The Obama campaign is criticizing Ludacris' new song.

(CNN) – Barack Obama's campaign sharply condemned rapper Ludacris Wednesday over his new song celebrating the Illinois senator's presidential bid while referring to Hillary Clinton by an offensive remark.

The song, called "Politics: Obama Is Here," was released earlier in the day and refers to the New York senator as an "irrelevant b***h." Ludacris, whose real name is Chris Bridges, also takes aim at John McCain in the song, saying the Arizona senator "don't belong in ANY chair unless he's paralyzed."

The song, which largely celebrates the rise of Obama on the national political scene, also criticizes the Rev. Jesse Jackson and President Bush.

Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said Ludacris should be "ashamed of these lyrics."

"As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and degrading images that he doesn’t want his daughters or any children exposed to," Burton said. "This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend Jackson, Senator McCain, and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear. While Ludacris is a talented individual he should be ashamed of these lyrics."

Obama has praised Ludacris in the past and the two men sat down privately in 2006 together to discuss ways to empower youth.

For once I actually agree with Obama. The way some black people are taking Obama's candidacy is ludicrous. He isn't some brotha off the streets. He's a well educated BIRACIAL man. They don't really like pointing that out, do they?

Cherokee   July 30th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

I agree. Ludacris should be ashamed. We must protect our children from this type of music and the people who think there's nothing wrong with it. This is ludicrous.

Mslola   July 30th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

Ludacris does not speak for Senator Obama nor does he speak for me. Shame on you Ludacris, you should know better.

As an independent, I am very impressed with this fine example of
Senator Obama's judgement. It is very clear that he doesn't need no
stinking experience as his judgement is obvisously even better than
that of the Almighty.

Kevin   July 30th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

I suppose this is another performer who a year ago Obama would have been clapping along with but now will be dumped along with all the other things he really likes.

He should thick to rapping and leave politics alone. Ludacris,
get out the way of politics because don't know what are saying.
run for office and you will get talk about. Help your community and
stay back.

vw   July 30th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

That is a typical old politics, ask "representative" to play dirty tricks on his opponent and then condemned it…Obama is good at this trick or else he cannot become a senator and a president candidate

hrsc   July 30th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

I will thank you for Luda, all the air time and media attention is making his bank accounts larger as people run out to see what your discussing.Young people love this by the way. The media wants to be able to make all the money and say anything that will sell. Why shouldn't Ludacris enjoy the current environment where everyone that can are making money off of our political system.
Stats show that the largest buyer of rap music are increasingly young white americans, go figure. And since he is an employee of the white owned media company's they are okay with this. Cover real news he's producing what they want on the shelves.

Here's a story for you that people in my circles are talking about all the money, influence peddling, lobbiest ties, are much more important Sen. McCain has sat on this board for a very long time (International Republican Institute ) This worries us..

Ludacris is just a wrap artist, he might say anything. These words are very offensive, just the usual wrapper. He needs to move on with his filthy mouth. Everyone is comming out of the closet.

Voter   July 30th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

What baloney. Obama LOVES this rap piece!

It keeps the connection with his "roots." That way, while playing King for a Day, he doesn't lose his base.

He wants his base to be right in the middle of everything. This is Obama "walking the walk."

Four years of this? Please.

Sharon   July 30th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

I would love to see who Obama and Michelle socialize with on a daily basis. Right now I'm not very impressed with the ones I've heard of to date. Rev. Wright, Jesse Jackson, Ludacris, and those who helped him get into politics in Chicago, etc. Of course leave it to Roland Martin to protect and defend Obama. If he gets cornered he always starts quoting from the bible.

A Nightingale Sings in Berkley Square   July 30th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

Is this the change we can expect from the Obama supporters? It's a change that I don't like at all. Why dis Hillary when she whipped Obama's butt in the coasts and in the mid west and New York. Yeah I know Obama won Idaho but so did Larry Craig.

I hear the obam is threatening the life of American Hero John McCain? I just read a blog that said obamba was challenging John to a duel. obamba just can't help himself with his mega ego personality can he?

