A new McCain Web ad pegs Obama as ‘The One.’
A new McCain Web ad pegs Obama as ‘The One.’

(CNN) – After a week of bare-knuckle political brawling on the trail, it seemed Friday John McCain’s campaign had found religion.

In a Web ad e-mailed to supporters, the McCain team painted Barack Obama as a recipient of near-messianic hype – and a candidate all-too-willing to believe it.

“It shall be known that in 2008 the world will be blessed. They will call him ‘The One,’” says the announcer in the minute-long video, over images of light shining from the heavens and a gospel music-like soundtrack, interspersed with clips drawn from Obama speeches.

“And he has anointed himself. Ready to carry the burden of The One,” continues the announcer. “He can do no wrong. Can you see the light?”

By the end of the ad, Obama seems to have received a promotion from mere Messiah to possible divinity: Charlton Heston’s Moses is shown parting the Red Sea, proclaiming “Behold His mighty hand!” as Obama’s presidential seal rises from the waters.

“Barack Obama may be the one. But is he ready to lead?” concludes the announcer.

On a flight to Panama City Florida, McCain senior adviser Nicolle Wallace told reporters that the video had been designed as a bookend to what the campaign believed had been a very successful week.

In a CNN poll of polls Friday, the Arizona senator cut Obama’s Monday lead by half, to three points.

Wallace added that the ad – which she described as respectful of all faiths — was intended to rally the presumptive Republican nominee’s supporters, and that there was an "important role for humor in all campaigns. I think all of us would slit our wrists if it wasn't for that."

i did vote for Hillary in the primary and to paraphrase Obama- i am not a democrat or republican, i am an American first.
having said that, i don't think this country has a whole lot to be happy about regarding its two choices this election year. i'm staying home on nov.3 and i will not complain about the outcome because i already know it's a lose/lose situation. whoever it is, God bless 'em, they're in for it no matter who it is

spudmctater   August 1st, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Absolutely the worst attack ad I've ever seen. Ever. America deserves better Mr. McCain. I hope you're "proud" of this one too. Ridiculous.

Totally Offended....   August 1st, 2008 4:31 pm ET

I am outraged and offended by this. This is so mean, and so low…I'm a Republican, and I expected more from my candidate.

JB   August 1st, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Unbelieveable that we are seeing this juvenile approach!

This has to be the worst ad campaign in any election.

I can't believe the American people will buy this.

I used to admire McCain. Now I see him as totally disgusting.

Looks like the Bush people have taken over his campaign.

If this works the American people will again have a a president with no soul or dignity.

The Straight Talk Express has become the Lowest Level Talk Express.

RH   August 1st, 2008 4:31 pm ET

They're attacking him for being popular? And knowing it? How sad is that? If he attempts to react I suppose they'll accuse him of false humility.

JR   August 1st, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Scare tactics? Poor taste Sen. McCain…I was on the fence…but you just nudged me in the other direction. I voted for you in 2000 but with this type of hype…I don't think I can help you again. Very sad.

Grumpy Grandpa   August 1st, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Okay, the gloves are off McCain. Bring it on, you want to take on Barack, we'll take on you. Oh, I forgot you can't read this because you're too senile to get on a computer. What a waste of the taxpayer’s time and money.

wycliffe, NJ   August 1st, 2008 4:31 pm ET

I will not mock anyone using religion it is simply offensive.

Kizz, Germany   August 1st, 2008 4:31 pm ET

What is that smell???????????????
Smells like jealousy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…Sen.. Mc(whatever!) we both know that you will never be able to inspire poeple and pull crowds like Sen. Obama has done.

Record turn-out at the Primaries, record turn-out at campaign speeches…!!!!! Are you Mc(whatever!) getting frustrated and jealous because you can´t accomplish that?

Are you implying that the millions of Americans and citizens around the world that go to listen to Sen. Obama are pure idiots?

Atleast these idiots know that Iraq and Pakistan don`t share a border and they also know that Czechoslovakia doesn´t exist.

I think your strategy will backfire seriously.

Barack Obama 08   August 1st, 2008 4:31 pm ET

NO SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEMS AMERICANS ARE FACING. NO ADS STATING HOW HE PLANS TO HELP AMERICANS. MCCAIN SAID HE IS"JUST HAVING SOME FUN". WELL MCCAIN IT IS NO FUN FILLING UP MY GAS TANK AND BUYING GROCIES. I AM SURE IT IS NOT FUN FOR THOSE STRUGGLING TO PAY THEIR MORTGAGES, OR WHO HAVE ALREADY LOST THEIR HOME. IT IS NO FUN FOR THE UNEMPLOYED. I AM GLAD IT IS POSSIBLE FOR YOU TO HAVE "FUN" WHEN SO MANY AMERICANS ARE STRUGGLING. GOOD LUCK WINNING THE ELECTION IN NOVEMBER. YOU ARE GOING TO NEED IT!!!

Charlie Wong   August 1st, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Vote your mind America…not on clever ads.

JA Cook   August 1st, 2008 4:31 pm ET

webster208   August 1st, 2008 4:30 pm ET

It's about time that people address Obama's messianic complex. He strings together trite motherhood statements, and crowds start chanting his name. And then he starts saying: "Now is the time that we've been waiting for…" as if this means anything. He really has a cult following.

Is this a joke?   August 1st, 2008 4:30 pm ET

You've got to be kidding. If McCain runs the country the way he runs a campaign, you better hope he loses.

Barbara   August 1st, 2008 4:30 pm ET

I think this ad is just gone too far for McCain to put out. I'm A Christian and this ad should not even been put out like this. This is telling not only me but other voters. Well here is your AntiChrist. Shame Shame on McCain for using not only the scriptures of the bible to further political gains. He tells everyone that he knows that Obama is a Christian, but then places ads like this. I think that He should take this ad off, for it really hurts his campaign, and tell Obama how sorry he is for running such a ad. He needs to Stick to the facts, not fiction and what is really wrong with the country.

Dee D   August 1st, 2008 4:30 pm ET

Todd   August 1st, 2008 4:30 pm ET

MCCAIN!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING???? This ad is ridiculous…it's outrageous…not funny…not at all effective….terriable tack and choice of campaign direction

Mac   August 1st, 2008 4:30 pm ET

hilarious. McCain 08

Jeffrey   August 1st, 2008 4:30 pm ET

Wow. You know, I never had any intention of voting for McCain, but I also never imagined that his campaign would sink to the lows in his new campaigns. This "The One" thing is the most pathetic bottom-feeding crap I've heard of in a long time. McCain is so obviously running scared, it's amazing. This is the sort of thing he should be running from fast, but instead he's embracing it. I can't remember any Karl Rove-invented ad as bad as this. Truly, truly sad. This will bite McCain back, hard.

