"Drill here, drill now," McCain said Monday.

(CNN) - Presumptive Republican nominee John McCain called Monday for immediate congressional action on the nation’s energy crisis, joining a call by his Republican colleagues for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to call legislators back from their August recess for a special session.

The Arizona senator said he would return to vote on any proposal. McCain has missed Senate votes since April, including several involving major energy measures – one of which, a summer gas tax holiday, was a standard element of his spring stump speech.

I would like to remind Senator McCain that victory in Iraq has already been achieved. May 1, 2003, on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln, under a banner saying "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED," President Bush announced that combat operations in Iraq have ended. Bush said; "Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed.

EVERYTHING ABOUT MCCAIN IS WEAK.

By the way, oil analysts are positive about Obama's policy that he laid out today. They believe that a tapping of the Strategic Reserve could drop oil to $80/ barrel and could knock 60 cents/gallon off the price of gas.

So, who is thinking and who is reacting?
After eight years of a President who reacted but did not think, isn't it time for a change?

What is it you're hoping to achieve by writing the same thing, Senator Barack Obama's middle name, as if someone is supposed to, what, become fearful of his middle name? Or, think about that OLD, TIRED LIE that's been circulating on the internet about him being a muslim? Didn't you see your Clown-in-Chief's web/tv ad? Remember, he is now trying to use Moses IN HIS ATTACK AD AGAINST SENATOR OBAMA. JUST SO YOU KNOW, MOSES, who was "chosen" by God to help the Israelites cross over into the promised land, who is also all through the Torah, which is used by the Jewish version of the bible, WOULD NOW MAKE IT TOTALLY STUPID not to mention inconsitent FOR YOU TO TRY TO INSTILL THE "Senator Obama is a muslim FEAR CRAP" across this and other blogs. Or, I like the other alternative, you and McCain and the rest of the folks that want to try to continue with that lie are COMPLETE IDIOTS BECAUSE McCAIN'S MOSES AD SAYS DIFFERENT. In short, Moses was NOT A MUSLIM IDIOT! Or, didn't those children who are now running McCain's campaign Karl Rove style, think of that!

Look how worse we are now from 2 years ago. Blame it on Bush, like the President has that much power. Mike in MN   August 4th, 2008 5:53 pm ET

McCain missing a vote does not compare to all the Democrates taking a holiday while we continue to pay through the nose for gas. Maybe McCain could be falted if the bill failed by 1 vote, but one more vote would not have prevented it from being defeated by the Democrates who do not want us to pay less for gas. They want more Americans to struggle to make ends meet. That way more Americans will vote for Democrates, the party that promises hand outs to the poor, not a way out. The Democrates need to keep the majority of Amerians poor to maintain their voter base.
But the Republicans and McCain are wasting their time demanding that the Demorcates come back and get something done. The Democrates weren't getting anyting done anyway. Nothing will happen until 08 when McCain and the Republicans take back Washington.

Lesley   August 4th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

McCain is too busy working on his negative campaign to vote even for his own bill on the gas tax holiday. Proof positive that he's all talk and no action! Missing several votes on energy measures means that McCain didn't think the energy problem was a crisis until he read it in the polls. Somebody in his campaign needs to let him in on the really important stuff going on in the country.

Wow, I used to have some respect for Sen. McCain. He seemed like one of the few guys on the right willing to reach across the aisle and keep things civil.

This campaign has removed all of that. He has become the typical pandering hypocrite the Republicans seem to trot out on a regular basis.

Just worry about the short term right Senator? That (and the ridiculous pro-big oil, anti-consumer policies of your party since Reagan) are what got us into this mess.

I keep seeing the right-wingers say "country above party"......and when has your side EVER practiced that? I thought that was what would make McCain different but he knew he had to pander to Rush, Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Anne Coulter, Ralph Reed, and the others in order to have a chance.

Both of these guys running for president are definitely not the sharpest knives in the drawer. McCain wants to cut taxes on gasoline, so that Americans can supposedly continue their addiction to oil, while Obama wants to use some of the strategic oil reserves. These are two really dumb ideas. The strategic reserves should be kept for a really serious situation, while cutting taxes on gasoline hardly does anything to save motorists money since the money will not be spent for the upkeep of the infrastructure (road, bridges, potholes, etc.) that their cars run on.