Barry also said he is related to Wild Bill, George Bush, Dick Cheney and a King of England and a host of others to probably include Osama himself. He just can't help himself. He is risky and I don't trust him.

bam may not be a Muslim, but he is no stranger in the Muslim Church.

He will raise your taxes and "dis" your values.

You didn't condemn this stuff in the beginning Sen. Obama, that is the reason it is out of control with the youth, their lack of knowledge and hatred toward Sen. Clinton who has a good reputation on dealing with Children and working families issues. The only reputation you have among many Clinton supporters is that you were willing to tear a good woman's reputation down in order to win, in fact you allowed the media to tear all women down to bolster your support.

Terri, Dallas   July 30th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

I agree with the Obama camp. Ludacris should be ashamed of himself. Yet another trying to capitalize at Obama's expense.

IL voter   July 30th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Ludacris SHOULD be ashamed. Taking the "low road" by making personal attacks is not what the Obama campaign is about. It is all well and good to have faith in and admiration for a candidate. Why not write lyrics that celebrate this admiration? He chose instead to write about his hatred for those that disagree with his candidate of choice. By doing so, he has given fodder to the McCain camp, the PUMA/pac, and anyone that still has any fear of Obama based on ethnicity. Bad move, Ludacris.

Monica, Texas   July 30th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

Ludahow does this help obama get into the white house where he can benifit everyone the most. In these coming days, we have to know what can be said and how. FUBU means for us by us. Well these day we need to also that same word can be FUHU. For Us Harm Us.

Robert   July 30th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Why would the filth that some random rapper comes up with be any fault of Obama's. This fool didn't do his "favorite" candidate any favors, that's for sure. Maybe he is trying to hurt Obama's campaign? – I doubt it, but unless he is strikingly dumb, he's got to know that is what he just did.

Or…. maybe this could be a Sista Solja moment for Obama – we'll see how it all plays out.

Just a little humor what is the problem? He is a rapper and that is what they do. He is just making a hiphop 527.
It does not matter what you do they are looking for a reason not to vote for Obama. Hang in there because they are just getting started. Those people are wicked and vile like snakes. They are going to play the you are not one of them cards and every other racist card that they have. We black people are dreaming, those good white people would not do a thing like that is what they love to say. The CNN special Black In America was not true, all of that racist stuff just don't go on they say. My father, brother and I are all veterans but it doesn't matter because if I don't see something that I don't like in the country that I swore to defend they like to tell me to go back to a place that I have never been. We black folks just won't let go of the past because it is a new day they like to say. Well guess what people racism is alive and well in America. Obama could be in Washington for 30yrs and they still would not know him good enough.
Where were they when Mrs. Obama racist roommate from New Orleans asked for another room because she didn't want to room with a black girl. White folks are not racist. It is all in our minds. Obama and the rest of us are dreaming if we think that a black man can move into the White house. That would really be a new day in America.
Obama08 a dream

Johnin Iowa   July 30th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

Earth to America: this is how blacks think; this is how Obama thinks. Wake up before it's too late! If Obama gets in office it is over for America and all of her citizens. Tony, Enterprise, Alabama   July 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

So this is what it comes to.

If Obama wins this type of behavior by the youth of this nation will be accepted as "normal". I'm sorry, I don't get Obama or his uber-Liberal Socialist (dare I say Communist?) views.

Obama disgusts me in the same manner that Bush and his neo-Cons disgust me. But God forbid anyone should shout "The Emperor has NO Clothes" about Obama. Lifelong Civil Rights leaders are called racist if they criticise his choice of ties, yet they can call Hillary a b***h with impunity???

Ludacris and Obama are not worthy of holding Jesse Jackson's coat, or the Clinton's coats either. They are disrespecful rank amatures.

When are we as Americans going to stop letting the 15% on the far left and the 15% on the far right run this country?

Obama's campaign condemning Ludacris is too little too late, much the same as his condemnation of Rev. Wright was too little too late.