Matt   August 1st, 2008 4:29 pm ET

What is McCain trying to do with these ads? Is this a good use of campaign money? I would like to see McCain tell me what HE'S going to do for me as opposed to poking fun and attacking Obama all week.

The guy is a joke.

JEric   August 1st, 2008 4:29 pm ET

Time for Obama to stick it to this moron. Obama made a huge mistake playing the Republican game by getting caught up in defending himself. McCain has made some ridiculous comments lately doesn't present any plans of his own but has shifted simply to doing anything possible to take down Obama. Obama has the media spotlight he should use it to pursue an aggressive smack at McCain's ignorance and lack of direction.. hit him where it hurts.

Bertha   August 1st, 2008 4:29 pm ET

Political sacrilege.

As Christians, we understand the difference between worship of our God and the basic support we have for Obama as presidential candidate.

McCain and his Republican staff have crossed the line (again). Sad.

Substance over rhetoric please.

steven   August 1st, 2008 4:29 pm ET

This is pathetic. The media will push this ad all over for free, start an issue that is below any logical political discussion.

someone stop this.

Mike M, Indiana   August 1st, 2008 4:29 pm ET

McCain's campagne is making Hillary Clinton's campagne look good!

MS   August 1st, 2008 4:29 pm ET

I am a completely undecided and unaffiliated voter. I lean Republican.

This ad is completely offensive. The arrogance of the McCain campaign is unmet. They are either trying to scare the religious right into believing Obama is the anti-Christ or playing into their religion – I guess the polls will tell us whether or not it worked.

For me, I think McCain just lost my vote.

Lynne   August 1st, 2008 4:29 pm ET

I am proud of McCain and his advisors. I totally agree with McCain. I am so happy that he is finally doing this! It scares me to death that this man will be put into office. He reminds me of the anti-christ!
He is so arrogant and self serving and the people wanting him is blinded to all of this. Thank you McCain!

Donna   August 1st, 2008 4:29 pm ET

This has gotten childish beyond belief!!! Looks like I need to look at the 3rd party candidates a little harder….

This ad still doesn't say what McCain's stance is on the REAL ISSUES..another attack ad..so sad that REAL politics have taken a backseat to the playground….

Andy   August 1st, 2008 4:29 pm ET

I think the McCain campaign will soon find out that this was actually a really bad week for them. This is the week McCain lost the respect of independents and moderates.

CNN, please stop indulging the McCain campaign.

really successful, when your 'work' is berated not only by your opponent but also your party but i guess if you are at the bottom digging yourself out gaining even an inch as you fall a foot is a success.

Jim M.   August 1st, 2008 4:29 pm ET

Apparently desperate times require desperate measures. Attacking the character of your opponent has worked well for the Dirty Trick Crowd in the past (remember swift boat?) so they have trotted it out again. How dare anyone who allows this kind of garbage to be produced question the leadership abilities of their opponent?

Ms. O'Connor   August 1st, 2008 4:29 pm ET

I must admit. As a Christian and as an educated voter, I'm offended by this ad. But moreso…I'm surprised. I would have never thought McCain would release something like this. Wow.

What happened to the once credible, honorable McCain that I voted for in 2000?

Gabriel   August 1st, 2008 4:28 pm ET

Disgusting, putrid, vile, contemptuous, petty, vain, and just plain old-fashioned stupid. The McCain campaign reeks of desperation. Their campaign motif seems to be "Vote for me because fewer people like me." What a winner.

Kurt   August 1st, 2008 4:28 pm ET

McCain's a zero. He's got nothing, but old war stories and hate-filled babble. Barack and his supporters will clean his clock in November. So you want to play dirty, bring it on sourpuss.

Americans want a president who knows what to do with an Apple besides eat it.

Dave   August 1st, 2008 4:28 pm ET

When one has nothing good to say about himself, he tries to tear down his enemies. Obviously neither John McCain nor his advisors can think of anything positive to say about John McCain. Obama should take this as a compliment.

PT   August 1st, 2008 4:28 pm ET

Is McCain taking this ad seriously? McCain is begining to look like a fool…in fact he already is one. McCain will be kept far away from the white house as he has become delusional. Mixing borders, comparing Brittney to Obama…The man is off his rocker here.

Deb, Allentown, PA   August 1st, 2008 4:28 pm ET

OMG, McCain has got to be kidding! I so hope these ridiculous ads backfire big time.

McCain, do us a favor if you want us to consider voting for you. Tell us what positives you bring to the table, instead of obsessing over BO 24/7.

Or is this all you've got?

Gary of El Centro, Ca   August 1st, 2008 4:28 pm ET

So we've gone from Spears and Hilton to Moses parting the Red Sea? With all of the serious issues on the table, McCain gives us cartoons? If that's all you got, you might as well just concede the election right now and save us all a lot of trouble.

I will have lost all faith in the American people to make sound judgement on the potential presidency and it will be a huge blow to democracy. Kool-Aid, here it comes.

It's sad that the Republican's and John McCain's camp refuses to acknowledge that Obamas supportors believe in his abilities to be an effective President.

We have had a C student, why would we want a D student. We want to give smart a chance! We want someone who doesn't have a history of irresponsibility (low test scores, crashing planes, adultery, etc, etc, etc.).

Most importantly, we want someone who hasn't been in congress for 30 year and has led this country into despair.

So make your jokes while insulting every Christian in the world.

OBAMA 2008

biglio   August 1st, 2008 4:27 pm ET

He's desperate!
And BTW all this talking about Obama being unfit for commander in chief, I would like to remember that McCain voted against the US and NATO intervention in Bosnia, which was undeniably a great success, talking about unfitness to be commander in chief……
I would love to see McCain try to organize the same trip that Obama just pulled out in Europe and see how many heads of state he can make recieve him, not to count how many people he can get at one of his rallies in Berlin or anywhere else. He is the examplification of why he shouldn't be elected, because he's the representative of the isolationist part of the US, the part afraid of everything, the part that doesn't care or even know that the majority of the world is OUTSIDE the Us………
Obama might not be the ONE but surely Mc Cain isn't either.
If the us elects another republican the world will just turn their back to the US, people want to like the us but it's like a loved one that keeps failing, you cannot put up with it for too long……
good luck america.

McCain is becoming desperate and pathetic. His ads are out there and they don't make any sense. He ran an ad saying that Obama did not visit the troops and in it he showed Obama visiting and playing basketball with the troops. This ad is so strange and I really don't know what the point is other than he is saying that Obama is believing his own press clippings and his own P.R.. It is wierd and vague.
McCain is desperate and pitiful.
Oh, and by the way, McCain is totally unqualified.

