Actually McCain has one of the best records for compromise.
The flip flop you are talking about is actually a compromise. When he was opposed to drilling gas was about $2 per gallon. Obama didn't compromise he flipped. The only thing that changed during him going from no drilling to drilling was he dropped 10 points in the polls and Americans were 70% in favor of drilling.

Obama's voting record shows he has voted against big oil many times, while John McCain has not actually voted on any energy bill in two years and sided with oil frequently prior to that (that is, when he did actually take the effort to vote).

The thing you dumbbeats can't get into your thick skull is the fact that the oil we drill locally will go into the world bank and into the global market where we will be competing with countries like China whose demand has surged over 40 % in the last 5 years alone. What this means is that it will have little to zero impact on our current predicament. Alternative engery is the way to go. I keep hearing this "68 million acres not being drilled" being tossed around by liberals as the reason to refuse to open up off-shore drilling. As a thinking person, I have to ask this question: "what reason is given by the companies holding the leases (for which they pay quite a bit of money) for not drilling and making even more money off the oil they would get?"

Could it possibly be because the lands that are leased are low quality/low quantity and not worth the effort at this point in time? These 68 million acres may someday be cost effective – when the price of oil is high enough to justify the investment that is required to extract it.

The sad thing is that the media is not doing it's job of showing BOTH sides of this story. Thank goodness we have the ability to do our own research to be informed on issues like this where the liberals (or conservatives) who control the information being broadcast are cherry-picking what to share.
