Obama: Republicans take pride in being ignorant

CNN

Watch Obama speak out against McCain and the Republican party.

BEREA, Ohio (CNN) – For almost a week, John McCain and his campaign have been mocking Barack Obama’s comments to a voter last week in Missouri when he told her to one way to conserve energy is “making sure your tires are properly inflated.”

On Monday a top McCain advisor passed around tire gauges labeled “Obama’s Energy Plan” to reporters on the Arizona senator’s campaign plane - and the Republican National Committee says more are waiting for the Obama traveling press corps at Tuesday night’s hotel.

Obama shot back at a town hall in Ohio Tuesday afternoon, accusing them of lying about his energy plan and ignoring what experts say would reduce gas consumption between 3 and 4 percent.

“It's like these guys take pride in being ignorant,” Obama told a packed gym. “They think it’s funny that they're making fun of something that is actually true. They need to do their homework.”

“Instead of running ads about Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, they should go talk to some energy experts and actually make a difference,” Obama added.

Both the RNC and McCain’s campaign responded by urging Obama to call for Congress to return from summer recess for a special session to pass an energy package.

“Rather than demanding Americans inflate their tires, Obama should be demanding Congress return to DC to vote on a real energy plan. Obama is wrong: Inflated tires are no substitute for oil drilling and a comprehensive energy plan,” said RNC spokesman Alex Conant.

The race took a sharp turn for the negative last week, as McCain released the ‘Celeb’ ad aimed at Obama, who said the presumptive Republican nominee would try to make him look scary by saying the Illinois senator doesn’t “look like all the presidents on the dollar bills.”

“Our politics has gotten so nasty,” said Obama in Berea. “But not just nasty, also cynical and manipulative, right? Where we say things that we don’t mean.”

“I’m happy to have a battle of words because I’ve got facts on my side. I’ve got truth on my side. I fear no man when I’ve got truth on my side,” he added.

We all know that if congress came back the vote for more leases to big oil would be "NO". With 50 million acres of leases in their pocket now that they're not drilling on why would we want to give them more to do the same. I have an idea >>>GIVE UP ALL LEASES THAT YOU HAVE NOT THAT YOUR NOT DRILLING ON AND WE'LL GIVE YOU NEW LEASES FOR THE AREA YOU WANT TO DRILL ON".

AMERICA WAKE THE HELL UP THIS IS A SHELL GAME THE THE REPUBLICAN RIGHT WANT TO TO BELEIVE. 30 YEARS OF FAILD
ENERGY PLANS AND THIS ONE VOTE IS GOING TO FIX THE PROBLEM.

    OMG what a moron………….

Welcome to the Third World America. This is the promise of the media created false Messiah .

This imposter is clueless, can't hold a position more than 24 hours, is completely unqualified to lead even a McDonald franchise and hangs out with scum like Wright, Farrakahn, Ayers, Ludacris and Rezko.
He has stated he wished he could rid himself of his "white blood" (read his writings if you dare) and will be eaten alive by the enemies of America. His child-like views on foriegn policy and the economy ensure our descent into also-ran status.

Great job DNC of "selecting" your candidate over the objection of Michigan, Florida and the will of 18 million Billary voters. Another brilliant strategic plan by Howard (Yeehaww) Dean and the DNC.

It was great to be on top for so long. Liberals, get ready for a wake up call if this Manchurian candidate gets in…..

Vote McCain or join the insane………….

    Well said, Barack!

It's about time someone called out the Republicans for wallowing in their ignorance. Why exactly would you mock something that is common knowledge that actually does improve gas mileage.

The state of the McCain campaign is truly sad.

    Wow, talk about arrogant!!!

Then he goes on to say, "...[w]here we say things we don't mean." Maybe B. Hussein Obama should just concentrate on saying what he means the first time around, instead of flip-flopping and saying "that's not what I meant."

Common sense advice is no substitute for sound policies and plans for America. Let's hear something good, Obama

It's true. Republicans take pride in being ignorant. Look at our current president.

They still like to wave the confederate flag after all and think Reagan and Nixon were good presidents.

    Time for change.

That's right Obama, you tell em!!! He hit the nail on the head, McCain, Bush, Romney and the rest of the republicans actually take 'pride in being ignorant' because they know their audience is just as ignorant. They know if they repeat something over and over (regardless if its true or not) that their audience would actually believe it. Just like the push for Offshore Drilling, knowing it wont have an affect for a least decade from now, knowing that Big Oil (and them) will be the ONLY immediate beneficiaries from offshore drilling, and knowing it is not the answer to the energy crisis. But they know if they say it long enough, the ignorant idiots of this country will believe it, just like they did with the Iraq war. Obama is the only one telling it like it really is, he's the one with the real solutions.

For those MCcain voters … your candidate is actually making fun of obama's suggestion to keep your tires properly inflated on the vehicles you drive to save gas. THATS COMMON SENSE AND MCCAIN IS MAKING FUN OF A COMMON SENSE SOLUTION TO A COMMON PROBLEM. WE DONT NEED ANYMORE IDIOTS IN THE WHITE HOUSE !!!! MCCAIN VOTERS !!!!

If we REALLY wanted to drill for oil, today...we could do so. There are around 70 million acres of land ready to be drilled on, leases in the hands of Big Oil Companies. If that is the answer, then why aren't we doing it.

This so called "Energy Bill' is nothing more then a ploy for McCain's Mommy and Daddy (Mr.&Mrs. Oil Company) to gain rights to all of our land, so they can further terrorize us at the pumps well into the future.

Drilling is NOT the answer, but even if it is, then start drilling on what you have and keep the rest of the land out of their hands until they prove they will do something with it. If they can not, then it needs to go to companies, upstarts, funded govt projects to do it instead.

I agree with Obama. However, unfortunately, a lot of Americans ARE ignorant, and are just sheep dressed as human beings who will believe what these ads tell them to believe.

The problem is people don't want to be accountable for themselves. They want the government to do everything for them. People could go out and buy hybrid cars, drive 55 MPH instead of 85, and, as Obama says, maintain good tire pressure, and they would save a ton of $$$ on gas. But of course people won't do that.

"I'm happy to have a battle of words" – Then why doesn't he want to debate McCain? Does anything come out of this guy's mouth that you can believe? He has no experience, no character and no humility....

You go Obama! Push back on these Republicans that want to put more money into the wealthy oil companies pockets. Drilling is the way to do that and it won't help our energy problem one bit. Oh, we might have more domestic oil in 10 years, but the demand will have grown as well. Republicans talk in generalities and Obama has the facts.

I have always had the impression that Republicans are ignorant, McSames campaign and his own personal comments point in that direction

The McSame and his campaign staff should be quite circumspect in their comments and published adverts and such less they give refutable proof of the ignorance and stupidity

And you, Barack Obama, try to cover up the fact that you are arrogant, which is inexplicable considering how inexperienced you are...

Darragh Murphy, the treasurer of PUMA PAC, is also arrogant, collecting money from the members of PUMA PAC and using it for no one really knows what.