What a monumental defeat we as Democrats are headed for in November. It is going to be worse than McGovern.

Carol   July 30th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

Sounds to me like Ludacris is just seeking publicity. People all over the country, who never heard of him before, will know his name now.

How did he expect the lyrics to be received?

Mission accomplished. Any publicity is good publicity, right?

texas girl   July 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

"Irrelevant b****?" No. Irrelevant is YOU, Ludacris. I don't see you getting 18 MILLION votes for anything except maybe biggest LOSER.

Paul Sebastian   July 30th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

I haven't heard this song yet, but I'm really tired of Senator Obama's campaign's attempts to score points with moralistic Middle Americans by denigrating hip hop.

It's as if every other week, the Obama campaign needs to remind Main Street America that as President, the good junior Senator from Illinois will keep the crazy Negroes in line. It's not necessary for Senator Obama to win votes by attacking nihilistic Black male America. His Iraq War position should be enough.

If they oppose misogynistic and racist rap lyrics, why not condemn the multinational entertainment corporations who subsidize this music to advertise sex and drugs and violence to poor minority communities. Disagreeing with Ludacris without attacking the corporate executives he answers to is just a roundabout way of attacking African American male youth exclusively.

And frankly, since neither Chris Bridges nor Barack Obama's relative success will help me pay my bills, I can do without the extra condemnation.

The media is doing exactly what Ludacris wants them to do and that is give him some publicity and help to put a few bucks in his pocket. Everyone knows that controversy puts you back on the map and that's all he's doing. I'm an Obama supporter. He doesn't need this type of negativity even though it is pointing the finger at other people. It would have been more intelligent if he would have put out something positive about Obama to music, but I guess he doesn't know any better. His mind can't think that far. To Ludacris, I'd say come up with a remix to his little crap rap that's more positive. GO OBAMA!!!

Jason   July 30th, 2008 8:48 pm ET

I can't firgure out why these people just can't let Obama run his on campaign, and stay out of it. Ludacris should just stick to music, but then again maybe he did this just to boost his on music sells. REALLY LOW LUDA!

mike   July 30th, 2008 8:46 pm ET

Freakin rappers and Hollywood need to keep their mouths shut. This type of nonsense is going to turn off John Q Public in a big way.

Sabatoge from within Arrrggghhhhh

Carlos   July 30th, 2008 8:45 pm ET

Irresponsible and flat out degrading.

Dem in FL   July 30th, 2008 8:41 pm ET

"Doesn't want his children exposed to"?????????? ADULTS shouldn't even be exposed to this vitrol!

more sexism……when does it end???

BARACK………..FIND YOUR GONADS AND SPEAK OUT AGAINST THIS…DON'T SEND YOUR CRONIES TO MAKE YOUR COMMENTS.

Donna   July 30th, 2008 8:41 pm ET

Oh Ludacris..how dumb was that? you were doing so well being one of the FEW rappers that showed some sort of intelligence…and then you go and do this!!!!

David   July 30th, 2008 8:40 pm ET

Darn Luda,
Let's be clear about one thing, Barack Obama cannot control what other people say. The same goes for McCain. So lets now spin this to make the Obama camp look bad. These are individuals making bad statement inspite of the candidates.

Obama '08

pam Eugene OR   July 30th, 2008 8:39 pm ET

Please Ludacris, this does not help Barack.
We will be victorious if we are united and fail if we are not. It is just that simple.
We all know what Hillary is but it does not help Barack's position to say it or sing it.

Scott L   July 30th, 2008 8:39 pm ET

Gangsta rappas for Obama!!!

Glad that he will help Obama empower the youths!!! What an awesome role model!!!! NOT!!!!

McCain 08   July 30th, 2008 8:39 pm ET

He probably post on these CNN blogs… I hear worse stuff then that coming from left wing nuts on these blogs….

Socialist Emanuel   July 30th, 2008 8:39 pm ET

Bravo Barack!

Sick of these "artist" making their millions on the backs of our people or any people (that would include people w/whom we disagree).

