set by and don't voice your morals about the downward path your party has taken, then God will take your voice period.

Offshore drilling will not lower gasoline prices in the short term, even the Prez said that. Prices are dropping a bit due to the fact that we are using less. Refineries are producing at 85% capacity but yet we are not rationing gasoline like we did in the 70's, why is that? What I saved in a tankful of gasoline today didn't buy me a latte nor an extra gallon of gasoline. Tax cuts given to those top 1% during a time of war didn't create all these jobs they were suppose to. We have almost half a million job losses since the beginning of the year and almost as many home forclosures. Our troops are getting killed in Iraq while taking showers and KBR/Halliburton is refusing to take responsibility putting the responsibility square on the shoulders of the ARMY,but continues to take the paychecks from DOD. And you guys want to talk about celebrities?

Just to weigh in, McCain is looking desperate. I used to say that if there was ONE republican I would ever vote for that it might be him. Seeing how he has handled the pressures of facing Obama, with it not even close to the election, I have to face the fact that I guess I'll never vote republican...

Let McCain claim Obama's campaign is one of flowery hope... sometimes, hope is the best road we have to take...

William Spencer, NC   July 30th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

You can't really blame McEmpty for trying this. Since the media gives him a free ride he has nothing to lose. Also, he has nothing else to offer except bashing Obama. The view from outside looks like Mr. McCain needs to change his campaign managers he is rapidly becoming no more than an object of ridicule.

The old time politics of trying to confuse the issue and twist the opponents words into something other than what was actually said and/or meant just won't cut it in 2008 as people are becoming more sophisticated and not as gullible as they were in yester year.

I would like for Sen. McCain to use his ad money to air commercials that tell us what he stands for and what he will accomplish as president – not what is wrong with Obama!
How are we going to solve the country's problems? Negative ads about opponents turn voters off. Be positive and tell us what you will do and stop giving publicity to your opponent.

Peter Esquilin   July 30th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

Same old Republican tatic from a warey Senator who has been in Washington too long and cannot even do an impressive campaign and yet he had all this time during the Democratic Primaries and yet he cannot do anything right. Maybe somebody should lend him some gas money because the warey Senator needs a vacation because he cannot stay focus on anything, I guess thats a reqisite to being a Republican President.

Tucker Bonds from McCain camp is right Obama opposes drilling but why. Because the oil companies haven't drilled and extracted oil from the current leases so why give them more (Bush and McCain constituents). Obama will raise taxes but on the wealthy americans who don't pay many taxes anyway (Bush and McCain constituents). If Tucker Bonds is going to counter with some criticism he should tell th ewhole story.

McCain needs to stop the negative attack , this is what Hillary tried to do and did not work. We understand that McCain does not like the way people around the world like Obama, that when he went to Canada, Mexico and Colombia people did not even notice he was there, these things happen. His time to be president was a long time ago! Now it's time for a new leader , a younger, and smarter one OBAMA.

So what CNN is trying hard NOT to say is this:
Obama is still winning, big time.

Oh, yeah, and his fundamentals are far better than that of his Democratic forebearers. (No matter how hard right Republican-funded outlier polls are overweighted.)

Still, should be fun watching those averages climb coming out of the Denver Convention!

McCain can only operate on the "low road". I truly admire Barack Obama for always taking the hight road.
He is not your ordinary politician. I have yet to see him throw a low punch or come out swinging like his opponents have. He has shown us a new way to play the game.
Some times it frustrates me and I want to see him fight back and decry the lies.
He never does because he is a man of honor and his morals and judgment always shines thru. What a fantastic role model he is for all of us.

His sucess is American failure.

This is ridiculous. Yes, the ad produced by McCain is immature. However, need we pretend that this is the only negative ad out there, and that this season of campaigning has been on the high road? I beg to differ.

Also, wouldn't it be wise to link McCain's original ad relating to this story rather than only linking Obama's ad, in the spirit of bipartisanship?

I used to find McCain interesting and respectable. I have been appalled at not only how negative and snarky he has seemed lately, but particularly how often what he has said has been PROVABLY false, with sourcing from right or left media. Why would he approve multiple attacks that are outright lies?

I miss the old John McCain that I supported so strongly in 2000 when he first ran for president.

I do not say this because I can't handle the fact that politics often involves negative attacks. I say it because it is hypocritical of McCain to continue down this path, and I don't think it will help him in the end. He is going to rally his base, but lose his independents.

Old McGovern Democrat   July 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Will somebody please investigate whether McCain's support of big oil profits stems from the fact that his mother's family was connected to Oklahoma oil? That may be the reason he supports obtaining more drilling rights instead of drilling on the properties the oil companies already have leased. It seems he won't be satisfied until all of our environment is dotted with oil rigs. After two terms of the oily Bush clan draining our resources (both mineral and human, as well as financial), haven't we been bilked enough?

Johnny McC   July 30th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

MAVERICK!!!

Mike in Cincinnati   July 30th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

Obama has come into this campaign with a message that has genuine content. New ideas, ideas about the future, about changing the direction we are headed in. Some may not agree with all those ideas, but at least the content is there. And he has backed it up with his outstanding performance as the leader of his extremely effective campaign, and most recently, as a representative of the U.S. on the world stage.

McCain's campaign seems to be simply one of criticizing Obama, leveling personal accusations in a way that tries to paint an image about his character that is blatantly false. No new ideas in his message. No sense that he will work to solve, or that he even has any idea of how to solve, the horrific problems that the last 7 years have left us with. Just personal attack and inuendo.

It is clear to me who is taking the high road in this campaign, and who has the skills to deal with the complex problems of the coming decade. Again, you may not agree with all of his ideas, but Obama is a pragmatist who will indeed work for the solutions that we need.

Can any one tell me any of McCain’s actual positions on helping the economy, helping seniors and the self employed obtain affordable healthcare. Oh any analysis on his intention to over turn roe v wade and subjugate American women to back alley abortions once again. how about equal pay for equal work...I know he says they need training, which is sexist, women have been in management and running companies for quite a while now, I believe they are actually more competent than men in alot of instances, just hardly paid what they are worth, McCain I guess thinks women are under trained and still need to earn their way.....hummm
will he ever talk about the issues that America is facing right now...all he and his campaign seem to do is complain about Obama, and the good things he is doing and motivating our citizens to do...yes make a change in your self so we can change our country for the better...

The question is: do we want corporations controlling our government, or do we want our government controlling corporations? We have seen the results of 8 years of Bushonomic free market corporate governance and there's nothing "free" about it. The government regulates nothing. The corporations go wild, and when they collapse, the government bails them out with hundreds of billions of corporate welfare debt which our children and grandchildren
will have to pay back. Is Obama the answer? I sure hope so because this country will collapse completely if we have to endure another 8 years of McBushonomics.

Wow   July 30th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Yes, the Celeb Obama is responsible for the poor state of the economy; the high gas prices; the Iraq war; the epidemic of home foreclosures that are a direct result of the policies of Bush and what was, until recently, a Republican controlled Congress. Senator Obama will also be responsible – unfortunately of course – for trouncing Senator McCain in the biggest landslide ever! I can't wait to see it happen...

If he speaks intelligently, he is arrogant, if he is confident, he is an elitist. If his speeches attracts a lot of people he is acting as if he is already president. What do the American people want, another IDIOT? Obama is an intelligent man who is no different from Bill Clinton in a lot of ways. He met with economists to talk about the issues WE are faced with and people have a problem with this. Personally, If he wins, he should be prepared to take over on day one. Americans need to educate themselves and be grateful that we finally have a candidate that will make us look good. I cringe every time George Bush speaks to world leaders, no, wait, I cringe every time he opens his mouth. McCain offers nothing new. I am waiting for him to detail his plans and he is spending his time focusing on Obama. Should he not be focusing on the issues we are facing everyday?

I heard today on a Canadian radio program (CBC) that Oliver Stone has made a movie on George Bush...his earlier years. I am hoping that this movie will disspell some rumors, for example: that he Bush is not as stupid as he has presented himself over the past 6 years in the media, that he & the "Dick"(Cheney) are not really putting our neighbour into the toilet...economically speaking plus maybe the final scene in Oliver's movie is George Bush is going to be tried at the Hague for war crimes( as he is instrumental for killing over a million of innocent people; children, Elderly & women during these wars).

Also Obama is Chicago Politics which is ultra liberal politics and is as screwed up integrity wise as Louisiana politics. Obama has MoveOn.org and othe 527's to do his bidding for being the smear campaign. The Swiftboaters' integrity is saintly compaired to these organizations.

Vigla   July 30th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

The McCain campaign is SOOOO desperate... People are tired of this nonsense... He has no ideas, looks tired, can't speak well, can't remember what he says, and IMHO is not fit to be President of the US.

Remember Reagan's second term when "he couldn't recall" anything and he let his cronies run the show? That's what we have to look forward to, but worse!

I want someone who has the energy, intellect and judgement to be POTUS.

Obama 08!

Danielson   July 30th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

No to offshore drilling is a legitimate point...just back it up with legitimate facts–unless we nationalize the revenues...that "stuff" goes to the highest bidder. How's that workin' for you now?

How's that workin' for you in 10 years with double the global demand? That's right–you're not "saving" a dime, we're putting a band-aid on a gash in our energy security, and we're not requiring the Oil companies to explore the 70 million acres they DO have rights to domestically, but are ignoring.

Taxes on electricity is a distortion of position–Obama has suggested that EVERY energy supplier be taxed higher based on the amount of damage they do to the environment...meaning...the carbon scrubbers they were SUPPOSED to install in 2001 (repealed by Bush and the 'pub Congress) NOW have to be installed in order to be in BASIC (not advanced) environmental compliance.

In 2005, incidents of childhood asthma within a 25 mile radius of NON compliant power plants was up...get this...1500% percent. NOW do you feel bad about higher taxes to do the right thing?

As for being an American abroad who draws crowds of curious admirers waving American flags...rather than throngs of protesters BURNING America flags...I can't honestly say that a little "celebrity" bothers me in our potential President.

McCain is a battered, doddering shell of the man who ran honorably in 2000, and the sooner we all recognize this, the quicker we can MAYBE get the country on the right track again.

libby   July 30th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

McCain is an idiot and anybody voting for him is an idiot. Childish ad. McCain is getting worse and worse.

Bill   July 30th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

Mr McCain is allowing his heroic past to be lowered to this?! How sad, because this will be what he is remembered for. Now he is very pitiful and desperate. I will always remember John McCain for what he was, an honorable, brave man. How sad for this man.

