(CNN) – Barack Obama’s advantage over John McCain remains unchanged – but some voters for both candidates seem to be slipping back into the undecided column, the latest CNN Poll of Polls suggests.
CNN Election Center: View the latest state polls
The presumptive Democratic nominee still holds a 5-point advantage over the presumptive Republican nominee in CNN's average of national polls, 46 to 41 percent, with 13 percent of voters surveyed undecided. On Tuesday, Obama held the same edge, 48 to 43 percent over McCain, and 9 percent of voters said they were unsure of their choice.
CNN’s Wednesday survey of major national polls consists of the CBS survey conducted July 31 to August 5, the AP-IPSOS poll conducted July 31 to August 4, and the Gallup tracking poll results for August 3-5. The CNN poll of polls does not have a margin of error.

IWhen and if the media would give the same amount of attention and scrutiny to mcCain as they do Obama, Obama's lead will increase. To blame Obama because the press chooses to report on him, more negatively than positively at research shows is ridiculous.
One reason Obama is seen more in the press is that all McCain does is talk about Obama. One only has to go on internet blogs to learn about the misteps, lack of coherence and forgetfulness to know that McCain is definitely risky.
OBAMA'S CAMPAIGN IS STALLING EVEN BEFORE THE CONVENTIONS OF BOTH PARTIES. IS HIS OVER EXPOSURE AND
MEDIA- DARLING IMAGE AND RHETORIC FINALLY CATCHING UP WITH HIM?
To the poster Mauri
Once again, what experience are you talking about? Being in Washington for 26 years? Then yeah, McCain beats both Hillary and Barack hands down. It is what he has done in those 26 years and what decisions/judgment he has exercised is the key.
1. John McCain was the main drum beater for this illegal and costly war.
2. He has said himself that he doesn't know too much about the economy.
3. He has no plan to fix the education system.
4. He was on the 5 in the Keating 5 scandal back in the 80's that cost taxpayers billions. Google it.
5. He has voted against most veteran issues. The Veteran Affairs committee gave him a D.
6. He takes campaign money from oil lobbyists, as of June, 1.1 million, which means he is beholden to the oil companies, just like Bush. He has also voted against most renewable energy bills that have been brought up. So don't expect him to do anything about Climate change or the gas prices.
7. Since your a female, youtube his recent video when he was at the Sturgis rally in S. Dakota. He volunteered his wife to be Mrs. Buffalo chip (topless beauty pageant). He also left his crippled wife back in the 70's to marry his current wife. Plus he hasn't supported women's issues. What do you think about his treatment of females now?
Go to Barack's website and look up his past record and his plans. Educate yourself.
Obama/Sebelius 2008/2012.
Joe Kiloz, McCain has been out spending Obama for awhile now. Kinda kills your arguement.
Mauri, if people are lying to pollster, how would they know. This is very wishful thinking. Don't even try to compare Obama to Bush. Bush was the spoiled family drunk who was shuttled into the white house by daddy's friend/corporate America. Obama has worked his way up from nothing.
How do they count the "It's none of your business" votes?
Or the "no comment " votes.
They call and ask for the Male voter in the family. They don't want my opinion. How do they count that? How are the questions framed?
No more polls, please.
CELL PHONES!, CELL PHONES!, CELL PHONES!, CELLPHONES!
Obama is really up +9
It's too early to rely on polls, let's wait until November.
Obama '08
There is a difference between experience and intelligence. I'll take an intelligent, educated, hard-working young 47 year old (Obama) over a poorly educated, ignorant old guy (they call that experience) (McCain) any day.
Time to turn over the keys to the 47 year old dad, grampa, you're getting too old to drive safely.
Obama better wake up. He is kidding himself if he thinks that this is going to be a cake walk. I think that he needs to get back to his message and stay focused because the real issues is not McLame attacks.
If America is sold on those lame attacks by McCain, then they get what they deserve come these next 4 years.
Polls are for sheep who want to be herded and are too lazy to think about issues themselves.
One poll shows Obama leading by 15%, another shows him trailing by 3... let's face it, these polls are both meaningless and useless. They distract people too lazy to think for themselves. But then again, it's not as if the MSM is helping. They are trying to bully people into thinking their way by making them feel like idiots if they dare disagree with the polls. Have you looked at today's political tickers? Number of articles talking about relevant political facts, records, and issues: zero! Number of articles talking about irrelevant campaign strategies and wild speculations: all of them!
The prime and overriding reason for the inability of Obama to increase his lead is race. There is a very, very, very, very large portion of the electorate that will not vote for a (half) black candidate under any circumstances. They will give a BS rationale but the bottom line is that the U.S. is not ready.
I dont' think these polls are worth a flip. They aren't polling anyone with cell phones, which is what most people have these days.
