(CNN) - John McCain was tight-lipped Friday afternoon when it came to answering any questions about former U.S. Senator and Democratic hopeful John Edwards's admittance to having an extramarital affair. Edwards acknowledged he had had an affair with a former aide in 2006 but denied being the father of her baby. McCain told reporters "I don't have any comment on that" during a press conference in Rogers, Arkansas.
In Nevada, New York Senator Hillary Clinton said her "thoughts and prayers are with the Edward's family today" when asked if she thought her party would suffer any repercussions because of the scandal. Senator Clinton held an impromptu press conference following a campaign event in Las Vegas for Barack Obama where the statement was made.

This is nothing but salacious reporting.
Why the heck would DEMOCRATS suffer because of this scandal? It's the Republican nominee - John McCain - who committed adultry, not Barack Obama. No wonder McCain was "tight-lipped" when asked for a comment.
What a ridiculous question to ask Hillary Clinton. A better question for McCain would be, "Do you think this scandal will remind voters of the adultry you comitted with your current wife, Cindy, when you were still married to and living with your wheelchair-bound first wife?"
To you, Elizabeth and John and Family of the Edwards, I and my many friends around our nation honor you and share our prayers and many good wishes. You have not changed. You have grown in actual and sanctifying grace! You have given to all of us how to be truthful in our dishonest lives and often in our political nation. You have asked us, all Americans to walk in the steps & lives of Integrity! We have read the lives of Abraham, David, Solomon and many of the great Spiritual Leaders who have told their stories of begging the Father's (Yahweh's)forgiveness for their transgressions of unfaithfulness. Not one of us is without transgression. John, you have honored Elizabeth and begged her forgiveness. You have honored your children. You are Blessed, John. You are Forgiven. May America (Republican and Democrat) forgive and forgettenL God bless you, John. Dios te bendiga! Tu Amigo y Compadre! Lorenzo
Has Barack Obama denied having an affair with Larry Sinclair?
who cares. mccain had an affair too.
Big deal..
John McCain was not tight lipped...he turned as white as his comb over...and RAN from the question like it was an energy bill that was against Big Oil....hahahahahaha
The Democrats dodged a bullet on this one. Waited until BO was safely tucked away in Hawaii and the Olympics were taking up most people's Friday evening. I imagine BO and Company told Edwards to "get it done" tonight.
It does make one wonder about the Democrats – they have a penchant for looking the other way at critical moments.
What else don't we know yet? And about whom?
Makes McCain look pretty good.
I think , no I know the United States and the world for that matter need to start thinking about other things which have nothing to do with the personal life of a single person or any family. Mr. Edwards should not have to tell the world of his family problems and should not be judged on anyting but the knowledge he has to make the world better and the United States of America work to bring it's government closer to taking care of all of its people. Yes, I would vote for him again and again. No, I would not ask him to tell anyone of his family's problems. I just want to believe our next president will work to bring our country together and stop the unjust world in which we live. Making each person significant and helping them to meet their goal in life is the only way.........................................!!!!!!!!! we should be moving. Think of the energy which could have been used in other directions had the press not even brought this to the worlds attention. If just one person could have been fed with the time and money it took to print and publish all the junk. WoW, The world would prosper.
John Edwards once said that his campaign was about "Standing up for the little people." He did just that and he has reap the rewards for his work.
John Edwards is such a disappointment
Of course Mccain was tight lipped about it. We wouldn't want the press drawing any parallels, would we?
And seriously, Democrats. Can we please stop attempting to pull defeat out of the jaws of victory? Is it so much to ask that everyone just keep it in their pants until the election is over?
Funny you should try to pull Hillary into this, am amazed that the media including CNN are now talking about this in relation to Bill Clinton-Monica scandal. How about the similarities with John McCain? McCain cheated on his first wife while she was sick and its a well documented fact that led to his divorce. Can you also discuss this? McCain always seems to somehow get favors from the media.
If youy should argue that Edwards knew this and yet ran for president, how about McCain? This skeleton does exist in McCain's closet too. What does that make him.
Alos, can you stop running picture of edwards with Obama, am sure there are plenty of Edwards clips that you can ran, unless ofcourse you are trying to create an image in people's heads.
To err is human to forgive is divine. His gentle wife Elizabeth forgave him, he felt sorry for the mistake he committed, so I believe that life has to go on. There are so many temptations in this world.
I'm afraid this isn't the only skeleton in the Democratic closet.
It's unfortunate about John Edwards affair. He should have made this knowledge public a long time ago. What or who is next?
There is also information out that Hillary Clinton has come sort of legal activity in California after the democratic convention. Also, that bill clinton has two biracial boys by women he had relations with when he was Governor of Arkansas. Any comment on these activities?
Now is the time for HRC to fully back Barack Obama, and keep her supporters in check.
When a republican goes down in flames there seems to be a lot of comments.
OK...no hysteria here. I am in the military and am not a Rep or a Dem. Pretty much mainstream. This should have no bearing on the election.
That said, any man who would do that to his wife is not a man. That shows an utter lack of respect to the person he swore too. Breaking your word is the hardest thing to overcome. And to add insult to injury, he did it while she was ooing through a period in her life which, while I cannot even guess or try to imagine how it feels, I know it it is difficult. I have a wife and three daughters. If any of my daughters were married to a man who did this, I would alientate them by saying "leave him" because they would say I didnt understand.
Leave the current politics out of it, but Mr. Edwards should have no input or say in any discussion about our nation's future. I am sure he and others will disagree by citining "this is personal". But see if Mr. Edwards can look anyone in the eye and say he is "for the people", "all about family", "etc". So when he answers a question about drilling for oil, nuclear energy, etc. do you believe his answer. Because if you will screw your wife over like this, then you will screw anyone you can find (no pun intended and no offense to the skank he was shagging)
Scratch Edwards from the VP list...
Of course John McCain was tight lipped; he doesn't want to start a public discussion about his relationship with Cindy, which began as an extramarital affair.
Why does the press protect him? That's something the press should make sure the entire electorate is fully aware of. Yet not a mention of it, even in this article.
Take back this election Hillary!!!
McCain didn't answer because he did the same thing on his ex-wife. He was cheating for almost a year before he divorced his ex-wife with Cindy. Ask Ronald and Nancy Reagan what they thought about McCain. It wasn't positive I guarantee you that.
No wonder McCain has "no comment".
McCain cannot but be tight-lipped. He left his real wife who by the way is still alive...because she was scarred by an accident, and married his mistress cindy.
I wonder how Evangelicals feel about that MAVERICK move!
I am disgusted by the hypocrisy of John Edwards and the Democratic Party.
If this had been a Republican, the press would have smeared the party. Let's see the press give equal; exposure to this disgraceful behavior.
Edwards might have been the Democartic nominee by a whisker. How could Edwards be so arrogant as to run for President with this in his past? It is indicative of the arogance of teh Democrats who are quick to criticize others, liek Senator Craig.
The Democratic Party is in disgrace
What do you expect Hillary to say about a man who messes around with other women? If she complains, it brings up her own mess at home, if she doesn't, she looks like she's complying with the activity, probably because she's used to it. The shame of it all is that we still have to endure her and her husband in the public eye, both thinking they're invaluable to the American people for some strange reason. They all need to go away and leave the rest of us alone.