Bob   July 30th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

Apparently if the Republican smear machine can't find any actual dirt on the opposition candidate, they'll either make stuff up (like when they said that Obama didn't care enough to visit the troops in Germany) or engage in childish insults like this ad. But more than anything else, all it does is make McCain look mean, petty and a little desperate. It's like this supposedly heroic figure turns out to be just another Karl Rove stooge.

Jennifer L   July 30th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

This man must not want to be president!

St. Louis   July 30th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

Right on, Allison! McCain's misstep of reminding us all how much his wife is like an old Paris Hilton is interesting, indeed. But Cindy McCain's astoundingly flat affect and apparent void intellect, are probably due to the drug problem. It also explains how someone rolling in money as she is, would steal prescription drugs from children in dire medical need of them. Clearly, she has terrible judgment and that continues, with the little "forgot to pay my taxes" issue. Sounds like she needs needs to go to rehab stat.

Jerry from Oregon   July 30th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

McCain only supports offshore oil drilling because it looks like someone's doing something about gas prices. but ANYone with any common sense knows that opening up offshore drilling won't produce any more oil for years; so gas prices will still be high.

the secret is that we need to reduce our demand for oil which is Obama's plan.

Jim from CA   July 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

Whether you lean politically towards Obama or McCain, the McCain ad is objectively ridiculous. Here are some brain-dead bozos, and they are very popular. Here is Barack Obama, who is also very popular. Therefore Obama is a brain-dead bozo. Oh, and add the obligatory tax and energy policy reference so you can insincerely claim it was an ad of substance. Nice old-school political touch. Any candidate that "approves of this ad" is unfit to be president. Either he is confused by basic logical fallacies (Some A are T, Some B are T, All A are V, so All B are V) or he thinks we are too stupid to know we are being insulted. I will not vote for someone who calls us all idiots

Beth   July 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

I think most of the political ads are ridiculous but Jeanne Moos hit a low point when she wasted all of our time reporting on McCain's shoes. I would never vote for McCain for President. Never. But, the man is entitled to buy $520 shoes. So what? We all know his wife is worth zillions and he should dress to maintain that level of social status when he is out and about. Please stop wasting my time with the analysis of shoes!

GerryM   July 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

John McCain has taken another lesson from the Bush family. It is the politics of sleaze. John McCain will now begin the narrative of the negative. His handlers think that the best way to support McCain is to go negative on Obama. Wrong, Senator McCain. All this proves is that McCain is morally bankrupt and is willing to go the way of the Bush family when it comes to competing with ones political opponents. How hard could it be for McCain to remember that the Bush family orchestrated the attack against McCain during one presidential primary campaign that claimed that McCain was the father of a child born without benefit of marriage? Barack Obama will continue to defend himself as he did when Hilary Clinton attacked him. Barack won the Democratic primary campaign despite the best efforts of the Clinton attack machine. My belief and hope is that he will do so again and prevail against the attack machine coming from McCain and will be the next President of the United States.

Jack Noble   July 30th, 2008 9:20 pm ET

McCain's spokesperson–all sweet innocence–protests that the ad is only stating the truth about Obama as a "celebrity" who stands for tax increases and against off-shore oil drilling. No context–except the addition of the bad girls, Spears and Hilton, to spice up the message. Give us a break, McCain. How stupid do you think we are about politics and politicians. The ad appeals to those whose minds are already set against Obama and nobody else. We who are tilting toward Obama are encouraged to go the whole way by McCain jerk-off ads.

Funny ad that speaks the truth. But Allison- Mclean, Va you should be ashamed by your own stupidity to say those things about Cindy McCain – she is generous, donates her time and money to many good causes. M.Obama does't come close to Cindy.

McCain is ALL WRONG! Obama is actually more like Tom Cruise than Paris Hilton or Britney Spears. Arrogant, delusional (thinks he's already President, tries out his new "seal"), ties to a controversial "church", freezes out any media or anyone with enough guts to pin him down on an issue and keep him there, and has a gaggle of breathless followers hanging on to his every word like he's the Second Coming. Sound familiar.... Scientologists? I don't like this ad, I think the Republicans could do better. McCain could do better, but Obama will never get my vote. And all these people who say he's "hot"? The only thing hot about Obama is the continuous whoosh of hot air as he changes directions every ten minutes.

And how much does Cindy McCain charge on her credit card each and every month? The latest figure is $ 100,000 and what about the $ 800,000 condo they bought their 19 year old daughter in Phoenix. I don't see that Obama was brought up with any of these horrendous values.
And to his campaign people, these ads ARE the low road. They are a complete turn off to anyone who has not made up their mind. If the only way McCain can win to is to bash Obama's character, then who wants him as a president. Not me, his ad campaign is disgusting and so is he. What happened to "running a respectful campaign." Another lie from McCain just like the many others. What an ego.

Brandon Hillary,

The precise problem is that the media does not do this for John McCain. Look at how he gets away with basic mistakes: mixing Sunnis and Shiites, and saying that Iraq and Pakistan border each other.

Same old politics is something Obama is quite aware of – he is afterall a disciple of the crooked Chicago political machine where they use every means possible (short of hiring a hit man) to remove or smear their opponents. His becomming a senator unopposed was an awesome example of great political manuevering – merely get all of your opponents administratively disqualified and then the people have noone else to vote for.

R. Cooper   July 30th, 2008 9:00 pm ET

Do you really expect the McCain to take the high road? This recent conduct is typical of losers. McCain's back is against the wall and no one is paying him any attention. He's down in the polls. Obama, always takes the high road. I think it's a little too late for McCain to learn such manners. He should still try to learn how to log onto the internet.

With all of the money the Obama campaing has to spend, I should think that thety would be way out in front by at leat 20 points. Instead, they keep loosing ground. The Dems have lost too many Hillary supporters. He needs to get beyond and above his ego and choose Hillary his VP to save this election. It is for the common good, not just Obama's ego. He and we need Hillary on this ticket. Wihtout her, no matter how much money he spends he will loose this election for all of us. We must urge him to do the right thing.

I can't believe this off-shore drilling issue is even a conversation. It's as dumb as the gas tax holiday or the invasion of Iraq, for that matter. Action for the sake of action (tail wagging dog) is not the way to run a country. At least Obama has the spine to stand up against as short-sighted recommendation like driling off of our coasts. McCain's stance was totally predictable.

I dont blame Obama for striking back. he has been pretty cordial the past couple of weeks. While McCain attacked and trashed him during his Middle East and Europe tour. Obama showed due respect by not attacking McCain or Bush during that trip.

McCain has no program. He has no Charisma. He only has his Negativity to show for. There will soon be a backlash against this guy.

I see that the Republican propaganda machine must be circulating an e-mail that says we can get oil from new offshore drilling to the consumers in two years.

I have even seen "Obamalism" say that "we have already proven" this whole two year plan.

Even John McCain admitted that the impact of new offshore drilling wouldn't be felt for a decade.

Now all of a sudden it is two years?

To those voters that are undecided: Just think about what it says about a candidate's position on certain issues when his campaign has to propagandize the campaign and try to fool voters.

Gas tax holiday? Ridiculous idea that benefits oil companies.

Offshore drilling? Ridiculous idea that benfits oil companies.

Iraq war? Ridiculous idea that benefits oil companies.

How many of these do I have to list before people understand what is going on here?

TREP   July 30th, 2008 8:51 pm ET

I do not see how anyone can claim that McCain will protect American values. What values are you talking about? He has not held a firm position on anything except the surge. (We'll ignore that he has tacitly accepted Obama's 16 month time table, or is it a time horizon.) He has flipped on taxes and only recently embraced the Environment. He used to be against torture, but now is not. He talks about responsibility, but has not cast a vote since April 6th. He has promised to run an honorable campaign, but has not done so yet. I do not know what he stands for, except the surge in an ill-advised war. I want someone to defend McCain's ideas and show why they are superior to Obama's not just tear down a man whom you do not like.

Karen - Maryland   July 30th, 2008 8:51 pm ET

I am so heartily sick of the McCain ads. Its is rather sad and pathetic.

Also, to the PUMA's on the board – just s few things to think about if John McCain becomes President:

1. Chances of us going to war with Iran – 100%
2. Chances of our troops staying in Iraq for an indefinite time – 100%
3. A larger deficit – 100%
4. Women losing their right to have an abortion – 100%
5. Women losing their right to use contraception (there a draft memo in HHS that would make the most popular methods of contraception (the pill, the patch, the shot, the ring, the IUD, and emergency contraception) a form of abortion).

Would I have liked to see Hillary win – yes. However, I can see the bigger picture. By voting for John McCain, you are condemning thousands to misery and death. Just something to think about.

paul   July 30th, 2008 8:50 pm ET

I like McCain, but he's been a maverick for his whole career and this is an example of where it's hurting him.

I'm sure he loves the Britney/Paris ad, as they reflect the whining going on in the McCain campaign plane. But McCain needs some cooler heads to say, "Senator, I know that imbalance is unfair [though the matter is really debatable], but we need to stay on message. Let's talk about how we're going to get the economy humming again."

Ashamed to be from Kansas   July 30th, 2008 8:50 pm ET

McCain? Lets be real......Obama doesn't put streaming video, of which he could, of him singing Barber-Ann (reference to Iran) or any of his other mis-steps, mis-speaks, etc. Doesn't McCain know that he's just making himself look more stupid? Will someone please tell him he can't compete. The sad truth is that if Obama unleashed what he could on McCain, he'd look like he was attacking the poor OLD guy. Give me a break; when is this election going to get fair..

Democrat -WA   July 30th, 2008 8:49 pm ET

I wish someone would point out that the demand for oil has only gone up about 15% over the past 10 years and the cost has gone up over 600%. I think it should be important to point out that we are paying what the market will bear for oil. Nothing more, nothing less. We need more competition for oil, not more oil.
I would earnestly like to see the media dig into these issues and shows us some substance. Inform America and perhaps we can get more traction with Americans and get some real action from our politicians. They do what they need to in order to get elected. We drill for oil here and we'll just be paying the oilers here the same price for oil that we are paying OPEC. That doesn't help us folks that are down the ladder a few rungs.
C'mon America, let's get informed instead of regurgitating politico spew. I have nothing against the energy industry. I do however take exception to being milked like one of the energy industries personal cash cows.

Scott L   July 30th, 2008 8:49 pm ET

At least McCain is calling him out with his own mouth. Obama just has his puppets talk for him...weak.

Willow, from Iowa   July 30th, 2008 8:48 pm ET

While I respect Obama for attempting to make this a campaign focused on the issues, McCain is going to be just as negative for the next 98 days. I'd like to see Obama push back a little bit. Although he will probably take the high road.

