(CNN)—Barack Obama's campaign responded to John McCain's first positive ad of the past several days– an ad that emphasized his independent reputation –with a new spot Tuesday that looked to tie the Arizona senator to President Bush.
Obama’s 30 second spot called “Original,” uses part of McCain’s ad “broken” also released Tuesday, where the announcer calls McCain “the original maverick,” and then paints the word “really?” across the screen.
The ad flashes to a video clip of McCain in May of 2003 saying he and President Bush are lockstep on most issues.
“The president and I agree on most issues. There was a recent study that showed that I voted with the president over ninety percent of the time…” McCain says in Obama’s ad.
The ad continues on by asking the viewer if McCain is in fact the “original maverick? Or just more of the same?”
Full script after the jump
“Original”
:30 for TV
MCCAIN AD:
He’s the original maverick.
SILENT SUPER:
Really?
MCCAIN:
The president and I agree on most issues. There was a recent study that showed that I voted with the president over ninety percent of the time…
VO:
John McCain supports Bush’s tax cuts for millionaires, but nothing for a hundred million households.
He’s for billions in new oil company giveaways, while gas prices soar.
And for tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas.
The original maverick?
Or just more of the same?
I’m Barack Obama and I approve this message.

McCain...a maverick in his own mind. Trouble is the dementia that has set in causes him to forget he is already out of his mind. Not entirely unlike the Pres. No wonder they are in lockstep.
Remember when Sen. McCain Said This;
"McCain said in April, “I’m sorry to tell you that the price of oil — as far as I can tell — is not gonna go down anytime soon until we eliminate our dependency on it. We can do that as a nation — we can turn out the lights five minutes earlier, we don’t have to drive the extra block.”
What’s wrong with this? Nothing in particular. In fact, it’s probably about as sensible as what Obama said about inflating our tires and getting regular tune-ups.
The difference is, Dems didn’t spend a week getting “giddy” about using lightbulbs as a political prop and insisting that McCain’s entire energy policy is composed of turning off the lights.
Obama 08
Say NO To Sen. MoeClown, and his other Stooges.
Tell Them To Put Those Tire Gages You Know Where, Since They Don't Want To Use Them!
Now thats the true McSame Love IT. Obama08
Wasn't the original Maverick James Gardner?
Keep hitting them Senator Obama!
The Repbulicans are trying to hide Bush at the convention and Cheney might not even show but the truth about their ties and shared views need to be pushed over and over.
McCain in 2003: The Iraq war is going to be easy.
McCain in 2007: Those who thought the war was going to be a cake walk were naive.......!
McCain’s PHONY EXPRESS
well it seems like mccain is flip-flopping on another thing.
"for tax breaks for companies that shift jobs overseas."
Presumably Obama favors tax hikes for companies that ship jobs overseas? Please explain how that will encourage these companies to hire more U.S. employees. I dare you.
NOW THAT IS A GREAT AD!!! Nice job!! Keep going Obama!!
I agree with Chris. McCain said at the nuclear power plant today that people notice what you vote for and not just what you say. McCain should check his own voting record in the future because it's not just energy bills. Same goes for the GI bills and equal pay for women and actually lying about having voted for bills like the MLK holiday not to mention other bills he claims to have voted for that he missed altogether.
McCain represnts Bush and nothing else. McCain is not different from Bush. He also wants the big companies to make huge profits at the expense of ordinary working Americans.
Except that John McCain voted against oit giveaways while Obama voted for them. McCain should sue for libel. i'd like to see Obama defend himself in court. And how come no one cares when Obama goes negative but when McCain goes negative the press are all over him? Yet another common sense comment, left unposted because of liberal medai bias.
Excellent, excellent rebuttal. Keep jabbing. Don't let McCain loose.
Go obama.
You know enough is enough and too much stinks. I think Obama has finally had his fill of the childish games and flat out lies McCain is feeding us. That's how you do it!
Lets wait for the debates. Obama will crush the old idiot.
Obama..........08
In the Mccain ads and in his stump speech he states he supports GI issues, women, health care, civil rights, energy, taxes and on and on.Yet the Mccain voting record shows these thing to be untrue.Obama needs to call him out every day on a different issue.
GAME, SET, MATCH!
I VOTED WITH BUSH OVER 90% OF THE TIME.........SO HE IS A BUSH CLONE. MCSAME YOUR JEDI MIND TRICKS WILL NEVER WORK. THE FORCE IS NO LONGER WITH YOU.
This issue is whether or not the media covers these hits by Obama like they cover the hits from McCain – I doubt it since they haven't called out McCain once.
This is CERTAINLY not the 2004 or 2000 Election
This is what we call "Rapid Response" by Obama Special Forces. These guys are BRILLIANT and SMART
Obama / Hagel 08
Excellent Ad, keep hitting em and hit em hard!!
John McCain is "The Real Maverick" for Big Oil!!!
Obama has to do this for the next 96 days! This will be a good ad to run and re run, because many voters won't tune in or get it until october. This ad(and/or various versions)needs to be run every week from here on out to ensure the message sticks.
What does a 95% record of voting WITH Dubya say to you ?
Other than the obvious fact that someone is an idiot – and a liar.
The TRUTH shall set you free and OBAMA'S truth will set us all free again. People open your eyes and ears don't let the republicans lies and fear stop you from doing the right thing by voiting DEMOCRAT.
