The fact is... if Bill Clinton and the democrats had signed the energy policy back in 1994, 1995, 1996 and so on....America would have lower gas prices and not as dependent on their enemy's for oil. Democrats are to be blamed 100% for USA importing 70% of our oil. Up from 35% before Clinton.

Canadan's are more Liberal than amaerican liberals, yet the liberals in Canada arn't as ignorent as the american liberals. They have allowed all forms of drilling in Canada.

I think the whining coming from the left today. For the first time in a long house republicans are showing some stones and standing up for the American people that sent them there. Its about time that someone is Washington tried to do something.

The left says they care about the poor but the poor take the biggest hit with fuel prices being what they are. Does the left about the poor or just getting elected ( or selling a book)?

I hope the house republicans keep this "stunt" going for the entire 5 weeks. The Prada Princess needs come off her own little "rainbow tour". and get back to the people business.

I have been laid off. I am so glad Obama will soon be President. I can just wait for him to take care of me now. He really cares about me. He will tax the companies that might hire me. He thinks "Big Oil" is bad. Is it because they employ may people across the country?

Getting Congress to actually do something could help the economy and get some people back to work.

By the way – Do any of you know that the so called "Big Oil" companies happen to be working in other areas of the energy sector?

Do some research. You might take a different position if you thought all the way through on issues.

This is just a push for Bush, McCain and the republicans to get a bonus from Big Oil. Knowing Offshore Drilling is a very long-term solution and it wont have an affect on consumers for a least decade from now, and knowing that Big Oil (and them) will be the ONLY immediate beneficiaries from offshore drilling, and knowing it is not the answer to the energy crisis. But they know if they say it long enough and push hard enough for it, the ignorant idiots of this country will believe it, just like they did with the Iraq war. And why now, have they been sleeping for the past 8 years. Like they said, this a is 'psychological relief' to the ecomonic and energy crisis. LISTEN people.

Seems as though not much has changed, still blathering empty rhetoric, since the Republicans were the ones that held up the energy bill before recess. They are the one's that should be there talking to an empty chamber contending the bill will go no further until they can add 28 amendments, instead of taking the Democrats offer to allow offshore drilling and fewer amendments. That is called compromise and until Republicans realize they are no longer the majority party in Congress, let them stay there and stamp their childish feet..

Of course, the compromise would have made the Grand Oil Party put the concerns of the American people first and above big business and when was the last time McCrypt and Crew allowed that to happen?.

"McCain said in April, “I’m sorry to tell you that the price of oil — as far as I can tell — is not gonna go down anytime soon until we eliminate our dependency on it. We can do that as a nation — we can turn out the lights five minutes earlier, we don’t have to drive the extra block.”

What’s wrong with this? Nothing in particular. In fact, it’s probably about as sensible as what Obama said about inflating our tires and getting regular tune-ups.

The difference is, Dems didn’t spend a week getting “giddy” about using lightbulbs as a political prop and insisting that McCain’s entire energy policy is composed of turning off the lights.