Christie, PA   August 4th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

Well, they had better not re-convene on a weekeknd because they will be s- out of luck, John McCain is not about to interrupt his weekend to go to the Senate floor and cast a vote. Remember, he's off on the weekends, every weekend; he only works from his home to do his tired radio broadcast, and that's only when he has some new juvenile attack ad he and his campaign want to lodge against Senator Obama! During the week, it's "play time" for John McCain and he sits back and amuses himself over the stupid campaign ads his low road express staff put out. He should be running for Clown-in-Chief, a vote he would surely win!

Bill Gazitano   August 4th, 2008 5:19 pm ET

This is a typical Bush tactic that McCain embraces. Make a quick and urgent vote on an issue that has long term consequences. Usually, it is on a political issue that congress thinks will make them look weak or ineffective, so they cave in. Barack Obama has shown courage in his willingness to compromise to get a more comprehensive bill in place. He is the only one proposing ideas that would provide short term relief in conjunction with long term strategies that the oil companies would prefer we ignore. Now it the time to make a difference. We are at a cross roads regarding our energy policy between fulfilling the wishes of the bush – oil industry dreams and embracing new and bold proposals for renewable energy that will break our dependency on foreign oil. If oil and gas prices slide down now, we cannot afford complacency. History has proven that the market place alone will not solve this problem. We ignored all the warnings, Detroit made gas guzzlers and fought efforts for electric cars in California in the late 90's, and did not allow consumers to have that choice, once they succeeded in rolling back the California laws for zero emission vehicles.

Erin in Edmonds WA   August 4th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

The reason why McCain is saying this now is because he wants to look presidential. Perhaps someone with a camera can take pictures of he hand his wife at the "Cow Chip Festival" or whatever it is they are at today–with bikini clad women, beer, and lots of rough housing. If he wanted it this badly, he'd put down his beer, and get his rear end to Washington and make the call from a much bigger platform–but he won't, he doesn't want to miss the half-naked girls in the mud wrestling ring. I'd also like to know what he was doing when he wasn't voting for FISA, the GI benefits bill, etc, etc. probably snoring under a porno magazine on the McSame Express....

Bob   August 4th, 2008 5:17 pm ET

How many Americans know that for the past two years the Democrats have held the majority in Congress? The Democrats earned that majority with great fanfare on the promise they would get out of Iraq right away and bring about prosperity for all. I'd like to know how their plan is going so far. It is interesting that in the time the Democrats have taken over Congress that the cost of a barrel of oil is now more than double what it was two years ago. If this is the change that Democrats bring to government leadership then we are in for much worse should the junior senator from Illinois become president.

I fell ashamed for John McCain. In2000, I was proud that there was an American hero running for president. A man who kept his focus on the issues American families were needing. I could not believe that he did not attempt to protect his wife's reputation from the Bush / Rove slander. Nor did he stand up for his fellow Viet Nam veterans when the Republican National Committee attack him through them. One would think that eight years later, given the opportunity to run again, he would display the character we had hoped for back then. But wrong, not only has he failed to bring honor to himself, he has allowed his name to be used to destroy another simply because he would challenge the Republicans. Obama may not be the best candidate, but he appears to be the only man with any self pride and dignity.

Aaron Hussein   August 4th, 2008 5:10 pm ET

OIL OIL OIL OIL. That's all he stands for. He's been bought by the oil companies just like Bush and Cheney. America wake up!!! McCain will not seek alternative energy solutions. He's saying anything to get elected. The world is revolving around oil. The rich oil men are ruling this world. WHY isn't anyone asking McCain HOW drilling now will help? Pundit after pundit on your station has said it won't and he just keeps getting to say it. By not calling him on it every time he says it, you are in effect affecting future policy. People are uninformed and you are not informing them.!

Joseph, Los Angeles California   August 4th, 2008 5:07 pm ET

The White House has already rejected the idea of the House reconveining for a vote/debate on energy policy. White House will not support the republicans in making such a move. McCain should back off of this and stop the negative attacks. He's missed more votes than any Senator anyway.

Ratgurl   August 4th, 2008 5:06 pm ET

Uh, if you couldn't make time for the initially scheduled event, why should concessions be made for you after the fact? I have some very informative news for you, Mr. McCain; the world does NOT revolve around you!