McCain thinks like the typical neo cons, that we are too stupid to decide for ourselves, they must decide for us in our own best interest. McCain keeps saying the same things over and over again, hoping that sooner or later, we'll believe it.

RJ, CA   July 30th, 2008 8:48 pm ET

Funny how Libs like to quote McCain "gaffes." Here are a few Obama "gaffes":

- In May 2008, Obama indicated he could see dead people when he said: “On this Memorial Day as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes, and I see many of them in the audience here today . . . "
- In June 2008, Obama falsely claimed his father served In World War II.
- On May 13, Obama mistakenly said that Arabic translators deployed to Iraq were needed in Afghanistan, when Afghans don't even speak Arabic.
- On May 9, Obama claimed to have visited 57 states.
- On March 29, Obama said he did not want his daughters to be "Punished With A Baby."
- In May 2008, Obama confused Iran with Israel, saying that U.S. should "Act Forcefully And Appropriately On Any Attack Against Iran, Nuclear Or Otherwise"
- In February 2008, Obama said he was running for "Commander Of Chief"
- In October 2007, Obama said he would tell Iran "You Should Develop A Nuclear Weapon"
- In September 2007, Obama referred to 120 degree heat In Iraq as 20 degree heat:
- In May 2008, Obama claimed his uncle helped liberate Auschwitz.
- Obama falsely claims his parents got together "Because Of What Happened In Selma," Alabama In 1965 - four years after he was born.
- In June 2008, Obama referred to an "inhaler" as a "breathalyzer" and then a "inhalator" – twice.
- In September 2006, Obama said that there were 18 years between 1978 and 2006.

All really silly stuff on both sides . . . but the Obamabots only focus on those by McCain. Pitiful!

Well, Benjamin (Repub), SD...haven't you heard McCain's newest weekly "message?" Today, he unveiled his "Country First!" sound byte.

Let's see how much traction this one gets before it's abandoned for something else (something a little flashier or "in the moment")!

I also like how McCain's "Celeb" ad puts our presidential vote to us as a choice between a celebrity or "an American hero." I get that he's implying that Obama is just a famous face, but just who is the hero in this contest? Certainly NOT McCain. He may "know how to win a war," but it seems to me a rather difficult task to take on from a POW camp.

mike   July 30th, 2008 8:45 pm ET

About time. Now lets go on the offensive against McSame and tell everybody he is an old grouch.

Glenn   July 30th, 2008 8:44 pm ET

Why would John McCain try to use Britney Spears, that standard bearer for good clean American living, to denigrate Barack Obama? In an interview of Britney Spears by Tucker Carlson of CNN on Wednesday, September 3, 2003, Britney tells of how ‘she has faith in our president and every decision he makes, and that we should just support him’. Why would John McCain do this to someone with whom he stood shoulder-to-shoulder in their blind support of Bush’s Iraq blunder?

Heard Enough   July 30th, 2008 8:44 pm ET

First, they tried to label Obama as "unpatriotic" because he didn't wear a lapel pin like John. Next they tried to label him as "arrogant", which is Republican-speak for "uppidity", as in a black man who won't stay where he belongs. Now, they're trying to label him as "blond"...

Wouldn't you think if there was ANYTHING good to say about McCain, that the Republicans would be advertising that instead of this "name calling" they've resorted to?

I'm not sure which scares me more – the Republican's desperation to continue King George's monarchy, or the number of idiots willing to accept this childish behavior from someone who wants to "lead" America...

Zuq   July 30th, 2008 8:40 pm ET

Let's be real. Does McCain think we would compare Barack to Paris and Brit? Wow, he is out of tune. I wish McCain would tell us how he plans on balancing the budget in 4 years while fighting the world and not having a clear plan on the economy. The economy is horrible John Bush McCain. Of course, you don't know that. But we the American people all know someone who has been laid off recently. That's the economy we live in today. We need change to survive! That's why all of these polls are wrong. WE WILL VOTE AND WE WILL VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA. Jeb Bush can't stop us.

McCain is pretty old school - now he's grasping at straws to knock Obama down - pitiful man.

Joe   July 30th, 2008 8:37 pm ET

This really is politics at its worst. But what should we expect from the Republicans? Remember, these are the people who ran the infamous "Playboy mansion/call me" ad against a Black Democratic candidate in the Tennessee Senate race two years ago. Unfortunately, those who are controlling the GOP have little to say constructively about the issues most Americans are concerned about. What does this ad say about the GOP strategy? That is why they have to engage in gutter politics.

In the interest of credibility, keep in mind, that the GOP has controlled the White House for 8 years and that is how we got to $4 gas. And John McCain has been the leading congressional proponent of a cap-and-trade carbon bill that would tax electricity.

If Americans want politics and Washington to change, then we have to stand up and say that enough is enough.

Say no to fear vote and give hope a chance.

JoeBloe   July 30th, 2008 8:35 pm ET

Kansas Republican:

So obviously you are upset about McCain whining when Obama got a lot of media coverage overseas? And you have to be upset that McCain changes his mind every day and then denies ever saying what was caught on tape? I know for sure you are livid that McCain said he would run a clean campaign ON THE ISSUES but now has decided the only way to possibly win, is to attack anything that comes out of Obama's mouth, even when McCain himself agrees some of them are good ideas. I will also join you in your outrage over McCain's outright lies regarding Obama.
What a president he would make! (sarcasm)

John McCain is more like John McKerry. Actually comparing him to John Kerry is mean to Kerry. At least Kerry didn't change on a position and then back again all in one week! I understand changing your mind. Everyone changes their mind sometimes, but to say one thing and then reverse yourself 1 or 2 days later... and then back AGAIN, just screams political opportunist!

tony   July 30th, 2008 8:34 pm ET

This is sad. First McCain called Obama's health care plan "Hillarycare." Then he compared Obama to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. I thought this is going to be a "respectful campaign focused on issues," as McCain once said. What has happened to the straight-talking McCain?

tom, valley forge, PA   July 30th, 2008 8:34 pm ET

Yes the picture makes McCain look older but do you think the seniors didn't take notice? Seems to me they vote more consistently then any other block. I wonder if they took offense. .. Ludicrous! Obama is the quintessential politician. The arrogant, obfuscating Obama wouldn't even visit troops abroad without his press entourage. If it isn't politically expedient, don't expect to hear from Obama.

Senator McCain is an American hero ready to be president with all the experience, gravitas, wisdom, knowledge, judgment and common sense necessary for the job! :)

Oops McCain did it again, for a man who has been in politics for the past 30years I can see McCain cannot resist his nature, the nature of Washington style of running campaigns.

It was expected, we all knew that it was bound to happen, so much for running as clean campaign. Well I guess McCain is right, he is the one with the experience, experience of dirty smearing campaigning

The Lorax   July 30th, 2008 8:28 pm ET

Take his licks without crying? This is the race for president of the United States not some elementary school play ground.

Funny he should use Paris Hilton and Briney Spears. They and their families are doubtlessly voting for McCain . Spears family are white souther baptists from Louisiana who do you think they've been voting for all these years? The Hiltons are old money billionaires do you really think they would vote for someone who supports labor unions and higher taxes on the wealthy?
McCain is ridiculous.

deji   July 30th, 2008 8:28 pm ET

i think McCain is lacking ideas...

tom, valley forge, PA   July 30th, 2008 8:27 pm ET

Obama has no new ideas, rather he offers to repeat failed policies of previous tax and spend liberals and socialists. If the country is so eager for "change", then why can't he pull away in the polls? Even Dukakis had a larger lead at this point. Obviously it is too early to know for certain but, despite the hype and cult of persanality, I believe he will crash and burn in November leaving many pundits and media types again wondering, "Why?"

Dan, MA   July 30th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

Obama does think of himself as a rock star, he seems to love the adoring crowds. He told fellow democrats this week, he's our hope, what arrogance. He never says anything of substance, just happy talk, talk that his actions never mirror. He should get a job in Hollywood, he might be qualified for that.

Big D   July 30th, 2008 8:19 pm ET

Fabulous response! It's so refreshing to see consistently positive messages from a campaign like Obama's. And it's so desperate to see negative ads like McCain's (seriously? Previously, I have had great respect for McCain because he did not indulge in dirty political campaign tactics as did his opponent George W Bush when he defeated McCain in the 2000 primary election. Lately his ads have insenuated untruths and near slander statements. It is a sad day when a person previously held in high esteem by both parties has sunk to such levels.
I'm sure his new staff person Smith is behind these muck racking strategies. Is Smith vying to be the new CarI Rove – the spinner of smut? I regret that McCain allows this type of attacks. Sad for America - the mighty has fallen.

I saw part of this McCain ad on "fair, balanced" FoxNews today while sitting in a doctor's office. What's the point of calling Obama "the biggest celebrity in the world"? He probably is, and how is calling attention to it going to benefit McCain? It's only going to highlight how much more people are interested in Obama than they are in McCain. Believe me, McCain would be happy as a pig in you-know-what to be half as celebrated as Obama is.

I sure am tired of these negative attacks by the Republicans. That is all they know how to do-scare people. They aren't going to win this time. It is better to vote for better judgement then that type of experience. It is time to get rid of that stupid war that is costing billions each month and wrecking our economy. BOB DOLE BOB DOLE BOB DOLE BOB DOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All McCain needs is the stage fall, and the pencil.

Eli Winter   July 30th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

Yes good response but still Obama needs to stay humble – state that he has to fight for evry vote and work hard. I am a supporter but lately he seems to think its about him.
Remember – humble and confident and not taking anythig for granted.

joe   July 30th, 2008 8:05 pm ET

READ MY LIPS: Yes... John McCain Senator Barack Obama is ready, willing and able TO LEAD.

Eric in Chicago   July 30th, 2008 8:05 pm ET

McCain's ad doesn't even deserve a response. These are the types of things that a weak candidate has to do to even the odds. He's grabbing at straws. Enough said, let's stick to the issues. Off-shore oil drilling is years from producing relief. The gas tax holiday was a horrible idea.

Has it crossed the mind of any McCain supporters that Obama's popularity is at least partly due to the fact that he's an eloquent speaker, clear thinker and seemingly hard working American?

I think it's fair to judge Obama on his policies, but the name calling and labeling is just ignorant and foolish.

ex-Republican for Obama   July 30th, 2008 8:05 pm ET

McCain offers only criticism, repeated false personal attacks against Obama and campaign ads that lie about Obama. Where is the man of honor that he claims to be? Where are the positive statements about what he will do as president to turn this country around?

