The tire gauge sent to CNN by the RNC to mock Obama’s suggestion that drivers inflate their tires to save gas.
The tire gauge sent to CNN by the RNC to mock Obama’s suggestion that drivers inflate their tires to save gas.

ELKHART, Indiana (CNN) - The Obama traveling press corps arrived at its hotel Tuesday night to find not only their room keys waiting on a table in the lobby but white packages containing 'Obama Energy Plan' tire gauges.

"Happy Birthday, Barack Obama," read the note that came in the package from the Republican National Committee in Washington, D.C. "In celebration of Barack Obama's special day, the RNC is sending you an important gift in his honor."

It then quotes Obama's contention that properly inflated tires would save as much energy as could be gained by increased drilling.

"Instead of actually increasing America's domestic oil supply, this is how Obama thinks you should try to alleviate your pain at the pump," the note ends, with "best wishes" from the RNC.

The gauges were sent to producers from the five major TV networks and most print reporters. They came in several colors, including gold, blue and green.

Upon seeing the gauges, Obama spokeswoman Linda Douglass said, "You can use it to check all the hot air coming out of [McCain's] Straight Talk Express.

A senior adviser handed out gauges on McCain's campaign plane and they were passed out outside Obama's energy speech in Lansing, Michigan, on Monday.

"They think it's funny that they're making fun of something that is actually true," Obama said Tuesday in Ohio. "They need to do their homework."

Everyone please try this....it will definately help you decide who you should vote for!!!!

I would like everyone to google Sen. Obama's resume. Please copy and paste it to Word. Then replace his name with any general name, like Mike Johnson. Then replace the address and phone number with your own.

Now, leave everything as is on the resume, except remove "United States Senator" and its relevant information. (we are doing this because well lets face it he has only been in Congress for less than two years and has spent that time running for President).

Now comes the fun part. Go to your local city newspapers help wanted section. Locate ten "prestigous" jobs in your city such as CEO, or senior partner at a law firm.

Mail this resume to the appropriate address. Wait 30 days and tell me how many interviews you have been offered!!!!

This is great I did this....and guess how many responses I got to the resume!!!!!!! HAHAHA thats right people

ZERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you need anymore proof that he is not qualified to be POTUS???????????

I'm beginning to think that the RNC and the McCain campaign are being run by 12 year-olds. Their tactics remind me of the "clever" things I would do in middle school.

Brian   August 6th, 2008 11:13 am ET

It's clear the RNC wasted a ton of money on this gimmick and now they're desperately trying to get rid of all the boxes of tire gauges they have laying around.

McCain’s Record of Vet Support, Just Another Buffalo Chip

John McCain’s campaign for president recently took him to the annual Sturgis biker rally where he spoke with veterans at the Buffalo Chip Campground. He could not have picked a more appropriate setting to offer up his wife, Cindy McCain, for a topless beauty contest and brag about his record of supporting veterans. He failed on both counts, however, to give these veterans the full McCain:

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America has given John McCain a grade of D for his support of veterans:

Disabled Veterans of America gave him a 20% rating on support for veterans while giving Obama an 80% rating:

Per Vietnam Veterans of America John McCain has “voted against us” in 15 key votes:

John McCain is one of the few veterans running for office that VoteVets has refused to endorse:

To name just a few votes by John McCain against veterans:

McCain voted against an amendment providing $20 billion for VA medical facilities [5/4/06]

McCain voted against providing $430 million to the VA for outpatient care and treatment for veterans [4/26/06]

McCain voted against increasing VA funding by $1.5 billion by closing corporate loopholes [3/14/06]

McCain voted against increasing VA funding by $1.8 billion by ending abusive tax loopholes [3/10/04]

The man even voted against giving combat duty troops more time at home between extended tours.

John McCain had the gall to not only be rude, but to lie to a vet
about his record of endorsements from veteran groups and then had the nerve to refuse further questioning on the issue:

“I’ve been endorsed in every election by every veterans organization that do that, I’ve been supported by them, and I’ve received their highest awards from all of those organizations. So I guess they don’t know something you know.”

