Bill Clinton to speak at Democratic convention

Bill Clinton will speak at the Democratic convention later this month.
Bill Clinton will speak at the Democratic convention later this month.

(CNN) — Multiple sources tell CNN that former President Bill Clinton will have a speaking role at the Democratic Convention, scheduled to take place in Denver later this month.

The sources say he will speak Wednesday night, the night of the vice presidential nominee’s speech. Barack Obama will officially become the presidential nominee the next night.

Candy Crowley also reports Obama and Bill Clinton spoke today.

News of the former president's role leaked out as reports of tension between the Clinton and Obama camps over fundraising and convention planning issues, and the release of a YouTube clip showing Clinton telling supporters they should develop some sort of “strategy” to make sure their positions were represented at the Denver convention.

Obama said Thursday that the controversy over whether the New York senator's delegates would be able to vote for her at the Democratic convention was a media creation.

“There hasn't been controversy other than what you guys are projecting right now,” he told reporters. Obama described conversations between the two campaigns over convention planning as “seamless.” “It has not been a problem,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Hillary Clinton did not offer a clear answer when asked in a Web chat whether she might ask that her name be submitted for the presidential nomination when the Democratic Party meets in Denver at the end of the month.

“I know that there have been a lot of questions on this subject. Senator [Barack] Obama and I share the goal of ensuring that the voices of everyone who participated in this historic process are respected,” she wrote. “I want to assure everyone we are working together with Senator Obama’s campaign and the DNC, and I am confident we will have a successful and unified Convention in Denver.”

Asked later in the day whether he would be content if Clinton’s name were placed into nomination at the convention, Obama responded “I didn't say that. I said they are working it out, guys.”

Hillary Clinton will campaign for Obama Friday in Nevada.

Bill needs to get over it and stop doing damage to this campaign. Bill knows that no one thinks he is a racist, but Bill did use race as part of a political calculation in the same way that Republicans do sometimes. I don't believe that most Republicans are racist either, but it is a fact that they have used race in political calculations. Bill got called on it and is upset about it.

He made a calculation and in fact it almost worked. He threw black folk under the bus in hopes of garnering larger white support, plain an simple, pure mathematics. He figured that once the dust cleared and Hillary had the nomination, the black folk would just fall back in line behind Hillary. He could smooth it over after the nomination process. To me, pure political calculation, not racism.

What Bill should be upset about is the poor organization and execution that was exhibited in the primary, by Hillary's team. That is where they truly lost the nomination. It was not race or gender, poor organization, poor execution, period. Face it, Obama had a better team and these things are won by teams, not individuals. Hillary's team was amateurish,.....actually incompetent.

Bill will talk about the good ole days when he and Moncia wrestled in the Oval Office while Hillary slept upstairs in the family residence.

If Bill Clinton is speaking before the Vice President announcement, I can't fathom it would not be Hillary.
Unless of course, Bill spends his entire speech justifying why Obama should pick someone else...

Hillary is his VP. What other explanation is there?

I guess PUMA will have their day!

AS I WAS SAYING. THE OBAMA CAMP IS GIVING THE CLINTONS HILLARY AND BILL JUST ABOUT AS LITTLE A TOKEN AS THEY CAN THROW. HAVING BOTH HILLARY AND BILL SPEAK AT THE CONVENTION WITH A BIT OF MEDIA ATTENTION TO PACIFY
    HILLARY'S ANGRY SUPPORTERS.

Why on earth would Hillary ask for her name to be submitted for the presidential nomination when the Democratic Party meets in Denver at the end of the month? Submit her name for what? In my mind, this is ridiculous. What purpose would that support? The nominee has been chosen and regardless of the decision the DNC made regarding Florida and Michigan voters, it won't change Hillary's present status. I understand why the voters of both States are upset. But it is time now for them to support their party as HIllary is doing and accept the outcome for the good of all Democrats and as I see it, all Americans. As God Forbid another Republican is ever elected again to the White House! If Bill and Hill can support Obama for the common cause than so should Hillary Supporters. If they supported her then and want her name submitted why don't they have enough loyalty and trust in her to follow her lead now?

