In new TV spot, GOP senator stresses his work with Obama

A new ad from Gordon Smith’s campaign stresses his work with Barack Obama.
A new ad from Gordon Smith’s campaign stresses his work with Barack Obama.

(CNN) - Republican campaigns have launched a slew of ads this year looking to tie Democratic congressional candidates to Barack Obama. Now the Illinois senator’s name is making another appearance in a new GOP spot this week - the second ad from Oregon Senator Gordon Smith that stresses his own working relationship with the presumptive Democratic nominee, and with Massachusetts Senator John Kerry.

"Times are tough. Rising prices on gas, food, health care. Families need help. That's why I choose to reach across the aisle,” says Smith in the new spot. “With John Kerry to protect homeowners from foreclosure, with Barack Obama for better gas mileage. And when President Bush tried to cut Medicaid, the Oregon health plan, I said no. What matters is helping people, not who gets the credit.”

Last month, Smith plugged his work with the Illinois Democrat to push for stricter mileage standards for automobiles.

Smith may be highlighting his ties to Obama - but he can’t boast a nod from his Senate colleague, who supports Democratic opponent Jeff Merkley.

Smith is in a lot of trouble this year. We lost the timber subsidies due to NAFTA and the Bush administration just put the nail in the coffin. Now a lot of counties out here in Oregon are going bankrupt. Puma's this is about Smith and not clinton so go to the other thing to complain.

McCain has not addressed anything that would help oregon out. Obama has and understands how we can become a green leader here. Smith is riding on his coattails as people up here like what Obama wants to do to help out Oregon. From Thermal to Solar we can lead the way. However since Smith has not been able to bring the relief that the counties out here need I am guessing he is going to be gone. Jackson county has weathered it ok as we have a huge agricultural sector but Joespephine and other counties are having to close down schools and fire police. It is getting really bad. Also hospitals might close as well. Thanks GW and Clinton for Nafta and keeping with Nafta which ruined the Timber industry.

    Funny...
There is such a huge movement now to defeat the installed Obama.

Heck who can understand the pandering of politicians.

Hillary was sabotaged by the DNC BECAUSE they could never control her. She banned the Media from the Clinton white house and thus was mistreated by the media in retaliation.

Still the People WANT Hillary because she is the ONLY qualified candidate to vote for.

Even though approaching 80% of the people want drilling as part of our plan for energy Independence–They won't even allow a vote–
Correct me but isn't the job of our leaders to do what we want done-

Congress at a 10% Favorable rating-
    What a surprise-

Yea...Yea..Obama is smart and even his rivals(some) admit he has many of the right views on everything. Now can we get to the Inauguration please?

As far as Obama's oratory prowess...Oh Please, he only uses speechwriters when he has to because of time constaints. I have seen many on the fly interviews with him and I am amazed everytime that man opens his mouth. He really did go to Harvard!

This man is only siding with Obama because Oregon is a liberal state and he wants to be re-elected. In the voting booth, he will vote for McCain. Politics can be so deceiving. Only the ignorant Obama supporters will truly believe that this guy is for Obama.

Obviously you've never seen the movie "The Manchurian Candidate" or you would know that Senator McCain comes closer to that comparison than Senator Obama. Why not be honest and say you're not voting for Obama because you don't like him or whatever?

    > Stop with the threats about NOT voting for HRC in 2012 just to get
    > even. I doubt that HRC will run in 2012- so it is an empty threat as
    > well as counterproductive.

And besides.. McCain will likely repeals women's right to vote so all this talk really is counterproductive. His new tax hikes for the poor, cuts in Medicare and Social Security and "oil plan" will ensure that most of y'all PUMAs will be either dead or broke by 2012.

    _________________________________________________
when you reference the Manchurian Candidate you are talking about a military person captured and then brainwashed by the enemy....hmmmm lets see. John S. Mccain was a POW for 5 years and the Star of some 32 Vietcong Military films, signed anti- American statements...he gave them Military information after the 4th day in captivity, upon his return he left his injured wife ( who would never fit the mold of a first lady after her accident) to marry a women 18 years his JR. blond and attractive (picture of a first lady) after his tor id affair and betrayal of his first wife...oh yeah very rich, used her money to run for Senate, a lot of shady dealings, happens to have one of the highest absent records, ran unsuccessfully several times for POTUS, and now is at 72 running again in a campaign reeking of negativity, confused rhetoric, flip flops, a lot of old Bush campaign employees, and oh yes a whole lot of Big Washington LOBBYIST...5 years under the enemy, bought his way into Senate ( having NO prior political experience) failed attempts to power now BACKED BY THE CORRUPT WASHINGTON LOBBYIST AND EX BUSH CAMPAIGNERS...now all that being said, who sounds more Manchurian?

Can anybody tell me the difference between a democray and a republican? I see both of them as money grabbing opportunists out to line their pockets as full as they can get them. Sen. Stevens is a prime example. There are many many others that haven't gotten cought yet. Just think when they retire they will get many more thousands of dollars from our tax dollars to live in comfort on. while the working stiff will just might eek out an existance.

How could these Republians agreed they have somehow work with senator Obama on different issues that matters to the public and the GOP said Obama never work with the repulican?

Now the sensible people will know if they have not know before that Obama have worked with the repulican for the intrest of the America pulblic, that many repulican are flip floppers. One said no Obama is leftist the other said no he is middle. Some charge Obama have never work together with the other side of the aisle.

Flip flop is the other name for some republican, just like Mccflipflops.

    Who is flip flop?

This articles neglects to mention Smith is currently one of the State Chairman for McCain and in 2004 was Bush's State Chairman!

Smith got caught up in the polygamy issue with the raids in Texas which was a rare instance when his Mormon faith got any media attention at all...

The joke out here is that all the Mormon's a lining up for Obama after Gordon endorsed him in that TV commercial...

Well, its true that McCain was captured. Its true that are a lot of things in his life, but isnt it true that most of us have a past, we have probably done things we are not proud off, or we rather forget. We are human.
For me and most of you biggest problem is high oil price, it has affected us in the way we life, not by a whole lot but God forbid any discomfort for us.
Now imagine somebody like McCain for 5 years in camp as a prisoner. Thats my friend 365 days x 5= 1825 days, I would like to see how well you would last, and how many days would it take till they make you speak. Last time I heard on those camps they were not handing flowers to prisoners. It is extremely easy sitting in front of the computer and criticizing somebody. You should read what his friends that were in camp with him said, he would tend to everybody, he was everybody's doctor, he tough bible school to the prisoners, and allways kept morale high. If those are not qualities of the leader I do not know what they are. Most of us dont want to sacrifice to do anything for anybody unless its in our day off. McCain spend 5 years in camp because he fought for his country. I know Wesley Clark questioned his war record. Wesley Clark use to writte speeches for NATO comander in SHAPE, Belgium before comming to the post of comander of NATO. For somebody who spent his military days in front of type writer, he sure has room to critizice.
For the record, McCain is not my favourite candidate, however he has a record, good or bad, I know what I am voting for.
With Obama I have to take his words on my faith, cause he does not have any experience nor track record.
When it comes taking things on my faith, I do that every Sunday at church. In the real world experience and track record matter to me.
I can argue with Obama supporters all day long, I do not know but its like being hypnotized, CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE, I mean what does that even mean...
    I'll cut it here.