Jaime in Texas   July 30th, 2008 8:04 pm ET

And Obama's practicing old and dirty Chicago politics.

Kyle Indianapolis, Indiana   July 30th, 2008 8:04 pm ET

Kansas Republican,

It's not crying when you set the record straight. It's called honesty, We need more of it.

Lynette   July 30th, 2008 8:02 pm ET

The Obama campaign's response to the lastest nasty McCain ad is good, but it does not strike back at the McCain campaign as hard as I would like.

Paul C. Palmetto Bay, FL   July 30th, 2008 8:02 pm ET

The Republicans are nothing if not predictable. These tactics worked twice so they can be excused if they try again. It will be interesting if the American voter can focus long enough to know that McCain accomplished nothing in the 25 years he has been in the Senate so I question if he will address the dozens of promises he says he will accomplish as President.
He promises to stop ear marks but did he mention it in his 25 years of experience?
He promises to end the Iraq war but has he made any effort in the 6 years it has been going on except to say 'stay the course" .. "Success is just around the corner".

Matt, Manchester, CT   July 30th, 2008 8:02 pm ET

Obama definitely doesn't know the first thing about playing the game of politics. All you loser Obama zombies better convince him to get a thicker skin if he's going to even remotely get through this campaign season. If he thinks it's bad now, just wait till September.

Trent Dillard   July 30th, 2008 8:02 pm ET

I wonder if they had that ad in waiting knowing full well that McCain would at some point dip his hand into Rove-&-Bush's Bag of Hate and Fear!

Trent DiGangi   July 30th, 2008 8:01 pm ET

Man, the McCain camp is already soo desperate. Read these words carefully. John McCain has ZERO chance...Unless the slime machine tries to steal a 3rd election.

TerryDo--PumaPac-40+   July 30th, 2008 8:00 pm ET

Better Same Old Politics than Change just for the sake of Change.

Change a word that can mean anything and nothing . Instead of trying to denigrade McCain why doesn't Obama speak about the change he refers to.

Because the only change we see Obama talking about are all of Hillary R. Clinton ideas, solutions and policies.
That is a form of change, change your non-issues policies for Clinton's.
That is the change we believe you accomplished.

You are a made man Obama, made from the research and propaganda from Axelrod and Plouffe company. You, Obama are their experiment and it will self-implode very shortly.

Obama will never be acknowleded as the legitimate democratic nominee.

It looks as though Obama is stuck on the 49th percentile and that is not change, it is stagnation

Joe   July 30th, 2008 8:00 pm ET

The Republican slime machine is starting to crank it out. This year it will fail because McCain is inspiring to no one.

You Are So Jealous and A Liar and show very poor judgement in running these ads. You Make Our Politics here in America appear
sophomoric!

Chris from NY   July 30th, 2008 7:59 pm ET

That's all knows how to do. Attack, attack, attack, drill, drill, drill. He doesn't have any new iniative for the welfare of the American people. What an old bag of ideas.

Mike Getzin   July 30th, 2008 7:59 pm ET

The comments left by McCain indicate the same dirty Republican attack dog tactics which should alert any Anerican about the dishonesty of this Party after 8 years of corruption that has destroyed this country. McCain stands for the same dishonesty and supports the corporations that have ruined the economy with outsourcing of US jobs, supports illegal immigration reform? , wants to continue the mess in Iraq, and disregards the public rage over the mess and lost stature the US has suffered under Bush, who is supporting him for President..... Obama, even with his perceived inexperience and views is a breath of fresh air in a monoxized political environment, and I'd rather see a positive potential change than another fall into a black hole we cannot survive under another Republican- frankly the whole partty should be replaced.

Chris   July 30th, 2008 7:59 pm ET

Pathetic... While it is not surprising that McCain is using the mud slinging rhetoric that many under-dogs desperately cling to, but it is especially sad that he has to use images of troubled young women, such as Britney Spears, in his attack. Perhaps if he returned to some of his past political substance and stopped trying to parallel Obama with a rock star, people would listen. As it is now, it is simply sad and pathetic, I think many expected more from Senator McCain...

deroy   July 30th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

obama has yet to shown why he should be taken seriously as a leader. he should go work as a governor or hold a responsible job first.
being a community organizer and state legislator does not prepare you for an executive position. he's strictly another chicago pol on the make.

Susan from Scotts Valley, CA   July 30th, 2008 7:56 pm ET

Kansas Repubilcan – "Without Sarcasm?" Have you been watching your candidate? He sits there and smiles this scary smile as he attacks Obama right and left.

And did you watch Obama with the leaders he sat down with last week? He DID look presidential. I am so hopeful that I can finally be proud of my President again.

McCain on the other hand looks pitiful and scary. I do have to admit that's a tough combination to pull off.

Obama doth protest too much. He should know that we the people can see through all these slams, scams and artificial presidential trips to the world-wide stage. Same with McCain's ads. Just because something is OLD doesn't make it obsolete. If O would shut his mouth, nobody would remember the Britney/Paris parallel beyond today. However, it will surely now go into the weekend.

Obama did oppose the war from the begining and this one reason is enough to vote for Obama,

Keeping it real   July 30th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

If he doesn't want to be seen this way then he shouldn't have put himself out there this way in the first place. I love McCain's ad for the fact that it's real. Obama got noticed first through social networks and then through chanting. He did that himself, he played the popularity card, no one did it to him.

bj   July 30th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

I love the add about Obama. Looks pretty close to the truth to me. Just another empty headed starlet (or star) that tthinks only about themselves and will do or say anything they want to make themselves look good. Obama is every bit as shallow as the celebs he's depicted with.

John   July 30th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

Go John MCCAIN!

Desmond Sequeira   July 30th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

Mr. McCain, I still refer to you as "Mister". But from showing a semblance of decency, you have been steadily declining..... from pathetic to more and more pathetic. The fact that you are resorting to sheer nastiness is a clear admission that you cannot be president except by appealing to the basest sentiments of human nature. And, sadly there is no shortage of that in the USA. After all, is that not how Bush got into office – twice? And now you want to be McSame/Bush?

Ryan   July 30th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

Mclame is obviously targeting the least informed voters i.e off-shore, drilling, gas tax holiday and baseless attacks. Same crap from the Karl Rove playbook. I'm hoping the Americans have wised up enough to not fall for these rediculous tactics again but unfortunetely it doesn't seem that way for many people.

Michael Whitehead   July 30th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

McCain's latest ad strongly reaffirms his lack of direction. He has nothing left he can argue so he has to go negative. The American people will see John McCain for what he actually is - an old man who can offer nothing new for America. His policies and proposals are joined at the hip to the Bush policies and proposals - and look at what the last eight years of those policies have done to us.
We don't buy it anymore, John. Start talking about your own ideas for change in America. Be positive, don't keep going negative. At least that way, in November, when you lose to Obama, you will be able to hold your head high.

John Air Force Vet   July 30th, 2008 7:51 pm ET

Old politics-Old man-Old brain. Just plain too old for the job.

Aunt   July 30th, 2008 7:50 pm ET

I can't berlieve how quiet CNN has been about the McCain Obama Attacks. Sen. McCain is acting Like A child.
Isn't Weird That CNN doesn't even have the video.

If Obama was caring on like this for 2 weeks, The CNN blogs would be crazy.

nola   July 30th, 2008 7:50 pm ET

Thanks – about time to come back and hit him hard. I cannot believe that McCain has stumped this low that he cannot do ads that address his position of the issues that people wants answer for. By doing the type of negative ads that he has been doing anti Obama lets everyone know that he has no idea how and why to address them.

Arrogant – Obama is a mere kid in comparison to McCain. McCain an old arrogant man that feels that just to be in his present is an honor for the people. He is so arrogant that he could not be seen with a wife that had any physical problems – so he divorce his first wife and married a woman 20+ years younger – so he could be perceived as a desireable catch. GIVE ME OBAMA any day.

Mary   July 30th, 2008 7:50 pm ET

So Obama is still playing the "victim" role whenever someone compares him or his policies (kind of like he did with Hillary). I don't consider it a "negative" ad when candidates compare their policies. How else are people going to know where these candidates stand.

After all the flip flops from the primaries, it looks like several of Obama's policies are the same as John McCain's (who has always been a Maverick centrist). I have to say that I prefer McCain's energy plan, though (he thinks we will need to drill for oil, build nuclear plants, and develop clean coal burning facilities, along with our "green" sources of wind, solar, and geothermal to become totally energy independent). I agree we need to be using all sources. Obama thinks we can get along with only the "green" sources, but I don't think that is a reality.

I've also noticed that Obama does not seem to have a plan to reduce the national debt, although McCain feels that we must be prepared to do so, unless we want to leave the burden to our grand-children and great-grand-children.

For those who like to criticize Cindy McCain for the drug problem she had (due to a car accident back injury), this problem was short term and she did go to rehab. I don't hear McCain deriding Obama for his cocaine habit, so people should get over this. Also, Ms. McCain has been a philanthropist for years, working with ONE and Doctor's Without Borders. She seems to be a shy person and has never asked to be in the spotlight because of her charity work. She has also never asked for a dime in government grants, as all the money has been her own. She also adopted a baby of color before it was "fashionable" to do so (like with Madonna and Angela Jolie). I don't know what Michelle Obama has done, but if she had given half as much time to charity work, then I'm sure we would have heard about it by now (along with photo ops and film clips).

Jackie   July 30th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

Interesting how Obama launches a negative ad to complain about McCain's negative ads. They're both guilty of it!

pc   July 30th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

McCain is no different than Bush – a CROOK! America wake up!! McCain is totally jealous of Obama and the only thing he can do is try to destroy him! McCain this will back fire! You'll see!

Eco   July 30th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

I like McCain but he is 8 years too late. I am a republican but to vote in a man who is over 70 years old is nuts. How many US 500 companies have CEO over 70. Or would you be happy to be in a jumbo jet flying across the pacific with a captain that is that old, regardless of experience. There is a reason why retirement is 65 years. Why is it that a lot of my Republican mates are looking forward to McCain. Is the US of A not bigger than the largest 500 company? What jumbo jet is larger than the good old USA. Right now I am leaning towards Obama because of McCain’s age. Chronological age gives him the advantage. I wish Romney was elected to be the nominee. In America, the buck ends with the president. Think about this folks.

David, Silver Spring, MD   July 30th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

McCain insults us all by treating us like morons. Worse, he treats our democracy as something to be manipulated and mauled for his own personal gain.

