Obama, Bayh send letter to Pentagon on traumatic brain injuries

Obama met with Gen. Petraeus while visiting Iraq last month.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - As speculation over the number two slot rises, presidential candidate Barack Obama and potential v.p. contender Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana joined forces Monday, signing a letter with eight other senators that urges Defense Secretary Robert Gates to increase medical coverage and care for Iraq war veterans left with serious brain injuries.

Watch: Obama pledges help for veterans

The senators point to a recent study from the RAND Corporation that estimates 320,000 troops from the two Iraq wars experienced a traumatic brain injury, or TBI.

Earlier: Obama camp launches military families working group

"We are concerned that at a time when TBI is recognized as the signature wound of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan," the senators write, "one of the most widely accepted and critical rehabilitative treatments for this injury… cognitive rehabilitation therapy, is excluded by the military's … health insurance program."
The other senators signing on to the letter include political notables Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-New York, Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass, Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass and Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-CT. Obama and Bayh's name are clearly perched at the top.

Just another example of the McCain campaign seizing on just about anything to mock. They really need to get a grip and campaign about the issues instead of trying to divert everything to a personality race.

That's not a winning platform...if people vote on image McCain is really dead in the water.

It is obvious that this man is not ready to be President-
His energy plan is fill your tires-
WE already take care of Brain Injuries-

    Let's Face it Dems-
McCain is not running a great Campaign-
Right or wrony –you hate George Bush-
The Economy is not in Good Shape–
It's a Democrat Cycle for President-
Race is a statisical Dead Heat-
The people that will vote will recognize his inexperience-
He ran 4 Years too Early-
CLINTON should have run for President with OBAMA as Vice President which would have probably Guarantee 16 Years of Dem rule–
Thank Goodness they were not smart enough to figure that out-
Now it will probably be McCain for 4 then Hilliary for 8-
Thay's my quess-Obama will be playing footsie with Ludacrius !!

I am deeply disturbed in both candidates now, they are moving discussiion of tapping into ANWR as if you can count on it as being reality now. This is fundamentally dangerous to the US in many ways. 1. It perpatually adds to global warming and does not solve the problems we face. 2. The last pristine place in the nation will be destroyed without batting an eye. 3. When we run out of our oil, think of even higher gas prices, if other oil-rich nations decide to let us live. 4. Relying on the oil companies for scratching our backs later is very scary, because they will follow where the money takes them, i.e. China nad India. 5. Finally, there is NO GUARANTEE that the oil tapped from ANWR will ever hit the US market. It could be sold to the Chinese or India. ASK QUESTIONS PEOPLE!!!
    WAKE UP!!
    WAKE UP!!
    WAKE UP!!

Just more photo op garbage from Obama.

Veterans already receive high-quality care for traumatic brain injury and other conditions. You should visit a military hospital some time - I regularly visit one in San Diego, where my friend is treated.

You have no idea how fabulously veterans and active-duty personnel are treated and cared for with the latest technology and patient care services. The rest of U.S. health care should be this outstanding!

Actually there are veteran groups that grade the senators amd Obama recieved an 80 and McCain a 20. These are non-partisan groups and if you don't beleive me then go check it out for yourself. It's a big dfference betweem being a vet and actually supporting vets. McCain gets away with not supporting the vets because he was a POV which is unfair.

The republicans say they support the war. The time has come to institute a draft for military service. Let everyone do some of the heavy lifting. Our gutless legislators are home for five weeks doing nothing. When are people going to demand results from these sleazebags? Draft everyone, see if the republicans still want the status Quo. In all of our countries history we haven't had such dishonest, corrupt, big business adoration. The republicans are shameful, and the dem's not much better.

Why didn't he visit the troops in hospital during his recent European trip??? Clearly if Sen Obama felt this was a worthwhile endeavor he would have visited them. This is just a publicity stunt that should be seen for what it is. Our vets are deserving of better and any and all support and should not be used as a vehicle for political gain!

If McCain thinks spending 6 years in a cell makes him ready to serve as president. Then I have a whole bunch of potential candidates for the GOP in Starke Prison here in FL.

If these jokes and mocking Obama is how he treats people he claims to respect. Then what will he do with foreign leaders he doesn't like? He'll go to war with them that's what. There will be no diplomacy with temper tantrum McCain. It will more shoot first make up lies later GW foreign policy.

And last, Can anyone seriously allow a man who has no clue where Iraq is to have his finger on the nuclear trigger?.

At least Mr. Obama is DOING something other than using the troops as pawns and props while voting against every senate bill that would benefit them like someone else by the name of Grampy McSame as Bush who just talks about "honoring" them with his hollow psuedo-patriotism.

Justin in CA and NC Man: Try to keep up. Thie McCain myth about Obama's decision about visiting the troops has been debunked by the reporters and people who were actually there!!

Just wondering: Where has McCain been for the past 26 years. Please tell me all the specific legislation he keeps touting about himself??

Jon: Try to hold more than one proposal in your mind at the same time. Obama's energy proposal contain both short term relief as well as long term proposals.

When is Senator McCain going to take his shift with his fellow Republicans in Washington, DC??

Obama and his race-baiting allies- MSNBC, CNN, Roland, Jamal, D Brazille, Michelle and all his hateful cult followers- have turned HILL and BILL into heroes and legends for suffering so bravely while being unfairly attacked and demeaned and slandered...BY THEIR OWN PARTY.

    Way to go Obamadiots.

Compare McCain and Obama's voting records for Veterans. What is McCain's real record in Vietnam- he knows how to win wars. He was never a military commander.

About the Present vote that is an Ilnois thing. Understand the difference.

Education. Vouchers do not work. You are just moving the money from one pot to another. Fix the schools- period. Start paying teachers and giving them other benefits.