Jim Hall   August 1st, 2008 4:26 pm ET

Steve   August 1st, 2008 4:26 pm ET

Can McCain get any more pathetic? I knew there was a race card, but McCain has now come up with the "Messiah Card". I used to respect McCain as a solid guy. I haven't always agreed with him, but as an independent voter, I could usually see his way of thinking. These days? Not so much. One thing I am absolutely sure of is that McCain is NOT "The One". Lately he's a lot more like "Number Two".

Ken   August 1st, 2008 4:26 pm ET

Okay he has flipped his lid!

vickie   August 1st, 2008 4:26 pm ET

This ad is likely intended to exploit the ignorance of those who still believe Obama is Muslim, among other things. The 'Messiah' meme has been playing on the right-wing blogosphere for a while now.

After the previous ads this week, I supposed I shouldn't be shocked that McCain would stoop this low. Still, I find this ad offensive not just to Obama (and what he has clearly stated he is NOT), but to those of us who support him, as well. John McCain does not know my motivations for supporting Senator Obama, nor does he know the reasons others support him. For him to imply that we've all been duped by some sort of political televangelist selling snake oil is insulting, disrepectful, and downright despicable.

I hope Obama hits back hard on this one.

arc, Lugano CH   August 1st, 2008 4:26 pm ET

Once Senator McCain displays images of Osama bin Laden in his commercials, he will have finally sunk to Hillary's level.

But I doubt that even John McCain wants to be best remembered for appealing to the lowest denominator as Hillary did when she dove into the sewer.

If God has set Obama up as the next president, you just might find yourself fighting more against God than Obama.

Are they implying that Obama is calling himself, the second coming of Christ? Wow. Well, I thought the McCain camp thinks he is a Muslim….there is some flip flopping again (laugh). Okay so the he is a Muslim didn't work, nor did he has no experience. so I imagine someone was sitting around in the McCain Campaign headquarters thinking "we must do something to reverse this slaughter. Oh I got it! Let's use something that will scare the crap out of all of the bible fanatics! let's say Obama tthinks he is the second coming of Christ. And since we know Jesus is white (that's hwhat they think) it will get everyone out to stop the evil black man"! Unfreakingbelievable McNutts!

Joe in NJ   August 1st, 2008 4:26 pm ET

I'm not sure McCain should be the one doing it but someone really does need to address Obama's messiah thing. Some of his supporters are going overboard when praising him and it's starting to get downright scary. When it comes down to it, he's just a politician and not a savior.

Jeff   August 1st, 2008 4:24 pm ET

The sad thing is, going negative works. Too bad John McCain has lost all credibility with people like me who used to like his stance to stay out of the gutter. I will never vote for McCain now. He has learned from Carl Rove to attack you rivals strengths not their weaknesses. Compared to Bush, John Kerry was practically a war hero, so where did he get attacked, his war record. And John Kerry lost. Now McCain is attacking Obama's strengths. Even though I will now never vote for flip-flop McCain I am afraid that he will now win in November.

If Inside Edition broadcasted correctly (on 5/18/08 @ 5/19/08), Obama is lying saying that he never be a Muslim. During schooling Indonesia he was registered in his school as Islam (you have to complete record in school also in your ID include religion). Most of his speeches was so alequently delivered so that very rarely people not tempted to agree with him. That is the problem. At least after he left Indonesia, he was a Muslim. I doubt that he is embracing Christianity at all. Please check whether he was converted if yes then he must be babtized also. I believe he never be baptized. His Muslim blood is hiding in the name of United Trinity church.

Susan, TX   August 1st, 2008 4:24 pm ET

So if he's the messiah, at least we know he's not muslim anymore.

I used to respect John McCain, but he's really shown himself to be a complete idiot lately. Why not argue the issues ?

ExPat for Obama   August 1st, 2008 4:24 pm ET

I'd just like to know when McCain plans on talking about HIMSELF and HIS POLICY POSITIONS in his ads. All of the smoke & mirrors advertising is making the American Presidential race look like a circus — especially abroad. I would, for once in the past 8 years, like my co-workers to not think that we as Americans have completely lost our minds.

These childish and ridiculous attacks coming out the McCain campaign are doing no favours to the image of America up here in Canada. And — the Bush administration has definitely provided us with enough humourous moments — we don't need another comedian leading our country.

I will hang my head low if McCain wins the election and I have to deal with my Canadian co-workers asking me "Seriously. In a country of 300 Million people — this is the best you guys can come up with."

Let's get back to the issues – let's vote with our minds and not our feelings. Sheesh. We have real issues that need real solutions.

What the hell? McCain has really gone off the deep end. We have got to hurry and vote for Barack before this looney-tune implodes. It's one thing for trolls to call Barack the Messiah; it's another thing for a national presidential candidate.

So yesterday a celebrity, today the Messiah–lol. More dirty slimy tricks that just won't work.

I'm not worried because it says the GOP is desperate.

Obama 08

Kimberly from Houston, TX   August 1st, 2008 4:24 pm ET

OMG this is insulting…

All that is going on in America, the economy, soaring gas and food prices, home foreclosures, increasing education cost, etc. and this is what the McCain camp wants to talk about.

America deserves better!

Not this time…GOP

Theresa   August 1st, 2008 4:24 pm ET

this is getting really unbelievable – I can't imagine anyone actually wanting John McCain to be our president after this campaign which insults the American people and the issues our country faces.

LLMTruth   August 1st, 2008 4:24 pm ET

The One??? Someone has to be "The One" the question is which one? No one far as I can tell is not claiming to be the Christ, so why is McCain's campaign trying to paint Obama in this light. Doesn't he want to be "The One"? Who is directing his campaign anyway? Have they thought this through? It doesn't appear so.

If McCain gets elected then I quess he is "The One" and if Obama gets elected then I guess he's "The One". That ad is stupid and applicable to both of them unless McCain plans on dropping out. Both candidates would be better served addressing the issues that effect the american public. Not wasting time on nonsense like this ad and others like the Spears and Hilton ads. They do nothing to express what the candidate wants to do for the people when elected.

The Cult for Obama- all those who jumped on a bandwagon, who declared him, not a man, but a movement, those who continue to say he is god's gift to the world, all those who hate in his name….

YOU are the ones who will lose this election not only for OBAMA…but for the democratic party.

You never should have trashed, dices, insulted, denigrated and hated on fellow democrats and on Hillary.

Now the myth of Obama will come tumbling down. And having threatened the DNC into installing Obama as the party nominee, you have ensured a democratic loss in a year when failure was Impossible.

Forcing people to vote your way will ALWAYS backfire in the end.

