Obama camp launches response ad to 'Celeb'

A new Obama ad hits back at McCain.
A new Obama ad hits back at McCain.

(CNN) - Barack Obama's campaign launched a new television ad Wednesday night declaring John McCain has taken the "low road" over the course of the presidential campaign - a direct response to the Arizona senator's television spot released earlier in the day likening Obama to celebrities Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.

"He’s practicing the politics of the past," the ad's narrator says as headlines from various medial outlets stating McCain has gone negative flash across the screen.

"John McCain. Same old politics, same failed policies," the ad's narrator also says.

Earlier: McCain camp links Obama to big celebs

McCain's ad, released earlier Wednesday declares Obama "the biggest celebrity in the world," while flashing images of both Hilton and Spears.

"But is he ready to lead? With gas prices soaring, Barack Obama says no to offshore drilling and says he'll raise taxes on electricity. Higher taxes, more foreign oil - that's the real Obama," the ad's narrator says while crowds screaming, "Obama!" are shown.

The McCain ad is the latest in a string of hard-hitting television commercials from the McCain campaign. Earlier spots suggest Obama is playing politics with the Iraq war, is against funding American troops and bears some of the responsibility for high gas prices.

UPDATE: Tucker Bounds, spokesman for the McCain campaign, released the following statement in response to the Obama campaign's new "Low Road" ad: "Pointing out your opponent’s worldwide celebrity is not the ‘low road,' and neither is pointing out that he opposes oil drilling and supports higher taxes.”

McCain better be careful. When you use the likeness of a celebrity w/o their written consent, you can be sued!!! He will have the Hiltons after him for every penny his campaign has!!! What were his advisors thinking??

Brandon, here's a news flash for ya, it wasn't the media who ruined Hil-LIAR-y she did it to HERSELF!!!

P.S. Shouldn't you be contributing to your messiah to get her failed campaign out of debt rather than here spouting your irrelevant gibberish.

McCain may win. I mean, it's not good to get to ahead of yourself. There are voters out there who are angry and afraid. That is not a good combination for November.

Obama should be tough, but chill a little.

"Oil rose more than $4 a barrel on Wednesday after U.S. government data showed an unexpected drop in gasoline stocks as suppliers facing weak consumer demand cut production and imports."

Well, there it is, folks. We slow down and drive less, the inventory of gasoline increases, prices drop, and the refineries cut production. That in turn bumps the price of oil, which in turn will drive prices up.

WHERE'S THE OUTRAGE??! And where are the Republicans who should be investigating this blatant price manipulation? Oh, that's right: They, and McCain, are in the pockets of the oil barons.

So true....John McCain said he didnt want a smear campaign but thats just what he has done.
Hes not a man of his word.
Why is it that the republicans always attack the candidate their running against?
They misconstrue what one says and attack attack attack.....Not very christian if you ask me....And they always use their religion as a means to get votes.....but dont act christ like in the process.
More like a wolf in sheeps clothing.
McCain feels he needs to try to make the Obama look bad to make himself look better.

The truth always comes to light...........Obama is the bright star.

Good for John–about time someone called this guy on his qualifications–Obama and surrogates have smeared McCain from the start–I, for one, am glad he is fighting back! This is not a nation of rich people –we identify with someone who wants to keep America great–not tear it down like Obama! McCain 2008

John McCain has offered no policies or solutions to earn this presidency. He has spent all of his precious time attacking Obama and speaking at town hall meetings of hand picked audiences. He is simply unoriginal, uninspiring and unintelligent. How on earth could people want this guy for president.
As a concerned Canadian neighbour, I've watched your country go down the toilet these past 7 years and I've heard the derision and disdain expressed about your supremely arrogant and stupid current president.
How on earth can Americans not leap at the chance to elect someone like Obama, intelligent, thoughtful, positive, full of ideas and inspiring to the rest of the world. You'd be idiots (again) to elect another Republican warmongering, wealth pandering, hate filled attack dog old geezer like McCain.

Most people would like an opportunity to wear expensive shoes like an elitist McBush..

I'm tired of my our friends dying over seas
I'm tired of not being able to afford anything

As a voter that sits squarely in the middle of the two parties I think it is finally time for this county to change. You figure it out.

Wake up, Team McCain! This campaign run is pathetic at best. Instead of a smear tactic, tell us what you plan to do to help the people of the U.S. get through our tough economic times, our failing healthcase system, our decline in job due to Globalization by Corporations, to name a few. Smearing your the other guy is buying you anything. People want to hear what you have to offer, or just get out.