This is the same (ludacris) who raps about having girls in multiple area codes and other foolishness that helps to perpetuate stigmatisms of the black community. Though some may be true, they must be reconciled to proper conduct.

This is where the line must be drawn. The line between right and wrong. Not black and white. This is a progressive campaign in every way. Including the progression of perceptions and the healing of relations.

If we think (as a black man) that (Barack) by securing the presidency validates our color, we are mistaken. He validates the righteousness of God and its ability to tap into the soul of men (Each soul being related to the divine, and thus superior to the shade of my skin in every way).

Barack-A strong family man with a background of serving communities, (not crack, cocaine or heroin as glorified by most rap "artists") and reinforcing the importance of family and responsibility.

Ludacris, I understand your pride in Barack (as a brother) but don't get it twisted… He is not the "black" candidate. He is the right eous candidate!

He is the change candidate. That change is not limited to our white brothers and sisters. And not only does it include your community and mine but it begins with it. If you know the man of whom you are so proud, his rebuke should not surprise you.

BTW It is counterproductive to disrespect Hillary or McCain. They nor their supporters have the benefit of your struggle, mine, ours.

Anonymous   July 30th, 2008 8:38 pm ET

Ludacris just wants some attention. He hasn't done anything lately so he's just starting some controversy to get noticed since he hasn't sold any records lately. This is his way to get back in the media. If the media was smart, they would just ignore him like it never happened. I'm an Obama supporter and will vote for him but he doesn't need this kind of distraction and negativity. GO OBAMA!!

RAMD   July 30th, 2008 8:37 pm ET

THIS LANGUAGE IS OUTRAGEOUS AND ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS AND UNACCEPTABLE. HOW CAN A NORMAL PERSON EVEN THINK ABOUT SUCH LYRICS…THANK YOU OBAMA FOR CONDEMNING LUDACRIS! WHO LISTENS TO OR BUYS SUCH A SONG?

Monica for Obama in Indiana   July 30th, 2008 8:36 pm ET

The truth can be offensive. The world can be offensive. But if that is the way he feels, that is the way he feels. Freedom of press and freedom of speech goes hand in hand. The question to the main issue and the main value is 'did he tell the truth?'

We need the change in Washington, if everybody in the world was the same, think how boring the world would be.

BIG WIG   July 30th, 2008 8:36 pm ET

We have to be careful as to what we are all saying and singing these days. He meant no harm. Hilliary started the song he finished it.

TheTruthHurts   July 30th, 2008 8:36 pm ET

Ludacris new that was coming. He was not pitching Obama. He's pitching his audience. Much of his audience agrees and if it has a good beat it will be played on iPods at the convention.

They'll turn it off as Hillary walks by. I don't condone it, but we know why it's happening.

dj   July 30th, 2008 8:36 pm ET

ludacris is one of the best rappers alive and if u don't like the blatent TRUTH then don't buy it. i hate when people say rap lyrics are "inappropriate" when alot of it, especially by this guy 'cris, are just the blatent truth and reality of any situation, the REAL world is not always polite, courteous, and respectful to one another

i am a young black man and i support ludacris and the song

OBAMA 08

CB2   July 30th, 2008 8:34 pm ET

Ludacris is a mess and these lyrics are utterly ridiculous. Rappers and etc. will do anything to promote their product, but why at the expense of Barack Obama. Hillary Clinton is on our team Ludacris. Wow!! This is unbelieveable.

aware   July 30th, 2008 8:33 pm ET

Wow! The pot calling the kettle black! Obama is more ludicrous than Ludacris!

Obama is the quintessential politician. The arrogant, obfuscating Obama wouldn't even visit troops abroad without his press entourage. If it isn't politically expedient, don't expect to hear from Obama. :(

Senator McCain is an American hero ready to be president with all the experience, gravitas, wisdom, knowledge, judgment and common sense necessary for the job!

This former Democrat has had it with the narcissistic Obama!

