A role reversal for McCain, Obama campaigns

While Barack Obama is on vacation, John McCain is hitting the campaign trail.
While Barack Obama is on vacation, John McCain is hitting the campaign trail.

(CNN) - It was a familiar scene the past couple of months: Barack Obama out on the campaign trail during the weekends while his, John McCain, was off the trail.

So call it a role reversal this weekend.

The Democrat’s presumptive presidential nominee is in Hawaii this weekend and all next week. So what’s on his agenda? Here’s what he said upon arrival in Hawaii Friday night: “I’m really looking forward to spending some time with my family, having a chance to see my grandma.”

Obama grew up in Hawaii and his grandmother and other relatives still live there. But while his plan for the week is some R and R, it’s a safe bet this could be sort of a working vacation for him.

Why? Because the Democratic National Convention kicks off in Denver two weeks from Monday, and Obama needs to start thinking about his nomination acceptance speech.

But there’s another reason. Obama has a big thing on his to do list before the start of the convention, and that’s pick a running mate.

McCain, meanwhile, is on the campaign trail all weekend. He’s in Las Vegas Saturday, to address the 87th annual convention of the Disabled American Veterans.

On Sunday, the Senator from Arizona will campaign in Erie, Pennsylvania. He’ll team up with Erie native Tom Ridge. The former Secretary of Homeland Security and former Pennsylvania Governor is considered to be in the running as a candidate as McCain’s running mate.

Asked by reporters Friday night about taking down time, McCain said even when he isn’t on the campaign trail, he’s still working hard on his campaign.

“What we try to do is take a day or two down. But it seems that when I do that, then they fill it up with briefings and prep and issues and meetings. Since our schedule is public. Last Saturday, ok that is a down day. Start out with meetings and it lasts all day long until the evening,” said the Republican’s presumptive presidential nominee.

McCain does not have anything to say even on his add. We know him always crying about media attention and when he has it he talk about Obama. Media putting Obama under microscope and they can not find anything and now all I see McCain TV add for free in all the stations. McCain is follower and Obama is the leader. He had all week to talk about energy and all he said all the above is my plan he never give any $ or brake down on his plan he said “ALL THE ABOVE “he means Obama plans. Please ask him what his plans are about the war he just says we need to win just like a child not just like a leader. Senator Obama is a leader young like Kennedy and Celebrity like Ragan

Typical, Obama is retreating, trying to get out of the media spotlight he so craved originally, for fear that people will see him for what he really is. A typical politician, At least mccain isnt trying to pretend to be something he's not.

Well, McCain takes naps and don't work on the weekends. The "lord " worked for six and rested on the seventh. They both need to take a week off and get it together that way they both are well rested the beginning of the week.

Was just saying to my Obama-supporter 21-year old daughter that Barack needs to take a break from the campaigning and rest. Recent "blurbs" from his speeches indicate he's getting a little weary, and that opens the door for most media outlets to criticize his speaking. Time to shut the door on those who take 5-10 second clips and use them as ammunition.

Who really care about who is ON THE TRAIL..or WHO'S taking the weekend off. Neither one of these guys has a clue as to what it's really going to take to be a functional President. We couldn't have a worst ticket for President if we summoned the devil.

Obama should take the time to fill out some job applications. Maybe
get some experience on what it is like to work for a living before he
keeps giving air head answers to real questions.

Oh, so glad Barry [Obama[ Soetor is looking to mend a ladder back up to his bus, from under it, with his Grandma.

No doubt this IS a working trip for Barry in Hawaii. They have another fake Birth Certificate to work on....or getting another one issued under the name he has been using, instead of what's on his current Birth Certificate that he has not disclosed, of Barry Soetoro, probably because then he would have to admit he was also a citizen of Indonesia, which makes him inelligble to be POTUS, according to Article II of our Constitution, because he does not have allegiance to our country, like Arnie Schwarzenegger, Keenu or George Soros.

Too, I'm sure sis and the rest are trying to figure out which hospital they're going to say he was born in, if was born in Hawaii, being they can't get that straight either.

This sounds like a comedy, but this is the guy the Democrats are putting up as their nominee-I guess with hopes no one will question that he can't even be one, based on laws, let alone his record (lack of) or experience.

You sure a movie wasn't done on this?

McCain and his celebrity honk. The media let McCain air low blow ad and keep quite. How can one Senator calling anathor Senetor Celebrity that show all those people admire Obama as great leader are just ignorant and stupid. This is mocking those voters. If McCain wants to turn his image to known figure, he needs to work hard and not be jeolously of another. Obama didn't seek all these admirations and inspirational skills, he just born to lead and you can't take that away. Politics and Media have become trash, weak, and no higher standards. You do anything to bring other person down with you. This is now called huge political strategy and people do discussions on TV. I have lived all my life to see such Role Model African Men to become figure and push other African American and Africans to work hard to higher archivements, this is what you get from Republicans.

WOW! Obama takes one weekend off and we have a role reversal. What do you call it when you are to old to work on the weekend. Please let the american people know. It's been over three thousand years since any essence of intelligence at the helm. I hope a small amount of it will soon return to the seat of power that will spred over our planet once again.

Time and time again, McCain was on the wrong side of key debates when it mattered most. In addition to his opposition to a federal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., McCain was the deciding vote against overriding President Bush’s veto of the 1990 Civil Rights Act–the first defeat of a major civil rights bill in a quarter of a century. To make matters worse, just last weekend McCain defended the vote by equating it to “quotas,” even though the bill had nothing to do with quotas.

May 2006: McCain voted against an amendment that would provide $20 million to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for health care facilities.
April 2006: McCain was one of only 13 Senators to vote against $430,000,000 for the Department of Veteran Affairs for Medical Services for outpatient care and treatment for veterans.
    1
March 2006: McCain voted against increasing Veterans medical services funding by $1.5 billion in FY 2007 to be paid for by closing corporate tax loopholes.

March 2004: McCain once again voted for abusive tax loopholes over veterans when he voted against creating a reserve fund to allow for an increase in Veterans' medical care by $1.8 billion by eliminating abusive tax loopholes. Jeez, McCain really loves those tax loopholes for corporations, since he voted for them over our veterans' needs.
October 2003: McCain voted to table an amendment by Senator Dodd that called for an additional $322,000,000 for safety equipment for United States forces in Iraq and to reduce the amount provided for reconstruction in Iraq by $322,000,000.

Alas, another captive audience for McCain to piggyback himself onto. The man can't draw his own crowds? Last week it was a Harley rally, where I gather there was some dissent at his presence. This week he was at the Iowa Fair visiting with Freight Train the gigantic swine. We all loved that picture you ran of the snoozing porker by the way. Tomorrow he'll crash the party of some disabled vets in Las Vegas. Will any of them get a chance to ask why he vetoed funding the GI Bill last Spring?

  25. Ex-Republican for Obama

I'm sure that McCain is busy liquidating more jobs from the US, selling out america and driving us into the poor house, just like he did to Ohio, this weekend.

Fortunately Obama is taking time to figure out how he can get us out of the hole that McCain and his criminal friends have dug us into.

Obama '08, we need someone to get our jobs back, and it's obvious McCain is all about giving them to foreign companies.