Later, during his town hall meeting, McCain admitted he does “not have a perfect voting record,” and then announced questions about veterans issues were off limits: “I will be glad to debate a lot of things, but not that one.”

Not only was John McCain a no show when it came to voting on the GI Bill he opposed, a bill which the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars fully supported, he now wants to limit veteran health care to only combat related injury in order to save money. Per retired Army General Robert Gard, McCain’s proposal to limit health care to only combat injuries would “shortchange those veterans who suffer from non-combat related conditions”. McCain is apparently unconcerned about the number of veterans this would affect, including the 15% of female combat veterans who suffer from military sexual trauma.

This comes as no surprise. When the VA was busted recently for
circulating a memo suggesting doctors lower their diagnosis on veterans suffering from PTSD in order to save money, John McCain replied: “it’s not important.”

Older veterans remember well how John McCain and John Kerry shut down all further investigation into remaining MIA/POW in order to open up trade with Vietnam over the protests of family members. They remember full well how these families were treated and talked to by McCain. They also remember how John McCain’s father-in-law immediately opened up a beer industry in Vietnam as soon as trade resumed.

The Republicans are a bunch of morons. They can not win on real issues so they result to acting like 5th graders. What these idiots don't realize is IF they get into office they still have to gain bi-partisan support to get anything done in Washington. I hope they realize that Karl Rove "permanent campaign" tactics don't work. The Bush presidency is evidence of this. Wake up America

Another grumpy old white woman for Obama   August 6th, 2008 11:00 am ET

There is nothing funny about this election. McCain can't tell a joke anyway. Given the national and global situation, for the GOP to make a joke out of everything is a clue to their mindset. They are laughing but the rest of us are hurting. Do they care? No they do not. Will they admit they are wrong? No they will not. They have theirs and the rest of us can go to hell. They are LIARS. Do not believe them for one minute. This "war" in Iraq has broken us. We are deep in debt to China. Our kids are dying and the Repugs are laughing. All the way to the bank.
Save what's left of our reputation.
Vote Obama

McCain=McSame, Toledo, Ohio   August 6th, 2008 10:57 am ET

I think it's childish for the GOP to be making fun of something that the govt. its self has on their own website.

For those to lazy to read Obamas Energy Plan and find out what the context of the tire gauge comment was...he was asked by someone in the crowd what they could do personally to help. His response was the correct one. He does have long term plans to help overall and willing to compromise with off shore drilling to help the long term plan. You should do your homework before speaking out like the GOP inappropriately.

Do I want a 3-4% savings instantly that won't cost me a dime of tax payers money? You betcha ...of course the GOP don't want it, they only want to spend more money. Go figure...Go Obama.

Mildred, OH   August 6th, 2008 10:54 am ET

Once again McCain is so lame, he CAN'T win on his own merits. He's got to win by tricks and gimmicks. He knows that his voters are so stupid, they will believe anything. Like that stunt in South Dakota. So if John can't get the crowd to come to him, he's going to go to the crowd, and PRETEND they came to see him.

Jason in Tucson   August 6th, 2008 10:40 am ET

I don't think the Obama campaign quite gets it. McCain isn't making fun of making sure you tires are properly inflated as a way to improve fuel economy, he is making fun of the fact that this is about the only useful thing Obama has to say about solving the fuel crisis.

RJ   August 6th, 2008 10:39 am ET

I'd love to hear from McCain's supporters–do they actually believe that this is a good use of their contributions? This is a painfully stupid move by McCain. I have been an Obama supporter from the beginning but at one time felt i wouldn't be despondent if McCain won the election......now i certainly feel that i would be. He has gone from tolerable to becoming a joke.

All you PUMA's....do you really honestly believe that your making a point is worth 4 years of hell? why were you behind Hillary to begin with if you can absolutely go against everything she stood for to vote for this bozo??

Right Angle:
Ha, love it. Obama's new health care plan is for everyone to eat an apple a day! It'll save millions in health care costs!
And he calls Republicans idiots…ha

Facts seem not to matter to Republicans just because Obama offers solutions that are more complex then four words "drill here drill now" drives them crazy. Check the facts.