Not impressed   July 30th, 2008 8:29 pm ET

Ludacris was insulting, no role model for youth, and not helping Obama's cause. Did he think only a close circle of like-minded buddies would hear this song, and not the world? This rubbish is what perpetuates bad myths and fears about Obama as a president who is black.

Sharon from Virginia   July 30th, 2008 8:29 pm ET

How sad, Obama talk with this guy in 2006 and he still doesn't get it. STUPID!!!! What a waste of time for Mr Obama because this guy was not listening at all. I Will never buy or listen to it.

State of the Mind   July 30th, 2008 8:28 pm ET

You'll be suprised at how much the McBush is gonna try to seize this minor issue! The fact is Luda has natural talent, I do not agree that with an offensive song either, and I am a BIG Luda FAN..but the ONE fact is that there has been PRO-Old man McBush/Mcsame and Senator Clinton who has said a lot more worse about Senator Obama..but I never heard them being brave to condemn them like Obama did! Shows what KIND of PRESIDENT Obama is gonna make- FEARLESS, MAN OF CHARACTER who is NOT ashamed to reject offensive labels even if it was praising him! He is the EPITOME of what American Dream should be- EQUALITY, and Family Values! but Mcsame, bless his desperate heart :) heading south!

Ridgeway   July 30th, 2008 8:27 pm ET

These types are attracted to flashy, celeb types. Sports figures, actors, rappers, miscellaneous bad boys, etc. Rarely are they attracted to or supportive of any person of substance. Ludacris rapping in support of Hussein? Eh? I rest my case.

RJ, CA   July 30th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

So how about what Rev. Wright said? Obama never said he was "ashamed" of that. That's a lot more serious than what this rapper says — because we know he just wants to sell his stuff. Rev.' Wright's "stuff" was free-for-the-taking to "take America down."

seah5 Ohio   July 30th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

When Obama himself condemns them then you can believe it.

Obama has always enjoyed Dissing anyone he could and others doing the same.

Obama has been the evilest when it comes to campaign smear. Obama is the King of campaign smear and dirty tactics.

dj   July 30th, 2008 8:23 pm ET

that's true. He should be

rachel   July 30th, 2008 8:22 pm ET

Yeah right!! Obama probably blasts the song on his Ipod. He thinks Luda and Jay Z are down. And every Obama supporter who says its freedom of speech are hypocrites cause they would be calling for protest marches across the nation (like they did to fox) If perhaps there was a song out saying harsh things like this against Obama and perhaps saying that Michelle was a irrelevant well you know. Let the Obama supporter justify this I am sure they will figure out a way.. POST CNN.

mwm   July 30th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

not appropriate for children, but,i've seen worse on this blog.

Get Real   July 30th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

I can't wait for Lisa and the rest of the rep. buncg to start blaming Sen Obama for what some singer on his Ipod says. I wonder who Mccain listens to, and will the media look at their songs

PWill   July 30th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

Man Luda, what are you thinking? Luda's a talented rapper and he could have just stayed postive the whole song, similar to Nas's Black President track- there was no need for that McCain line or the lines about Bush…Luda should have been smarter than this. He is not a stupid person and he had a chance to really say something in this song but he chose to go childish and negative…very dissapointing and he diserves whatever repercussions that he receives.

Mike Kaplan   July 30th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

Hmmm…..a video that calls Hillary a b""h, and suggests that John McCain should be paralyzed. That's not very helpful to Obama, isn't it? Thanks for your "support", Ludacris (you idiot!)

gary   July 30th, 2008 8:11 pm ET

THATS THE CHANGE 'S OBAMA BROUGHT. HE TOOK US BACK 100YRS. OR MORE ,TO THE RACIST ISSUES. O.B. IS A BIG JOKE.

Phil Newton Murphy, Oregon   July 30th, 2008 8:10 pm ET

Obama is right.

Ludacris is ludicrous.

Herman in LA   July 30th, 2008 8:08 pm ET

I'm voting for a president and could care less about what a rapper say's

Dan, Louisiana   July 30th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

Obama is d very reason that these rap jokes shd get their acts together. I am happy he is already telling them to go read a book.