McCain would rather destroy our country than lose this election.

barry   July 30th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Barack 'n Roller   July 30th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

Is this an attempt to appeal to the younger voters? Because if it is, it's pretty pathetic. Paris and Britney are sooooooo last year. If he wanted to go after the young'uns, he should've compared Obama to Heidi Montag and Kim Kardashian. Oh wait, Heidi has already "endorse" McCain, so he should have no problem courting the idiot vote.

Karen-phoenix   July 30th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

I'm a 64 year old republican and after this administration will not vote republican. NOW I'm soooo ashamed of the republican party, their ads, their scare tackticks and everything they are doing. Obama is trying to run a clean election, above board and without scare tackticks but the truth and what will get us OUT of the mess Bush got us into. Go Obama!! Peace is patriotic!

Obama: spoiled little rich boy. If he doesn't like what McCain says, he claims it's racism, or bigotry, or "old politics"... anything else than admit the truth: he's a no-experience senator full of everything you want to hear, but nothing to back it up with. Reminds me of a used-car salesman...

ERIC, MN   July 30th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

Does anybody even take McCain seriously anymore? I think all of his credibility has gone right out the window. You would think that someone with all of his experience would actually be able to talk about some of his own ideas, instead of only criticizing Obama's ideas. Maybe the MSM should start asking McCain what he's for, not just what he's against.

OLD MAN YELLS AT CLOUD!!!

Javier   July 30th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

Typical Republican strategy; run a negative campaign, use personal attacks agains thier opponents, bring up wedge issues, create fear, lie and deceive the American public. This is because they could never win by running an honest campaign based on the real important issues that affect Americans everyday. Unfortunately, many Americans buy into their crap. Bush was elected a second term.

Once again, NObama and his camp show what try cry babies they are. If you're going to run for the office of POTUS, do us all a favor and grow a thicker skin and quit complaining when people point out your weaknesses. NObama and his folks continue to act as if they live in some fairytale land and aren't supposed to be held to the same standards as everyone else.

At least Bill and Hilary Clinton can take a joke or a stab at them without getting all childish and pointing fingers. NObama is a total joke.

dgordon   July 30th, 2008 7:41 pm ET

It's good to see a response, but the American public has been brainwashed pretty severely. Its up to us to communicate to our own circles that the republicans have destroyed this country and are now resorting to their only alternative of attacking. We've got to get everyone to turn off the Fox propaganda machine and start thinking for themselves. We can do this if enough of us are committed. But it's not going to happen by itself. Help out, tell someone!

I am a 60 year old voter and would have voted for McCain in 2000 but he lost all my respect when he kissed the Right Wing and Bush, particularly after the rumors the RNC spread about him having an illigimate black baby. Talk about doing ANYTHING to get elected. I am really excited that I have lived through the racially charged years during the 50's and 60's and our realization of the ideals of equality might finally be partially realized with the election of an African-American as President

Huffington post is showing how charlie Crist does not agree with McCain's attack ads.

Aditi   July 30th, 2008 7:40 pm ET

Cannot belive that ad. McCain is such a looser... He has some cheek to compare Obama with the likes of Brtiney and Paris, especially given the IQ and basic common sense points he definately has over McCain. God save this country if we elect someone this pathetic to lead us. Wish we could send him home right now, than listen to such garbage in the coming months.

Prior to now I had some respect for his military record, now he is proving hmself worse than Bush, who atleast had the savvy to come up with better attack ads.

Venus   July 30th, 2008 7:40 pm ET

It's about time Obama!

McSame's camp is pathic! An ad with Obama and two white women?

Why not black women or men?

Matt   July 30th, 2008 7:40 pm ET

McCain is just using what worked so well for Republicans for so long; smear and innuendo. Wake up McCain, It's 2008 not 1998. Most Americans are on to you, and SICK of it.

bob in LA   July 30th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

Obama shold not respond to these trite ads. the fact is If Mccain and his staff believe he is as popular, then he should fold his wheelchair and go back to Arizona becuase Britney's fan base is bigger than any politicians.

Glenn   July 30th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

Alright CNN, now will you air Obama's ad (for free) as often as you aired McCain's?

This is McCain's most ridiculous cry for attention yet, but it gives CNN the opportunity to "report" about the news it cares most about: celebrity gossip. If only McCain had released an ad comparing Obama to Anna Nicole Smith.... That would have generated at least two months of cable news coverage.

The McCain campaign is pathetic, and CNN, do yourself a favor and stop being complicit.

Robert in Seattle   July 30th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

Repeating the mistakes of the past, at least this time we have an agent of change to challenge the GOP. It is time for Republicans to ask themselves if their party really stands for what the believe, or are they going to follow blindly along yet again, straight to the slaughter.

What happened to the McCain promise to not do negative attack ads? Flipped on that as well I guess.

WeBoDave   July 30th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

I liked Obama's comment today when he said McCain's ads have nothing positive to say about the Senator himself just criticism of Senator Obama. The campaign's paid criticisms of Obama are generally untrue and could be considered more true of McCain than Obama especially when they said Obama is not for energy independence and that Obama does not support Veterans. Look in the mirror John McCain.

Tim from Eugene OR.   July 30th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

I think Obama has countered McCains negative ads with a great counter punch. It is not smearing McCain, yet it is factual. I wonder when I read these blog comments by some people what is it that makes people so easily swayed to think that four more years of these same divide American people experts is a good thing. If all we were voting for was for the one who gets to replace the aging Supreme Court judges, then the choice is clear.

Waldo Parchment Sr.   July 30th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

Let me state that I am not a USA American, but of the Americas, thus I would like to make a statement regarding the current campaign for President of the USA.

Comment/s:
I find that it seems a policy of the Republicans/Republican Party to constantly campaign, not on a rivals weakness, but try to (and like in the past years) win because of painting the the other person as a liar or not trustworthy. Mr McCain is constantly gripeing and whining about some-thing and tries anything to avert attention from his rival Obama, instead of forging ahead with his plans and or proposals.

One more penny's worth is that I do not understand how the Republicans can always come out and state in no uncertain circumstance that they are the only ones that can keep America safe from Terrorists etc. Are they the only people that graduated from the College of Terror or what? I personally think that it is time for the Democrats to stand toe to toe with them on ths subject, because it is my belief that they made a mess of going to war in Irac and changed the lives of the people in the Caribbean basin, at least; It made travelling and cost of living, driving importing goods from the USA very difficult and as I said costly.

I believe that Obama will or should win because he has the right idea of having personal talks with the nations involved and not the automatic threat of WAR, War drives a wedge between other nations that did not even take part in it. WAR cost a lot of money, a lot of your taxpayers money that should be spent at home. If I were an American I would not vote for a Republican, at least not in 2000 or 2008.

Thanks for the privalege

The Rethuglicans and the Bush Crime Family want to destroy the oceans, Alaska and the environment with pushing more use of fossil fuels. All you have to do is go to any large city in the US and everyone is gagging from all the air pollution. Just look at all the dirty air we breathe everyday. The brown dirty air is worse then 2nd hand cigarette smoke.

The oil companies have a strangle hold on the government and its environmental polices. I choose clean air over lower gas prices any day of the week.

What is amazing to me is that McCain has some of the same Rove-ites on his staff that perpetrated Bush's telephone "push-poll" against MCain in South Carolina in 2000!

For those who are not aware of this well-known fact – they called 10s of thousands of people and posed as tele-pollsters, asking something to this affect – "Does it bother you that John McCain has fathered an illegitamte black child?" This not so veiled reference was to McCain's naturally dark-skinned adopted Bangladeshi son.

It was heinous but highly-effective and it was the death knell for McCain's campaign – which delivered W to the White House (notwithstanding Florida...)

That was the moment that McCain should have responded as Obama has done here. Had he done so, he might have been President already. The fact that he didn't, showed his trade-off of courage for membership to the Bush bandwagon. He is still suffering from that one "error in judgment". Go-bama...

Jerry, Florida   July 30th, 2008 7:31 pm ET

Of course Senator Obama, his campaign and his bleeding heart, misguided supporters are going to strike back at Senator McCain’s ad. What choices do they have? The truth is, I myself, am not looking for a celebrity as my president. Other than his celebrity status and Teflon cover, Senator Obama just does not cut it as presidential material.

Senator Obama's supporter can call Senator McCain what ever they want, as well as insult his wife and supporters, however, he's a true American hero. Not an empty rhetorical suit. If Senator Obama was really a Democratic leader, he would ask his misguided campaigners and supporters to show some respect for Senator McCain and especially to his wife. After all, it’s the true Democratic way!

Yet, the Senator and his campaign and supporters will crucify any voter that dares to disagree with them. Threats and intimidation works only on some voters, not on all of us.

Did I mention I am a life-long Democrat?

Greg, MN   July 30th, 2008 7:30 pm ET

I think McCain should be careful about what he wishes for. He has been complaining about the media coverage toward Obama, but with all the coverage about Obama, they have not covered all of his gaffes. So if the media does start covering him more, they will then complain about them covering all of his gaffes.

Are we ready for him??? Darn right we are! In fact, we're counting the days. You better get ready for him, too.

None of the Republican's petty digs, none of the innuendo or insult or fault finding, makes a dent on public opinion. This is especially true since it is all negative, all the time. Nothing constructive or useful.

As a concerned Canadian neighbour, I've watched your country go down the toilet these past 7 years and I've heard the derision and disdain expressed about your supremely arrogant and stupid current president.
How on earth can Americans not leap at the chance to elect someone like Obama, intelligent, thoughtful, positive, full of ideas and inspiring to the rest of the world. You'd be idiots (again) to elect another Republican warmongering, wealth pandering, hate filled attack dog old geezer like McCain.

"Oil rose more than $4 a barrel on Wednesday after U.S. government data showed an unexpected drop in gasoline stocks as suppliers facing weak consumer demand cut production and imports."

Well, there it is, folks. We slow down and drive less, the inventory of gasoline increases, prices drop, and the refineries cut production. That in turn bumps the price of oil, which in turn will drive prices up.

WHERE'S THE OUTRAGE??! And where are the Republicans who should be investigating this blatant price manipulation? Oh, that's right: They, and McCain, are in the pockets of the oil barons.

Noelle, MD   July 30th, 2008 7:22 pm ET

@Kansas Republican: rather than being petty and partisan, let's be real for a second, here. Instead of thinking of "Obummer" as a "victim," how about you think of those ads as some bully talking trash in the school yard. And you know what bully's eventually get? A pop in the head and put in their place. That's what happened with these rebuttal ads.

By the way, KR, I'm in the middle of this whole blue-red state mess. I think both guys are genuinely good. I'm just not approving of the BS tactics the GOP is using right now. We got real problems to deal with in this country - and name calling isn't solving anything.