Obama does not need to call Republicans idiots they are doing a great job themselves: like this guage gimmick and Paris and Britney celeb commercial makes the Republican brand look like idiots.

Please Republicans let rest of America now exactly how are this a serious debate; all I see is Obama talking about issues and Republicans attacking Obama patriotism, youth, popularity, his name, and even his race.

McCain must have been a riot in college. Short-sheeting everyone's beds etc. Not very becoming in a 72 yr old man though. And childish jokes are the last thing we need in a president.

His sense of humor reminds me a lot of George Bush's. I can see them both laughing and pulling pranks as this country goes down the tubes.

If Republicans could get any more stupid, I am sure they would. However, after the new "team" has taken over McCane's campaign, it is hard to believe that is possible.

What a shame that he gets the mother's mother, and disparages the daughter using that money.

What a shame that there isn't an independent body to approve political messages based on accuracy and substance.

What a shame that McCane has put Karl Rove to shame with his disgusting ads. If this this the way he is going to spend money, I don't want him as a president.

If anyone other than McCane had won the Republican nomination, I would still be a Repub. People should dig into his past. It's all out there on the net. Google people.

Republican for CHANGE!   August 6th, 2008 10:29 am ET

This just demonstrates how completely out of touch McSame is from the American, working people. Proper inflation of tire pressure has a HUGE effect on gas mileage, up to 10%.

Just do the math.
A 20 MPG vehicle with a 15 gallon tank gets you 300 miles.
Proper inflation saves 2 miles a gallon x 15 gallons is 30 miles more per tank.
At $4 a gallon that equals $6 a fill up.

This is a HECK of a lot more than McSames gas tax holiday that he put so much spin into. A clean air filter will save you even more!

It’s obvious McSame doesn’t want to actually save you gas. He simply wants to do what bush/cheney have been pushing for and thats to SELL you more gas. Drill more sell more. It’s an offense to any intelligent American and a continuation of a despicable administration!

hello   August 6th, 2008 10:28 am ET

According to AAA to have your tire pressure as suggested by Manf.
Saves you 4% to 5% which is what Oil drilling will save.
and as I predicted watch out oil and gas price is coming down before Nov. election as manipulated by cronies in Republican party working closely w/ oil co. and their oil traders.

All of you individuals making fun of inflating your tires and making sure the maintenance of your car is maintain – will save your money at the gas station – I only want to say – read your car manual, listen to AAA, and the auto repair shop owners. But I forgot you only in the third grade and cannot comprehend what you read nor hear.

The Obama Energy Plan consists of getting morans to fill their tires to proper pressure?

Any more questions on his obvious lack of leadership abilities??

Texas M   August 6th, 2008 10:23 am ET

99% of people ALREADY HAVE THEIR TIRES PROPERLY INFLATED!!!

That means 99% of people won't save additional money on gas.

The saddest thing about this is that some idiot at McCain HQ thinks it would actually influence the coverage of the campaign.

Because we all know conservation is wimpy, and oil drilling is manly, right McCain? What other possible message could they be sending? It doesn't matter if inflating your tires actually works, it just sounds so lame, and oil drilling sounds so vigorous and exciting!

It's better to be smart than tough. That may not have been true in the world McCain grew up in, but it's true now, and it's exactly why Obama will be a better President than McCain could ever be.

Irene   August 6th, 2008 10:21 am ET

Senator Obama should consider those tire gauges a true gift. The talk about them will inspire people to check out the details of Barack Obama's ENERGY PLAN..........it is very forthright and will bring the CHANGE our Country needs!

OBAMA / 08

RNC is out of touch   August 6th, 2008 10:19 am ET

I don't think RNC is ignorant they're a bunch of idiots what else could explain 8 years of Bush.

FYI conservation is not a joke unlike "drilling here and now" it can make a difference "now".