Obama created intra-party and intra-nation hatred. He inflamed the hatred to advance himself. Now that he has started the fire, he can not control it. The self-proclaimed uniter is the MOST polarizing person of them all. He inspires vile, filthy, vulgar hateful supporters who glorify him and worship him.

The rest of the nation will vote AGAINST Obama just to fight that insanity of cult worship and blind loyalty to a demogogue.

Mary Pauls   August 1st, 2008 4:23 pm ET

McCain is using "scare tactics", playing on lies that have been circulating negatively thruout Obama's campaign. I thought John McCain would be more honorable than that, but I see he is just as bad
as the people spreading the falsehoods.

I am so disappointed in the whole "system" of campaigning in the US
- find the worse possible suggestion of a lie referring to your rival, and
enlarge on it, to make yourself look more of "a man" (ugh)
I'm sure God is totally disappointed in this particular add of John McCains – using biblical references (which is the word of God) – for his own desires to discredit Obama – I hope it backfires on McCain – he deserves it! "What goes around, comes around".

Mb   August 1st, 2008 4:23 pm ET

As Americans are we to dumb down to this sort of political trash. If everthing Mccain implies here is true, if Obama does not have all experience he needs, if I accepted everything Mccain says as truth, I would still vote for Obama. Why, because of the failed policies of the last 8 years, an unnecessary war, economy contraction, but most of all the sense that he offers HOPE. It's there and nothing Mccain can do to take it away .

Brian Boyd, Staunton, Va   August 1st, 2008 4:23 pm ET

sorry guys, there's no humor in how much suffering there is in our country right now and what the real issues should be. i feel sad for any and every person that believes John McCain (and his campaign advisors) has the intelligence to help save our country. these recent ads from his campaign are despicable, distasteful and just plain dumb. WAKE UP AMERICA!!!

Jiggles   August 1st, 2008 4:23 pm ET

For God sake:
a) humour is spelt with a U by the way- language is English NOT American…just messing!!

b) there is a role for humour/humor in campaigns…but if McCain wants to be a comedian he's going to need something better than this.

c) It may be respectful to all faiths but that doesn't mean its not a pathetically cheap shot

d) Why does CNN continue to report on every single hack-ad McCain produces- how about you refuse to write up another press release from his campaign until he says something that resembles a policy?

e) As to the poll- seriously America, you guys elect McCain it will backfire on you- quite a lot of your economy is exports- and another 8 years of Bush-like politics and not country on the planet will want to trade with you…you get what you deserve on this one.

- I'm not trying to say Europe should have a vote- but please don't cut off your nose just to spite your face!

LA Ben   August 1st, 2008 4:23 pm ET

Dave   August 1st, 2008 4:23 pm ET

There's no such thing as humor in politics. Everything is calculated. McCain is trying to portray Obama as overhyped; Obama is trying to portray McCain as an extension of the Bush presidency. I for one think Obama's strategy carries more punch.

Brian, Buffalo, NY   August 1st, 2008 4:23 pm ET

How much lower does the McCain campaign want to drag American politics now that they are reduced to the employment of quasi-blasphemous 'humor'. The saddest part of this is that there are people who consider this all fun. The USA will be voting for someone to fill the most important position in the world and treating it as lightly as an episode of 'Jeopardy'. How sick can you get? John McCain, stop this nonsense now before you become the laughing stock of the world. How can you expect to get respect from world leaders and millions of your countrymen if you continue with this childishness?

DMitri   August 1st, 2008 4:22 pm ET

Congratulations, McCain camp! Without any valid criticisms, you've resorted to childish implications that Obama has a messiah complex. You people are amazingly brilliant! It's sad, really, because this behavior was stupid even back in elementary school, where the perpetrators had the excuse of being 7 years old. McCain can't generate the same enthusiasm, so what else is there left to do but to resort to base mockery? Instead of spending millions enviously calling Obama names, why don't you try to make your platform more reasonable (i.e. copy Obama's). McCain, proud to act like a child when he obviously knows better. Yay, Republicans, do anything to win. Stay the course. The failed course.

This is nothing but the same old from the Repubilcan't Right Wing religious folk. They want everyone in America to be evangelicals. Do As I Say, Not As I Do, cry the Repubs.. What we need in America is religion left out of politics and politics left out of religion … The Repubs don't care about religious freedoms or MY right to not believe in religion. I am tired of anyone who says I have to believe in god, or jesus or who shoves religion down our throats. We have a separation of church and state in the constitution for a reason. Bush has violated the constitution by his faith based programs and faith based office in the W.H. McCain claimed today during a forum in Panama City, FL that he doesn't believe his ads are negative. He also got stumped by a woman asking a his record about helping minorities.. Took him 30 seconds to a minute to compose his thought then he asked her to repeat the question.. Senile!!

Bob, Seattle   August 1st, 2008 4:22 pm ET

Obama is a mere 'hollow-gram'. No substance what-so-ever. Socialist bordering on communist. He would signal the end of 'yankee ingenuity' and turn all of us out on the 'reservation' with our hands out, begging for relief from big brother.

John McCain is really traveling down the wrong path with his campaign. Voters are going to start thinking he lost his mind with these ads against Obama or ……………………… maybe he really thinks Obama is the #1 Celebrity or the new Messiah.

Senator McCain needs to start talking about his policies and ideas and quit worrying so much about Obama's status. He cannot do anything about it and these ads make him look deranged!

Yes. Obama is ready to lead. The simplest definition of a leader is someone who gets others to follow. His popularity is evidence that he can do exactly that. He is a skilled speaker and had policies in detail on his web site. McCain, on the other hand, has trouble filling a room.

Has it ever occurred to either candidate, especially McCain, that WE don't care about the ads? Americans are more concerned about "trying to stay afloat." However, the McCain campaign has accompolished a mission, this ad will be the "hot topic" on the cable news channels for the next week.

This is a waste of good money. No one sees Obama as "the one" and if they do, they need their heads examined.

Message to the McCain staffers – GET OVER IT AND DO SOMETHING POSITIVE. Enough is enough already!

McCain worked for years to get his name and face out there, going on more talk shows than any other politician, playing up his relationship with the media (even calling them "my base" in 2000) and now in the blink of an eye the media has someone they like more than McCain, someone more telegenic and far, far more articulate. So McCain turns to sour grapes and basically whines "Pay attention to me"

Laura   August 1st, 2008 4:20 pm ET

How can McCain approve this message when it only plays on a computer?

W.   August 1st, 2008 4:20 pm ET

This is shaping up to be – it's not there quite yet – the dirtiest campaign run by a major Presidential candidate in the history of the office. Even worse: it's working.

