Richardson to help Clinton retire campaign debt

(CNN) – Is Bill Richardson about to kiss and make up with the Clintons? It certainly looks that way.

The New Mexico governor announced Wednesday that he will host two fundraisers to help Sen. Hillary Clinton retire more than $20 million in outstanding campaign debt accumulated during her failed White House bid.

"Governor Richardson's efforts reinforce Senator Obama's commitment to unifying the Democratic Party and assisting Senator Clinton's effort to retire her campaign debt," Bill Burton, a spokesman for Barack Obama’s campaign, said in a statement released by Richardson.

Richardson, who served as secretary of energy in Bill Clinton’s administration, decided to endorse the Illinois senator, now the presumptive Democratic nominee. The move was viewed as an act of betrayal by some longtime supporters of the Clintons. CNN Political Analyst James Carville, who has long and deep ties to both Clintons, even likened Richardson’s endorsement to Judas’s betrayal of Christ.

In late April, Richardson responded to Carville’s criticisms by saying that Carville and other Clinton supporters believe they are a “dynasty” and that they were “clinging to the throne.”

Since announcing his support for Obama, Richardson has made numerous television and campaign appearances on Obama’s behalf. He is also mentioned as a potential pick for vice president.

In the statement from Richardson, Clinton spokeswoman Kathleen Strand said, "Senator Clinton is grateful for Governor Richardson's and Senator Obama's efforts to assist with retiring her campaign debt and she is looking forward to continuing to campaign for Senator Obama and help ensure victory for Democrats throughout the country this fall."

Senator Clinton will attend both invitation-only events in New Mexico in mid-August.

    Thank you Gov. Richardson

As an Obama supporter, I also donated to Clinton's campaign and plan to make another contribution next month. Can "PUMA" say the same? I hope so but tend to think that was not part of Rush Limbaugh's instructions. LOL

It's admirable that true supporters of Democratic principles work together to help each other. I commend all of those respectful efforts by Richardson, Clinton, Obama, etc.

I spent too much on my credit card, can someone help me pay off my $5000 debt?? I provide drinks and fingerfoods!

Mr. Richardson worked for Mr. Clinton. His loyality was not to Mrs. Clinton. Mr. Carville was totally out of line for the comments he made. This shows that Mr. Richardson is a better person. Mr. Carville should take heed. Hopefully, Mr. Carville will be a generous donor.

How about letting the "loan" she gave her campaign go unpaid! Then she can initiate collection proceedings against herself!

Go ahead CNN – Moderate me as usual, then don't post me!

What in all creation is wrong with HILLARY retiring HER OWN debt??? Dems are trying to raise money to help get Sen. OBAMA run a great campaign this fall so he is elected POTUS. On top of that money is needed to put on the Convention here in Denver. Can someone PLEASE tell me is the the way it has always been with being the nominee? The winner has to pay off the loser's campaign debt? Craziness this is!

Too late, Judas - we'll still be voting for McCain. You should have been there when she needed you the most.

Am I wrong, or is is HILLARY CLINTON with the $20 million debt?!?!?!

Clinton is going to get help from anywhere she can because PUMA won't pay her debt!

Clinton still out for #1 SELF. She should suck it up and pay it off with all of her millions. I am sick of getting her dinner under the stars dept relief emails. I used to be a big Clinton fan but no more.

Well it's about time Richardson came around. Bill Clinton gave him his first break. Richardson must be shaking in his boots for going with Obama. Now he has to make amends because he knows Obama's going to lose !!!

Electing a democrat to the presidency should take president over H. Clinton retirering her debt.

We have seen efforts by Obama to help H. Clinton with her debt. Why don't I see her helping Obama win the presidency?

Bill Richardson is partially to blame for the nomination being taken away from Mrs. Clinton, so perhaps it is appropriate that he help her pay down her debt. However, after stabbing her in the back, I hardly think that anyone would fall for his fake call for party unity. Mr. Richardson and Mr. Obama are much alike, a false façade hiding an empty soul.

The new O-DNC should pay off Mrs. Clinton’s debts and apologize to her for tossing her in the trash bin.

Why was he referred to as Judas? He never promised the Clintons his endorsement; they just thought he would give it to them as he'd served Bill previously.

Is it betrayal to think of your country before your personal friends?

Before i would accept any help from that JUDAS i would work for minimum wage to pay the debt myself. I know what they are trying to do is get the Clinton supporters and voters to forget how she was shafted by the Obama campagin and the democrat leadership committee. I hope most of her supporters are not stupid enough to fall for this ploy. They better realisze that if Obama wins the general election Hillary will never get her chance as president.

Why are people getting mad over Richardson endorsing Obama he can do whatever he wants she doesn't own him. And after being call Judas am surprise he's even helping the Clintons. All you die hard supporters get over it already its like a bad break-up. If you support her so much than pay off her debt instead of making up ridiculous reasons as to why you don't support Obama. And if Clinton didn't want his money than she can easliy turn him away but she won't because she needs him. Let's face it the Pumas will never trust Obama no matter what he does. I mean he supports the same issues as Hillary does they are campaigning together and she is helping him along with Bill to get elected. But to them it doesn't matter. I say its time to get new voters and forget about these arrogant and ignorant people. Nothing makes them happy.

  21. Pick me! Pick me!

"Vote for McCain, a candidate we can trust with our values. A candidate that all Americans can rely on to safeguard our values and our American way of life. i just don't trust Obama to do the right thing.
    Do you?"
    _____________________________

McCain doesn't hold a candle to my values. I have never given any military secrets to the enemy, nor have I cheated on my wife. I support my fellow Veterans and the POW/MIA flag is flown in my yard. I have gone on the yearly Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Ride to the Vietnam Memorial Wall. McCain is not welcome when we are there and for all those who wonder why? Maybe you should look it up.

    Do I trust McCain? No

I wish anyone who refers to Richardson as a "Judas" for endorsing the candidate he felt was the best candidate would either become a Republican, or go to a monarchy nation such as Saudi Arabia.

Here, we don't crucify people for doing what they believe is the right thing. Some of you people need to retake that civics.

I am so tired of reading these blogs. I went away for a month, I come back and people are still stupid. Hillary Clinton has every right to ask her supporters to help pay down her campaign debt. I have donated to the max. Hillary is not asking for her personel loan to be re-paid, a wish more people would learn the facts. Also, Hillary Clinton helped pay-off campaign debts from several of the other failed campaigns, no one had an issue when she gave help. I wish, just once, before you people write , you would actually do some research and get your facts straight. Most of the issues in this campaign have been caused by supporters spouting off false facts as true and bloggers who feel that whatever they say must be true. God help us..the internet should be a tool to connect people, as I see it, its the biggest tabloid ever created.
