Congressman wants to bring up “Paris Hilton plan”

Rep. Michael Burgess things the 'Paris Hilton plan' for energy should be considered.

Rep. Michael Burgess things the 'Paris Hilton plan' for energy should be considered.

CAPITOL HILL (CNN) - The lines between celebrity and politician blurred into a haze Thursday at a Republican news conference, as one congressman began pushing Paris Hilton's “plan” on energy.

"Let's bring up the Paris Hilton plan," goaded Rep. Michael Burgess, R-Texas.

Burgess and his fellow Republicans are in day five energy speeches on the House floor, despite the fact that the chamber is closed for August recess. They're trying to pressure House Speaker Nancy Pelosi into holding a vote on offshore oil drilling.

As they plan for another week of House protest, those Republicans have found an unlikely ally and publicity magnet in Hilton. The model and actress launched a parody campaign commercial earlier this week, suggesting a hybrid of energy plans from presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain

"We can do limited offshore drilling, with strict environmental oversight," the heiress suggested in an animal print bathing suit, "while creating tax incentives to get Detroit making hybrid and electric cars."

"Even Paris Hilton had an energy plan that she's talking about," said Burgess, seizing a chance to make Democrats look lackluster on the issue.

The Texas congressman tried to put Hilton in the Republican camp, claiming her words mirrored current GOP legislation known as the "No More Excuses Energy Act". But, while that proposal does allow offshore drilling, a congressional summary shows it does not contain tax credits to encourage new automobile technology.

And that keeps Hilton, strangely, in the centrist chair on energy. A centrist, poolside lounge chair

You've got to be kidding!! Congress can't think of anything useful on their own so they're using Paris Hilton's ideas?! Why do they get paid again?

PUMA – why couldn't shrillary manage her debt? Too bad you can't blame that on Barack. She poorly managed her finances and she poorly managed her campaign and yet you demented people want her to manage your country?? Incredible? BTW remember Barack has 18 million voters too, plus some.

The Republicans discussing Paris" energy plan to an almost empty chamber. They would have been more effective if they had taken the break and returned with clear thinking THIS IS A WASTE.

If politicians would listen to the people they represent instead of pundits and supporters with hidded and selfish agendas, thier plans would make sence for most of us.

The democrats' energy plan is to firmly dig their heels into the sand and refuse to budge ("Forget that we have an energy crisis. Don't confuse the issue with facts!"). Instead they are promoting flowering fantasy solutions like wind power and unicorns. How about coming back with that proposal after you already have a viable technology in hand? Or are we all supposed to wear little beanies with propellers on our heads to generate our personal energy? Maybe we could all pedal stationary bicycles with little generators hooked up to power our PCs at work? Or we could wish upon a star. Too bad real life is getting in the way and we have an actual problem on our hands. Because the democrats refuse to deal with it except in their imaginations. AND THAT AIN'T WORKING!

Drilling off shore will not influence prices and that is a fact and I don't know why the news medias don't report this to the public.

Big oil companies make their profits through supply and demand the same as OPEC does therefore to increase the price of oil per barrel they simply decrease supply.

Is anyone dumb enough to believe that big oil companies will reduce the price of a barrel of oil to the American public simply because they have the supply. These companies are not charities and only interested in profit not increasing supply to ease the gas prices for the public.

Who is the GOP trying to fool? They want us to believe that drilling is going to reduce gas prices but in actuality, prices will surge. They will have to drill for years before they it black gold. Furthermore, our foreign affiliates will hike up their prices so if the US does break free from their dependence, they the (FA's) would have made a significant profit prior to doing so. They are in chamber trying to drum up votes for McSame. Because people who don't read between the lines will think that the Dems aren't doing anything to combat the soaring gas prices. All the Dems are saying is add the tax provision in your bill that would allow for building of hybrid cars and also bring back jobs to Detroit. What do you people want? Lower gas prices but yet you don't have a job so you can't pay for it anyway? Or do you want a job with sufficient wage as well as lower prices at the pump? WAKE UP, PEOPLE!

No–Pelosi is over the edge-as usual you have it backwards-
70% of the electorate wants offshore drilling as part of our energy plan and Pelosi is out pushing her book–
She is the example-THat's why there is such a negative look at woman and minorities in buisness-It's unfair but look at the examples we set–

This was the Gang of 10 plan that Obama said is a good starting place for a compromise. Paris Hilton repeats it, and now it is hers?

The Republcans AND Democrats already stated this plan. What's wrong with you people?
