McCain, Hillary Clinton react to news of Edwards affair

(CNN) - John McCain was tight-lipped Friday afternoon when it came to answering any questions about former U.S. Senator and Democratic hopeful John Edwards's admittance to having an extramarital affair. Edwards acknowledged he had had an affair with a former aide in 2006 but denied being the father of her baby. McCain told reporters "I don't have any comment on that" during a press conference in Rogers, Arkansas.

In Nevada, New York Senator Hillary Clinton said her "thoughts and prayers are with the Edward's family today" when asked if she thought her party would suffer any repercussions because of the scandal. Senator Clinton held an impromptu press conference following a campaign event in Las Vegas for Barack Obama where the statement was made.

McCain should know a thing or two about cheating and leaving his wife.

    he did it also.

Aster a lot of hype, John Edwards added nothing to the Democratic ticket in 2004; he has now expanded upon that lack of achievement by detracting from the Democratic campaign of 2008. This man needs a LONG, LONG time to do penance before he shows his vapid, blow-dried face in public again!

Being that McCain had an affair with Cindy after his first wife had an accident and became wheelchair bound, I can understand why he did not want to comment on it.

I suppose Edwards made a terrible mistake having this affair. But its not the end of the world. There are alot of people out there condemning Edwards and they themselves are doing the same thing.

But I also wonder if there is something out there that we don't know about Obama. Maybe the DNC had better do a thorough check on Obama because you never know if a scandal can suddenly come out about him. That would definitely be a disaster so I think he should be checked out before the republicans find something that could definitely hurt the democrats.

mcCANE changed the subject because he cheated on his first wife. there have been rumors of other affairs also........

like many others have said, edward's affair will hurt mcCANE and help Obama.....Obama should call mcCANE out on it.

McBush can't say anything about the affair Edwards had, that would be like calling the kettle black. All you holier than thou republicans, McBush wasn't divorced when he started an affair with trophy wife. Why isn't what he did in all the papers, why isn't he treated like an adultorer, that's what he is.

McCain did the same thing that Edwards did. He has no place making a single comment on this.

What's the matter McExplain? Don't want the media to turn their attention to you and your turkey necked Barbie Grannie doll there and how you two got together before and after you trashed your injured wife? Hmmmm?? Yeah, you BETTER keep your mouth shut about Edwards cause that would be the pot calling the kettle...

Is this story going to run 5 or 6 times? Must be a ploy to keep off Obama's ridiculous energy un-plan. I hope some sleazy lawyer goes after John Edwards for everything he has just like he did to corporations why he was helping the 'common folk'. What a jerk and a typical hypocrite. Now you know why dems don't run on family values, they don't have ANY values.

Considering what I keep hearing about Senator McCain and his first wife, if he's smart, he'll continue to be "tight-lipped".

I applaud McCain's discretion on this matter. He has firsthand experience that IT"S NO ONE'S BUSINESS. Disclaimer: This does not mean I like McCain.

Matters of this type should better left to woman involved with John and his family as their private affairs, and this should be the case despite the admission by John of the extramarital affairs with that woman involved.

Jejussssssss, how many stories can there be on this? when will the gardener give his account? You would think this guy started an uneccesary war or something. This is between Edwards and his family. If Elizabeth wants to kick him in his acorns, I'm all for it.

As long as Edwards is not running for or holding any public office, this is truly none of our business. My best wishes to the Edwards' family!