Anne   July 30th, 2008 7:21 pm ET

The glib media responses from Obama and/or his campaign are getting to sound identical with "the same old politics". He can't take a hit without a counter attack that is an outright lie (i.e. Paris Hilton). You know Hillary is looking bettter every day while Obama whines. Where is Cafferty when you need him? Jack's next question will be: Why does McCain keep sounding like the same old politics? Yeah for CNN's yellow journalism.

Retired Veteran from New York City   July 30th, 2008 7:21 pm ET

This is right on. The McCain's camp don't even have a clue about this election, they continued to used the same old tactic about the opponent and this year it will backfire big time.

I can understand the philosophy of the Republican campaign, when you have nothing to offer you got to concentrate on the opponent to deviate the weak minded people to look the other way. The same old Washington tricks will not work anymore.

It is in my view a total disgrace to compare a U.S Senator to Whitney Spears and Paris Hilton, it is an insult and it is a shame for the Republican to get down so low just to show their displeasure with Obama. My question to Mc. Cain is: How could a Maverick Senator like McCain, has been in the Senate for 100 years and let a Junior Senator like Obama make him look so silly and stupid?

Valerie, MN   July 30th, 2008 7:20 pm ET

Linda   July 30th, 2008 7:20 pm ET

This is a little on the negative side too.

How about both getting to the issues that matter to the voters. The economy, gas prices, poor wages and medical cover.

The world trip did nothing for the voters unless all of Germany is voting in the elections. This educational trip should have been done before running in the primary to ensure the nominee was ready for leadership. As far as I am concerned he still is not ready.

Steve   July 30th, 2008 7:20 pm ET

Obama has run a dirty campaign from day one. He lied about Hillary why should we expect him to change now. For a campaign of change the only thing he has changed is all the promises he's made. Oh yeah and his plans on Iraq. It's funny how the press forgets that half of his own party didn't support him. Remember Hillary's 18 million votes?

Truth   July 30th, 2008 7:19 pm ET

Kansas Republican,

You may not even be aware of it, but saying "playing the victim" and saying BOs "friends" Farrakhan, Jackson and Rangel, all of whom are African American, shows racialized thinking in your mind that is negative towards African Americans. It is that kind of thinking that I believe is keeping the polls relatively close.

First, BO has repeatedly repudiated Farrakhan, has spoken of responsibility in the African American community unlike Jackson–who wanted to "cut BO's n..ts off" for talking about responsibility, and has in not way buddied up to Rangel. So how are these three people his friends? Only because their African American? And BOs add in response in no way accuses McCain of attacking BO racially, so why do you think BO's add is "playing victim," particulary in a racial way?

Sir, your response shows racial ignorance at best, and racism at worst. I urge you for the future of this country to try to think in a more open minded way.

To Kansaa Republican:

If anyone should "take their licks" it should be Surgent McSurge. He needs to get out of the gutter, or can he do that given his past history of failed politics and lying in it with his millionaire wife he cheated with while his first wife was suffering in pain from a terrible car accident, as she lay at home and listened to tails of his cheating!!! The end to that saga is he divorced his first wife for Cindy McSurge shortly after he returned from the military! Senator Obama is not being sarcastic as you claim, what he is doing is running the honorable and respectful campaign they both promised to do at the beginng of the general election. And, as Senator Obama stated earlier today, McCain can't think of anything positive to say about himself, all lhe does it talk about Senator Obama. Why? Because he knows if he talks about Senator Obama, he'll get noticed by the media, and, he has nothing to say positive about himself because he hasn't done anything!

It seems to me, and everyone listening or reading this can pick up on the fact that McSurge is very jealous and envious of Senator Obama's successful overseas trip, and instead of "manning up" and saying he's jealous and felt left out because no one was paying him the slighest bit of attention while he posed in the cheese aisle, and looked for some cheese to go with that whine of his, he not only uses his ads to attack Senator Obama, but he's at the same time for those of you who didn't catch it, attempting to attack and smear Britney Spears and Paris Hilton!! What did those two celebrities ever do to him, except perhaps get more publicity than him........Senator Obama is the better candidate and the better candidate deserves more attention. Senator Obama is more like the old ad about E.F. Hutton – When Senator Obama speaks, people listen!!!!

"Same old politics" is that the best the Obama campaign can come up with? Sounds like a broken record to me. This may not be the Kerry's campaign and they may be ready, prepared and quick to respond to whatever the GOP throws at them but you know what? They seem to be getting Kerrys same old numbers at the polls. Not good. Obama can't even get a 10% lead over some old fart who just recovered from Cancer treatments? Sad sad sad.

The flying circus tour didn't do anything for him other than to reinforce his status as an arrogant, presumptuous, rock star with gimmicky speeches and nothing to back it up with.

i mean come on mcsame and the rejects i mean republicans are looking very weak at the moment i mean for real are these type of attacks all they think of ? they belittle him for being a well like world figure (you would think its a good thing for the president aka the most powerful man on the planet to be well liked abroad) they say he is getting all this "great " media coverage but he is getting mostly negative air time with the media and mcsame is getting by fair mostly positive media coverage . they say he " snubbed" the troops in germany but mccains voting record shows he voted against 9 bills that would have improved life for wounded vets, ed benefits, housing etc, so who really snubbed the troops? he argues about the surge working, ofcourse it had a good effect anytime we put that many american troops anywhere in the world they are going to kick but , but at the same time what is this " victory " that mcsame is talking about this war has dragged on for too long, too many american lives have been lost, and its killing our economy and to think we should have never been their (just like sen obama said go figure) . and lets not forget that mcsame is jumping on the bandwagon on sen obamas ideas ie more troops in afghanastan, the " timetable" of troop withdrawl. so the rep have been throwning all this negative crap and nothing sticks but they would much rather sling mud and not have it stick than talk about issues... go figure

I am so disappointed in McCain. I always respected him, even when I didn't agree with his politics. What happened to his promise to run a clean campaign. He seems to have no ideas except to tear down Obama. If Obama wasn't such a gentleman he could trash McCain on so many issues, such as his meeting with 'president Putin of Germany', his repeatedly talking about a country that hasn't existed for 15 years, his confusion about who's fighting who in Iraq, etc, etc, etc. If Obama had made any one of those mistakes, they'd have crucified him.

Kansas Republican: Really?? Responding to an unfair attack is not "presidential"? I have a funny feeling that if Obama just took "his licks," as you say, and did nothing, folks like you would be hooting and hollering with glee, and egging on the McCain camp to follow up with more and more such shots.

It really amazed me during the primaries and debates, this labelling of Obama as "thin-skinned" whenever he would point out that a particular question or criticism was inappropriate or irrelevant.

And, by the way, nice thinly disguised racism: I think recent weeks have shown that Obama is no "victim" and no "friend" of Jackson, Farrakhan, etc., at least in the way you imply–that Obama is typical of the older generation of African-American politicians whose stock and trade (as the charge goes) is playing off white liberal guilt. Obama has demonstrated he is not willing to pander to any group, and has earned Jackson's testicular threats to prove that.

Regarding old politics. Let's look at Obama, he is behind all kind of OLD politicians to support him, he is behind all kind of OLD/large businesses and investers to support him, and he is behind to all kind of OLD/large and media to advertise him. Senator Obama can change the appearance of OLD politics but the core is still there, he is just a great (well trained) "SPEAKER" for them. We will vote for a President, not for a speaker.

BTW, please do not change the name of other people. Senator McCaine, NOT McSame. I think CNN should not post comments that address to wrong names

Obama can "take" his licks.... WHEN THE AREN'T NASTY, UNFOUNDED, NON-REALITY-BASED, STRAIGHT-OUT-LYING, SMEARS...

So maybe Mc-walking-cane could appear presidential by actually presenting a plan for something besides how NEXT to attack Obama.

jimtranr in Oregon   July 30th, 2008 7:14 pm ET

The sad reality is that–all the maverick talk and image hype to the contrary–both John McCain and Barack Obama are "old politics" types. Both have done what it takes to get to where they are as presidential candidates, and some of that doing isn't pretty–McCain making nice with Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, Obama backpedaling on FISA and public campaign financing. And that's just to name a few recent examples of the same-old, same-old games these guys have played throughout their careers.

A pox on both of 'em.

Yinka   July 30th, 2008 7:13 pm ET

Senator McCain is a hypocrite and a flip-flop in every respect. He dared Senator Obama to travel to Iraq, and then criticises him for the success of the trip. He ridiculed Obama's 16-months time-table to leave Iraq, but has now embraced the same thing now that Iraq's Prime Minister likes the 16-month time-table and President Bush supports it.

Senator McCain can never be trusted, and does not deserve to be voted to be President

APS in Hawaii   July 30th, 2008 7:12 pm ET

Here we go again, some garbage from Obama as in the primary. He can say anything he wants and the news media will protect him. McCain is right, what plan does Obama have for America? His style of campaigning is old already. Oprah is probably banking this ad too. If Obama plans on winning, he better start putting out plans. This response rubs Hillary supporters the wrong way and reminds us of how the press is going to protect their cookies and milk candidate. I understand what the McCain ads are saying, "Where's the beef?"

Dirty politics are fine for Republican'ts but a no-no for Democrats? Republican'ts WROTE THE BOOK on playing dirty.

Uhhh...Mr. McCain. These tactics worked for Bush twice. We will NOT be fooled again.

I'm still waiting for your first non-attack ad. You know, the one where you explain why we should vote FOR you and not AGAINST the other guy.

I believe that America is too smart to vote for John McCain.

Sick of Republican Tactics!   July 30th, 2008 7:11 pm ET

Excuse me Mr. "Kansas Republican", but don't you remember how all you Republicans starting crying because General Wesley Clark made a very accurate opinion on why being a pilot who was shot down and captured as a prisoner of war (from a failed war in Vietnam) doesn't make him qualifed to be president of the U.S.?

McCain isn't just pointing out anything valid about Obama, he's spreading lies and negatively manipulating the facts because he can't convince voters with his same old failed (Bush) policies!

Obama isn't crying, he's making a valid point that we shouldn't concentrate on the same old way of doing politics...lie, lie, lie about your rival. He want's to campaign on what he would do different and better, not just tear down the other person with twisted lies and propaganda!

Josh   July 30th, 2008 7:11 pm ET

John McCain is a clone of the failed Bush/Republican era. Their chapter in American history is towards the end and our nation is ready for the wonderful epilogue. If this nation has trepidation about Obama as president, they are completely blind to what a McCain administration would bring.

