New McCain ad uses celebrity theme but omits Britney, Paris

The new McCain ad suggests Sen. Obama's policies would lead to higher taxes.

(CNN) – Even after becoming the target of a spoof by celebutante Paris Hilton, the McCain campaign is keeping up the celebrity theme in its new advertisement targeting Sen. Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee.

Like the McCain camp’s earlier “Celeb” ad, the new ad “Family,” refers to Obama as “the biggest celebrity in the world.” But the new 30-second spot does not use images of pop singer Britney Spears, Hollywood starlet Paris Hilton, or any other celebrities.

The McCain camp stirred controversy and generated media buzz last week when it unveiled “Celeb,” an advertisement that appeared to suggest Obama lacked substance – a charge frequently leveled at Hollywood celebrities like Hilton and Spears. The Obama campaign immediately responded to “Celeb” with an ad called “Low Road.”

McCain’s celebrity-themed attacks on Obama also caught the attention of the Hilton family. Kathy Hilton, Paris Hilton’s mother and a contributor to the McCain campaign, called “Celeb” a “waste of money” and Paris Hilton has weighed in with an online video spoofing “Celeb” and poking fun at McCain’s age.

“Family” will air in 11 key states, according to the McCain campaign.

UPDATE: The Obama campaign has released a statement responding to McCain's "Family" ad.  "Is the biggest proponent of George Bush’s tired, failed policies ready to bring about change?  Another day brings another dishonest attack from John McCain," said Obama spokesman Bill Burton in the statement.  Burton also disputed the suggestion that Obama would raise taxes if elected. "It’s time to retire these old policies and bring new energy to America,” Burton added.

Script For "FAMILY"

ANNCR: Is the biggest celebrity in the world ready to help your family?

The real Obama promises higher taxes, more government spending. So, fewer jobs.

Renewable energy to transform our economy, create jobs and energy independence, that's John McCain.

JOHN MCCAIN: I'm John McCain and I approved this message.

As long as we're using Hollywood references for campaigns, after seeing what McCain has been doing, I'd suggest he start using the movie title "Dumb and Dumber" for himself and his VP. McCain, you're a good man. Fire your staff. They're giving you horrible advice. You're going to have a replay of getting shot down over 'Nam if you don't get a good ground crew in there.

I used to respect you, Mr. McCain. I didn't always agree with you, but I respected you. Then there was the Keating 5 "incident". Since then you've wandered farther and farther from what mainstream America wants.

Only a good campaign staff will get you in the White House. So far, you're headed for the Retirement House.

McWrinkle knows all about family. He left one – the one he had with a disabled wife – to start a new one with a beer billionaire with a drug problem and whom he married for the money. McWrinkle knows about family all righty.

Paris Hilton, 27, is no longer a child. She should be able to speak for herself without her mother. I think her newest video is the most positive thing she has done in a long time.

It is a good thing Paris and her Mom spoke out against McCain.

Millions of Americans are voting based on their opinion and example.

That should help Obama gain some more of the idiot vote.

Hey dimwits, Obama already has ALL of the idiot vote! 🙂

Obama is absolutely NOT qualified to be POTUS. Anyone voting for him clearly hates this country. Anyone who would vote a socialist into power has absolutely no respect for the great country that is the United States.

Unless the "former" maverick is day dreaming or living on the Moon (who in his/her right mind would like to have a 3rd BUSHterm??), if I were McCain I would continue with this "Celebrity" nonsense, make JOE LIEBERMAN my VP and lose the election in style

IF the PUMAs hijack the election I will NEVER vote again. The PUMAs must be stopped. They are bitter, jaded angry old white folks who can't stand color..I was a life long Democrat, now I am a registered Independent. IF any Dems vote for McLame you deserve what you vote for!! He will start WW3 and send America into 3rd world status.. The PUMAs dont care about that at all. They only care about ruining the Democratic party and their chance to hold the WH for oh 30-50 years!! IF Hillary weasels her way into the nomination, McCain will surely win and I will renounce my citizenship and relocate to friendlier countries!! America is on the wrong path!!

    This needs to be repeated:

John McCain’s campaign for president recently took him to the annual Sturgis biker rally where he spoke with veterans at the Buffalo Chip Campground. He could not have picked a more appropriate setting to offer up his wife, Cindy McCain, for a topless beauty contest and brag about his record of supporting veterans.