Jesse - San Antonio TX   August 6th, 2008 10:19 am ET

Obama is telling people to inflate their tires properly to conserve gas because, like McCain he has recieved money from People who work for the Oil Industry and has no intention to do anything about oil costs. Why should he? He can afford it. And if he gets the job, he can continue to fly all over on Airforce One on our dime.

Obama, like President Bush who started the practice, uses "poolers' to gather money from induviduals. It' s a way to get around the campaign finance laws.

A Loop hole.

Like the convienient loop hole in the Obama bill that allows Politicians to still recieve gifts and dinners from Lobbyists.

That's why Obama does speeches, not press conferences. Everything is perfectly scripted and perfectly worded so he can say, I didn't say that, I said this. Think back to the Vanilla Ice sample of Under Pressure... Thats what he reminds me of.

He's a lawyer first and formost. His very nature is to lie as a lawyer. Have you ever met an honest one?

Texas M   August 6th, 2008 10:19 am ET

I"m glad to see this.

Obama and Nancy Pelosi are destroying this country by refusing to drill for domestic oil. We have so much oil at our fingertips, it's ridiculous.

Neither Obama nor Nancy Pelosi know anything about oil.

WE NEED OIL, you don't just put it in your car! Oil is needed to make paints, many plastics, ALL machinery requires oil and the list goes on.

Instead, Obama and Pelosi want us to "save the environment" by sending 300 BILLION per year to Muslim countries.

The McCain supporters are out of touch even more than thought...do they read all the information that is out there that the average American citizen can do NOW to help with energy efficiency...obviously not...I hope the average American WILL check the air pressure in their tires, etc in that it will help...little bits add up as reported!

I just started using my cruise control and lowered my speed by 5 mph and have increased my gas mileage by .6 mph...make fun of it Republicans...but felt good to me.

Mike   August 6th, 2008 10:15 am ET

It's sad. Rather than come out and say that they support preventive automobile maintenance as well, which should make the car dealers a lot of money and will save gas, and take the wind out of Obama's sails, they come back to the "increased consumption over all" message.

The problem with making something someone else's problem is that it's saying that you can't do anything about it–you're powerless. Do he Republicans really want to lead a nation of powerless sheep? ... That's a rhetorical question, I'm not sure I want to hear the answer.

I'm voting for the candidate that treats American citizens like people with at least some control over their destiny, and not like helpless children in need of spoon-feeding.

The McCain camp chooses to be ignorant. It is a choice. They don't have to be ignorant because inflating your tires is proven to improve gas mileage by 3 to 4%. You can find it on the internet everywhere. Oh yeah, John McCain doesn't know how to use a computer.

Janelle   August 6th, 2008 10:13 am ET

It only shows how out of touch McCain and the RNC is with the plight of ordinary Americans. My father taught all his children how small things like keeping properly inflated tires, as well as other things, would help save at the gas pump. I guess McCain and his rich wife don't know these things because they don't have to worry about all the things regular people do.

Jesse, St. Louis Park, MN   August 6th, 2008 10:09 am ET

Everybody keeping their tires properly inflated would save more gas than what would be produced in 7 years by allowing more off-shore drilling (which is primary aspect of the Republican's and McCain's energy plan).

Fight ignorance, vote Democrat!

Shari, NY   August 6th, 2008 10:08 am ET

This is a quote from TIME

"But who's really out of touch? The Bush Administration estimates that expanded offshore drilling could increase oil production by 200,000 bbl. per day by 2030. We use about 20 million bbl. per day, so that would meet about 1% of our demand two decades from now. Meanwhile, efficiency experts say that keeping tires inflated can improve gas mileage 3%, and regular maintenance can add another 4%. Many drivers already follow their advice, but if everyone did, we could immediately reduce demand several percentage points. In other words: Obama is right. "

Well, it seems as if the infatuation with Barack continues . He gets a birthday gift too.

Farnk, Las Vegas   August 6th, 2008 10:08 am ET

I just heard McCain's speech on energy. Just general statements, "we're going to do what we have to do in order to supply new forms of energy". That's a plan? Very similar to his speech yesterday about Iraq, "we're going to win in Iraq by winning" dah....what the hell does that mean?
Then I heard Obama's speech on energy. He gave a point by point outline of his plan, how he's going to pay for it and how much money each point in his plan would save.