Desmond Sequeira   July 30th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

If I might say so, that is the problem with many of these rappers, etc: They tend to be very angry, insecure people so that even their way of supporting somebody ends up being nasty and hurtful to others and thereby being completely counter-productive for the very people they are trying to support! This Ludacris person would have been smart to consult the Obama campaign before producing his rap. But then, all too often, we prefer to spring our "smartness" on the world so the world will know how smart we are all on our own – and the world then thinks otherwise. Another great opportunity missed, Mr. Ludacris.

Nice try CNN trying to create controversy   July 30th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

Sure Obama praised Ludicris in the past, but it was for doing positive things. He praises positivity and scolds negativity regardless of who it is. Don't try to make it look like Obama is for everything that everybody around him is for. I agree with Mccain he does need to get more media coverage. Everything Obama and people he knows says gets scrutinized. Meanwhile things McCain says are not scrutinized at all. He is a Gaffe machine, but many people have no idea.

rachae   July 30th, 2008 8:04 pm ET

What ever happened to freedom of speech. I understand Obama is trying to walk a fine line, but why is what some rapper says worth him responding.

LLMTruth   July 30th, 2008 8:04 pm ET

I stopped listening to the rap-crap years ago. Its a useless and very demeaing form of musical expression. It often times degradates the value of a woman's role in society.

So, I'm not suprised at the language and infantile message in this rap song by Ludacris. He as well as many other rappers need to re-evaluate what exactly is their purpose in society because they basically uplift no one. Its all pretty much worthless garble from individuals who are only seeking to increase their personal weath. They should just shut up and leave real life to those of us interested in reasonable change. Not racial diatribe BS.

Sick of Republican Tactics!   July 30th, 2008 8:04 pm ET

Does anybody think McCain would have done what Obama did! Ha! He would have paid the rapper to make up more songs that belittle anyone who gets in his way!

Como se dice "Republican Tactics!"?

matt   July 30th, 2008 8:01 pm ET

I'm a fan of Ludacris. I'm an Obama supporter…but lets be honest. Who cares what Ludacris said about Hillary Clinton?

deroy   July 30th, 2008 8:01 pm ET

obama and luda are old pals.
check it out.

Loretta from California   July 30th, 2008 8:00 pm ET

This is the reason why very few people are listening to rap music these days. We are all tired of the disrespect.

DEMOCRATS UNITE!!!

NHDeb46   July 30th, 2008 8:00 pm ET

Yeah he should be ashamed (Obama that is)!! He sat in a racist church for 20 yrs and never said anything. How do you all trust him now?? I'm a democrat that will be voting for McCain and there are many many more of us!!

Peace   July 30th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

My God! Please help! Someone needs to educate some supporters to just be quiet.

richard   July 30th, 2008 7:57 pm ET

Um who is surprised by this. Hillary was continually booed and hissed during Obama events when her name came up. This is a typical supporter just like Alicia Keys claiming the government creeated gangsta rap. Had Obama been in attendance at the concert he would have been all smiles. Just like the parishoners at his church when his Rev. J. Wright said his despicable things.

M in MN   July 30th, 2008 7:57 pm ET

Ludacris should be ashamed, and kudos to Obama for condemning him for this song.

If he (Ludacris) thinks he's helping Obama with such hate, he should smarten up. He's doing the opposite.

4 THE CONSTITUTION   July 30th, 2008 7:55 pm ET

It is ludacris for CNN to give Ludicris more attention. And what's up with these people saying trash, anyway? Are they not getting the "come together message" or do they just want the attention THEY ARE getting?

Obama has to answer for everybody and their mamas   July 30th, 2008 7:55 pm ET

Ludacris was a rapper well before Obama was running for president. He is also a business man. So, I guess if Obama has to have Ludicris's rap lyrics attributed to him, then can he also claim Ludicris's executive experience? This is getting ridiculous. Meanwhile McCain does'nt have to take responsibility for his own top economic advisor calling us a nation of whiners. Oh and his campaign manager Charlie Black, hoping for an a attack on the U.S. so John Mccain Can win.