Jostle me when "White Hands, Part 2: Helms/Mccain Boogaloo" meets my TV screen.

ryan   August 1st, 2008 4:20 pm ET

what a truly disgusting man John McCain is, and what a truly disgusting entity is the modern republican party. There's no such thing as a "low-road" when you're always willing to go lower.

Mark Garcia   August 1st, 2008 4:20 pm ET

McCain is "The geriatric One"

Ping   August 1st, 2008 4:20 pm ET

I'd definitely vote for the candidate who only focuses on preaching his own policy and ideas without attacking other competitors. Unfortunately there is none.

commonsense   August 1st, 2008 4:19 pm ET

i have yet to see an ad from Mccain talking JUST about himself. Hes dedicated more talk to Barack Obama then he has for himself.

I think Angelina Jolie's new born are the ones the world had been waiting for, the way media projects it.

McCain is allowing 25 years of decent service to go right down the drain with his garbage politics as usual. Shame on him.

Independent for Obama

Lynnette   August 1st, 2008 4:19 pm ET

McCain has truly lost his marbles. This ad is beyond stupid.

Ed, Santa Fe, NM   August 1st, 2008 4:19 pm ET

so that makes McBush THE ZERO?

Stupid no-content ads from McBush only prove the loser's desperation.

TEXAS TRAIL DOG WONT HUNT!   August 1st, 2008 4:19 pm ET

Now that is rich. Wonder if it will help McCain. Wonder what the response will be. Hope they show McCain looking 8 years older with us still in troops still in Iraq saying "only 92 more years to go and we will have them beat".

empty vessel   August 1st, 2008 4:19 pm ET

It would have been more effective if it included Chris Matthews (who SHOULD be non-partisan as he is the MODERATOR of a panel show on MSDNC) saying that he get's a feeling down his leg when the "chosen one" speaks.

They could have thrown in Hillary rightfully mocking the "celestial choirs" speech that she CORRECTLY gave in regards to the "unproven one".

Hillary and Bill were right about everything they said about this phony and the swooning media is culpable in ME as a Republican, THANKING you for you all being part and parcel for not nominating the FAR, FAR superior Clinton, but this empty vessel.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory Dems, again……..

nginda hiram   August 1st, 2008 4:19 pm ET

plain wrong.Sound sto me that they are mocking GOD.

Henry   August 1st, 2008 4:19 pm ET

Just how dumb do they think independent voters are ? The ONLY "positive" angle I can see in this would be that they are trying to make his popularity into a joke, something to laugh at and not take serious….

Somehow I don't think Senator Obama will be the one laughed at…Grand pa is lame and boring and so are his ads and ideas.

Carlos   August 1st, 2008 4:19 pm ET

Why does he keep telling us why we shouldn't like Obama rather than why we should like him! Where are the issues. This is clearly just becoming a spear campaign. Shame on McCain. I know he's better than this. And of course Obama SEEMS ELITIST, HE'S RUNNING FOR ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL POSITIONS IN THE WORLD WHERE YOUR'RE PRETTY MUCH SAYING YOU'RE CAN DO A BETTER JOB OF RUNNING THIS COUNTRY THAN MILLIONS OF OTHER AMERICANS. MCCAIN IS AN ELITIST AS WELL, YOU HAVE TO BE TO BE PRESIDENT.

sad   August 1st, 2008 4:19 pm ET

Ok this is just getting ridiculous. I think Mcain will discredit himself if he keeps alowing ads like this to run. This is just as crazy as the youtube video of the "Oprah Cult" lol..pathetic

Wow, now the GOP gets to use religion negatively for votes. Can they have it both ways? Isn't it great to see the GOP squirm for a change!

Melvin   August 1st, 2008 4:19 pm ET

Why isn't anyone dunning ads on how McCain left his handicapped wife for a rich younger Cindy? Is that leadership we want?

I don't if Mc Cains crew of deft handlers relize it or not but his main base of voters are card carring christans. To use this type of hypocrasy is going too far. John you are going to loose your base if this continues. Shame on you.

makifat   August 1st, 2008 4:19 pm ET

Apparently McCain is going for the "sour grapes" vote, attacking his candidate for being well spoken and likable.

I see an Obama commercial in the future, with clips of the "Maverick" sucking up to Bush and the Religious Right and anyone else who can move his campaign along.

Or maybe an Obama video called "The OLD One", playing off the Charlton Heston imagery. Sample narration: "Senator, I knew Moses. Moses was a friend of mine. You're no Moses!"

Does McCain really want to play this game?

Fred   August 1st, 2008 4:19 pm ET

He is the ONE!!!

At least the one Im voting for.

Lisa   August 1st, 2008 4:19 pm ET

Now that's a good one Mccain!!!

Come out fighting!!!

Martha (Dunwwody, GA)   August 1st, 2008 4:18 pm ET

Has it ever occurred to either candidate, especially McCain, that WE don't care about the ads? Americans are more concerned about "trying to stay afloat." However, the McCain campaign has accompolished a mission, this ad will be "hot topic" on the cable news channels for the next week.

This is a waste of good money. No one sees Obama as "the one" and if they do, they need their head examined.

Message to the McCain staffers – GET OVER IT AND DO SOMETHING POSITIVE. Enough is enough already!

dark days   August 1st, 2008 4:18 pm ET

Disgusting. Plain and simple.

Bob Indianapolis, IN   August 1st, 2008 4:18 pm ET

SO, now instead of dealing with substantive issues like the war [he's for 100 years] and the economy [about which he knows nothingn being married to an heiress and having friends who call Americans "a bunch of whiners"] we're quoting the "gospel" of "THE MATRIX"???? What the hell is your campaign smoking???

christi   August 1st, 2008 4:18 pm ET

My God…(no pun intended), is this all his campaign will do is put out totally ridiculous ads? I find it pathetic and disgusting. It is as if the man is possessed! I have never disliked John McCain and have always felt that even though a Republican, seemed a stand-up guy. I am extremely disappointed that he and his campaign have sunk to this level. Even though I will vote for Obama, if I was a Republican, I would never be able to vote for him. I am beginning to question the man's sanity and integrity. So pathetic.

Jon Hoffmann   August 1st, 2008 4:18 pm ET

If he just puts out a few more ads like this, his "Road to The White House" will be vritually non-existant.

They won the week by insulting our intelligence with lies and distortion (troop visit, make opponent responsible for high gas prices, interpret and whip out a race card from comments opponents has been making for months to appeal to everyone of us that has felt uncomfortable about being potentially accused ratially in the past, equate a sitting senator to teenage celebrity).

