New Obama ad takes aim at McCain's positive spot

,

(CNN)—Barack Obama's campaign responded to John McCain's first positive ad of the past several days– an ad that emphasized his independent reputation –with a new spot Tuesday that looked to tie the Arizona senator to President Bush.

Obama’s 30 second spot called “Original,” uses part of McCain’s ad “broken” also released Tuesday, where the announcer calls McCain “the original maverick,” and then paints the word “really?” across the screen.

The ad flashes to a video clip of McCain in May of 2003 saying he and President Bush are lockstep on most issues.

“The president and I agree on most issues. There was a recent study that showed that I voted with the president over ninety percent of the time…” McCain says in Obama’s ad.

The ad continues on by asking the viewer if McCain is in fact the “original maverick? Or just more of the same?”

Full script after the jump

“Original”

:30 for TV

MCCAIN AD:
He’s the original maverick.

SILENT SUPER:
Really?

MCCAIN:

The president and I agree on most issues. There was a recent study that showed that I voted with the president over ninety percent of the time…

VO:

John McCain supports Bush’s tax cuts for millionaires, but nothing for a hundred million households.

He’s for billions in new oil company giveaways, while gas prices soar.

And for tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas.

The original maverick?

Or just more of the same?

I’m Barack Obama and I approve this message.

Obama needs to play that clip of McCain on TV over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over until the tape wears out

Now do we have to rush off to factcheck.org again and see how much of this ad is misleading ? The other ad he put out implies oil companies gave to McCain when that has been illegal since 1918. The amount he received was only 1.3 million and not over 2 million while Obama himself collected close to 400,000. Then the tax breaks to big oil companies are not speciicialy for them but for ALL companies and businesses of which they happen to be a part of. Let's not go calling other people's ads ignorant when your own are deliberately misleading to put it mildl, and Obama himself voted FOR the Cheney energy plan in the Senate. .

I thought Obama wasn't going to go negative and be a typical politician. I guess he's just like the rest of the politicians, just more of a hypocrite.

  9. Former g.o.p.

McCain gets big bucks from Hess Oil, just after he switches his position on offshore oil drilling.
After 8 years of the bush/cheney oilmen we end up with $ 4.00 per gallon oil and the g.o.p. screaming for more drilling, more tax cuts for the oil cartel and offering nothing to get us off our addiction.

Oil is the crack cocaine that feeds the republican habit.

This ignorant Republic will make sure that you are not elected in November. Me and redneck brothers that cling to our guns and religion will vote for McCain., since you and the DNC took out our
candidate and stole the nomination. The Democratic party has been hijacked and we will not sit idly by while you and your Socialists destroy the Party of our fathers.

Since when is obama an energy czar? You would think with his ideas that obama is a master mechanic now. You konw the one that has all the tools? I guess his energy policy explains why I saw all the kids at the nearby college store all waiting in line at the air pump. For people who supposedly have high IQ's and are the educated ones they sure do follow the one to a tee don't they. I wonder if the air pump had as much hot air in it as obama does? I wonder what brain trust idea obama will come out with. Hopefully it isn't following obama down the road of marxist socialism.

A week ago you guys were saying that McCain's negative ad's were shameful and evil, yet now when Obama does the same it's okay

    What is this???

Sounds kinda like hypocrisy to me, but I guess it's okay since Obama is only trying to inject HUMOR into the race.

The only possible way this election can be close is the result of a' journalists' in the news media not doing their job and the overwhelming stupidity of the average american voter.

It is about time the Obama camp it McCain where it hurts. Time to expose their lies, twisted ego and arrogant misdeeds.

Just too funny how so many fall for the NeoCon war baiting and fear mongering AND if you ask them, they'll swear it's the truth; just like what they read in the tabloids. Hmmm...I wonder, can the NeoCons read or are they simply dumb?

It's a pleasure to see Obama giving McCain a taste of the bullsh!t he's been dosing out against Obama since he was successful overseas. The Rethugnicans really have absolutely NOTHING they can say or use to help the American people and that is why they are resorting to the crap and stupid games they have been playing recently. Pwn them Obama like the Democrat God we know you are!

If thats all they have is to tie McCain to Bush they are desperate. McCain is winning the energy debate because he is right about "all of the above" and Obama spouts the party line of renewables only. There is no way the Dem plan will reduce gas prices now either, at least McCain admits it and he does have a real comprehensive energy plan that includes our own resources of Oil, Natural gas, Nuclear power and supporting the creation of renewable energy in the future while not hurting the economy in the short term.