Obama is leading in every demographic. These polls aren't reflecting that.
As a Hillary supporter can't wait to vote Republican. The democratic party dumped the smartest person by supporting that naive and inexperiencesd guy . The Democrats do not have to blame anybody but themselves when McCain wins. Obama can not be trusted and will never win so get use to it right now.
CNN, YOUR POLLS IS NEVER CORRECT. SINCE YOU ARE THE NEW BASHER FOR OBAMA, YOU MIGHT JUST BE BLOGGING TO HELP HIM LOSE.
Many Americans are tired of this very long Presidential contest and weary of constant polling. We all need a break, and the Olympics will provide that. Remaining voters will make up their minds in September and October, particularly after the three scheduled debates where the contrast between Obama's intelligent solutions and McCain's rigid thinking and false patriotism will become evident.
What is wrong with this country? An 'edge' over McCain? Obama should be miles ahead by now.
CAPTAIN SMASH,
AGREE, SOME WILL NEVER VOTE FOR HIM BECAUSE HE IS BLACK AND THEY KNOW HE WILL BE THE BEST PERSON TO BE PRESIDENT.
GOD CREATED US ALL, WE SUPPOSE TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER REGARDLESS OF COLOR, BUT SOME PEOPLE HAS ALLOWED EVIL TO COME INTO THEIR HEARTS AND POSSESSED THEM TO HATE.
To all of the candidates running for president – I would love to see how all of you would survive on $100 for one week. Still keep the needed security and all that goes along with being a candidate, but instead of having someone else pay for your daily needs, the money would come out of the $100. This would include paying for half of the family groceries for that week as well, and for gas. For one week I would love to see how you all fare. And then tell me how you can relate to the daily struggle of survival.
Here's why these polls are meaningless and are genuinely discounting Obama:
1. More and more younger people, which break heavy for Obama, do not have home phones and rely on cellphones which are not called for polling.
2. These are done in the evening when many low-wage workers are still at work. Again, this is a set that breaks heavy for Obama.
3. Minorities tend to fall into the cellphone and/or low wage set. These break heavy for Obama as well.
4. Bob Barr, a heavy McCain detractor, and other third parties are generally not listed as options.
So this 'Why hasn't Obama broken away?' narrative is getting quite old and is quite meaningless.
AFTER BEING SWIFTBOATED OUT .IT WONT MATTER IF HILLARY SPEAKS FOR O.B. HER SUPPORTERS DONT FORGET WHAT THEY DID TO HER. SHE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN IN DEBT IF O.B. DIDN'T BUY HIS RACE. ITS BEEN KNOWN FOR YRS. THAT CANIDATES HELP EACHOTHER WITH THEIR DEBTS.RACE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ELECTING A LEADER UNLESS YOUR A WOMAN.THAT HAS BEEN SHOWNED IN THIS RACE. IF YOU ARE UNEXPERIENCE AT ANY RACE THIS COUNTRY SHOULD WORRY. WOULD YOU SEND YOUR KIDS TO SCHOOL IF THE TEACHER COULDN'T TEACH? COME TO YOUR SENCES AMERICA. WAKE UP BEFORE ITS TO LATE. YOU KICKED OUR BEST CANIDATE TO THE CURB AND SHOVED TWO CANIDATES DOWN OUR THROATS. AMERICA GETS WHAT THEY ASK FOR.
Those Polls they keep printing are off beat and dont let them fool you they know it is just another ploy to get people stirred up and on Cnn or what ever channel it is printed on same old trick.
On one same day Cnn had Obama 8 points ahead Fox had one point ahead. Figure that one????
They have polls up their ying yang and yet no one has ever been known to be contacted anywhere anytime.
Go Obama we love you have a deaf ear on McWars lies he must be google eyeing these young gals he is posting (wishfull thinking McWar they would not give you the time of day just one look was all it took .)
OMG, I saw where Obama's hair is turning white. Well, we can't have a "White Headed Dude" run for President. He had better dye that head. Like omg..like omg..
now if they only gave McPhony more press coverage Obama would be ahead by 30 points but as it stands they have given him and his crooked talk express a free ride. No matter come November the people will levitate Obama to the white house by a landslide. The the GOP will rig the election again its the only way they have been able to win.
when are you going to stop having fits about the polls? the only one that counts is in November. that will be the one that shows a total landslide for mccain since no one wants to vote for an arrogant know it all who has a uber left wing philosophy, even though he gives a good speech. problem is in his speeches he either A) says nothing except empty rhetoric, or B) goes on and on about raising taxes on everything and anything. i am a democrat who has never voted for a republican, i am NOT a racist, and i am not stupid. so dont you obamabots start calling me names. but i am NOT!!! going to vote for obama. i will vote for mccain and i will not feel one bit guilty about it.