That is why we are where we are today – republican, democrat, PUMA, or whatever we call ourself. It is the negatives inside us which responds to these things that make them successful. You would think our pockets will teach us something after 8 years of poor leadership.

A Brick   August 1st, 2008 4:18 pm ET

I cannot believe that McCain would fall to this level. VERY unfortunate…..

Jeff, AL   August 1st, 2008 4:18 pm ET

That's a good ad. It draws out the feelings of a lot of Americans about Obama. Many think he has been "chosen" by the party leaders and given this "messiah-like" persona. And he lives that life of celebrity and grand speeches. A lot of hype and not much substance.

Arona   August 1st, 2008 4:18 pm ET

oh yeh he is the one …..so .

MinnesotaBluezz   August 1st, 2008 4:18 pm ET

Obama's popularity is definitely causing the McCain camp to take dirty blows. And what does he mean "he can do know wrong," he is scrutinized by REP about every step he takes (that's just it–they want obama to sit down) .

Obama is just a well spoken guy running for office–who wants to be the tool for americans in making a change in old politics. Mccain is old politics.

CW in DC   August 1st, 2008 4:18 pm ET

"On a flight to Panama City Florida, McCain senior adviser Nicolle Wallace told reporters that the video had been designed as a bookend to what the campaign believed had been a very successful week."
_______________________________________________________

I guess that just reinforces what McCain said about being proud to be throwing out dirty tactics all week long. The said part is – this garbage worked yet again. This would be a good time to find that button that says – "Beam me up Scotty, there is no intelligent life down here!"

Sait   August 1st, 2008 4:18 pm ET

Are these guys actually serious? Do they think the American public are a bunch of muppets?

Ash   August 1st, 2008 4:18 pm ET

Oh my goodness. That is one of the most pathetic, whining, child-like political ads I have ever seen! Come on! He is trying to play off the idiotic idea that some have that Obama is the anti-christ. McCain has stooped to low, low levels with this one. Between this ad and the one with Paris Hilton, how does anyone take his arguments seriously? Sad that this is all that McCain can come up with!

Bob from Kentucky   August 1st, 2008 4:18 pm ET

Hey CNN, why are you supporting McCain so much lately. It is obvious. He makes mistake after mistake after mistake on TV yet you rarely focus on this. Right now on your news show , he is barely making sense in his answers to reporters!! He lies constantly-he even has the nerve to say he is proud of his negative campaign and now he won't even admit that his campaign has false information in it???? Where is your fact checking CNN?? Thank goodness for FACT CHECK .ORG. Although McCain just mentioned that he pays no mind to websites he doesn't know…HUH????

Ha ha ha ha, this is hilarious. And Obama has no comeback since he himself said "this is the moment the world has been waiting for…". Although it does seem a bit sacrilegious. I would have preferred he go with the Matrix theme rather than the Messianic theme.

Debra   August 1st, 2008 4:17 pm ET

The drop in the polls is only representing the Clinton people leaving Obama after Clinton was not picked as VP.
Obama wouln't have gotten this far if he had been white. There were plenty of experienced white guys to choose from and they all lost out early on. John Edwards is a prime example. Clinton was a strong contender but couldn't compete when 95% of blacks were voting for Obama because he was black. If Obama was not black he never would have gotten 95% of the black vote. Clinton would have gotten most of it due to her and her husbands work in the black communities and during Katrina. Wake up and get the facts straight.
Obama is pulling the race card because public opinion in the US now is against racism. By him continually bringing up that he is an underdog because of his race, he is trying to make people think that somehow he is being discriminated against if someone doesn't vote for him or if he loses. That is not true. He is just trying to make his race work to his advantage.
Obama could still fix this if he picked Hillary as VP

OBAMA '08

bridgette   August 1st, 2008 4:17 pm ET

That ad is sacreligious. There should be a limit. They keep talking Obama is a muslim after this commercial I don't think McCain believes in God at all. As a Christian I am offended by this add. I think this goes beyond race or anything else. I think this is an all time low for all time lows. I was impressed by McCain at the beginning of this campaign, but, he has let these neocon conservatives take over his campaign. I think that they have such a high opionion of Obama themselves that it is scares them. This is the kind of slime that will run this country if he wins.

The funny thing is he is distancing himself from the base that he is so desparately trying to get with this commercial.

Sarah   August 1st, 2008 4:17 pm ET

This might be funny, if it wasn't that most Americans still remember Bush coming out years ago and saying he was chosen by God.

Even if some people do think Obama is like a "messiah," the candidate doesn't have control over that. This is like saying McCain is a racist because some of his crazy supporters are. Luckily, the Obama campaign has never stooped so low as to criticize McCain because of what McCain's supporters do and believe.

joel   August 1st, 2008 4:17 pm ET

Thanks Mccain!!! That's exactly what we need, more cynicism. Isn't the mocking of someone's belief a form of elitism?

Teena   August 1st, 2008 4:17 pm ET

McBush has now stooped to a NEW LOW–equating Brack Obama with the ani-christ is sure to fier up the evangelical chrisitians!
Can it get an worse with this campaign–have they hired Rove to develop their ads?
As a progressive Christian, I am appaled!

Anonymous   August 1st, 2008 4:17 pm ET

Right out of the Hillary Clinton playbook.

"The skies will open up . . ."

Heaven forbid that a president be too smart, too capable, too popular, too well-liked, too inspirational, etc. What kills me is that this kind of trash works. Don't kid yourselves into believing it doesn't.

Danielle, NY   August 1st, 2008 4:17 pm ET

The Straight Talk Express has gone TOO FAR. The Republican Campaign is making a mockery and a joke of John McCain…after all the candidate does not speak for his campaign…

Paula, CA   August 1st, 2008 4:17 pm ET

Good job taking the low road McSame! In light of your recent induction as a disciple of Karl Rove, I am sure your master is proud of you.

Enough of this, Americans desperately need solutions and policies that will address the influx of issues that we deal with on a daily basis. We need real answers and REAL change!

Obama '08

ia voter   August 1st, 2008 4:17 pm ET

I'm going to be honest, I thought this was a joke when I first read it. The sad thing is, negative ads work, and they're working right now. It's too bad that McCain is spending his small amount of money producing and running ads that say nothing about what he'll do for the country. And it's even more too bad that the average American voter is completely responsive to these sorts of ads.

John P.   August 1st, 2008 4:17 pm ET

It's taking awhile, but all the hype around Obama is really wearing thin. He's an empty suit with an ego running in whatever direction the polls and his handlers tell him to. I find it interesting that during the primary all Hillary needed to do was be herself (If she is capable even) and she would've won. All Obama has had to do is run away from his true self and follow this messiah thing to win. Typical Liberal Fantasy Land.

