Pelosi offers Veep support for House darkhorse

Nancy Pelosi had lots of praise for Rep. Chet Edwards of Texas.
Nancy Pelosi had lots of praise for Rep. Chet Edwards of Texas.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Plenty of high profile names are getting bounced around as Barack Obama’s potential running mate. But Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi may have a lesser-known candidate in mind.

Newsweek and other publications say Pelosi has been lobbying for Rep. Chet Edwards (D – Texas). The 56-year-old Edwards is a 9-term congressman representing a district in central Texas that includes President Bush’s ranch in Crawford.

In an interview Sunday, Pelosi said, “I didn't want to see a discussion of candidates for vice president without showing the House of Representatives… I just wanted people to be aware of the extraordinary credentials of Chet Edwards. And I hope he will be the nominee.”

Pelosi told ABC’s "This Week" that “for years, our colleagues have said to him, why don't you run for president? He is an extraordinarily talented person. He is a champion for veterans in the Congress. Under his leadership, we have passed, including just on Friday, the biggest increase in funding for veterans' health benefits and other benefits in the history of our country. “

Pelosi called him “talented:” and “principled.” Asked if she believed Edwards, not a household name around the country, had a chance to be picked, she said, “Well, I would certainly hope so. But, you know what? Senator Dodd, Senator Biden, Senator Hillary Clinton - there's such a great array of people from whom Senator Obama can choose. So, anyone of them, I'm fine with."

Given the state of the union, the democratic nominee should be leading by 15+ points but Mr. Obama has failed to capture the support of the democratic base and, despite his popular media coverage, is NOT a shoe-in for the presidency. I do not think he can win without adding Mrs. Clinton and her 18 million democratic base supporters to the ticket. America needs the dream ticket – with it we could have 24 years (2 terms each), of democratic presidents – and we will need every minute of that to turn this country around.

IF ANYONE LISTENS TO THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF PELOSIS THEY ARE FOR SURE BORN LOSERS AND NOT A PERSON THE AMERICAN PUBLIC WOULD WANT IN PUBLIC OFFICE. WE DON'T WANT OBAMA, KENNEDY, KERRY, RICHARDSON, BYRD OR ANY OF THE OTHER CROOKED POLITICIANS WHO HAVE BEEN IN OFFICE FOR THE PAST 20-YEARS. EDWARDS IS A NOBODY AND WILL STAY A NOBODY. IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER WHO OBAMA CHOOSES. WHOMEVER IT IS WILL BE RUINING THEIR POLITICAL CAREER. WHO WANTS TO BE ON A TICKET WITH A COORK, LIAR, DECEIVER, AND TERRORIST SUPPORTER.

What Speaker Pelosi should offer is her disgraceful resignation. The stunt that was pulled last week only solidifies why many Americans (who support both parties) have little interest in the politics in this country. Democrats don't get it... Republicans don't get it... we hard-working Americans DO get it.... and we who know how to balance a checkbook are completely aware of the problems this Congress AND White House have pushed onto us. It's really sad... I thought this was the United States of America.

I hope the Congressional members enjoy their paid vacation (at yet our expense)... They have certainly earned it haven't they??

Yes...Please follow Pelosi's advice. With her excellent leadership, the Dems have accomplished major objectives. No wait, what have they actually done? Nothing. She proves everyday why America should not vote Democrat. It's all empty promises.

Pelosi is a very strange and secretly controlling woman. Now that Obama wants "full" seating of Florid and Michigan, if you keep the Edwards delegates neutral, suddenly Hillary Clinton got the most pledged delegates. Will Pelosi then reiterate her stance that superdelegates shouldn't override the pledged delegates' decision? Will she go against the popular vote? How much of a hypocrite is Pelosi?

i don't blame pelosi or the dems at all for their inability to get things done because if you republican waco's remembered who the president was, and how powerful his veto pen was, then you'd understand their delima. It's always comical to hear a neo-con try to place the blame on others for their own failures, but guess what? In this election it won't work, so get ready for a bloody nov 4th, and possibly the end of your party...

Obama cannot win without Clinton who happens to represent half of the Democratic party, won eighteen million votes, carries all the groups he does not and is one helluva campaigner! I am one of the eighteen million and we are all sitting on our hands and our pocketbooks just waiting to LEAP to support the dream ticket! And please don't refer to "problems with Bill" ...! If Barack is planning to be the leader of the free world, he can certainly handle a successful , former Democratic president who agrees with him on all the issues and will campaign like heck for him anywhere he needs him! And "Change"? I think the first woman Vice President of the United States is a little bitty change don't you ? To say nothing of the fact that she has brought about hundreds of changes, changes for the better in healthcare ,education, veteran benefits, the environment, you name it. Her middle name is change. Now, let's put two armies together and take over the White House!

If yiou guys understands the government system and the way it works you will not be barking like a dog. Everything needed to be voted on. You got stupid republicans in the senate wanting everything democratic to fail, for their own benefits. Unless we as Americans are stupid enough to see the light then go get yourself a blanket, get as a bed and go to sleep because you are ignorant and lost. you can't take an inteligent minority man? missing the common principles of american life.

I just watched Nancy Pelosi on C-Span. OMG what a stupe. Congress has a 9% approval rating. An approval rating below Bush's. She just brushed on Brian's question and said the Democratic approval rating was at its all time high. OMG this woman is so elitist and out of touch. But then again look who elects her.

Pelosi has absolutely no credibility. This Democrat led Congress has done nothing; that's why they have a less than 10% approval rating in a most recent poll! Oh, she did shut off the lights and mics on C-Span on Friday so they couldn't talk about lifting the ban on off shore drilling! She is a JOKE!!!!! P.S. Obama now says he may favor off shore drilling; flip flop, anyone?!

Nancy you amoral shill, you and Howard Dean show partisan favoring in skewing the primary against Hillary. Howard and you need to resign from party leadership, not speak up on issues of a national ticket. I may vote for Obama bit no democrat will get any more of my money as long as Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean are running the party.