Specifics or rambling jabber? The answer could never be easier. John McSame, can you spell LANDSLIDE?

Greg Pottstown PA   August 6th, 2008 10:07 am ET

The presure of your tries should be at or near max ,no dought about that. You can save more gas by driveing slower or keeping your rpm down. Not to mention that most people keep tires at a good presure any way. His plan is a dumb one. I really don't think he is teaching anyone anything new,I have known this since i was about 10.

Anonymous   August 6th, 2008 10:07 am ET

Do McCain's epople really think this tire gauge thing is funny? This is what they're pinning the campaign's hopes on?

They pull one line out of a speech (that happens to be true) and keep repeating it and telling people it's funny. And of course, the sheep fall in line.

Don't ever start a statement with a phrase like, "The American people are smart enough. . . " They're not.

Jill American   August 6th, 2008 10:06 am ET

Tire air pressure, a clean car and driving at 55 can ALL save gas. Here in Jersey, where a car is necessary, we are all taking steps to save fuel. Less used, less cost, less drilling, less dependence.

More of an 'Ask not what your country can do for, ask what you can do for your country' idea from Obama, don't you think?

I would NEVER pull the lever for McCain and I am not an Obama fan but this is just plain stupid of McCain.

Rosa Birmingham, AL   August 6th, 2008 10:03 am ET

Unfortunately it is true that if you keep your car tuned up and tires full you will save more gas then we will get from off shore drilling. And you will see the savings sooner.

I read somewhere that 50% of Americans think that off shore drilling will lower gas prices in a year. Where do these people come from? It will be sad when they find our they were lied to again by the GOP. Government estimates say that even in 10 years when we finally start drilling the effect on gas prices will be negligible due to the miniscule amount of oil we will get . It is expensive to get that oil out, do you really think the oil companies would do it if it lowered prices. Get real. I personally don't care one way or the other if they drill but I think it is sad that they are lying about the result and that a lot of people will be hurt because they were expecting prices to drop significantly.

Hillarious   August 6th, 2008 10:02 am ET

It's shameful that the RNC is mocking a way for all of us to make sure we're not wasting gas (and tires – which are made from oil too). I'd gladly take some of those tire gauges and give them to family and friends.

This is pretty funny. If everyone with underinflated tires actually made sure their tires were properly inflated, but not only that – with good tread wear and properly balanced, the overall effect would reduce gas consumption. It might not account for a $3 decrease in gas at the pump, but it would reduce consumption, which reduces demand, which reduces price....

why is this news, the auto industry, tire mfgs and mechanics have been telling us this for years. suddenly it comes out of bho mouth and it is news. let's use some of the oil we have and stop depending upon the rest of the world to sell it to us. yours, mine and our money is going to countries that really don't like us - they do how ever like our money. i guess bho(obama) is waiting for us to use up all the world oil and then we will be the only country with supplies. come on bho get with it.

Mr. Obama opposes more drilling because he is in bed with Big Agribusiness. Big Farm likes the high demand created by growing corn for both food and biofuel. Big Farm, however, cannot grow enough corn to meet both increasing food and fuel needs, since the nation's supply of corn is basically fixed by the number of farm acres available. Mr. Obama's plan will lead to both higher food and fuel prices.

Devin   August 6th, 2008 9:51 am ET

Wow! Just wow. I can't believe that people plan on voting for this guy. Sure, having your tired inflated to the right pressure will increase you MPG, but so will turning off the AC, driving the speed limit, and any number of other things. These are all things that the individual needs to do, not the government. We need a President capable of making a plan on the large scale that will not increase our MPG by 1 or 2 but that will actually consider smart, well planned ways of decreasing our dependancy on foreign oil and solve the current crisis. Now off-shore drilling may not be the best idea to do this, but its leaps and bounds beyond Obama's nonsensical plan to raise awareness of tire pressure.

