Detroit mayor ordered jailed after unauthorized trip to Canada

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick apologized but a federal judge ordered him jailed for violating the terms of his bond.
Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick apologized but a federal judge ordered him jailed for violating the terms of his bond.

(CNN) - A judge Thursday ordered Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick jailed after determining he violated terms of his bond by taking an unauthorized trip to Canada last month.

Kilpatrick, who is facing felony charges of perjury, obstruction of justice and misconduct of office, has been free on $75,000 bond. He has been snarled in a public scandal since January, when the Detroit Free Press reported that he had exchanged romantic text messages with his former chief of staff, Christine Beatty, indicating the two were involved in an affair. He and
Beatty, testifying last fall in a whistle-blower trial, had denied they had been having an affair.

Kilpatrick attorney Jim Parkman said an immediate appeal is planned. He noted that Kilpatrick's trip "wasn't a personal trip over there to go to Caesar's Palace and play" but a trip on Detroit business.

"He believes it was the right thing to do, and on the spur of the moment, he just went," Parkman told reporters.

so according to some of the vile racist comments connecting this man and his actions to Obama, logic would have it Sen. McCain IS guilty of the Keating 5 debacle and various other corruptions just like his supporter the Alaskan Senator? is that right...may be we should then throw John McCain in jail...is this the race baiting some of you were talking about or is it the Black man playing the victim oh wait i got it it is the white guilt thing....you people are disgusting i hope you in NO way or form consider your selves Christians! if Obama is accountable for every ill a Black politician commits the SAME applies for McCain/Bush/Chaney...and the rest of your historical evils...am i following YOUR "logic" right?

Do you know why CNN has this article here when everything else is about the presidential campaign?

    I know you do.

CNN, do you have a racist republican operative in your midst? Who's idea was it to push this article into the ticker? Alex Mooney perhaps?

    Betcha you don't post this.

Poor people that still believe in politicians. There all after your goods and they will get them. McCain or Obama all the same 10% of the American people own the rest wake up. The winners are the rich only the rich. As for Don there are not more scandals in the black community as the white community just more white journalists to point them out.

    Now,
Let us consider other politicians that lie, steal, and cheat. Are we ready to prosecute them to the full extent of the law also???
Probably not, especially since most politicians are career politicians and tell lies from the beginning to the end of their time in office.
A lot of people are losing confidence in politics and politicians, due to these type of situations.

Oh we know good and well why a few want to reach to make a connection here.

It's fairly shameful, very weak logic, and stupid. Especially when those who level the charge will no doubt announce they are voting for a member of the Keating Five who promises to continue the policies that are wrecking our nation.

A censored candidate or someone who was completely uninvolved in wrong doing?

Maybe he went to Caesar's Palace in Windsor, Ontario Canada.

Maybe Parkman gave us a hint as to where the Mayor visited in Canada!

Why is it people like you are always trying to condemn an entire race of people for the actions of a few. McCain screwed around on his wife and now you're trying to make him president.

I'll tell you why these people are blogging about Obama on an article that's totally not about Obama. These people are plants. They are repugs trying to sway public opinion any way they can. I heard that the McCain Campaign is paying people to get their talking points out online. He is paying bloggers to blog about him.
I am starting to believe that alot of these people are fake. When ever they criticize Obama they do so with little to no substance. They too are having a difficult time portraying Obama in a negative light. So they just make stuff up or they say I'M VOTING FOR MCCAIN...because Hillary lost or something.

I dont understand why the bloggers are involving Sen.Obama with the problems of the Mayor of Detroit. The people of Detroit voted for Kwame.

I agree that some of his actions are questionable, but it has nothing to do with Sen. Obama.

I'm a black man and regardless of this man's ethnicity agree that he deserves what he is getting. He's a major screw up and I'm not sure how or why Detroit allowed him to represent their city as mayor.

But all of you posters trying to link this individual, independent, MAN to Obama as a means of mud slinging are pathetic and ignorant. How would you like it if I compared every older white man on here to Bush as a means of pointing out how unfit for a leadership position you are? Chew on that.

Wow, Clinton gets impeached over a sex act. Kilpatrick being charged with a felony for lieing about a sex act.

Bush, commits 40 seperate impeachable offenses against the Constitution and nothing.

Dems, I agree go back to Congress. Not for the charade of the up/down vote the Republicans threw together on "their" energy plan,

But how about coming through with your promises

IMPEACH BUSH AND CHENEY AND SEND ROVE TO JAIL!

At a time when Detroit is loosing jobs, can't balance its budget, its houseing market is one of the worst among a nation with a generally poor housing market and 10/s of thousands of dollars are being used to bring a man to trial because he may have lied about having sex wtih a co-worker.

This is a priority of the local government???

I don't approve of what Kilpatrick is doing at all, but I don't like the tone of this discussion. Just because Kilpatrick is black and an Obama supporter does not mean that Obama is just like him or that they have anything in common. If that's the case, let's tie Bush and McCain, two people who actually have been "buddies", even closer together.
