Pelosi offers Veep support for House darkhorse

Nancy Pelosi had lots of praise for Rep. Chet Edwards of Texas.
Nancy Pelosi had lots of praise for Rep. Chet Edwards of Texas.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Plenty of high profile names are getting bounced around as Barack Obama’s potential running mate. But Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi may have a lesser-known candidate in mind.

Newsweek and other publications say Pelosi has been lobbying for Rep. Chet Edwards (D – Texas). The 56-year-old Edwards is a 9-term congressman representing a district in central Texas that includes President Bush’s ranch in Crawford.

In an interview Sunday, Pelosi said, “I didn't want to see a discussion of candidates for vice president without showing the House of Representatives… I just wanted people to be aware of the extraordinary credentials of Chet Edwards. And I hope he will be the nominee.”

Pelosi told ABC’s "This Week" that “for years, our colleagues have said to him, why don't you run for president? He is an extraordinarily talented person. He is a champion for veterans in the Congress. Under his leadership, we have passed, including just on Friday, the biggest increase in funding for veterans' health benefits and other benefits in the history of our country. “

Pelosi called him “talented:” and “principled.” Asked if she believed Edwards, not a household name around the country, had a chance to be picked, she said, “Well, I would certainly hope so. But, you know what? Senator Dodd, Senator Biden, Senator Hillary Clinton - there's such a great array of people from whom Senator Obama can choose. So, anyone of them, I'm fine with."

What takes so long for a moderator to screen the comments ?....the CBC is much better.....especially when you consider the quality of the comments.
Eagerly awaiting your dulcet acceptance of my opinion.

An example ?....sure........'She's the biggest loser of them all. Go away…with any luck she will lose her seat.'

Brad You can thank Bush and Cheany for the mess this country is in. True Pelosi isn't the best, but she is twice as good as Bush and Cheany put together. I'm sure if we had 60 demorcates there would have been a lot more done.

Why pick people no one has ever heard of. This is as bad as the McCain team vetting Erik Cantor, who no one has ever heard of. If they were smart, Obama would pick Edwards, and McCain would pick Huckabee. I would say that Obama should pick Hillary, but Bill Clinton would just interfere too much.

but–as much as I would dislike Hil–

AS IF anyone would vote for a Texan on the ballot (with apologies to my Texas Dem friends)...dream on Nancy. No one is listening (I hope). Hillary, Richardson or Biden, and be done with it.

Pelosi should mind her own business. She can't even handel the Senate , let alone pick the V.P. I was a democrate most of my life then went to independent. Becouse of people like Pelosi and Obama with thier lies. I would like to know why she won't bring up the bill on drilling for our own oil and why she calls recess before its voted on. This is a time our country is in big trouble. There is ways we can drill withourt hurting our country. And it would help to put America on it on ecomonic growth again. As for Obama he wants to stop the drilling, Does Obama care more about getting elected and beibg the big hero solving problems then he does the welfare of this country and the working people. Heating bill are going up again. How on earth will retired people, single family homes and people losing health insurance with cut hours and pay cuts keep worm this winter. We cant take much more in price hikes. So I dont give a dame who does what, just get it done.

Anyone who has been in the military should know a lot about Congressman Edwards. Like the article says he has worked very hard for Veterans in this Country. If you don't know who he is then visit his website and get to know him. He has been a very strong leader in the Congress since 1990. He is a great American.

At first I was pround that Pelosi was the Speaker of The House, now after seeing her in action I not so sure she is the right person for the job. Where is that grit when it cames to dealing with the President and his Republicans in Congress? That same grit Pelosi had to have had to have risen to the position of Speaker. A pushover Pelosi and her fellow Democrats have been since taking control. Just the threat of a veto has sent the Democrats scurring for cover.
I will not vote for Obama, I can't vote for McCain, I will write in Hillary for President.
The "Left Wing" of the Democratic Party will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. And if by some miracle Obama wins, then the diversity of the Democratic Party will work against them as it did during President Clinton first term. It wasn't untill the Democrats were a minority in Congress that they worked with President Clinton. The difference between Obama and President Clinton is that Clinton was at that time and still is a strong and tested leadrer, whereas Obama is not and will be found wanting.
I am willing to suffer a McCain win, if it will finally lead to a reshaping of the Democratic party, where the "Left" does not hold sway.

I simply cannot think of anyone less relevant and capable than Nancy "Her Excellency" Pelosi in our government. It is astounding that such a (once) great country cannot seem to find any better leaders than her.

It is a very sad downhill slide for America that we are all now watching, and even sadder that we contribute by our actions - and inactions - which allows dangerous nobodies like this slip into positions of power.

Pelosi is the grid in Gridlock. She's also the par in Partisan politics. The overwhelming lack of progress in washington has been mainly due to her. Pelosi is one of the worst house speaker ever! and this is coming from a san franciscan. She is the most divisive polician on the Hill at the moment and I very sorry for anyone who has to deal with her.

Pelosi needs to lose her next term. They should be ashamed not voting on off-shore drilling just to protect "the one" from being shown as the hoax he is. Who cares who Obama picks as his running mate, he is going to lose.
