Tickets for Obama's convention speech sold out

Obama will accept his party's nomination at Invesco field.

(CNN)– Tickets for Barack Obama’s Democratic National Convention speech at the Invesco Field in Denver sold out within 24 hours, according to campaign officials.

In early July, convention organizers announced the Illinois senator would officially accept the Democratic nomination at the 75,000 seat stadium rather than a 20,000 seat hall.

According to the Colorado Campaign for Change, the application process closed Thursday afternoon after more than 60,000 seats were snatched up.

Due to unprecedented demand, the campaign has created a waitlist for Coloradans hoping to get a chance to attend the August 28 event.

Obama's largest event to date was in Portland, Oregon, in May, where he drew an estimated crowd of approximately 75,000. He has done at least one previous stadium event, a joint appearance with talk show host Oprah Winfrey at Williams-Brice Stadium in South Carolina that drew about 29,000 people.

John F. Kennedy accepted the Democratic nomination for president in 1960 at Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, a 92,500-seat stadium in which an estimated 80,000 people gathered for his speech.

You go Barack! As far as I'm concerned you are the next president. Old Dude McBum will lie and cheat to get to the white house. That shows he has no integrity. Most republicans are respectable but the ones that are running his campaign are bums!

Just another example of the presumptious, cocky, racist we have running for president. We need someone with REAL ideas and REAL abilities – that's why I'm voting for McCain.

Tickets are free, Praetorian. You did have to send an email request with information (i.e. how you are getting to Denver, where you're staying).

I wonder if it's just the CO quota that's sold out, as the website still says you can apply for them, and they're not supposed to get back to anyone until August 12.

Just for the record this is a historic candidacy and it will be historic as far as democratic turnout. Pollsters will need to be re-examined their statistics after this election. McBum will lose by a landslide!

Sold-out? You mean, prepaid seats by the Obama campaign, with tickets handed out to select supporters to ensure that no one hi-jacks his nomination!

For some, Obama is more than a celibrity. For others, he is just a big mouth full of empty air.

I think it is great that tickets have sold out and of course we all knew that it would. People sense a real sincerity in Senator Obama. I know that the people who will be involved in the contest are excited about having a chance to attend as well.

Maybe OBreak will actually have a teleprompter to tell him what to say. Otherwise, he's LOST!!!! The 'Community Organizer' needs to go back to where he came from and fill up the streets of South Chicago for his ice-cream and cake parties. He's CERTAINLY NOT even close to being President of ANY country.

BYE BABY 'BREAK'. Folks in South Chicago are expecting you home tonight.

Join other YOUTH FOR McCAIN IN 08 NOW!!! We can send a REAL message!

I only wish CNN had not closed the comments so soon to the story about Cheney's agreement to speak at the RNC (I guess all the sarcasm was causing a systems meltdown). I wanted the chance to say that I bet the poison, bile and disdain of the 98% of us not in the same income bracket will be flowing like wine on the fine evening.