I think every American who voted for GW the second time should vote for Barack. Why? They are the reason we went to Iraq, more soldiers died, we have an unjust Justice Department, etc. They owe the American people a climate of change, not the same old thing, such as a McCain presidency.

It’s just juvenile, McCain mocking Obama's statement regarding practicing good maintenance on our cars. I have heard from tons of experts that practicing good maintenance on you car does help increase gas mileage. Obama was just stating how the American people can also help themselves during this energy crisis and instead of just waiting for government to fix it.

Oh...but McCain must of forgot his own "healthcare plan" statement about preventing skin cancer....use sunscreen. Because everyone knows that McCain has not healthcare plan...except every man, woman and child for themselves.

So McCain, please quit with all the childish ads because you look like a real fool!!!!

this repubs are crazy if they think the american people would allow drilling....can someone remind mcain its 2008....i think he has definately lost his bearings....

Mike from Westchester   August 4th, 2008 5:04 pm ET

Rich coming from someone who hasn't set foot in the Senate in 4 months and who has missed the last 13 votes on energy issues going back 2 years. He left town and hid when the New GI bill came up for a vote, rather than standing up and voting no.

If you look at McCain's voting record, he misses a lot of votes. For example, this new found "environmentalist" missed 14 straight important environmental votes over the 2 1/2 year period from late 2005. He has similar record on a number of other issues. On defense issues he has 8 "no votes" out of 12 over the past year, while Obama voted on 7 of 12, even though he has a much more contentious primary fight. Obama has voted for Iraq funding three time over that period, McCain only once. Same with education.

McCain talks a good story, but it is him who has done precious little over the past several years in Washington – but did he remind you he was a prisoner of war.

Edgar   August 4th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Can somebody explain why the drilling can't be done in the designated areas? Republicans are sneaky. Congress has already approved areas where they can drill, why are they trying to get approval for more areas when they haven't used the ones that are already approved?

I'm fed up to here with the Bush administration, the lies to get us to go to Iraq, the unjust Justice Department. Somebody needs to put their foot down and tell this man that it's him against the US and the US must win.

GoMcCain08   August 4th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

They stopped the vote on drilling so Obama wouldn't be in the position of voting against something that 69% of the people want. The price of oil per barrel has dropped dramatically just because the bill was going to be voted on.

I would like to see it continue to drop, and the only way that is going to happen is if the airhead democrats come back and vote.

American people first, democratic party second. The party can't keep protecting Obama from his own inexperience.

Pelosi needs to be voted out of office.

Tom,Michigan   August 4th, 2008 4:59 pm ET

WHY DID THE GAS PRICES WENT UP SO HIGH?

1. Major factor is 8 YEARS of REPUBLICAN Rule made the dollar so weak against other currencies so it went up

2. George Bush took changed the position on oil speculation on the wall stree. Wallstreet was not allowed to speculate on oil unless they are planning to use oil. Bush reversed the position and allowed speculation on this.

These 2 are the major factors in increasing the demand. It is NOT demand from INDIA and CHINA. That is bull**. So drilling more is not the answer to this crisis, that is what McCain and Republicans are trying to make it to. I think Obama is trying to address it and Republican are trying to make him a fool for doing this

Please, CNN please publish this. This is fact. You can go back to the first years of Bush presidency and see that how they changed our strong dollar policy so that they could improve the ex[ports. It is the no vision policy of this administration that put us in this big mess.
you need somebody outside from the oil party to get us Out.

Thanks

The majority of Americans want the oil companies to drill for more oil. If the Democrats are so concerned this is a hoax, then they should get their tails back to Washington ASAP and have an up or down vote. Fact is Pelosi is afraid that her caucus wil vote yes on drilling. Instead of doing what is right for America, they are hiding and thinking about their own agenda.

And they will be voted back into office.

Kevin   August 4th, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Didn't the Republicans block a vote on tapping the strategic reserve, which would lower the gas prices immediately? Then they want to vote on something that will lower prices by 2 cents several years from now?

Can anyone see what's going on here? Big oil is working us.

Bayou Joe   August 4th, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Totally agree. Congress needs to go back to work and earn their pay.
Let's see Congress take on the real issues facing our country and then we will know where they stand on the record. These are the tough ones that the Democratic controlled congress does not want to take on: Energy, Immigration and China exports. You will not see these issues until after the election.
Vote all of them out and start over again.

I'm sorry, was there something 'worth' voting on since April?