The Nightingale Sings in Berkley Square   August 6th, 2008 9:49 am ET

Obama is so full of hot air he and he alone could fill all the tires in America with hot air and that would elevate the vehicle to save rubber which in turn would save gas. So Obama could be called the "HotAirBamPump." That would be a full time job, so he could quit his quest. He needs to get real.

Yeterday I was realy shocked 2 times in 5 minutes Situation Room.

First: I saw John McCain speeking for members of a motorclub.
I saw an old man who read every line from paper. He walked away
every time and had to go back for the next line.
I saw a man who is running for President of the USA and I felt realy sorry for him because all of his bodytalk tells me he is not capable for the job. I think that this campain is already to much for this man so what wil it be when he 's got elected in november!

The second shock was the remark of Gloria Borger that Barack Obama should re-introduce himself to the American public!
My goodness, I am a normal Dutchman and I follow Barack after
the DNC 5 years agoo. I than said, I saw today the first Black American President!
And that man needs a re-introduction in the USA?
Americans are; not interested in politics, are realy stupid or does not
care for there future!

America, wake up and realize this is a historic moment in your history!
Go to te site of Barack Obama and read his political program and tell everyone Barack will be a great President
Then all Americans wil know that you have a brilliant candidate. He will be respected all over the world.

Vote for Barack Obama

With love from the Netherlands.

Obama said it right when he said the RNC along with McCain were ignorant. It is a fact that what Obama said is true. Check your tires, check your oil, tune up your car, slow down. All true. The only reason the Republican party is pushing for offshore drilling so hard is so that in 10 years the oil companies can still raise prices to $4.00, the only difference is we won't be able to blame OPEC. We can then blame the Big oil companies, their Shareholders who have reaped record profits, unabated, and with no thought as to how many Americans have been hurt by their little folly. Shame on Big oil and The Republican party.

There is such a disrespect for this young man! Which by the way he is not young by the way...in our 40s aren't we middle age!

I cannot wait for the day to see McCain's generation tell him to get out your time is up; you do not represent our values any more because you cannot respect others and change anything about your own behaviors! He is blinded by the idea of getting to the White House...before it' too late for him! Well, it is! A President that can show us the utmost respect between generations is what people are looking for in a leader...and right now this takes a lot of energy to succeed at not becoming as cynical as McCain..but then again we are facing a disappearing Brand and Thank God we will discover a real new and quality Brand proud of our real values!

Fed up GOP'r   August 6th, 2008 9:32 am ET

It is really sad that McCain gets pleasure out of making fun of other people. Even more sad, is the fact that Obama is right on this, and properly inflated tires decrease gasoline consumption by 10% on average. Too bad McCain is too closed minded to listen to other suggestions.

WAIT A MINUTE – we all ready have a closed minded president in the white house. McCain = McSame....

PELOSI SUCKS   August 6th, 2008 9:31 am ET

From a PR perspective, this is GENIUS

What agency does the McCain camp work with?
I want to work for them!!!!!!!!!!

Vickie, Maryland   August 6th, 2008 9:30 am ET

I have to say that the McCain camp just doesn't seem to get it. What do they think they will accomplish with this "Childishness"? Seriously, they're like a group of middle school kids.

arun   August 6th, 2008 9:30 am ET

Are 3rd graders running McCain's campaign now ?

Jamaal Kansas   August 6th, 2008 9:30 am ET

this is stupid all economist say that if you fully inflate your tires you will save gas but the stupid Republicans don't know that the are on a sinking ship into a black Hole Barack Obama is the best Option and Cnn needs to stop reporting these Gimmicks and reports some real news!

Terri   August 6th, 2008 9:30 am ET

This is serious business and they are joking like a bunch of frat boys .

Go Bam

I want one I need to check my tire pressure. Obama is so smart I love this man. LOL

Neal   August 6th, 2008 9:29 am ET

The truth doesn't matter.
McCain is so irresponsible.
Instead of noting it as a good point he mocks a method that could save Americans millions.
Why? Because no one who can give him millions can make any money off of it.
Big oil doesn't want properly inflated tires, that would lower their profits.

