(CNN) - The September issue of Essence magazine features an interview with Sen. Barack Obama and his family inside their Chicago home.

Essence editor-in-chief Angela Burt-Murray said it took a year for the magazine to gain access to the Obama's Illinois home for an intimate interview with the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, his wife, Michelle, and their daughters, Sasha and Malia.

Burt-Murray talked Thursday with CNN "American Morning" anchor Kiran Chetry about the interview and the Obama family.

Thanks for sharing Vig, we'll take that into consideration–NOT.

Concerned Citizen   August 7th, 2008 6:53 pm ET

Is it me or are the people who have the severe hatred for Obama so seemingly obsessed with him at the same time? They can't stop talking about him. I'm no fan of McCain but I don't go around looking for what he has done, says, etc. Frankly, I find him boring and uninspiring, too much Bush-like. I disagree with the man but I respect him and his views.

Grow A Brain   August 7th, 2008 6:53 pm ET

In response to "Never Obama".

Blacks are voting overwhelmingly for Barack because the Clintons played the "RACE CARD". End of that story.

When Bill Clinton ran he got 82% of the black vote, nobody complained then or said anything about racism. When Dukakis ran, he got 89% of the black vote, not a word from anyone. The minute a black man runs and gets 90%, you cry foul.

Grow a brain, you idiot.

Esscence? Duh.

Jean, MS   August 7th, 2008 6:48 pm ET

Bill Clinton will be jealous of that too. But you could "make an argument" that says he won't.

Shotta Nic   August 7th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

Aaaaahh, the fresh smell of ignorance and racism on this board.

Everybody, lets take a deep breath of it.

Ofcourse if a black magazine focused on the advancement of minorities interviews Obama, some people will have problems with it.

Hey, how about you haters stop hating on the next President of the US (it probably burns when you think of a black man as president, huh?)

Amanda   August 7th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

Thanks Mike TX for all the stereotypes–but we're moving on, buh-bye.

Great, I can't wait to buy a copy.

"I can see clearly now the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me down
It's gonna be a bright bright bright bright Obama day
It's gonna be a bright bright bright bright Obama day"

Obama is NOT a model for anybody. He's a pollyanna prima donna full of himself and offers no substantive agenda that isn't piggbacking off of someone else's. He's been made to be something he is not. He's just a third rate politician.

Goodie   August 7th, 2008 6:27 pm ET

Yes and of course he is a very good model for my kids, your kids and any other kid(s) . Go ahead and leave with it . It is what it is. Simply the truth and the fact. GO BAMA !!!

Rob in Texas   August 7th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

According to People magazine, he doesn't even buy his (little) kids Christmas or birthday presents .... model father, that Obama

Rob in Texas   August 7th, 2008 6:25 pm ET

A model for kids ... because he's pretty childish himself.

Mike   August 7th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

The Obamas are a fine example of an American family. They do America proud.

Never Again CNN   August 7th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

These racists spread the hate filled lies and republican propaganda simply because he's black (I'm not saying that republicans are racists, but that the racist help spread their proppaganda). Instead of looking at a strong connected family, which shows up the philandering (that's cheating to you republicans) McCain with his lack of respect for women, wanting to enter his wife in a biker rally beauty contest. If you think about the cmparison of family values between the candidates, how could you make some of these comments. Well I guess you racists don't think much, just spout you garbage. No wonder you fit in so well with the republicans.

jason, tx   August 7th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

I agree. He's an excellent role model. All the bigots who have posted, please keep your ignorant ideas to yourselves.

Gary of El Centro, Ca   August 7th, 2008 5:53 pm ET

A beautiful American family indeed. I pray for their safety every day......there are a lot of "kooks" out there that are bothered by their rise to the top.

NVH   August 7th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

hey neverobama like the screaming idiots still supporting hillary want her to win simply because she is a woman it doesn't matter that she lied and mismanaged her campaign they want her to be the first woman president by any means necc.

gary   August 7th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

I WOULDN'T WANT MY KIDS ENVOLVED WITH HIS PROGRAM. HE IS SUCH A CON MAN AND RACIST. HE HAS TOOK US BACK 100YRS. OR MORE WITH RACIST,DIVISION AND HATE. HOW DO YOU LIKE HIS CHANGES. HE GREAT AT TURNING ALL THE NEGATIVE AROUND AGAINST SOMEONE ELSE. IF IT DONT BENIFIT HIM HE WILL SLAM EVERYONE AND PLAY THE RACE CARD. THATS WHAT AMERICA WANTS TO LEAD OUR COUNTRY. COME BACK HRC . AMERICA GETS WHAT THEY ASK FOR.

Genie, New Mexico   August 7th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

Obama is a model if you want to teach your kids to be arrogant, elitist and live in an ivory tower.

St. Petersburg, Florida   August 7th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

And just some FYI NEVEROBAMA.. Essence magazine is literature for anyone who wishes to read it....just the same as Rolling Stone..

Marc   August 7th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

I thought he wasn't going to subject his family to more of these interviews. Another flip-flop. Besides, if I were him, I wouldn't be bragging about the way I raised my family by taking them to an anti-American, racist church.

THE WORLD IS WATCHING   August 7th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

Hey Mike in Texas........

Stop being sooooooooooo afraid of people not like yourself.........

Your soooooo stupid you'd rather your children die in a war to satisfy someone elses greed than vote for someone who actually care for your studid aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

You'd rather believe someone's love of country just just because he wears a flagpin,,,,,, while someone who looks just like you can't even see you.

Its funny your so caught up in statements regarding THE church that teaches hate.....what about this freakin country.......

THE BIGGEST TEACHER OF THEM ALL...........

