Paris Hilton has fired back in response to presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain's "Celeb" ad comparing the 27-year-old heiress to Barack Obama. The less-than-two-minute spot was paid for by the comedy video Web site funnyordie.com. It features Hilton sprawling in a lounge chair in a swimsuit. The socialite mocks McCain's ad, saying, "I want America to know that I'm, like, totally ready to lead."

LA Times: Obama pumped up over attack on his energy strategy
They've bickered over war and peace, taxes and healthcare. Now Barack Obama and John McCain are at odds over an issue not quite so weighty: the tire gauge.

WSJ Op-Ed: Sen. Hillary R. Clinton: No Crisis Is Immune From Exploitation Under Bush

Washington Post: Bundler Collects From Unlikely Donors
The bundle of $2,300 and $4,600 checks that poured into Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign on March 12 came from an unlikely group of California donors: a mechanic from D&D Auto Repair in Whittier, the manager of Rite Aid Pharmacy No. 5727, the 30-something owners of the Twilight Hookah Lounge in Fullerton.

Days after Rage Against the Machine's Lollapalooza set threatened to become a riot, the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune's website has reported [via Rolling Stone's Rock & Roll Daily] that the band will play Minneapolis' Target Center on September 3. Making this show more than just another tour date is the fact that it's happening during the Republican National Convention, which will take place in the Twin Cities from September 1-4:

Financial Times: Politics and petrol
Forget Iraq, forget global warming. The soaring price of oil, and the cost of filling a car with petrol, has concentrated the minds of cash-strapped US voters. It has pushed energy to the front of an increasingly fractious debate between John McCain and Barack Obama, Republican and Democratic presidential contenders. Both men have tried to win support with populist gestures, be they petrol tax relief or a windfall levy on oil companies. A more rounded approach is needed.

I would suggest something patriotic from the Bama Camp; Something novel would suffice, like saying the Pledge or flying the Flag or praying to Jesus.

I think Obama is like a hot air balloon. Both are famous for doing nothing of substance. Yes that is the ticket. Yes, Bam is big; so is the balloon. He is pretty; as is the balloon. He thinks he soars; so does the balloon. He is full of hot air and so is the balloon. there you go.

Obama is so full of hot air he and he alone could fill all the tires in America with hot air and that would elevate the vehicle to save rubber which in turn would save gas. So Obama could be called the "HotAirBamPump." That would be a full time job, so he could quit his quest. He needs to get real.

BTW Paris and Obama are celebs without a portfolio. Both are famous for being famous for accomplishing nothing.

Obama is risky so is Paris. Obama has a funny name so does Paris, Obama sounds foreign, duh so does Paris.

Two birds of a feather if you ask me.

Dave:

You're a hollow shell of a commentator. What does your comment have to do with Rage Against the Machine's concert? Nothing. Seems like if there's a fast talker here it's you.

Chuck, Montgomery, AL   August 6th, 2008 8:49 am ET

This is not a popularity contest.

You know, this country is in trouble losing jobs, houses, and all else. And the multi-millionaires of this country go around making jokes. I find them offensive,. Glad I switched from republican. They are the party of the rich for the rich.

I want to hear the issues without the tasteless jokes.

Annette, Washington, DC   August 6th, 2008 8:46 am ET

Shame on you CNN for pumping up David Freddiso book, shame on you. Obama public record has been a matter of public record for years, this guy is using this book to manipulate folks for the general election and you- CNN is helping him. In addition to that, every tiddle of negative feedback you have manage to make news on CNN on Obama. There has been very little negative coverage by CNN on McCain from his miscorrections on Iraq, mis-step after mistep.. his voting records in the Senate, yesterday docudrama in Sturgis and his outrageous talking points sitting on a music stand? CNN you all with so far as to check with the dept of energy to confirm if Obama was correct about tire pressure, now really, anybody who drives should now that well known piece of information. But what about McCain at the famous nuclear plant that oops almost had one of those nuclear melt downs?? You didn't bother to tell your audience that??? But to wake up in the morning to see this ego-tripping author on your network trying to promote sales of his book for support for McCain, this smells like another Bush attack for 2008. Uh...keeping them honest, no CNN you keep it honest.

K of TX   August 6th, 2008 8:45 am ET

Dave,

Sorry, but your comment is completely based in a fantasy world.
If you actually think Barack Obama is a racist and that voting for McCain is supporting Hillary, you REALLY haven't been paying attention.

Don't let your bitterness confuse you....

OBAMA is the only true answer to our problems. PUMAS are not true DEMOCRATS only republicans in wolves clothing and we true DEMOCRATS see this. HRC will never be a POTUS or VICPOTUS. She knows the way now is with OBAMA and if PUMAS were loyal to her they would get behind her and him that is if PUMAS were true DEMOCRATS which they are not.

I was impressed, I did not realize se knew so many big words. That's hot!

Mike   August 6th, 2008 8:18 am ET

The only problem is that Obama is coming out with one plan at a time. Why is that? It is because he made it through the primaries with rhetoric and no subtance on issues. If he was forced to come out with real detailed policy issues in June on all major issues he would have been exposed. Obama is trying to get by with his charm and just enough details on major policies to get by. Why do you think he does not want a Lincoln-Douglas style debate? Answer: He does not want McCain to be in charge of the questions that will expose him as a empty suit.

RE: OBAMA / PELOSI ENERGY POLICY–NO DRILLING

For all of you Obama supporters who are against drilling offshore, nature reserves, and in Anwar for oil and gas–why is it that you don't mind putting gas in your vehicle, turning your heaters on in the winter, putting your leftover food in plastic bags, painting the walls in your home, etc. IF those petroleum products come from other states like TEXAS, OKLAHOMA, LOUISANA, and MISSISSIPPI, but NOT YOUR STATE? You don't mind taking the natural resources from other states–just don't touch YOURS, right? What hypocrites you are! I bet you are still driving a gas guzzling SUV! Get real and get with the program–a handful of states shouldn't have to bear the responsibility of providing all of you with the fuel to make your world hunky dory.

Dave   August 6th, 2008 6:43 am ET

Democrats need to join forces with John McCain. Obama has proved himself to be a racist. He also flip flops on issues as Hillary Clinton stated that he would do. Obama is an empty shell of change. Avery fast talker with no results.