Peter   August 6th, 2008 9:28 am ET

thats dumb

Barack Obama is Our 44th president! YES WE CAN !   August 6th, 2008 9:27 am ET

The RNC and McCain are petty, childish, foolish, and uninformed. Indeed, they do take pride in being ignorant. If this wasn't so then they wouldn't be bent on mocking what everyone knows is true, well it seems every intelligent person but them knows, and that is every expert will tell you that gas consumption WILL reduce if tires are properly inflated.

I truly hope the American people will get it right this time and vote for change. It's definitely time for REAL change in Washington, it's time to elect Barack Obama for president !

Brina   August 6th, 2008 9:27 am ET

They are so proud to be "ignorant". Pathetic.

applecrispbetty   August 6th, 2008 9:27 am ET

Don't the gauges save more than drilling? I don't get it, Repubs. Please explain.

Jeff Brown   August 6th, 2008 9:27 am ET

Those GOP-ers are such cut ups! Pretty soon they will bring out the whoopie cushions, joy buzzers and rubber chickens! YEE HAH!

Mark   August 6th, 2008 9:27 am ET

wow... that's pretty low using someone's birthday as a medium to attack them on.

And they're misinformed and lying about the subject.

I guess this is just part of the "Straight Talk" and deep sense of honor that makes up McCain.

Ian   August 6th, 2008 9:26 am ET

McCain's campaign seems more like a little girls sleepover than anything else. What a sad excuse for a man.

Linda from Prescott AZ   August 6th, 2008 9:25 am ET

McCain and his advisors are idiots.

Sarah L, Fayetteville, AR   August 6th, 2008 9:24 am ET

McCain should let it go. The tire gauges were petty and stupid and they ought to give it up before looking more like 12 year olds.

CW4Barack   August 6th, 2008 9:24 am ET

McShriveled and his cohorts are all very funny.....let's see who is laughting in November!

Barack the vote!

A Nightingale Sings in Berkeley Square   August 6th, 2008 9:24 am ET

They need to tdo their homework, haha. Good one, Barry. We've known about the advantages of properly inflated tires for years, we just DIDN'T know that it could solve the enegry problem and have the same effect as drilling for the oil on the continental shelf. Thaks for helping us out on that one with your pathetic energy non-plan.

Irma in North Carolina   August 6th, 2008 9:24 am ET

These guys are abouselty sick. They need to pay attention to the important things that are going on. I hope and pray this will back fire on them. Remember what goes around comes around. Mccain is so great, let me ask you where is his flag pin. And How come the vice president isnt even going to the republican convention. That ought to tell you some thing about Mccain. His whole camp is turning into a bunch of racits, and the need to be brougt down on their knees.

Chris L.   August 6th, 2008 9:24 am ET

What a bunch of immature children the GOP has become! Please people, it's obvious they think you're a bunch of idiots who don't think very much. Stop rewarding them with votes and put them in a decade long (or more) time out.

Informed Voter   August 6th, 2008 9:23 am ET

"It's Like These Guys Take Pride In Being Ignorant" .. LMAO

Danielle, TX   August 6th, 2008 9:23 am ET

“It's like these guys take pride in being ignorant.” Just felt the need to reiterate Obama's words.

Javone   August 6th, 2008 9:23 am ET

ROFL I don't even know what to say! Maybe I will have something to say to this foolishness once I watch some cartoons and eat cereal in my pj's with the feet in them LOL Maybe on mccain's birthday they should roll in wheelchairs or pictures of Mccain's first wife or videos of mccain saying we are better off now than we were. LOL WOW!

Terry, Lakeland Florida   August 6th, 2008 9:23 am ET

Obama needs to do his homework as well. Studies have shown that keep your tires inflated correctly will save gas, but it's anywhere from 1 to 4%. Offshore Drilling will net us a 5 to 6% increase in oil reserves, that's 5 to 6% less terror oil we'll be buying...you do the math.

JDC // Ohio   August 6th, 2008 9:22 am ET

Put a windmill in front of Obama for more "energy."

Dexter   August 6th, 2008 9:21 am ET

Um... McCane just came out and said Obama was right and keeping your tires inflated will help gas milage... Do these people pay attention at all or are they just making up things as they go.