And for all you who can't take the time to read up on things, the GOP isn't asking for a vote to allow oil compainies to drill offshore, they're asking for the federal ban to be lifted so each state can decide if they want it. States rights, federalism... something we've gotten too far away from.

I would be willing to vote for Sherry in Atlanta no matter what her party. Let's all join Divided We Fail and de-elect both houses and start over with term limits and no retirement.

On the oil/gas issue: Why is it no more has been done to promote natural gas autos ? The US has enough natural gas reserves to fuel our vehicles for quite a long time while more efficient means are developed. Gee, could it be politicians of both major parties are in the back pocket of those wishing to keep gas prices where they are ?

Leave the national reserves strictly alone for true emergencies like when Iran starts using their weapons to close the Persian Gulf.

Much less partisan ME and more cooperative US.

Divided We Fail has the right idea and you'll notice which end they use for the donkey.

Has anyone considered the possibility of conspiracy between the Bush administration republican congress and "Big Oil" to force the repeal of restrictions on off shore drilling and the opening of the ANWR to exploitation? The democrats should be applauded for their refusal to "knuckle under" to the pressure when this action will not immediately result in lower gas prices.

Politics as usual – we've known since the 70's that we have an oil problem and that there is not enough to go around. Both the Dems and Republicans have stalled on this issue for the last 40 years. Time to get off our oil kick and find alternate sources of energy. A little leadership is needed - Ike had his roads, JFK the space program. Who will lead on the need for alternative energy .. bet it won't be the oil companies.

What will Barry vote if the legislation comes to the floor?

"Present" like he did over 160 times as a State Senator. This man couldn't make a decison if his life depended on it. Last week he was adamantly against any off shore drilling this week as he drops in the polls he suddenly flip flops and wants a compromise with off shore drilling. Last week he stated it would take 10 years to get one drop of oil from our own supplies today he states it would be 7 years. Drop a few more points in the polls and it will become 3 years or 5 years.

No Hillary as VP NO VOTE!

Do you comprehend that Barry?

The woman of this nation have had enough. Our familes are suffering under this energy crisis and you suggesdt we go out and buy Tire Pressure Gauges and get the car tuned?

We can't afford Tire Pressure Gauges and engine tune ups the KIDS HAVE TO EAT!

OK Barry you made your big Tiore Pressure Gauge Energy Speech which was followed by comments from the oiul companiy executive who advised and I quote "If this Congress does not allow domestic oil production five dollar gasoline will seem like a bargain price in a few short years."

Personally I for one would like to use a Tire Presssure Gauge on you because you suddenly appear to be full of hot air and flip flopping all over the map. Suddenly this campaign is all about you and not us.

Happy 47th Birthday Obama!!!   August 4th, 2008 4:26 pm ET

Mc Cain when is the last time you voted on something???? .. seriously??? ... Gi Bill . . Absent ... If I go to name more I'll finish come Nov 4th LOL ... but when It's comes to Big Oil & adding money to your pocket you're the 1st to talk ....... such hypocrisy

John McCain is a bitter, angry, old man withi old ideas.

Such a clown.

I see where Romeny today called Obama Dishonet!

Now if that isn't the pot calling the kettle black.

Mitt Romney! What a clown.

James   August 4th, 2008 4:24 pm ET

I wouldn't follow McCain into a 7-11 let alone believe anything he has to say.

McCain is a disgrace to his family, his country and the world.

I hope he returns to the Senate for the vote.
I hope he stays there for the next 8 years.
Then I hope he retires.

To big wil

McCains wife is always there because she is filthy rich and doesn't have anthing else to do. With all of her botox, contacts, beleached hair and make up, she wants to be seen!

susannahjones   August 4th, 2008 4:24 pm ET

first off, I bet you won't post this....but I will go ahead anyway
Why are you reporting about the oil profits and not pointing out the offset....americans collect more in taxes from oil companies than they collect from the lower 25% of wages in this country.
That is a lot of money.
Also, big oil does not run off with all that money, their shareholders, a large proportion of whom are your viewers, get dividends
and finally, oil re-invests in new exploration and technology for the future alternative energy

NotFallingInLine.org   August 4th, 2008 4:24 pm ET

John McCain is a fake!

Matt   August 4th, 2008 4:23 pm ET

McCain is right.

The only party that cares about the average working American is the Republican Party.