GET over yourself..........the reason you can't see is because you refuse to walk in a BLACK MANS shoes......but that OK

VOTE IN MCCAIN ..............LET VOTING FOR YOUR OWN KIND SHOW YOU JUST HOW MUCH HE CARES ABOUT OUR POOR AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

The OBAMA'S WILL BE FINE AFTER ELECTION 08 WILL you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AMERICANS.......SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SAD

Mark Webb   August 7th, 2008 5:37 pm ET

Beauty   August 7th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

This man, love him or hate him, win or loose, will leave an admirable legacy in American politics that future politicians will emulate in years to come. It is not all about winning an election, it is about hard work, humility, integrity and sincerity. I hope he will win this election but even if he doesn't, he has changed American history for good. For that, I thank God.

St. Petersburg, Florida   August 7th, 2008 5:28 pm ET

To NEVEROBAMA

"Figures it's a Black people magazine. We all know 90% of African Americans want him to win. They want him to win not on his qualifications but on the point of being the first black President. Get over yourselves. Enough with baises racisim! African Americans love this smuck!"

Its these kinds of negative comments from "people like you" who amount to nothing.. I am my own person, can think for myself and do not follow a pack despite what some others want to believe.. I know you want to think really bad that all "black people" are monolithic individuals and will only vote for Barack because he is African American and not based on issues.. Kinda like saying all white people will vote for Mccain because he is white.. huh? So tell me, what do you say when you see African Americans supporting John McCain? Get over yourself and grow some brains!!

seeing the truth   August 7th, 2008 5:26 pm ET

no racial undertone there...question how many of the white vote has every presidential candidate in the past gotten? i am sooo happy that Obama has the Votes of so many diverse people in this country..Black, White, Latino, Asian and all others...pity McCain just gets the buffalo chip and wrinkly old white hair vote, i guess Obama really more than McCain reflects the true face of AMERICA!

Griff   August 7th, 2008 5:22 pm ET

Don't you just love these people???? They always refer to their God.... So Empty Headed...

Anonymous   August 7th, 2008 5:13 pm ET

Obama the celebrity! Pimping out the family...

bridgette   August 7th, 2008 5:08 pm ET

If black people are racist for voting for Obama what were we when Clinton got the same amount of the black vote that Obama got? Where we racisist then because we voted for this white man from Arkansas. What kind of racisim would that be. I can guarantee you that atleast 90% of the people who vote for McCain will look like him. Will that make them racist as well. I think that whole argument on both sides is just silly.

Ernie in LA   August 7th, 2008 5:01 pm ET

Yes, all of you mommies and daddies and kids go join the obama's hate filled church and you should not be buying your children any Christmas or Birthday presents.

Willow, from Iowa   August 7th, 2008 4:56 pm ET

Of course, he is a good role model. He's a solidly married man, raising two children, none of the scandal known in politics, takes care of his family, exercises and eats healthy (probably when he's not campaigning), and I think he would be an excellent role model. His wife is a beautiful woman, with a solid education, career woman, strong and independent. I think both of them are excellent role models for our country.

Gorbashov - Long Beach, Ca.   August 7th, 2008 4:44 pm ET

Obama a true leader.....................................

unlike

McShame who left his first wife to be set with beer for the rest of his short life!

GOBAMA

Mike, TX   August 7th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Yes. I think everyone should take their children to a racist and hate-filled church. I think everyone should teach their children that its ok to kill a baby if its born because of a failed abortion. I think everyone should teach their children that it's ok to stereotype a woman. I think everyone should teach their children that individual rights must take second-place to the rights of the state.

Yes, Obama is a good model indeed.

Independent-Latina-for-OBAMA   August 7th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

Yes, I agree. Sen. Obama came for a background that could have led him to jail rather than Harvard. He made choices that got him to where he is today.

Sen. Obama is a brilliant example that the AMERICAN DREAM IS STILL ALIVE AND WELL!

Of course, the hate-fear-war-and-holier-than-thou-mongers will do anything to derail a good man.

But I believe that history will prove all the nay sayers wrong.

HOW CAN ANYONE ELECT A MAN (MCCAIN) WHO JOKES AND SINGS "BOMB..........BOMB..........BOMB IRAN"?! INSANE.

Shari, NY   August 7th, 2008 4:21 pm ET

Sen. Obama and his wife are equally yoked.

Whether or not he becomes the chosen one to pick up the pieces left behind by this current administration, he has done well. He does not fit the stereotypical profile of an African American male that some have embedded in their craniums. Instead, with proper upbringing, remarkable family values and unwavering focus, he pursued and achieved an excellent education and commendable political career.

His intelligence, eloquence, ability to exercise restraint, dignity, etc., are attributes which makes him a role model for any young man irrespective of race, creed or socio-economic background. Nobody’s perfect but he comes pretty close. Kudos to you and family and god bless!

Eleanor   August 7th, 2008 4:20 pm ET

Senator Obama has a beautiful family
how anyone can think that they are elitist is beyond me
They both worked hard for where they are today and just finished paying off their loans
compared to Hillary, MCSame, Romney, and some of the other *really elite* they are an an average family
with a little wealth from working hard for what they have acheived in life

NEVEROBAMA   August 7th, 2008 4:18 pm ET

Cafferty   August 7th, 2008 4:12 pm ET

Just because they are black?

Are you kidding me?

That is disgusting!

Chris from NY   August 7th, 2008 4:12 pm ET

While many will like to deny it we his followers know that win, lose or draw God has made him a symbol of sucess for struggling people out there irrespective of your color, creed, religion or political affiliation. No one can come up with any excuse in life on why they can't attempt anything they aimed to achieve in life. The victory is no so much in winning but in the decision and the determination to try harder.