You'd think they'd have learned from the "gas Tax" lie.

I can't believe McCane was the best candidate the republican's could find. The man is a danger to America.

Open Your 3rd Eye   August 6th, 2008 9:21 am ET

Ok, the tire gauge thing is just old now. First it was dumb, now it's old and dumb. They really think this is going to work. That's the amazing part of it all.

PGB   August 6th, 2008 9:21 am ET

Offshore Drilling: 1% savings
Correct Tire Pressure: 3% savings

Confused   August 6th, 2008 9:20 am ET

HA! Nice and childish! Wake me up when you start discussing the solutions rather than playing the childish games.

Michelle, PA   August 6th, 2008 9:19 am ET

The RNC needs to check out PolitiFact.com and FactCheck.org, among other fact-checking sites readily available to the parts of the public who know how to "watch the internet". What they mock turns out to be – GASP – true. The old man and his third-grade staff need to grow up and do their homework!

PGraber   August 6th, 2008 9:19 am ET

Somebody needs to show Barack Hussein Obama how to use his. I'm sure he's never tested tires in his life.

bill for barack   August 6th, 2008 9:19 am ET

Will Obama's people give filp-flops to McLiar's press corps then ?

v.a.   August 6th, 2008 9:19 am ET

oh my gosh the mcsleeze campaign is so stupid. they waste their time with these gimmicks. way a spend your constituents hard earned contributions making TIRE GAUGES. yeah, that's really gonna help out the struggling americans who you're supposedly the maverick of.

this campaign is so pathetic.

Tired of W, OH   August 6th, 2008 9:19 am ET

God, they're childish. And ignorant.

PS from Tennessee   August 6th, 2008 9:19 am ET

How desperate is the RNC. Barack Obama is going to blow McShame right out of the water on Election Day.

Rick   August 6th, 2008 9:19 am ET

Is Obama really this clueless? If all Americans properly inflated their tires then it would save ALL of the oil equal to offshore drilling?

May god help us if this man is elected. PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN. Bah nm....its just a teleprompter anyway.

McCain 08

An American   August 6th, 2008 9:18 am ET

Wow, the Republicans really DO take pride in their ignorance

Walter   August 6th, 2008 9:18 am ET

The campaign being waged by John McCain would make Karl Rove blush.

Not because Rove has a conscience, but because he abhors stupidity as much as the next person.

arc, Lugano CH   August 6th, 2008 9:18 am ET

At a time when the future of the nation is so much in peril domestically and globally, the RCN and gloomy Hillary Supporters have this to fall on?

God Bless America

Nikki, Florida   August 6th, 2008 9:18 am ET

Pumping up your tires and driving slower will save gas...I'm still not sure why this is a laughing matter? I thought it was common sense – I was taught it at the age of 16.

Rob   August 6th, 2008 9:18 am ET

HAHA... too funny...

Republican for Obama   August 6th, 2008 9:17 am ET

I think this is going to backfire on McCain pretty bad. These childish pranks that serve to show their immaturity are not what I am looking for in a leader. But cheer up McCain when I was in Middle School I wasn't very good at math either, with a little effort you can add up the numbers too and see that Obama is right.

coopa   August 6th, 2008 9:16 am ET

The RNC should be ashamed of itself. McCain was a great politician until Rove and the RNC took over the campaign for the general election. People want truth not ignorance...

brobama dot org

is a cool site more and more people are visiting to check out a different type of election coverage. Obama just needs to keep his campaign clean and it'll be smooth sailing....

donovansbrain   August 6th, 2008 9:16 am ET

I think McCain is making a serious mistake here, but I doubt he or his top advisers have driven a car or pumped a tank of gas in decades. Tire pressure is important, and Obama is correct. But don't take my word, ask Paris Hilton.

A Nightingale Sings in Berkley Square   August 6th, 2008 9:15 am ET

Proper tire inflation is so uncool. My tires say to inflate to 41 psi, but I only inflate to 20 psi because I'm awesome.