Obama's elegant and professional rebuttal to McCain's ad should prove to everyone how he can act with grace, respect and logic in his approach to domestic and foreign policy. The US is waiting for Obama to take office, its almost a waste of time to give McCain the time of day.

sjp   July 30th, 2008 7:10 pm ET

by the way, anybody else notice that its republicans (bush, mccain, romney) pressing for off shore drilling that will pour more money into the pockets of oil big wigs, while not saving us americans a dime. obama is also 100% correct here, its time to wean ourselves and country off of oil, unless of course you want to stay dependant on big oil.

Catherine   July 30th, 2008 7:10 pm ET

John McCain has nothing to run on. He is parroting Bush's failed policies and is too befuddled and confused to even remember what he has supported or been against in the past. We don't need a man who can't remember his own votes and positions in control of the WH. John McCain is dangerous, and he's terrified America will realize that he's too temperamental and confused to run for President, so he smears Obama every chance he gets.

The risky choice is McCain – he's not fit to be President. 8 years ago I would have considered voting for him. Today? He's too angry, too petulant and too confused to be anywhere near a position of power in this country. And he knows it – that is why he attacks Obama with baseless, sophomoric childishness. McCain used to be better than this. It's a shame he didn't quit while he still had honor.

mike   July 30th, 2008 7:09 pm ET

this shows that McCain's transformation is almost complete. say anything, say it often and loud as hell. because there are plenty of people who just want 'talking points". you see them on the blogs, they lunge at this stuff. They want talking points they can use in polite company.

The Republican Party under the rule of George Bush and Dick Cheney will say anything to get the American people to believe that opening enviromentally sensitive land will bring down gas prices.

The real plan is to get as much land freed up for the big oil companies before George Bush and Dick Cheney leave office.

So what the latest polls are saying is that we have a bunch of naive Americans willing to believe the lies coming from the Republcan party. Haven't they fooled us enough? How much more of beating can we take?

Obama 2008!   July 30th, 2008 7:06 pm ET

John McCain has nothing to offer as a candidate for president, except for the promise of continuing the Republican policies that lead to the major downward trend of the past eight years.

This most recent attack on Obama is proof that McCain has nothing of value to offer the American people. Attacking Obama's "celebrity"? LOL! Somebody's jealous! John McCain's advertisement asks "Is [Obama] ready to lead?" I think the answer is obviously "YES"! Look at the success of Obama's campaign - overcoming racial obstacles, and winning over many people who might have otherwise voted for Hillary Clinton. Look at the reception the rest of the world has give Obama! Polls indicate that 75% of Europeans prefer Obama to McCain. World leaders like Obama! America needs to be liked by the rest of the world; our future depends upon our relationship with other countries.

McCain said, "Sen. Obama doesn't have the strength to speak openly and directly about he will address the serious challenges that confront America. How will he be strong enough to really change Washington?" I think it is fair to say that John McCain is being disingenuous or is lying. Obama has proven his strength time and time again, talking about important subjects that most people are afraid to broach; things that are actually part of our daily lives, such as health care, the economy, and our society. It took guts to make the speeches Obama made to let people know what he thought about race, religion, and patriotism; McCain would never have the courage to tell us what he thinks about such things. Here's the best part: Obama has, from the beginning of his campaign, expressed his belief that America should talk with our (so-called) "enemies" just as we have open communications with our allies - whereas McCain took the outdated weakling point of view that we should simply take our ball and go home and try to ignore any animosity. LOL! Yeah, that takes strength, McCain! The truth is that Obama's the guy with courage and strength; Obama's the one who will face problems and work to solve them rather than hide and hope they go away.

Smiley from Conyers   July 30th, 2008 7:06 pm ET

Fair Game, Obama!
Why don't you get that?

He exploits the media for exposure (to get elected) and it is working for him. He came out of nowhere and achieved all this.
And most people are impressed.

Years ago I remember reading in Vanity Fair about Paris and her kid sister hanging out with celebrities back when it had to be explained that their 'connection' was Hilton Hotel heiress-hood. They were everywhere! The VF contributor wondered what they hoped to gain from all the exposure.
Well, time answered that question.

So, yes, there is a valid and brilliant comparison here.

I really don't want the Candidates to be too Nice to Each Other.
They are competing for one of the most powerful jobs on the Globe and I want to see how they handle things when the Heat is On.

1. Everybody who is NOT a snob senses that something is not exactly O.K. with that so called "New Politician".
I see him like my doughier: tells me exactly what I would like to hear.

I think that Guy and his gang had studied the social behaviour in USA long before had started the elections and they simply manipulate us very effectively!
Simply: DO NOT TRUST HIM!!!!

2. No offence, but am I correct that OBAMA is very much supported and loved by HOMOSEXUALS?

/ Not because I do not respect them as human beings/

3. His color is NOT my concern but his attitude : HE IS ARROGANT!
e.g. Is it appropriate a future President to chew a gum walking as a peacock at front of the cameras?

4. If he is "sooo gifted" and almost genius, what he had done for 45 years before the beginning of that election?

YO LO GO   July 30th, 2008 6:52 pm ET

Oh, so he DIDN'T flip-flop?
Thanks for clearing this up Obama?
Hat tip...
??????????????????????

J-Syxx   July 30th, 2008 6:52 pm ET

What this ad says is true. I was will to almost buy McCain's words that he wouldn't go dumpster diving like the Bush campaign and other disingenuous Republicons, but I've been proven wrong.

Tigga   July 30th, 2008 6:51 pm ET

For a man that said he will run an honourable campaign, John McCain has again showed that with all of these false, laughable and honestly stupid ads, that he has nothing to run on. This man is really confused and can probably run an old peoples' home better but not the white house.
Very unfortunate.

Morgan   July 30th, 2008 6:51 pm ET

I'm glad the Obama campaign is right on top of McCain's "swift-boating."

Bob   July 30th, 2008 6:51 pm ET

Obama if you cant take the heat get out of the kitchen. You socialists are all the same. Promise everybody everything when in fact you only plan to raise my taxes on everthing from a to z. You are an empty suit. You have no substance, you have no experience and you scare me with your terrorist friends and anti-american clergy.

Independents for Obama   July 30th, 2008 6:51 pm ET

I love it!!! Way to go Obama!!!! Stick it to McBush!!! Hit him hard!!!! He even sounds like Bush. "No new taxes" before and not "Well everything is on the table" He is such a joke.

RyanD.   July 30th, 2008 6:51 pm ET

Get em!

McCain hasn't went more than 5 minutes without talking down on Obama in over 2 weeks. He is obsessed.

Obama 08'

Bob   July 30th, 2008 6:50 pm ET

"these Obama people are ready, prepared, and quick to respond to the Republican attack machine. I love it"

Ready and prepared with what? An ad hominem for an ad hominem?

Sounds like two kids playing in the sand.

And whatever happened to Obama 'taking politics away' from "negativism" and "attack ads"? Sounds like the same old politics and same old policies over and over again.

What a shame.

ChicagoJosh   July 30th, 2008 6:50 pm ET

Good job Obama! Don't let them swift boat you!! Hopefully over the last 8 years, the U.S. voter will learn that it helps to actually think before voting. All those people who fell for the swift boats before wish they could have thier votes back. This time they'll know better!!!

Denise Groves   July 30th, 2008 6:50 pm ET

Get 'em Obama!!!!!

McGrumpy is mad as hell that : 1 he is losing, 2, he isjealous of Obama's popularity, 3 he is angry because Obama did not fall flat on his face after Obama accepted his challenged has been acting like a lunatic.

ClintonDems4Cynthia08   July 30th, 2008 6:50 pm ET

Thats right. Both are "business as usual". We've got Urkel in a nice suit and some old man. Vote Green 2008. Cynthia McKinney.

Eileen from Maine   July 30th, 2008 6:50 pm ET

that 's odd. Mccains ads get round the clock free air time and a video link on the media websites.

I guess it is more important to make sure McCains messages get out.

Even though he, himself has been a celebrity since he got shot down and has been the media darling from when he first started running for president 10 years ago.

I guess all those bit bbq invites to the media out to his mansion ranch in Arizona with all the servants really got you obligated for good.

christine   July 30th, 2008 6:50 pm ET

mccain has gone negative with the help of MSNBC that cable network does not report anything about mccain they are always looking for what obama says and run with that on their network, i think they are so desparate ratings but that will turn people away and the good part of this is you can go on the internet and get your news these cable networks might end not having viewers at all people will be going on the inernet because they are so negative and they look for gotcha politics i am so disappointed in mccain that is not the mccain from 2000 this one is so desparate

BRANDON ERIC COSTON JOHNSON   July 30th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

WAY TO GO OBAMA!!!!!! -B.

Ricky, Dallas   July 30th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

It's about time Senator Obama put some dust into the eye of the repubs. Comoooon, why can't people see the light when it shines? Obama has been quite consistent on most of the issues. He was WIDELY accepted during his trip last week. McCain had promised a respectful campaign but is now acting desperate. He needs to hold on to his horses before the last bearing he's drops off. I am hugely disappointed in his actions.

Morgan   July 30th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

The McCain ad has dangerous undertones and that needs to be addressed. The image of huge crowds of Germans with the monument in the background while monotoned chants of "Obama" sound is meant to evoke a Hitler rally. The choice of the two young blond celebrities is also quite intentional to contrast the young blonds with the "scary" celebrity black man. Both young women have had explicit images in circulation. Spears was photographed "flashing" a photographer, showing her genitals sans- underwear and Hilton had a video circulate of her having sex. So this new ad isn't just pathetic old McCain- can't run a campaign. This ad is targeting racist anxieties and you can bet it will have an impact on some voters.

R   July 30th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

Is a negative ad about a negative ad still a negative ad?
Seems like Obama is willing to use the "same old politics" too.
All Politicians are hypocrits, I just hope everyone else sees that.

Krissy   July 30th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

I used to think McCain had integrity, even though I didn't like his policy ideas. Now I know better.

Peace   July 30th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

That's right expose McCain. LOL!

Ryan, IN   July 30th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

McCain used to be respectable. No more. It's a shame.

Bob   July 30th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

*yawn* Same old, same old from Obama. Criticize the criticism instead of answering it.

Bravo, signore.

PanamaSooner   July 30th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

Good for Barack. McCain is going down fast and these last ads show it.

Am I the only one that thinks McCain might be as dumb as W? He seems "way out there" at times...almost lost.

Bryan   July 30th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

Spot on.

McCain, more than Obama even, has continually said he plans to run a "different" campaign focused on issues and without personal attacks, yet he has failed to do any of those things.

Obama, on the other hand, has rarely gone negative. And when he does, it almost always an issue-based argument.

