McCain again slams Obama 'celebrity' in new radio address

McCain has pegged Obama as an out-of-touch celeb.
McCain has pegged Obama as an out-of-touch celeb.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – John McCain is using his weekly radio address today to continue to attack his opponent, Barack Obama, as a celebrity.

“The Democratic National Convention is just a couple of weeks away. It was four years ago, at the same gathering, that America heard a fine speech from an Illinois state senator named Barack Obama. He's done pretty well for himself since then. And the smart money in Denver is on another celebrated performance,” says McCain in the recorded address.

“But even the most stirring speeches are easily forgotten when they're short on content. Taking in my opponent's performances is a little like watching a big summer blockbuster, and an hour in realizing that all the best scenes were in the trailer you saw last fall. In the way of running mates, Senator Obama should consider someone with a knack for brevity and directness, to balance the ticket,” adds the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.

The McCain campaign first termed Obama a celebrity in a television campaign commercial over a week ago. Since then it appears to have become a theme with the campaign, showing up in a number of ads.

In the radio address, McCain also criticizes Obama’s energy policies and touting his own, saying “a serious energy plan involves a lot more yeses than nos. And that is why I say yes to drilling, here and now. Yes to 45 more nuclear power plants to provide our country with electricity. Yes to clean coal technology, so that we can create jobs and use America's most abundant resource. Yes to renewable energy sources, so that we can shift away from petroleum over the long term. Yes to a break from the federal gasoline tax, so that our government helps you in a time of need instead of just adding to your costs. In short, yes to all of the above - to a bold plan for achieving energy independence that starts today.”

McCain heads to Las Vegas later today, to address the annual convention of the Disabled Americans Veterans.

poor McCain.... if only people liked him, maybe he could talk about more issues instead of how he wants more attention.

I believe.... and maybe CNN should look into this, I think that McCain gets his support from loyal Republicans that are forced to vote for McCain only because they vote primarily Republican.

    Wake up people!

My overall respect for John McCain has plummeted with each new political ad he approves. His strategy only lends credence to the image of a desperate politician, willing to try anything and everything in order to win the White House. He may have been a war hero – whom we all admired – but what a sad example of a desperate US Senator.

MCcain will say anything to try and down play Obama. He's digging into the Bush playbook and is flinging the mud. MCcain does not stand a chance. All MCcain's best seens had been back in the 80s. He is a 80s has been trying to make a comeback. Old dogs dont do so well except take supporting roles. He will be great in supporting Obama in a Bipartisinship

You know it's funny that the Republican spin machine has turned popularity into a bad thing. People like Obama and his message and so he is popular. That is a good thing, not a bad thing like McCain would like you to believe. Looks like he's had a visit from the green-eyed monster.

Haha, McCain giving Obama advise on campaigning? Maybe he should look at his own first and realize how much of a failure it has been.

McCain's campaign has been nothing but "Yes to anything that gets me elected!" what a joke.

Jealous, Jealous, Jealous is what he is.
This man is not truthful, he is a very low opinion for hard working americans who are going through tough times and he doesn't understand their problem. All he can think about is, how to plant more of his guys with contracts in Iraq

Mr. McCain, if you want the American people to trust you with the most important job we have to offer, stop talking about your opponent and tell us about YOU. What will you bring to the job and what will your priorities be.

Everything else is hot air and meaningless.

He accuses Obama's speeches of being "short on content" but McBush's speeches have ZERO content since all he does is whine about Obama's celebrity. McBush is a ZERO.

Sounds like McCain is a green-eyed monster...........could there be a little jealousy???

It would be ignorant to think you win an election by not having people come out for you. Just doesn't add up. I'm sure the Dems love all the support they are getting despite how McCain tries to label it.

I personally feel it's wonderful to get!

McCain just wait until Barack Obama is elected President. You haven't seen anything yet!

Barack Obama is going to created jobs, turn the housing industry around, quit sending job overseas, lower gas prices, grow the economy and bring our wonderful military home. He will talk with world leaders to bring resolve to conflicts and work around the aisle.

Buckle up MCain – November is coming soon.

Obama's the celeb? Who's hosted SNL before? Who's appeared in movies and television shows, including Wedding Crashers and 24 (check his credits on IMDB)? Who goes golfing with former presidents? Who wears $500 loafers? That's right. McCain '08! He'll stomp a mudhole in our enemies with his fancy Italian dress shoes!

Let me ask you something..Is McCain running for President ..or president of the local stand-up comedians union?
Who writes his lines, anyway..someone from Leno or Letterman?

Everytime he speaks about Obama my mind goes into freeze and I turn off..no matter what the line fo the day is.
I'd rather he speak to me about the problems we're facing keeping the wolves away from the door. wasting money overseas that is badly needed here, letting down our service men, women and families, the disrepair of our infrastructure, the job market, the housing market, the credit crisis.
McCain is right in sating this election should be substance over style..and maybe he should take his own advice...MORE substance and fewer attacks on the popularity, charisma and character of his opponent.

Let's see, an angry old man slams a younger, more vibrant and interesting person?

Maybe Senator McCain can "slam" us with the facts surrounding his meteoric entry to flight school after a mediocre academic perfomance, well ahead of better qualified candidates?

American's eventually will grow tired of this same attack which starts to sound more like a "jealous old man" who doesn't take Obama seriously, then a real candidate with respect for his opponent. What is McCain for? This was the biggest weakness of Hillary Clinton in the primary...she didn't take Obama seriously...and in brushing him off, brushed off his millions of supporters.

You know, I am so sick and tired of John Mccain already. No wonder he doesn't get any airtime. He is such a pathetic person as to his campaign managers and his party. Every speech I've watched is the same ol' same ol' John, You really need to improve you speech and learn better tactics if you want to win this election. You are a standard republican. Kick 'em while their down!
