For all of you who say McCain does not have an economic plan, you are wrong. Why does he have so many Ivy League economists backing his proposals? Take off the blinders. Come to the middle, it's nice here.
As for Obama, his plan will cripple us. Take more money from the oil companies??? Are you serious? They will get it back and then some. Great plan you great visionary. Tried that once and it failed. If it's broke, quit using it.
This country does need a change, but the "chosen" one is not the answer.

Unfortunately neither Congress or the next President will have sole power to improve the American economy due to WORLDWIDE problems. It is incredibly naive for American's to think that a "magic wand" can be waved by either political party and things will automatically get better within the US. Hardly.
Until American politicians and government officials strengthen the US dollar and deal with the worldwide oil crunch, nothing will get better.
Fed doesn't change rates > dollar strengthens > oil prices fall. Duh!
The next few years will be even more brutal to Americans if we don't get some long range plans started (e.g offshore drilling, more nuclear power with advanced reactors, 100,000 wind turbines, larger strategic petroleum reserve, etc.)

Before the primary season began people were saying Hillary Clinton would polarize the country. Along comes Barack Obama, and people are saying he will polarize the country. The primary season is over, and truer words were never spoken. As an American, a Democrat, a human being, a white person, a male i have my differences with with Clinton, and Obama. After the disasterous eight years of republicans, i think we as Democrats must rise above our differences, and the excuses we use to continue that polarization in our party. We can not make the grave mistake of putting McCain, or any republican in the presidency. We can change our thinking on sex, and race,....if we want to. In my opinion we can, and must elect a Democrat for President. America has to recover from the eight years of greed, corruption, lying, selfishness, and the war.What is more important to us? President Bush inheritated a recession from the Clinton admistration and they was hit by 911. Bush's economic policies pulled us out of the Clinton recession and saw 6 years of economic growth, with low inflation and unemployment.

Then Pelosi and Reid took over congress in 2006. Under their and Obama's leadership, this country has fallen into a recession with raising inflation and unemployment and all time high gas prices at the pump.

Only and idiot would want 4 more years of that kind of leadership.

I think when Congress get the budget balanced then they should get a raise not until though. I am hoping with all my heart that when we do get our troops home that they have something to come back to with pride, and all their sacrifices aren't in vain. This country has never been a cut and run outfit.
Now it is time to stand up and make sure we have someone in office that isn't going to tax them out on to the streets. They shouldn't have to come home and wonder what they were fighting for even if they had been lied to about why they went. They did what they felt was right for their country. I just did the Quick poll on the CNN Homepage. It asks, What's most on your mind in picking a president? And it lists Healthcare, Iraq and the economy. The number one answer at %100 (when I answered the survey) was the economy.

Actually, there is some debate regarding whether the President or the Congress have more impact on the economy. Some people would argue that when the GOP controlls the Congress (Clinton years...) then the economy does better.

I don't know if I buy all of that, but you need to understand that this is a complicated issue. You can't give all the credit/blame to the President. We do need ALL members of Congress to be more responsible and not vote for spending unless its absolutely necessary. I think all of the members of Congress who authorized the Iraq war should be voted out.

You clearly have placed all blame on the Pres. I was under the impression that Congress had quite a bit to do with the economy.

Obama represents a positive economic change from the failed Bush policies of the past eight years, which McCain has adopted.