Leapfrog   July 30th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

Nuthin' new under the sun, but let's hope Obama's popularity translates into him being able to get things done in Washington when he gets elected.

Ray   July 30th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

CNN YOU SUCK!!

You will not post unless it's cudos to FASHION OBAMA

Jim   July 30th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

This is an excellent rejoinder to McCain's ridiculous ad. I applaud Obama's campaign for its effective and quick response.

McCain's negative advertising actually reveals three things about him:

1) insecurity / jealousy (of Obama's greater popularity).
2) misogyny (yes, Ms. Hilton and Ms. Spears are women too and deserve some respect).
3) desperation (highly negative ads signal a campaign in trouble).

Ray   July 30th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

Hey LET OBAMA talk, LET HIM WIN after all he is just a seed sent from a bigger picture to destroy america and it is no body's fault but WHITES (you know the ones that are at fault for everything). THIS EVIL MAN JUST MIGHT BE WHAT THIS COUNTRY NEEDS to WAKE PEOPLE UP…..

GO OBAMA!!!

VP::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::I AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do it yourself   July 30th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

Oh the past...

Like earlier this spring when you attacked the Clintons daily...

Your a tool Obama... it will be fun to watch you sink...

Nobama... Noway

Ray   July 30th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

VP – RIGHT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ralph tyler   July 30th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

McCain has nothing to offer the American people except this crap?

Clinton/McCain   July 30th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

You'd have to be brain dead if you didn't realize that Obama is a 'TYPICAL WASHINGTON POLITICIAN' and his campaign uses 'SAME OLD POLITICS' all the time. I know. I witnessed them use it against Clinton.

sjp   July 30th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

and obama's retort is 100% correct. the only thing mccain has going is fooling americans into believing that off shore drilling is gonna make for $2 gas again. sorry mccain but america has grown tired of negative attacks and relying on oil.

Voter   July 30th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

Oops. Now we've gone and offended the self-crowned KING. And he is such a delicate flower that he rushed to produce a "reply" the very same day.

What a guy! And that rap star-Obama is pretending to be "horrified," of course. The company you keep, Barry....

The problem is that the McCain is dead on! All of you should look at Mr. Millbank's column in today's Washington Post.

"I'm not a real president, but I play one on tv."

It worked to sell toothpaste...

Ralph   July 30th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

Good for Obama. Kerry lost because he waited a month before responding to the swift boat attacks. Obama needs to fight back no matter how lame those attacks seem.

Nando, Florida   July 30th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

GO OBAMA PUT JOE BIDEN ON OLD GRANDPA AND STAY ABOVE THE BS LIKE YOU DID TO HILLARY !!!!!!!!!!

Vig   July 30th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

Didn't Obama's campaign come out with the same self-righteous pomposity when Clinton went aggressive? This is so childish. It's back to sticks and stones will break my bones – sometimes Obama is so prissy.

John Kaleto   July 30th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

And thus begins the "McCain is too old" attack campaign from the neophyte politician promoting change and claiming to take the high road.

Jon   July 30th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

It's about time Obama started fighting back. McShame and his negitive adds have been going on for weeks. I was once a republican but the white sheet wearing right changed me. McCain was once a good man and now has changed to fit the right. Say anyting even if you know it's not true.

Clinton/McCain   July 30th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

You'd have to be brain dead if you didn't realize that Obama is a TYPICAL WASHINGTON POLITICIAN'

Leah DiMarco, Texas   July 30th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

Great ad!

You go get em' Senator Obama!

Obama '08

Dave, Illinois   July 30th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

Obama accusing McCain of Politics of the past? What a hypocrite! The empty suit just came back from his fieldtrip in Europe after trying to mimick Reagan and JFK in Germany, acting like a sitting president, and repeating the mistakes of the past by not listening to the commanding general in the Middle East. Obama's arrogant snear breaks out whenever he sends his little Obamites out to smear McCain's age, health, and military service.

VP   July 30th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

Hey LET OBAMA talk, LET HIM WIN after all he is just a seed sent from a bigger picture to destroy america and it is no body's fault but WHITES (you know the ones that are at fault for everything). THIS EVIL MAN JUST MIGHT BE WHAT THIS COUNTRY NEEDS to WAKE PEOPLE UP.....

GO OBAMA!!!

Sarah   July 30th, 2008 6:44 pm ET

I hope to see the media start to hold McCain accountable for stomping all over his promise to run a civil campaign. Imagine the uproar if Obama ran an add comparing McCain to Grandpa Simpson... a much more apt comparison than any that McCain has made about Obama.

G   July 30th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

McCane, go take your nap. You clearly need your rest.

sheck   July 30th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

where's the link to the ad?

therealist   July 30th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

Yeah sure Obama, like your straw scarecrow is any different. Americans may be stupid but we're not blind..., sorry.

Rachel   July 30th, 2008 6:42 pm ET

Sigggh, that's Obama's response to everything same old politics. I wonder if the terroists actually strike in the us again, will Obama response as president be same old terroists.

kim hussein taylor portland, oregon   July 30th, 2008 6:42 pm ET

"John McCain. Same old politics, same failed policies," SOOO TRUE!!!!

mcmess has to take the low road, first of all b/c he's a neoCON repug and that's what they do. but also b/c he cant run on the issues for two main reasons--he doesnt have enough knowledge to discuss them and b/c he supports the FAILED policies of a FAILED administration, which the vast majority of americans completely disagree with.

Gary of El Centro, Ca   July 30th, 2008 6:42 pm ET

This is not the Kerry campaign.......these Obama people are ready, prepared, and quick to respond to the Republican attack machine. I love it.......and that picture of McCain in the response ad makes him look 100 years old. Kudos to the Obama team!

SGP   July 30th, 2008 6:42 pm ET

It is hard to believe the standard of politics of this country has come down to this level.

Canadian black man for Obama.   July 30th, 2008 6:41 pm ET

Once a man twice a child>This is Senator McCain second childish behavour. McCain is now behaving like a child with his ad attacks.

To compare a fello senator popularity as a celeb without real contrast with the celebrities in question, is very childish.

When will McCainflip flop goind to learn?

McCain Clinton 08   July 30th, 2008 6:41 pm ET

hehehehe, OLD!

Charla in NE Texas   July 30th, 2008 6:41 pm ET

Just like my mother-in-law.....McWhine does nothing but whine and complain, and never has anything positive or constructive to contribute.

McCain 08   July 30th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

We don't need Hillary or her screaming women supporters to when this race. Go home and back some cookies.

McCain 08,12

MarkieBee   July 30th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

McSame's Swiftboat attack ad was out for what, five hours, before the Obama camp responded with a smackdown of their own. I like it. Obama is so much better than Kerry and he came close to beating Bush. So McSame has no chance...that's why he has to attack instead of highlighting his successes and plans for the future – which he doesn't have. In light of the banking scandals, I think a great ad would be to rhetorically ask viewers which number was McCain in the Keating 5 scandal of the 1980s – 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5.

seah5 Ohio   July 30th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

Poor Poor Obama

McCain is a better man than Obama could ever be.

McCain would be a better President than Obama ever could dream of.

Obama only knows how to smear and run a dirty campaign, he learned well in chicago.

Obama still stutters and stammers when as direct questions about his own policies. Showing he is merely a speech and knows nothing about doing anything, and does not care. He will need his staff under his bed to keep him scripted and informed when needed.

Obama is Mr Hollywood, More interested in his image, than in running the country properly. He is vain, arrogant and a elitest.

Obama will be a figure head of the government, the speaker the orator. while nancy pelosi and the DNC run the government, since he knows nothing and will be busy checking the mirrors for his image.

The Dragon   July 30th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

Obama's base "The Press" is mad at the truth.

Sherry, Atlanta   July 30th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

This is the Republician Base...why change now!

Shawn   July 30th, 2008 6:39 pm ET

McSame rides again!

ACT UP! FIGHT BACK!   July 30th, 2008 6:38 pm ET

I hate negative campaign ads, no matter who launches them. But right now, I think it's the only way to respond. If McStupid wants to waste his piddly campaign dollars on childish, baseless ads intended to try and beat his opponant down, then I say BRING IT ON! But he better be prepared when Obama pulls out the big guns.!

The Republican Conscience   July 30th, 2008 6:38 pm ET

Emphasis on "strange OLD politics".

MNcombatVetforobama   July 30th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

I'm deeply disapointed in Mccain-He once displayed dignity and integrity, but has made a Faustian pack with a Rove like devil to get elected. If the country falls for this turnaround, then shame on us

Former Republican for Obama   July 30th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

I'm voting for Obama.

McCain Lied.   July 30th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

An immature, juvenile part of me wants Obama to treat McCain the way he's treated Obama – attacking his character, slinging mud and making insinuations that he hopes will stick with the public. Some of that garbage does stick, after all.

But then I realize that the RIGHT thing to do is continue speaking about policies, issues, and how he plans to fix our broken nation. In the end, good will triumph over bad.

Benjamin (Republican), San Diego   July 30th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

"Amen" to that! Great response to McCain's ads/campaign with no direction.

I really DO NOT understand that even after making changes in his (McCain) campaign management, they still have YET had a direction or a clear message. So far, they've only proven that they're great at whinning and playing dirty... :-|

Barry all the way!

Lesley   July 30th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

It's about time!!!!!!!

Not An Idiot   July 30th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

Nice!!!!!!!!!

But Obama you need to be swifter

This will sure backfire on Mc Cain ... LOL

justin, georgia   July 30th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

I hope this is played 3 million times like mccain's ad was!! I mean dang!! old lies!!

EDW   July 30th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

QUICK WITH IT.
McCain is weak and tired.

California Gold   July 30th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

Nothing false or misleading about that ad.

Brian   July 30th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

Old politics would not survive this time. You know, divide and conqour!

GG   July 30th, 2008 6:35 pm ET

where is the clip, would love to listen to it!

Brendan H., San Antonio, TX   July 30th, 2008 6:35 pm ET

Senator McCain, when does your wife, the heiress, release her tax statements?!

You know, like everybody else has?!

Brandon Hillary PUMA 4Mc   July 30th, 2008 6:35 pm ET

I love it stating the blant truth that the media does not want to cover is the same old politics. No the same old politics is moving your self to the center to appeal to moderates you didnt need in the primaries but do now hussein obama.

Dont let the obama kool aide drinking media do to Mc Cain what they did to Hillary.
No Double Standards. Each candidate should be accountible for their postions and records or lack there of.....

Andy   July 30th, 2008 6:35 pm ET

They should make the word "old" larger.

Bobby, Triangle, VA   July 30th, 2008 6:34 pm ET