He failed on both counts, however, to give these veterans the full McCain:

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America has given John McCain a grade of D for his support of veterans:

Disabled Veterans of America gave him a 20% rating on support for veterans while giving Obama an 80% rating:

Per Vietnam Veterans of America John McCain has “voted against us” in 15 key votes:

John McCain is one of the few veterans running for office that VoteVets has refused to endorse:

To name just a few votes by John McCain against veterans:

McCain voted against an amendment providing $20 billion for VA medical facilities [5/4/06]

McCain voted against providing $430 million to the VA for outpatient care and treatment for veterans [4/26/06]

McCain voted against increasing VA funding by $1.5 billion by closing corporate loopholes [3/14/06]

McCain voted against increasing VA funding by $1.8 billion by ending abusive tax loopholes [3/10/04]

The man even voted against giving combat duty troops more time at home between extended tours.

John McCain had the gall to not only be rude, but to lie to a vet
about his record of endorsements from veteran groups and then had the nerve to refuse further questioning on the issue:

“I’ve been endorsed in every election by every veterans organization that do that, I’ve been supported by them, and I’ve received their highest awards from all of those organizations."
(So John, I guess they don’t know something you know).

Later, during his town hall meeting, McCain admitted he does “not have a perfect voting record,” and then announced QUESTIONS ABOUT VETERANS ISSUES WERE OFF LIMITS: “I will be glad to debate a lot of things, but not that one.”

Not only was John McCain a no show when it came to voting on the GI Bill he opposed, a bill which the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars fully supported, he now wants to limit veteran health care to only combat related injury in order to save money.

Per retired Army General Robert Gard, McCain’s proposal to limit health care to only combat injuries would “shortchange those veterans who suffer from non-combat related conditions”. McCain is apparently unconcerned about the number of veterans this would affect, including the 15% of female combat veterans who suffer from military sexual trauma.

This comes as no surprise. When the VA was busted recently for
circulating a memo suggesting doctors lower their diagnosis on veterans suffering from PTSD in order to save money, John McCain replied: “it’s not important.”

Older veterans remember well how John McCain and John Kerry shut down all further investigation into remaining MIA/POW in order to open up trade with Vietnam over the protests of family members. They remember full well how these families were treated and talked to by McCain. They also remember how John McCain’s father-in-law immediately opened up a beer industry in Vietnam as soon as trade resumed.

No McCain, not now, not ever.

McCain can't draw a crowd so he insults Obama then goes to a biker rally so he can have one. Then he suggests his wife should enter a topless beauty contest (in front of his daughter) that includes simulated sex acts with bananas-to an audiance of cheering bikers! The old man is SICK and Jealous.

THe media is made up of idiots. The Mcain camp uses these flashy object in the begining to get the media to play them 1000 times per hour and then throws a LIE or MISLEADING statement at the end. Obama is not for higher taxes on 95% of Americans and his take breaks for the not-so-wealthy are three times greater than McCain's. The right always plays the media like idiots and they just keep soaking it up. Obama came out with two hard hiting ads yestarday and because they didn't have flashy intros they were barely picked up by the media.

McGrumpy you better be glad that you are white and that Obama is black because if he was white you would be toast. The only thing that is keeping you run for the White House on life support is race. I know it and the rest of the country and the world knows it too. America is still asleep and stuck on stupid with all of the hate that is stored up in her. McGrumpy is so out of touch that he even tried to enter his wife into a strip contest and didn't know it, well on the other hand maybe he did know.
Old man stay in your place and use some of your wifes money to fix your creepy arms. I don't care how they got like that, they look creepy.
McGrumpy is a total JOKE and the more he talks the more we see. Thousands come to see Obama but McSame has to crash where thousands are to get people to listen to his trash. Ha ha ha LOL

So let me get this straight. The republicans are arguing that Obama is not ready to lead b/c he's a celeb, this coming from the same party that voted an actor into the White House...PRICELESS. Since when has being inspiring and popular a bad thing. I guess we have gotten so used to hating our President and beind dislike around the world that we've become turned off by something different.

McSame, old man, the republican inherited a surplus from the Clinton’s administration; Bush and the republican squander all that money. Bush initiated the tax cut and after 7 years, our deficit has ballooned to over $500 billions. McCain was in Washington all that time as well as all the republicans who have controlled the presidency and the congress for six years. They have done nothing to help Americans. They don't take responsibility. McLiar spends people money with negative ads, scaring people while a lot of Americans are suffering. McBush proposes to cut corporate taxes from 35% to 25%, this old man think that cutting taxes while waging wars will improve the US economy! No so Sir! Those who will vote for you will get what they deserve; the good thing is that Americans people are smart and good for the most part, hence you will not win.

Republicans are not ignorant, but for the most part they are hypocrites. Some of them use religions and talk about it but deep inside them, they don't believe in God, they mock him. Some claim to be pro-life, but they cannot support the living. If Jesus was born today, the republicans would crucify him, yes they are worst than the ancient Romans.
