McCain: Congress should reconvene, vote on energy bill

CNN

"Drill here, drill now," McCain said Monday.

(CNN) - Presumptive Republican nominee John McCain called Monday for immediate congressional action on the nation’s energy crisis, joining a call by his Republican colleagues for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to call legislators back from their August recess for a special session.

The Arizona senator said he would return to vote on any proposal. McCain has missed Senate votes since April, including several involving major energy measures – one of which, a summer gas tax holiday, was a standard element of his spring stump speech.

Have you ever noticed that McCain never gets hoarse. That's because he's working half as much as Barack and Hillary. He thinks the presidency should be give to him on a silver platter. He dumped his first wife for Cindy Lou, who finances his elections, and he never had to work hard.

Good for him, bad for us.

i want a president who's going to hit the ground running, not just hit the ground.

What a joke – he doesn't even vote on regular issues when they're in session, now he wants in on this boondoggle. McCain has turned into a real joke.

Apparently Big Mac, is very small when it comes to new ideas. He doesn't have any. His idea of solving our economic problems is for us to stop whining about them. Then he can be the president in peace.

That's good for John and Cindy Lou, but bad for us.

WHY DID THE GAS PRICES WENT UP SO HIGH?

    1. Major factor is 8 YEARS of REPUBLICAN Rule made the dollar so weak against other currencies so it went up

    2. George Bush took changed the position on oil speculation on the wall stree. Wallstreet was not allowed to speculate on oil unless they are planning to use oil. Bush reversed the position and allowed speculation on this.

These 2 are the major factors in increasing the demand. It is NOT demand from INDIA and CHINA. That is bull**. So drilling more is not the answer to this crisis, that is what McCain and Republicans are trying to make it to. I think Obama is trying to address it and Republican are trying to make him a fool for doing this

Please, CNN please publish this. This is fact. You can go back to the first years of Bush presidency and see that how they changed our strong dollar policy so that they could improve the ex[ports. It is the no vision policy of this administration that put us in this big mess.
you need somebody outside from the oil party to get us Out.

    Thanks

They stopped the vote on drilling so Obama wouldn't be in the position of voting against something that 69% of the people want. The price of oil per barrel has dropped dramatically just because the bill was going to be voted on.

I would like to see it continue to drop, and the only way that is going to happen is if the airhead democrats come back and vote.

American people first, democratic party second. The party can't keep protecting Obama from his own inexperience.

Pelosi needs to be voted out of office.

Can somebody explain why the drilling can't be done in the designated areas? Republicans are sneaky. Congress has already approved areas where they can drill, why are they trying to get approval for more areas when they haven't used the ones that are already approved?

I'm fed up to here with the Bush administration, the lies to get us to go to Iraq, the unjust Justice Department. Somebody needs to put their foot down and tell this man that it's him against the US and the US must win.

Rich coming from someone who hasn't set foot in the Senate in 4 months and who has missed the last 13 votes on energy issues going back 2 years. He left town and hid when the New GI bill came up for a vote, rather than standing up and voting no.

If you look at McCain's voting record, he misses a lot of votes. For example, this new found "environmentalist" missed 14 straight important environmental votes over the 2 1/2 year period from late 2005. He has similar record on a number of other issues. On defense issues he has 8 "no votes" out of 12 over the past year, while Obama voted on 7 of 12, even though he has a much more contentious primary fight. Obama has voted for Iraq funding three time over that period, McCain only once. Same with education.

McCain talks a good story, but it is him who has done precious little over the past several years in Washington – but did he remind you he was a prisoner of war.

It’s just juvenile, McCain mocking Obama's statement regarding practicing good maintenance on our cars. I have heard from tons of experts that practicing good maintenance on you car does help increase gas mileage. Obama was just stating how the American people can also help themselves during this energy crisis and instead of just waiting for government to fix it.

Oh...but McCain must of forgot his own "healthcare plan" statement about preventing skin cancer....use sunscreen. Because everyone knows that McCain has not healthcare plan...except every man, woman and child for themselves.

So McCain, please quit with all the childish ads because you look like a real fool!!!!

I think every American who voted for GW the second time should vote for Barack. Why? They are the reason we went to Iraq, more soldiers died, we have an unjust Justice Department, etc. They owe the American people a climate of change, not the same old thing, such as a McCain presidency.

Uh, if you couldn't make time for the initially scheduled event, why should concessions be made for you after the fact? I have some very informative news for you, Mr. McCain; the world does NOT revolve around you!

The White House has already rejected the idea of the House reconveining for a vote/debate on energy policy. White House will not support the republicans in making such a move. McCain should back off of this and stop the negative attacks. He's missed more votes than any Senator anyway.

WHY isn't anyone asking McCain HOW drilling now will help? Pundit after pundit on your station has said it won't and he just keeps getting to say it. By not calling him on it every time he says it, you are in effect affecting future policy. People are uninformed and you are not informing them.!

OIL OIL OIL OIL. That's all he stands for. He's been bought by the oil companies just like Bush and Cheney. America wake up!!! McCain will not seek alternative energy solutions. He's saying anything to get elected. The world is revolving around oil. The rich oil men are ruling this world. Well this year we have a chance to put in a fresh face who isn't in bed with the oil companies. We're never going to get off of oil w/ a bought and paid for politician. Even if you don't like him Obama can help get us out of this crisis, and its huge! We have to get off OIL, wake up people Vote Obama, PLEASE! The futur of our great nation depends on it and so does THE PLANET!!!