How is he different than any other NeoCom out there? Seriously. Tell me.

AJ   August 1st, 2008 4:17 pm ET

This is ridiculous. McCain and his campaign and the RNC need to find something else to do. Seriously. Do they not have ANYTHING else to do but create inflammatory ads to tear down Obama!?!

I hear the Republicans are hiring Karl Rove to do his dirt again this election season. I guess this is just the beginning of the Repub. smear campaign. But I'm afraid to see how much nastier it's going to get…

JB   August 1st, 2008 4:16 pm ET

Obama 08′

Phantom of the Oprah   August 1st, 2008 4:16 pm ET

OBAMA HIMSELF PRESENTED THIS IMAGE- I am perfect, with perfect judgment… do not parse my words… let me clarify… I can not be questioned nor criticized… I will save the country and the world.

He encouraged a cult following. They defend their fuhrer whenever he is questioned or criticized.

They ran a slick, image-oriented, internet propaganda campaign to manipulate the people and the media through perception.

He encouraged African Americans to flock over based on race- at a rate of 90% or more support. And he encourged them to threaten to black out the vote if he was not installed as the nominee by the democratic party and DNC.

Obama encourages his thugs to inflame the racial tensions to gain him even more votes.

Obama encouraged his cult following to disrespect and trash HRC- Obama himself mocked, jeered and ridiculed Hillary Clinton.

Did he seriously think that dividing the democratic party would work to HIS benefit in the end? I guess if you are gambling that this year ALL Americans will vote against the R and pull the lever for the D candidate. But Obama is such a POOR choice, that he may lose it for the Democrats even in the year of the "D" lever faze.

Lourdes   August 1st, 2008 4:16 pm ET

Glad to see they still have no substantive criticisms and nothing good to say about their own candidate!!

Obama 08!

Chicago Architect   August 1st, 2008 4:16 pm ET

This is quite sick. I can't believe that this campaign and the GOP can stoop this low.

I hope America can see this as a trick and fear mongering ploy that it really is. I thought only 3rd world countries and uneducated people can be strong-armed and manipulated by messages like this. I really hope that the American people are smarter than to believe in this.

Wake up America, this is fear mongering at its best. Please don't fall for it. You are smarter than this!

cedric   August 1st, 2008 4:16 pm ET

wow!! talk about psychological manipulation, McCain is doing everything he said he wouldn't do this election year, and he is doing it the ultra social conservative way. All he has to do next is have a commercial with hunters giving their opinion of Obama. Man the gloves are on the floor now. This is getting sadder everyday

Enlightened Voter   August 1st, 2008 4:16 pm ET

I just watched mccain on cnn live. What a spectacle. First he couldn't remember the reporters' questions who just finished asking it and then he out and out lied about supporting the MLK holiday which we all know he voted against. This man is a sham and anyone who votes for this deserves the america they get.

Dem08   August 1st, 2008 4:16 pm ET

I will support the democratic nominee in November, whomever it might be..However, Obama is the only one to blame for the " attacks" being thrown at him. He has ran a campaign where he was put on a pedistal, he used the media adoration to destroy a more experianced and qualified candidate, and now he is having his tactic turned on him. American's do not like pomp. I do not feel that Obama is truly an elitist or celeberity, but he has allowed his king makers to do this to him. The American people do not care about his race, ( ok, some will), but they do care if he comes across as "the chosen one". Americans believe people should work to get to the top and many do not see Obama as a person that has worked very hard to be the leader of the free world. Sad to say, but my party went with the popular choice, but not the best choice. The Obama campaign needs a Clinton to balance him. Obama supporters hate this, but many democrats are willing to take the chance on the first black man, and the first women to run this country. We need Obama's obvious skills as a world leader, with Hillary's knowledge and experiance. One without the other is another disaster for the democratic party.

WOW!   August 1st, 2008 4:16 pm ET

This is the most scurrilous add in American political history.

The implication is obvious… McCain wants to scare people into thinking Obama might be the Antichrist.

This is so offensive it's beyond the pale and McCain should apologize immediately.

American presidential politics sinks to a new low… you should be ashamed of yourself Senator McCain!

Tim   August 1st, 2008 4:16 pm ET

Senator McCain you have crossed the line and insulted Christians everywhere with this add. You have hit a new low!!!

Tom,Michigan   August 1st, 2008 4:16 pm ET

If one puts the microscope on these "so-called" educated people one would find nothing but a bunch of pure charlatans and self prophesied quacks like their candidate himself.

Bob from Kentucky   August 1st, 2008 4:15 pm ET

November can't come fast enough!!!!!

JoelWhy   August 1st, 2008 4:15 pm ET

I just watched the ad on McCain's site. It borders between being patently offensive and entirely pointless.

I think that, just as the Republicans painted John Kerry as being an out-of-touch elitist, they are trying to make Obama appear to have a God-complex. Seems like a pretty weak strategy to me, but we'll see how much the media eats this up and regurgitates it.

David, Silver Spring MD   August 1st, 2008 4:15 pm ET

Andy in Texas   August 1st, 2008 4:14 pm ET

These attacks against Obama as the "annointed one" from Republicans whose leader told the world that God wanted him to be president?

TS, Texas   August 1st, 2008 4:14 pm ET

Proof once again that there may be a limit to good taste, but there's no limit to bad taste.

Me   August 1st, 2008 4:14 pm ET

McCain is a SICKO.

A Nightingale Sings in Berkley Square   August 1st, 2008 4:14 pm ET

Great, this will probably bring in the evangelical vote! Thanks!

sue   August 1st, 2008 4:14 pm ET

this is not a JOKE TO ME.

PEOPLE ARE SUFFEREING AND MCCAIN IS MAKING JOKES!!

LF   August 1st, 2008 4:14 pm ET

This is beyond silly. It is disgusting. Grumpy McSame is pouting and having a tantrum because he is no match for a guy who has a plan and support. Go take a nap!

Dr.Mimi De La Cruz for OBAMA   August 1st, 2008 4:14 pm ET

MCSHAME AT IT AGAIN !!!

ALTHOUGH THE CHOICE IS DIFFICULT,

WE THINK HE IS THE ONE. ACTUALLY I LIED.

WE KNOW HE IS THE ONE. & IT ISN'T MUCH OF A CHOICE.

A GERIATRIC BUSH ISN'T EXACTLY WHAT WE WERE LOOKING FOR.

AMGC   August 1st, 2008 4:14 pm ET

Huh? Wha? 'Scuse me?

This is some weird political strategy.
I think it confuses more than it helps/hinders McCain or Obama.

Talk about the issues, that's what we want to hear, that's how we make our decision in November.