Karen-phoenix   July 30th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

Obama tells the truth about everthing! Go Obama! And I'm a republican sick to death of the republican party, its ads and its scare tackticks!

Obama is a man of integrity – If anyone is for Obama, practice what he practices and what he believes in. He is not for tearing others down, He's for building America up! This is why Obama is a better man than McCain. All McCain does is lie and try to tear Obama down, but it won't work. All you rappers out there and anyone else for Obama, THINK POSITIVE!

Go Obama!

PG   July 30th, 2008 7:50 pm ET

I must admit some of the lyrics were very offensive however Ludacris spoke on things that alot of others are scared to speak on. I do think his choice of words could have been used more wisely but it is what it is he has his own personal opinion. As far as kids listening to this PARENTS have total control over what kids watch and listen to. Im sick of some parents pointing the finger @ music or television when disipline has to come from the parents until your child is 18 yrs of age and out paying bills you have full control.

Tyre   July 30th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

No really! Is this news?

lioness99   July 30th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

Why should anything an entertainer puts forth in his lyrics have anything to do with Obama. His campaign is in no way has control over actions and comments of others.

BTW, I agree the B@@@@@ is irrelevant, no matter how the Clintons try to product place themselves in democratic politics.

Fordy   July 30th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

I agree. This is Ludacris!!!! He should be ashamed of himself.

Tyre   July 30th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

This is important?

bj   July 30th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

Obama probably helped to write the lyrics. He like to pretend that He's above the fray, but he's just another dirty chicago politician.

Mfume Bamboome   July 30th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Once again….friends of Obama are SILENT….
Except those few who can't keep their fat lips shut…
Keep it up Ludacris…
And Obama won't be in any chair in the White House either…

kim   July 30th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Bill Burton says that "Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and degrading images that he doesn’t want his daughters or any children exposed to".

Ludacris was every bit as offensive in 2006 as he is today, but Obama has praised him and "sat down privately in 2006 together to discuss ways to empower youth."

It's as politically expedient for Obama to now censure Ludacris as it was for him to "cut ties" with Rev. Wright.

Debby   July 30th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Obama sure attracks them doesn't he. hahaha

Chut Pata   July 30th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

It sad to see rap music becoming commercial and for sale. Not much different from religion becoming commercial (thanks to televangelists).

Rap was supposed to be the defiance of the downtrodden and hence was popular among all people who felt like an outcast. I remember people camping outside a store in Holland to get the latest release of 2pac.

Alexis   July 30th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

I just heard the song today and as a fan of Ludacris I knew Barack would have to respond. That being said I hope Luda comes out with a 100% postive song about Obama and going to vote.

Not McDrain   July 30th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

Mindy   July 30th, 2008 7:39 pm ET

Ms. White   July 30th, 2008 7:39 pm ET

PLAESE DO NOT GIVE THE RUPS THE AMMO TO SLAM OBAMA!!!!!!!
PRAISE HIM AND ONLY HIM

joe   July 30th, 2008 7:39 pm ET

Who did this guy think he was going to help ?Someone needs to tell Ludacris less is more !

Sherry, Atlanta   July 30th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

Ludacris my friend, if you've done anything to disrespect any person/s, please apologize. We need positive lyrics in America, especially during this time when so many of our fellow citizens are going through hardships.

Let's publish an up-lifting song that 'even the OTHER SIDE can appreciate'.

Ekuwa   July 30th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

Luda…. you IDIOT… What were you thinking, no that's just it, you weren't thinking.

Is He Serious?????   July 30th, 2008 7:35 pm ET

Ludacris should have known better – and known that there was no way Obama would appreciate his lyrics. It goes against everything he's about – from a presidential standpoint and also from the standpoint of being a father.
Even though Obama had nothing to do with this, pumas, racists, etc. will try to make it seem like such obscenity is something Obama supports.
If Ludacris' was attempting to lift Obama up and farther his cause, he failed miserably and needs to apologize.

