A Democrat 18 years in Congress in the heart of Dub-Republicans.

Central Texas cannot afford to lose Chet. Even local veterans voted for him (vets for chet) as he fought strongly for the Waco VA hospital.

Chet's seat would easily fall to a Republican. District 17 was one of the main reasons Tom Delay and his cronies restructured the Texas districts a few years back and the only reason why it's stayed Democrat is Chet.

This is the same reason why, sadly, Jim Webb cannot be the VP choice. It would be another lost seat.

I'm surprised that Speaker Pelosi is even willing to show her face in public after telling the American people that they don't need domestic oil production (by adjourning the House of Representatives without holding a vote on off-shore drilling).

Let's see what we have from the Democrat controlled Congress:

No end to funding what she and her cohorts call the "unjust war," no accountability for those Representatives in her party who are under investigation for corruption (Rep. William Jefferson), no lower gas prices.... Is there anything that the Democratic Congress delivered on that they promised from the 2006 elections?

She needs to go. Hopefully the voting public in her district will be smart enough to see it, or the next Congress will be smart enough not to reelect her as the Speaker of the House.

Having known Chet Edwards during his tenure as an aide to Congressman Tiger Teague, then as a State Senator, and finally as a member of Congress,....I can say without question that Chet would make a great VP! He cares about the people in his district, and is not afraid to buck the party line when necessary.

Perhaps Pelosi should run for president in 2012. That way the republicans can expose what a true fraud she is and maybe then, Americans will open their eyes to reality.

I am a proud democrat but she has NO idea how to represent the will of moral citizens. That of course, makes her a great candidate for a mayorial position in San Francisco.

Much as I admire Madame Speaker, I think she is speaking out of turn.

Obama should choose the running-mate most likely to ensure victory over McCain. The vice-presidency is not an award for prior good works.

By this standard, I believe that Obama should re-examine Senator Clinton. I was originally an Edwards supporter. But all Democrats now have to focus on the only question that matters.

How do we redeem America's honor? It is certainly not by allowing a hate-mongering smear artist like John McCain to win the presidency.