AND THE FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN DELEGATES SO THEY CAN GO HOME AFTER THE CONVENTION AND SAY THE OBAMA CAMP GAVE THEM WHAT THEY WANTED. IT IS VERY MUCH TOO LATE AND TOO LITTLE. THIS IS INTOLERABLE FOR HILLARY'S SUPPORTERS AND NO WONDER THEY WANT TO MARCH AND EXPRESS THEIR DISSATISFACTIO WITH THE OBAMA CAMP..
TAKE NOTE HOWEVER, THE MIDWEST STATES PLUS FLORIDA AND NEVADA ARE PLACES WHERE HILLARY WON HANDILY AND THEY ARE NOT FICKLE VOTERS. THEY WILL HAVE HILLARY ON THE TICKET OR THEY SEE OBAMA GO DOWN IN DEFEAT

WE HAVE SEEN THE ELITIST IN OBAMA . BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE. THE GOP IS LONG ON SCRUTINIZING THE REAL OBAMA.
WHO IS THE REAL OBAMA WHO JUST 4 YEARS AGO WAS A STATE LEGISLATOR WITH HARDLY ENY EXPERIENCE IN NATIONAL POLITICS, LET ALONE ECONOMICS AND FOREIGN POLICY.
THAT IS WHY OBAMA'S CAMPAIGN IS LOSING GROUND. HE IS NOT BREAKING AWAY FROM MCCAIN..ADD TO THAT THE SPATE OR RACIAL POLITICS IN CONGRESSIONAL POLITICS AND OBAMA HAS A REAL PROBLEM WITH THE AMERICAN ELECTORATE.
HIS RHETORIC HAS BECOME STALE. AND HE REALLY CANNOT COMMUNICATE VERY WELL WITHOUT A TELEPROMPTER.
THE GOP WILL YET HAVE MORE TO THROW AT OBAMA.

Finally, Obama is beginning to come to his senses.

If there is one thing that the current polling data shows, it's that Obama needs the Clintons to be sure of victory.

If he has the stones to choose Hillary for VP, the Republicans could fold their tents and skip the whole thing.

MORE? THE CONGRESSIONAL RACE IN WESTERN TENESSEE BETWEEN A JEWISH MAN AND AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMAN
HAD OBAMA RUSHING TO STOP THE BLOOD LETTING THAT THE WOMAN STARTED WHEN SHE DOUSED THE JEWISH CONGRESSMAN WITH THE MOST HATED RACIAL SLUR IN TODAYS AMERICA. SHE COMPARED THE JEWISH MAN TO A KU KLUX KLAN MAN , A FORMER CONFEDERATE GENERAL. WITH THE PICTURE OF A HOODED KLANS MAN AND A CROSS .
THE CONGRESSMAN WAS DUMFOUNDED. HE WAS AFTER ALL ELECTED BY A MAJORITY OF AFRICAN AMERICANS IN HIS DISTRICT.

  23. Watch your back Barack!!

I pray Barak will watch his back when it comes to the Clintons. They are so politically hungry I believe they would do anything to upstage Obama and sabataging the convention would not even phase them! If they continue to divide the party as they are now, the Dems will NEVER win another election.. this is the golden hour folks vote wisely or the Republicans will put a strangle hold on the country and choke it to death. The United States cannot afford another "Bush" term it is in dire straights now.. there is not anytime for division and hatred .
God Bless and protect Obama and family..

Sorry Hillary haters, it appears you haven't seen the end of her.
Hillary is the VP. Hillary is the VP.
I am sure y'all will get over it... I know Bill hasn't and would not speak before the VP announcement if Hillary was not the VP!!!!
It would not make sense to disappoint Clinton supporters like that!

Clintons in the spotlight==four years more> if not, 16????
And if so, that would leave Barack and Michelle with just 8?

Now that doesn't seem fair/ he was the one who won the primary!
Hillary is the VP. Hillary is the VP!

    lol!