The democrats go on vacation while the Republicans are still trying to do something to ease the load on the average joe.

I really do not know how someone could be dumb enough to vote for a democrat.

Fed up with the lies   August 4th, 2008 4:23 pm ET

Another political move by a desparate man. He knows Congress isn't going to bow to Rep. pressure, so he's safe calling for the special session. What a waste of a reporter's time.

California Gold   August 4th, 2008 4:22 pm ET

Pander Man McCain. The guy is all hat and no cattle. Did not vote yes for the new GI bill & the largest increase in veterans' health care, did not support raising the Fed. minimum wage increase, did not vote to support the Bush 10% cut in Medicare, did not support the first increase in auto efficiency standards in 32 years, or much else brick-and-mortar issues. So now he wants Congress back in session? The above actions were approved despite McCain.

Kevin Leo (Jonesboro, GA)   August 4th, 2008 4:21 pm ET

McCain is married to the oil companies. They have contributed generously to his campaign. He will look after their interests before considering the American people.

No, they should continue to do nothing. Well, except check the air pressure on their tires of course!

Tammy - KCMO   August 4th, 2008 4:21 pm ET

Please tell me the American public won't be stupid enough to fall for this republican stunt?

You (republicans) had the past 8 years to do something and sat on your butts just raking in the dough, helping out your oil buddies and Haliburton. The Democrats are not to blame for your misuse of office.

Considering you don't show up half the time to vote and are busy playing in Sturgis SD today, why do you care?

Delvis Marinez   August 4th, 2008 4:20 pm ET

Nevermind that when the Republicans ran Congress they took more breaks than a little bit. I do think they should come back, but McCain calling on them is more of the same ol' B.S.

It's time to take these ultra liberals out of office.

Moderate Dems for Hillary. No empty suits need apply.

Politics as usual.

Drill drill drill...... The new McCain/Bush song.

Stop giving the billion $ tax breaks to the oil giants like Exxon Mobil so that we can reduce the oil price somewaht.

Just drilling will not make it. In fact it will bring more profits to Exxon Mobil if not well planned.

We need an overall strategy and not a political game.

Yupik1   August 4th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

McSwayin' in the wind seems to be about 3 months behind in his thinking. Hasn't voted since APRIL! Veterans for McCain should note he didn't vote on the benefits for veterans, and had the gumption to complain about Obama not visiting the troops in Germany.

Kevin in PA   August 4th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

Give me a break, McCain. If this guy is going to go back to Washington to vote on any proposals that come forth, he's going to need directions to get there – it's been a while.

Sharon   August 4th, 2008 4:15 pm ET

I think McCain needs to use one of his new (probably made in China) gas gauges to check the pressure between his ears. This guy is so full of hot air! The American people are sick of these lame stunts ...the GOP only seems to have real concern for the "American People" when their political hides are at stake. We've had almost 8 years of their over-inflated rhetoric and empty promises. Time for a CHANGE!

Senator McCaine, why should we listen to someone like you who doesn't even believe that pumping up your tires to the maximum can improve your fuel economy?

When it comes to energy, you, sir, are a dolt!

Unlike Senator Obama, who knows that tuning up your car and slowing down will get you better gas mileage, which in turn will reduce demand for gas, which will result in lower prices.

It's called the Law of Supply and Demand, McCaine. Ever hear of it?

Mike - Texas   August 4th, 2008 4:09 pm ET

18 Republicans and 0 democrats stayed behind to work on an energy policy after Pelosi and fellow democrats hurried through the adjournment procedings so that they could go on vacation.

Drill here, Drill now. And create American jobs and security !!

Brennan - Seattle, WA   August 4th, 2008 4:09 pm ET

Jus because Republicans didn't get their way they shouldn't be able to bully their way into it. This is exactly the problem with the republican party. Our current President saw things the same way "Oh the constitution doesn't allow me to do that? Well do it anyway."

Happy B-Day BO!!!
Next one will be at the White House!

GET OUT AND VOTE FOLKS NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE!!!

This quote says it best:

"On the one hand we have Obama offering a $1000 citizen energy rebate, a windfall profits tax on rich oil companies, 5 million green jobs, independence from Middle East oil dependency in 10 years, and looking out for our injured troops. On the other hand, we have McCain offering tire gauges, peeks at Britney and Paris, a cameo by John's old buddy, Moses and fighting hard for his oil buddies. This is going to be a very difficult decision"

Richard   August 4th, 2008 4:05 pm ET

I guess "For the People" only means when it suits your adgenda!