Jeanine G   August 1st, 2008 4:14 pm ET

OMG! This is too much. When will McCain start telling us HOW he plans on doing ANYTHING rather then tell us why he hates Obama?

tonyleap   August 1st, 2008 4:14 pm ET

Ok, enough is enough McCain. Time to respond in kind. The gloves must come off!

m.   August 1st, 2008 4:14 pm ET

Can they talk about what is important for voters. NO, all they do is go lower and lower with attacks, Shame of McCain.

Wow   August 1st, 2008 4:14 pm ET

So now Senator McCain is making fun of Christianity to score political points?

Peggy, PA   August 1st, 2008 4:13 pm ET

How TRASHY is this.

Really incredible.

michael, Gladstone, MO   August 1st, 2008 4:13 pm ET

So this is what McCain is all about? This campaign looks like it is being run by seventh graders with a YouTube fetish. With decades of public service, one would expect that McCain could find something positive to higlight about himself.

It makes me wonder if the Bush "loaner" crew for MCain's campaign isn't more concerned with loyalty to the big guy and securing W's "legacy" through McCain's presidential bid. No wonder people are getting sick of the presidential season.

Susan, PA   August 1st, 2008 4:13 pm ET

here comes the GOP machine.

Beware Dems.

DJ, LA, CA   August 1st, 2008 4:13 pm ET

That's awfully offensive to not just Obama but giving false testimony, as well as slander to Christians.

Time for some McCain blowback. Make sure you don't spit in the wind McShame.

arun   August 1st, 2008 4:13 pm ET

McCain's report card

Leadership skill … none.
Vision … none
economic acumen … none
ability to generate baseless garbage … excellent

President of the United States ? I do not think so.

Axel   August 1st, 2008 4:13 pm ET

McCain has completely lost it. This is lunacy.

cherrystrawberry   August 1st, 2008 4:13 pm ET

McCain is pathetic. I hope and Pray comes out with an AD about mcCains Age. Its time to take the kid gloves off OBAMA! They are swiftboating you. YOU CANT IGNORE IT!

Candice - TN   August 1st, 2008 4:13 pm ET

Sounds like McCain is jealous of Obama's popularity, his genious clarity on the issues, and the fact that he is going to win.

Being salty is never cute McCain. Green is definitely not your color.

Obama 08

Greg, San Francisco, CA   August 1st, 2008 4:13 pm ET

McCain is getting disgusting. I think he has a serious 'man-crush' on Obama. To paraphrase Biden's dig on Giuliani, all McCain can must is a noun a verb and Barack Obama.

Bob from Kentucky   August 1st, 2008 4:13 pm ET

If the Obama campaign mocked religiion in this fashion, then would the McCain campaign find it so funny?

RC   August 1st, 2008 4:12 pm ET

McCain is pathetic. Like a spoiled child not getting attention he is throwing a tantrum and mocking his opponent. Too bad he isn't mature enough to campaign with ideas instead of name calling

William   August 1st, 2008 4:12 pm ET

This ad is SICKENING. As a Christian, whether this is a movie or not, I am offended beyond belief. McCain is online right now defending this commercial and saying Obama's only plan for energy is for people to "inflate their tires." Give me a break!! Now, McCain says his campaign is not negative-with an ad like this?? LIAR!! The only reason McCain wants town hall meetings is because he is low on money and they are cheap. McCain could not compete with Obama in a crowd.

Heather Seattle, Wa   August 1st, 2008 4:12 pm ET

I find this wildly offensive.

Monroe   August 1st, 2008 4:12 pm ET

Its getting even worse. McCain, you are pathetic.

T. MCKinnley. Newport   August 1st, 2008 4:12 pm ET

That was a great scene in the movie. Charleton Heston was one of the
greatest actors who ever lived. This just may help Senator Obama.

Obama 08.

Jesus   August 1st, 2008 4:12 pm ET

Blaspheming republicans!

frankie   August 1st, 2008 4:12 pm ET

Why doesn't McCain talk about the issues in his ads? What does he stand for other than these negative attack ads?

Tom   August 1st, 2008 4:12 pm ET

I am not the most ardent Obama supporter by any means…but this McCain ad, coupled with the Paris Hilton ad, is really ridiculous and insulting to my intelligence…..I can't imagine ever voting for McCain now.

LYNETTE IN CA   August 1st, 2008 4:12 pm ET

This is so stupid, I couldn't even read the whole thing! Somebody's clearly got a wild hair in the wrong place!!!

OBAMA '08

Sane John   August 1st, 2008 4:12 pm ET

Out of curiosity, is McCain capable of running an ad that doesn't make Obama out to be a great and popular guy?

Is Obama paying McCain for these?

Uncle Sam   August 1st, 2008 4:11 pm ET

PU McCain. Ask for your money back, you just got taken. LOL!!!!

Really?   August 1st, 2008 4:11 pm ET

You're kidding. This is a dignified campaign? I know it must be very frustrating that Obama does give a great speech; is actually inspirational; and consistently draws large crowds . . . but this is how you respond? By belittling these positives that ANY AMERICAN LEADER should be proud to have? You're kidding.

Could you go lower??   August 1st, 2008 4:11 pm ET

McCain could go even lower! Bravo! Running a respectable campaign indeed — what a blobbering Idi*t! He is so jealous but what does he really offer — I mean seriously, where is an ad about the issues?

Know the facts   August 1st, 2008 4:11 pm ET

It's nice to see McCain disregard the needs of American families to create more amusing ads! You're killing me McCain!! Keep up the great work!

McCain '08!

Anonymous   August 1st, 2008 4:11 pm ET

I'm speechless.

proud Democrat   August 1st, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Mccain is such a LOSER ! Why does he think we are so stupid? He is insulting our intelligence with these dumb ads. What about the economy Mccain? Oh yeah forgot you care more about Britney and Paris ( you do have a "thing" for blondes don't you?

Janel, St. Paul, MN   August 1st, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Now McCain is making fun of religion. How pathetic!!

Latinos for Obama   August 1st, 2008 4:11 pm ET

Pathetic. And these people call themselves Christian. Whatever happen to "blasphemy?"

Tennisguypitt   August 1st, 2008 4:11 pm ET

He's more qualified than you, McBush.

Very Objective Independent American   August 1st, 2008 4:11 pm ET

This is just ridiculous. What the hell is wrong with McCain? His campaign is destroying him, and frankly, giving the election to Obama on a silver platter…
How can the more experienced candidate be the more childish one?

Jeffrey in MI   August 1st, 2008 4:10 pm ET

This is so disgusting. John McCain is an idiot.

Really?   August 1st, 2008 4:10 pm ET

Now this election has become a whole bunch of crap