Capt. Smash, Salt Lake City, Utah   July 30th, 2008 7:35 pm ET

This is why we need to change our public education system. This guy has no idea how to send positive message out for somones campaign. This is why I do not listen to rap, it sucks and makes our kids stupid.

CJ   July 30th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

Ludacris made a mistake here, and he may be alienating people who buy his music. I think he needs to keep rapping about drugs and sex and money, not this stuff. He can't handle it, apparently.

Ernie in LA   July 30th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

Are they brothers? He would make a great VP.

Josh   July 30th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

hip hop should be condemned…. Obama is absolutely right on this

thisisridiculous   July 30th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

If Obama was so concerned about values and making sure children are exposed to this sexist, degrading material, what was he doing listening to Ludacris in the first place?

There's no way anyone who listened to Ludacris could be suprised about the content of this latest song.

Obama wants to appeal to the young and intellectually vulnerable, so he tells them he's got Luda on his ipod.

Now, it's not so politically convenient.

Typical.

OOPS! He did it again!   July 30th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

What's even more Ludicrous is to have a story about Ludacris! He's a rapper and rappers curse, degrade and down people, anybody, they don't care who it is. Rap sells AND EVERYONE, BLACK AND WHITE BUY IT. Remember, the old "free speech" statements about the New Yorker cover that tried to degrade Senator Obama, well, this is the same thing – "Free Speech".

So, before everyone gets their draws in a knot and starts trying to blame Senator Obama for something Ludascris said on his rap album, take it up with Ludacris' record label. Senator Obama has condemned the record/cd,and has condemned all rappers that use that kind of language in their music. Those of us who don't even listen to rap condemn it also, and unless you're an idiot, DON'T BUY THE RECORD/CD, JUST TO HEAR WHAT LUDACRIS SAID, BECAUSE YOU WILL BE BUYING INTO THE VERY IDEA OF THE MONEY MAKERS OF THE RECORD LABEL, WHICH IS TO SELL RECORDS/CD's'! Ludacris is an idiot entitled to free speech; this is America isn't it?

Chuck   July 30th, 2008 7:32 pm ET

Lets stop the viagra ads during childrens programming too!!!!!!

OBAMA Supporter all the way   July 30th, 2008 7:32 pm ET

Come on Ludacris.. I'm an African American woman and can't believe you thought lyrics like this would in any way celebrate Obama.

You need to hook up with Will Smith. He's a successful rapper who knows how to respect, women, children and people of all backgrounds; and he's also an Obama Supporter.

You can do better than this.

G   July 30th, 2008 7:31 pm ET

But to the Pumas this will also be Obama's fault lol.

No Obama   July 30th, 2008 7:30 pm ET

Maybe he can sing in at the Democratic Convention. Obama and Rev. Wright can be his back up dancers.

Montana is Obama Country   July 30th, 2008 7:29 pm ET

Luda needs to rise above some of his lyrics..

he needs to be more of a role model..

California Gold   July 30th, 2008 7:29 pm ET

He should be ashamed and he should immediately apologize beginning with Mrs. Clinton.

M Wilson   July 30th, 2008 7:29 pm ET

People should watch what they are saying. I am an Obama supporter but I think Hillary Clinton ran a campaign to win; which is what she was suppose to do. Senator Clinton does not deserve any of these negative remarks, Ludicris should be ashame of himself. While Senator Clinton did not win the primary, she is NOT irrelevant. Senator Clinton is a smart woman and I'm sure made many women proud of the way she was willing to duke it out. People like Ludicris should sit down, shut up and keep their negative, unproductive remarks to themselves. Disgusting and completely unnecessary.

Lisa   July 30th, 2008 7:28 pm ET

Get use to it folks!!!

Eric   July 30th, 2008 7:28 pm ET

Gonna have to side with the Obama camp on this one. As a fan of Luda and an Obama supporter, i do feel that Luda could have come up with a better choice of words.

does this surprise me from any rapper? nope