Enlightened Voter   August 4th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

What a poor excuse for leadership this Congress has turned out to be. The people got what they voted for – an approval rating LESS then GWB. You can't even allow a VOTE? It will probably go down party lines anyway, except for those up for re-election this cycle. Theu will be "Not-present" for that one! The people are speaking, why does Nancy refuse to listen?? Because she wants your misery ot be as depp as possible to try and get yoi to vote for Obama. She should resign immediately!

Rocky   August 4th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

Of course they should return and hammer out some kind of energy plan, but they won't. It's obvious the Dem's think voters are going to blame the whole problem on Bush so they don't have to face the prospect of standing up to the far left of the party on this issue.

justin in CO   August 4th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

Axel   August 4th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

So where has McCain been for the past 27 years ? Isn't the timing of this all quite interesting considering we are in an election cycle. Don't be niave.

That's right McSame. Go out of your retirement home, put on your sun cream and go back to vote since you missed votes in the Senate since April ...

A Nightingale Sings in Berkely Square   August 4th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

Of course they should. This Pelosi led House of clowns has been a total failure for 2 years. The bipartisianship and dignity she promised have resulted in stifiling free speech and the use of archaic House rules to stymie any ideas outside of her and the Senate's Reid. A 5-week vacation, ha, they should be ashamed. With the salary, retirement, and insurance benefits they receive they have a lot of nerve taking a week off from work (if that's what you call it).

Tammy - KCMO   August 4th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

My understanding is that McCain is too busy in Sturgis, SD today attending the motorcycle rally to be bothered with dealing with any real issues that affect the average citizen.

Abby   August 4th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE 'McCain has missed Senate votes since April, including several involving major energy measures – one of which, a summer gas tax holiday, was a standard element of his spring stump speech."

Please don’t let the gimmick man fool you. Please. This is too important.

CW4Barack   August 4th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

McCain wasn't even avaialble to vote on his own stupid gas tax holiday bill! John McCain, more of the same stupid gimmicks for America. Sen. Obama solutions for America!

Mike in MN   August 4th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

Since the do nothing Democrates are, well doing nothing, the Republicans are at least giving up their time off to make a point.
The Republicans are the only ones serious about solving the problem.

Over 70% of Americans want to incude offshore drilling in the mix to solve energy problems. Pelosi says she is trying to save the planet by stopping drilling and then says the oil companies should drill more on land already leased, what? Make up you mind Pelosi, save the planet or drill more.

Obama says Americans need imediate help on the cost of gas. McCain suggests suspending the Federal gas tax for a while. Obama is opposed, says it would really increase the cost of gas by making it more affordable and consumers would by more and increase demand and thus increase the price. Brilliant.

Obama want to enact a windfall tax on oil compainies and use it to give $1000 rebates to low income people who are struggling with the cost of gas. Good for the low income, bad for middle income. This move will only increase the cost of gas as oil compainies charge more to recoupe what they lost in the windfall tax and middle income tax payers do not get the rebate. So they just get to pay even more for a gallon of gas. Brilliant.

Obama has just said Ameicans should reduce their electricty consumption by 15% in the next 5 years. Yet his energy plan has us all converting to electric cars to use electricity instead of oil for our transportation. That would result in an enormous increase in elecrtic consumption. Does he even think about what he says?

We must elect McCain in 08 and get rid of Pelosie an Reid and restore Congress to a Republican majority.

Abby   August 4th, 2008 3:55 pm ET

Not that you would show up! Just like you didn’t show up to vote on the ‘Webb’ bill to support our veterans and didn’t show up to support our seniors on the Medicaid vote. We are paying attention, Senator. You can fool some people sometimes…

OBAMA 08

Wilson, Seattle   August 4th, 2008 3:54 pm ET

Yeah, whatever happened to the gas tax holiday? Oh yeah, it was replaced by off-shore drilling; an equally stupid political gimmick. If you believe openning a few oil rigs in suboptimal drilling conditions off the US coast will somehow increase the world supply of oil enough to drop prices you have been duped. Period. The only way to drop prices is to decrease consumption or come up with competitive alternatives.

mary, new jersey   August 4th, 2008 3:54 pm ET
