A role reversal for McCain, Obama campaigns

While Barack Obama is on vacation, John McCain is hitting the campaign trail.
While Barack Obama is on vacation, John McCain is hitting the campaign trail.

(CNN) - It was a familiar scene the past couple of months: Barack Obama out on the campaign trail during the weekends while his, John McCain, was off the trail.

So call it a role reversal this weekend.

The Democrat’s presumptive presidential nominee is in Hawaii this weekend and all next week. So what’s on his agenda? Here’s what he said upon arrival in Hawaii Friday night: “I’m really looking forward to spending some time with my family, having a chance to see my grandma.”

Obama grew up in Hawaii and his grandmother and other relatives still live there. But while his plan for the week is some R and R, it’s a safe bet this could be sort of a working vacation for him.

Why? Because the Democratic National Convention kicks off in Denver two weeks from Monday, and Obama needs to start thinking about his nomination acceptance speech.

But there’s another reason. Obama has a big thing on his to do list before the start of the convention, and that’s pick a running mate.

McCain, meanwhile, is on the campaign trail all weekend. He’s in Las Vegas Saturday, to address the 87th annual convention of the Disabled American Veterans.

On Sunday, the Senator from Arizona will campaign in Erie, Pennsylvania. He’ll team up with Erie native Tom Ridge. The former Secretary of Homeland Security and former Pennsylvania Governor is considered to be in the running as a candidate as McCain’s running mate.

Asked by reporters Friday night about taking down time, McCain said even when he isn’t on the campaign trail, he’s still working hard on his campaign.

“What we try to do is take a day or two down. But it seems that when I do that, then they fill it up with briefings and prep and issues and meetings. Since our schedule is public. Last Saturday, ok that is a down day. Start out with meetings and it lasts all day long until the evening,” said the Republican’s presumptive presidential nominee.

It's only fair for Obama to give McCain 10 days to have some extra attention on his campaign because he needs the help. People should visit the Sturgis Harley Davidson Motorcycle Rally's website for the video clips that pretty much tell you who you could be voting for. Obama backers won't mind if you to see these clips. They're still fresh, so hold your noses.

I fall off my chair laughing any time I watch McCain mock Obama. McCain does not need to mock or make a joke about Obama to make us laugh; his looks and moves are enough. He walks as if he is carrying a stone on his bottom. ………………..is he?

Why would Obama want to spend time with his grandma? I thought she was a "typical white person" who was a virulent racist?

Would this be the same grandmother that Obama threw under the bus when he labeled her as being a typical white person who is scared of black people?

I would also add that this will probably be the last time he will have some time off between the convention and the election. And if he is elected, it will probably also be the only time for awhile longer than that.

The media was too busy scrutinizing Obama and leaving out other stuff reported by other sources like Inquirer about John Edwards. Now lets see them leave alot about John Mccain while swift boating Obama who went through hell during the primary. where did journalism go?

I just hope the disabled veterans have printed material on McCain's voting record for veteran's vs. Obama's record.

I think they will be shocked and severely p.o.'d when they see how all of McCain's recognition of veterans is all lip service.

McCain is not the veteran's or the active military soldier's friend "my friends".

Why is CNN not calling out John McCain for misleading America on the facts he keeps talking about on Obama. Is it because CNN is married to FOX news. If you know McCain is a liar why now just ask make him prove his so called facts.

I started showing interest in American Politics during guod Clinton era, He entered as a jung man but came out very old. Look at George Bush old and tired beging for somebody to take over the oval office from him. Obama has now more gray hairs than b/4 he started to Campaign. So my question is, what do you think will happen to McCain if he fails to take some days off every week?.

Mr. Obama deserves a vacation/family reunion. He is a smart man and can handle working some on the side too. He is smart, truthful and God will accompany him and his family throughout his stay in Hawaii and the rest of his life!!!

McCain has yet to explain his abysmal voting record for veterans, and especially his opposition to Sen Webb's GI Bill.

    Ratings from vets' groups:

Disabled American Veterans (per centage support of vets) McCain 20% Obama 80%

Iraq and Afgahanistan Veterans of America (overall rating) McCain D Obama B+

Vietnam Veterans of America (votes for/total votes) McCain 9/24 Obama 13/14
