(CNN) - Sen. John McCain spends the next two days campaigning through Pennsylvania with the state’s former Gov. Tom Ridge at his side.
Anytime McCain appears with someone that might be on his vice presidential shortlist, it stirs up a whole new round of speculation. And as Pennsylvania is a key battleground state, Ridge is getting plenty of attention.
Ridge, a former Homeland Security Secretary, grew up in Erie and begin his political career in the northwest Pennsylvania city where the McCain tour begins.
And if the presumptive Republican nominee needed any reminder of Ridge’s prominence, he’ll get it the moment his plane sets down. The Erie International Airport where McCain lands late Sunday afternoon is also named “Tom Ridge Field” in the hometown politico’s honor.

Ridge would be an excellent pick who acts like an adult.
Ridge may not help him win Pennsylvania.
This guy will not do McB any good. In fact McBush is toast as it is!
This is just silly...
Is this a new CNN article line? "Anytime McCain appears with someone that might be on his vice presidential shortlist, it stirs up a whole new round of speculation." Reading about VP buzz in article after article really drains my energy. Come up with some new material please.
If you have a brain vote McCain if you want to risk
an attack vote Barack.
"grew up in Erie and begin his political career"
Tom Ridge will be hitting the campaign trail with John McCain this week. Who Cares About McAttack.......all the Negative ads turn me off!
.
Tom Ridge?
Whenever Bush had a crisis, he'd send Tom of DHS to the microphone to scare the daylights out of us.
Has Cindy released her tax statements, yet?!
Mr. Ridge is every bit as exciting as McCain....YAWN
They'd make a heck of a pair........
Tom Ridge is one of the experienced and smartest people McCain can choose for VP, and I hope he does, even if it doesn't help him out much in the polls.
Just what the country needs, another grumpy OLD white guy as VP..McCain is looking to the past not the future.. If this country wants to elect McCain go ahead, America will be further divided and will become isolated and we should brace for a civil war if McCain is elected and also WW3.. McCain is Lame!!!
And Obama would be wise to scrap the Homeland Security Department, as we already had a Homeland Security Department, they are called the National Guard, they should NEVER fight on foreign soil. Instead they should be protecting OUR borders.
Common Sense in 2008!!
And ANTI-PUMA!! Stop the PUMAS now before the ruin America!!
Look for Ridge to join a McCain cabinet, but the inside buzz still points to Mitt Romney
Hang on to your political career Tom Boy....unless you want to go
down with McWar
Do we have a Vice President now? Who is it?
Tom Ridge will not be McCain's VP choice.
First, he's pro-choice.
Second, he was too involved in issues surrounded lobbying without registering officially... and
Third: the Enron Scandal:
In 1997, Enron 'd Kenneth Lay called Bush to help Enron break into lucrative Pennsylvania energy markets... Bush duly called the then state governor, Tom Ridge, to pitch for Enron, whose bid duly succeeded.
Ridge was made Secretary of Homeland Security – Bush's new White House office – after 9/11. Bush pursued aggressive deregulation policies preferred by Enron, including legislation to exempts key elements of Enron's energy business from oversight by the federal government – pushed by none other than Senator Phil "Nation of Whiners" Gramm.
Don't forget that the 1992 trading commission was chaired by Wendy Gramm, Gramm's wife, close friend of the Bush family and recipient of $97,350 in political donations from Enron at the time. Once the exemption was accomplished, Mrs Gramm resigned to join the Enron board.
So no, Tom Ridge won't be VP. Too many easily dredged up ethics issues – which would call into daylight McCain's apparent dichotomy between what he SAYS about lobbyists versus the numerous lobbyists involved in his bid for President.
McCain = Bush with white hair
McCain may be a military veteran but he greatly exaggerates his accomplishments. He is no better than the 4200 plus soldiers who have been killed in Iraq and sacrificed their life at the expense of McCain and Bush and their manipulation of facts in order to go to war. At least McCain survived and is able to walk around and tell lies and dirty jokes like he has been doing. He is sick.
The perfect choice! Hopefully Ridge will bring the same gravitas to the VP as he did as Homeland Unsecurity. Can any of us ever forget or appreciate the grand idea of the "color code of security"? I know it made me feel a whole lot safer. He was so dedicated to his position he left after less than 2yrs. Mission Accomplished!! Onward to more nation building, nothing to it. 5yrs, 10yrs, 50yrs, 100yrs, who's counting as long as we are so unconnected it's literally uncomprehensible. Forget protecting our southern flank or any flank for that matter; all that's important is our ipods, malls, 401Ks, and did I mention DENIAL? Rock on "bomb, bomb, bomb–bomb, bomb Iran" man, you are the Man.The only Sen. in memory to vow to not vote for his own bill (remember the buck -the -administration immigration reform bill, kinda doubt it, that was before he began to seriously pander to the right). Straight shooter indeed.
If McCain picks Ridge, another pro-choice candidate or someone who recently changed his or her stance on this issue (Romney), he will be making a monumental error in judgment. Evangelicals and social conservatives simply will not accept a pro-choice VP or anyone who has not been consistently pro-life especially considering their current lack of enthusiasm for McCain.
McCain / Huckabee '08
Ridge has as many wrinkles as McWar.....what a choice....DUH
Why would anyone in their RIGHT MIND vote for McCain and the politics of yester-year??
No matter who McCain would pick as VP does not make any difference,Obama is going to win McCain in November. That's the truth!
Obama '08.
***************VOTE Democrat******************
Obama loses Pennsylvania he loses election. It amazes me however how close McCain is in the polls, I guess americans are just that dumb or racist.
And this is news, how? The news would be Suskind's proven book and allegations, Bugliosi's proven allegations, and the reasons the House will not move faster to get the criminals behind bars. THAT would be news, and would require some real reporting,CNN. Not more speculation on VP choices.
Oh my...neither Obama or McCain had better be caught visiting Disney World or a whole cast of prominent characters will be parading front and center as VP candidates. Let's face it, both parties have a seemingly endless supply of VP possibilities. Wait for the announcements from both camps and don't be surprised if a pair of seldom discussed individuals end up as being the picks. One thing seems to be shaping up as certain...someone could make a big mistake in all of this.
